Annie Mae Clancy

ALLEN JUNCTION — Annie Mae Clancy, 91, of Allen Junction, passed away on Dec. 15, 2006.

She was a resident of Allen Junction for around 60 years.

Born in Martinville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Pearl Scott and George Hairston.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Blake; and a sister, Beulah McClure.

She graduated from Conley High School in Mullens, and was a longtime employee at G.C. Murphy in Mullens. She was a member of the Mt. Grove Baptist Church where she loved singing in the choir and the Winding Gulf Singing Convention, and was very active at the Wyoming Council on Aging and loved to travel.

Survivors include a son, Michael Clancy of Raleigh, NC; a grandson, Michael Norman of Wyco; a sister, Maisie Thomas of Racine, Wis.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Durgan Funeral Chapel, 1501 S. Kanawha St., Beckley, with the Rev. Jewell Ross and Rev. Donald Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to services.

Arrangements entrusted to Durgan Funeral Services.

Mildred Ione Corron

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Mildred Ione Corron, 82, of White Sulphur Springs, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006.

Graveside services will be conducted today at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest cemetery in White Sulphur Springs. There will be no visitation.

Shanklin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HERNDON HEIGHTS — Tony Dominick, Jr., 72, of Herndon Heights, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at his residence, following a long illness.

PETERSTOWN — Mary B. Hoops, 80, of Peterstown, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Glenna Faye Legg

FAYETTEVILLE — Glenna Faye Legg, 89, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, in the Hilltop Center in Oak Hill.

Born on Aug. 30, 1917, at Hump Mountain in Summers County, she was a daughter of the late Kenna and Alice Coffman Bowles.

Mrs. Legg was a homemaker, enjoyed playing guitar, bowling, and loved to fish and hunt.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Roberts, and by her second husband, James H. Legg, in 1982; seven brothers, Harold, Henry, Virgil, Harry, Kenny, JR., Gilbert, and Randall; three sisters, Viola, Mary Ann, and Jeanetta; one stepson, Harry Roberts; and one stepdaughter, Pauline.

Left to cherish her memories include one sister, Corina Grimmett of Oak Hill; three brothers, Raymond Eugene Bowles of Manistee, MI, Kenneth Richard Bowles of Scarbro, and Earnest Edward Bowles of Backus Mountain; three stepdaughters, Ruth Riser of Oak Hill, Mae Cody of Aster, FL, and Betty Verity of Elyria, OH; and by several nieces and nephews. Also a special thank you to the staff at Hilltop Center at Hilltop.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Bush officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens at Oak Hill.

The family will receive friends today, Dec. 18, 2006, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bill Lester

WELLFORD, SC — Bill Vernon Lester, 76, of 238 Timberland Circle, widower of Velma Cline Scott Lester, died Dec. 15, 2006, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

A native of Roderfield, West Virginia, son of the late Jesse and Dora Stanley Lester, he was a retired teamster truck driver for McLean Trucking and a member of Wellford Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Randy Zimmerman of Spartanburg; two sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Keylah Lester and Randy Lester all of Wellford; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Elaine Lester of Richmond, Virginia; four grandchildren, Carly Lineberry and her husband, Benji, Scott Lester, Casey Lester, and Jordan Lester; and one great-grandchild, Ben Lineberry.

Mr. Lester was predeceased by one brother, Virgil Lester, and a sister, Hazel Price.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. today at Wellford Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Bobby Morrow. Burial will follow in Good Shepherd Memorial Park, Boiling Springs.

Visitation will be held 1 until 2 p.m. today at Wellford Baptist Church.

The family is at the home.

Memorials may be made to Wellford Baptist Church Audio Visual Department, 235 Syphrit Road, Wellford, S.C. 29385.

Jack W. Morgan

FLORENCE, SC — Jack W. Morgan, 77, passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, in the McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC.

Born Nov. 7, 1929, in Clifton Forge, Va., he was the son of the late Hubert W. and Edna Viola Loudermilk Morgan.

Mr. Morgan served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years, retiring as Master Sergeant in 1969; following his military career, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1992 as Postmaster in Johnsonville. He was a member of the VFW Post 3181 and the Swamp Fox Old Car Club, served as a volunteer fireman for 35 years, and as Treasurer for the West Florence Volunteer Fire Department.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Ray, Betty Zane Morgan, and Ida Sue Morgan.

Survivors include his wife, Drusilla Erskine Morgan of Florence, SC; two brothers, Harry W. (Norma) Morgan of The Villages, Fla., and Ted L. Morgan of London, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Longanacre Funeral Home Chapel, Fairlea, with his sister-in-law, Joanne Erskine, officiating. Burial to follow in the Morgan cemetery, Ronceverte, with full military honors.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial to D.A.V., P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.

Drewey E. ‘Sonny’ Mullens

Drewey E. “Sonny” Mullens, 71, of 111 Fulton Ave., Beckley, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at the Princeton Community Hospital, following a short illness.

Born at Maple Meadow on Feb. 11, 1935, he was the son of the late Ora Richardson Mullens and Rev. Ezra Mullens.

Drewey was a graduate of Trap Hill High School, and spent 10 years in the air force. After discharge from service he began working at Lockheed Martin as an aircraft mechanic. He spent the last four years of employment with Lockheed working in Saudi Arabia. After retirement from Lockheed, he began working at the Raleigh County Memorial Airport in 1978 until 1997 as a flight line supervisor.

Survivors include a son, James K. Mullens of Bolt; a daughter, Nancy Wallace of Morrow, Ga.; a brother, Kermit Mullens of Maple Meadow; and three sisters, Imogene Kerschner and husband Gary of Beckley, Marsha Morgan and husband Onnie of Charleston, and Betty Grubb and husband Bill of Tennessee.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with Pastor Don Pflegar officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to services.

Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Dessie Mae McMillion Pritt

DROOP — Dessie Mae McMillion Pritt, 76, of Droop, died Dec. 16, 2006.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at Vanreenen Funeral Home, Marlinton, at 2 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 6 until 9 p.m.

Kathleen McVey Rankin

ANSTED — Kathleen McVey Rankin, 89, of Ansted, passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, following a long illness.

She was born June 17, 1917, and was a daughter of the late George McVey and Florence Hendricks McVey.

Other than her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, James (Pohl) Sutton; sisters, Margaret McVey Hall and Mildred McVey Pike; a brother, Richard (Pete) McVey; and a grandson, Kent Sutton.

Kathleen was a retired beautician and attended Ansted Baptist Church. Prior to her being a resident at Ansted Center, she made her home with a niece, Tina Hernandez and her husband Michael, and their children, Aaron Carte, Tasha Carte, Michaelangelo, and Hunter Hernandez.

She is survived by a sister, Emogene McVey Smith of Parkersburg; four grandchildren, Craig Sutton, Mark Sutton, Kevin Sutton, and Matthew Sutton; other nieces and nephews, Mickey Treadway and husband Ronnie, Larry Hall, Joe Smith, Gale Smith, Jr., Jenny Fannin, Patty Cole, Hedy Chapman, Martha Burkhart, Bucky Pike, Dinky Willis, and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted, with Pastor Doug Eades officiating. Burial will follow Wednesday at Skaggs-McVey cemetery at Victor.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Wallace and Wallace of Ansted is in charge of the arrangements.

Ray Malcolm Richmond

REEDSPORT, Ore. — Ray Malcolm Richmond, 52, of 280 N. 10th St., Reedsport, Ore., formerly of Summers County, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, in Reedsport.

Bette Jean Schroder

Bette Jean Schroder, 87, of Beckley, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at Greystone Inn Courtyard.

She was born Dec. 30, 1918, in Uniontown, Pa., daughter of the late Alexander and Pearl Sneddon.

She graduated from WVU with a B.S. degree in Business and was a member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, Bette was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Schroder, and her older brother, Bob Sneddon.

She is survived by her son and wife, John L. III and Sandra D. Schroder of Beckley; daughter and her husband, Bobbe E. McClure and Tim Head of Van Horn, TX; brother and his wife, Don and Lilli Sneddon of Hilton Head, SC. Bette is also survived by her grandson and wife, John L. IV and Kelli Schroder of Elkins, WV; granddaughter and her husband, Lea Alexandra and Brian Jenkins of Richmond, VA.

Friends and family will be received at the Beckley Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006. A memorial service will be held at 12 o’clock noon at the church with Rev. Adrian Pratt officiating.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to: The Beckley Presbyterian Church, 203 S. Kanawha St., Beckley, WV 25801, or Hospice of Southern West Virginia, Inc., P.O. Box 1472, Beckley WV 25802.
