Linda Koontz Stephenson

Linda Koontz Stephenson passed away Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Loma Linda University Medical Center in California where she was also employed. Linda was born and raised in Fayetteville

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oasis Christian Fellowship, 304 N. Seventh St., Redlands, Calif. 92374.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel, 703 Brookside Ave., Redlands. Viewing will be 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at the church.

Burial will follow in Fayetteville.

Ingeborg Bressler

Ingeborg Weinacht Bressler, of Dalton Street, Beckley, died in a Charleston area hospital on Saturday, April 28, 2007, of injuries received in an automobile accident. She was 76 years of age.

Ingeborg was born May 21, 1930, in Ludwigshafen, Germany, the daughter of the late Paul and Erna Kempf Weinacht.

Ingeborg met her late husband, William Paul Bressler, a Beckley native, when he was stationed in Germany. A career serviceman, he and Ingeborg traveled extensively throughout the world and United States during his years in the military. They retired to the Beckley area several years ago. Ingeborg enjoyed life immensely; she enjoyed traveling, loved to bowl, was a member of the Beckley-Raleigh County YMCA and Senior Friends. She was of the Christian faith.

Her beloved William died on Dec. 14, 2004.

Survivors include a sister, Madaglena Leuthner and her husband, Richard, and their son, Walter, all of Ludwigshafen; her husband’s family, the Bresslers, Mildred Elam and William, Willis and Robert Bressler, all of Kentucky; and cousins, Gene and Gloria Starcher of Beckley.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor David Burkett officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service Monday.

Ritchie Carper

Ritchie Van Carper, 79, of Grandview Road, Beaver, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, in the VA Medical Center, Salem, Va., following a short illness.

Gladys Groves Chapman

CANVAS — Gladys Groves Chapman, 91, of Canvas, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 4, 2007.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Jordan Chapel United Methodist Church, Canvas. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Summersville.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gladys’ name to the G. Blaine Chapman Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Jordan Chapel United Methodist Church Men, P.O. Box 258, Canvas, WV 26662.

David Dawson

David Dawson, 66, of 150 Autumn Lane, Beckley, passed away at 8:31 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

He was born Oct. 17, 1940, to the late Robert “Bond” Dawson and Ruth Dawson.

David was a member of Welcome Baptist Church, Beckley.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Dawson Jr. and James Lewis Dawson.

Survivors include his brother, Vernon Lowe of Baton Rouge, La.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Service will be noon Tuesday at Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. David F. Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service at the funeral parlor.

Services entrusted to Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.

John Andrew Fisher

John Andrew Fisher, 84, of Raleigh, formerly of Pence Springs, died at 5:10 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2007, at home following a long illness.

Born May 15, 1922, in Summers County, he was the son of the late William and Mary June Stuphin Fisher.

John had lived most of his life at Pence Springs and had been a resident of Raleigh for the past eight years.

He was a member of Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church, a retired employee of CSX Corp. with 44 years of service and an avid gardener. He enjoyed his friends and neighbors throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Irene Cooper Fisher; two half brothers, Charles and John Fisher; and two stepgreat-grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Mary “Jenny” Hensley Elmore Fisher; two daughters, Barbara Alice Arnold and husband, Herman, of Pence Springs and Drema Gay Fisher of Pence Springs; a son, John Wayne Fisher of War Ridge; two stepdaughters, Belinda Faye Weeks of Ramseur, N.C., and Debbie Mae Cozart of Raleigh; three stepsons, Elmo Elmore of Lester, Robert Elmore of Raleigh and Billy Joe Elmore of Beckley; nine stepgrandchildrenl and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Pence Springs Community Church with Pastors Roger Persinger and Grayson Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest cemetery.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, and one hour before service at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Special thanks to the Hospice of Southern West Virginia, Gentina Home Health Care and caregivers Robert Elmore and Debbie Cozart.

Delmer Lee Goins

Delmer Lee Goins, 67, of Beckley, born Nov. 5, 1939, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Charleston Area Medical Center from a long illness.

Delmer was preceded in death by his father, Delmer Goins, in 1982.

Delmer was a flea market nut.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Thelma Surbaugh; his beloved wife of 47 years, Christine Plumley Goins; his beloved foster daughter, Carmilla Pugh; brothers, Elmer Ray Goins of Pemberton, Daniel Goins and wife, Shirley, of Backus Mountain and Roger Dale Goins of Chicago, Ill.; sisters, Gladys Hume and companion, Charles Cales, of Meadow Creek, Lena Plumley and husband, William, of Prince, Juanita Ward and husband, Bobby, of Landisburg, Lorena Bennett and husband, Nelson, of Round Lake, Ill., Pearl Harrah and husband, Alfred, of Backus Mountain and Wanda Clarkson and husband, Brett, of North Carolina; care giver, Priscilla Miller; and 34 nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with the Rev. Gene Hall officiating. Delmer will be laid to rest on Backus Mountain at Harrah cemetery.

Sammy Duncan Sr., Sammy Duncan Jr., Joseph Wall, Benny Plumley, Russell Jordan and Arnold Linkous will be serving as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Katie M. Kidd Grounds

AIKEN, S.C. — Katie M. Kidd Grounds, 95, of Aiken, formerly of Kincaid and Scott Depot, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Aiken Regional Medical Center.

Born April 23, 1912, at Vanetta, she was the daughter of the late Ira Kidd and Ollie Snodgrass Kidd Wade.

She was a retired school teacher of Collins High School, Oak Hill.

Mrs. Grounds was a member of the Church of God, Scott Depot. She graduated with honors from Morris Harvey College in Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Carmon Grounds Sr.; a son, Ronnie C. Grounds; and 12 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Alfred C. Grounds Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Magnolia Springs, Ala., and Kenneth Grounds and wife, Elaine, of Robertsdale, Ala.; three daughters, Patricia L. Franklin and husband, Benjamin, of Aiken, Janet Reed and husband, Jack, of Aiken and Marilyn R. Brooks and husband, Kenneth, of Ogden, Utah; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Rev. Roy Hamilton officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Christ Central Mission of Aiken, 3605 Richland Ave., W., Aiken, SC 29801.

Helen Harmon

Helen Harmon, 88, of Beckley, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2007.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, is in charge of arrangements.

William Edgar ‘Billy’ Kincaid

PRINCE — William Edgar “Billy” Kincaid, 72, of Prince, passed away Friday, May 4, 2007, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill.

Born Sept. 12, 1934, he was the son of the late Howard William and Lora Vandall Kincaid.

He loved hunting and was a retired coal miner. He was of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Taylor Kincaid, and a brother, Robert Kincaid.

Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Patricia Kincaid Coffman and her husband, Darrell, of Prince; two grandchildren, Darrell William Coffman of Tennessee and Laura Marie Coffman of Beckley; three great-grandchildren, Chances E. Coffman of Tennessee and Eula Mae Coffman and John H. Coffman, both of Beckley; two brothers, Jimmy Kincaid of Oak Hill and Dean Nelson of Palmer Springs, Va.; and two sisters, Betty Jane Williams and Deloris Ann Kennison, both of Charlottesville, Va.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, at Stanaford cemetery with the Rev. Darrell McNeely officiating.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 8 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.

Arlene Lilly

Arlene Lilly, 86, of Crab Orchard, passed away Friday, May 4, 2007.

Born July 17, 1920, she was the daughter of Reed and Clara Adams.

Arlene loved to cook for family and friends and read her Bible. She was of Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, Arlene was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Lee Lilly: a son, Ocal Reed Lilly; and several brothers.

Those left to cherish her memory include daughter, Barbara Lee Saalfeld and husband, Rod, of Kent, Wash.; sons, Harold Eugene Lilly and wife, Mary, of Bremerton, Wash., and James Jereld Lilly of Crab Orchard; sister, Mildred Lewis of Crab Orchard; brother, Eugene “Boo” Adams and wife, Velma, of Alsip, Ill.; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor James Leach officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
