Albert Joseph Fodor

ANNVILLE, Pa. — Albert Joseph Fodor, 97, passed away Dec. 24, 2005, in Annville.

Born Aug. 24, 1908, in Whitsett, Va., he was the son of the late Joseph Fodor and Elizabeth Molnar Fodor.

Mr. Fodor was a member of Fayetteville Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge in Indianapolis, Ind. He graduated from West Virginia University, was a World War II Navy veteran and a retired electrician with Chrysler Corp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Fodor; three sisters, Elizabeth Fodor Rinehart, Julia Fodor Gingrich and Mary Fodor Propps; and a nephew, Jennings Propps.

Survivors include his sister, Madonna Sarah Meech of Annville; three nieces, Julia Propps Ammar and Sylvia Propps, both of Montgomery, and Marilyn Meech Beaubien of Annville; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Military rites will be conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post No. 3110, and the Masonic Lodge will conduct rites at the graveside.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of arrangements.

Grady Delano Gills Sr.

WALNUT COVE, N.C. — Grady Delano Gills Sr., 67, of Walnut Cove, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2006.

Born April 10, 1938, at Besoco, he was the son of the late John Thomas Gills and the late Chloe Pearl Cole Gills.

Grady loved hunting and fishing and was of the Christian faith. He served his country in the United States Navy as a fireman.

In addition to his parents, Grady was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Gills; and a sister, Eva Cummings.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ellen Irene Perry Gills; two daughters, Tammy Burleson of Wilmington, N.C., and Edna Vance of Mabscott; four sons, Grady Gills Jr. of Gates, N.C., Mathew Gills of Walnut Cove, David Gills of Holly Pond, Ala., and Glenn Gills of West Columbia, S.C.; eight grandchildren; a brother, Frazier Gills; and a sister, Bonnie Cole.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with burial to follow.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Ray Hamilton

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. — Thomas Ray Hamilton, 51, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2006.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church, Oak Hill. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill.

Jimmy Edward Humphrey

OAK HILL — Jimmy Edward Humphrey, 59, of Oak Hill, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.

Born April 26, 1946, at Minden, he was the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Allie Virginia Smith Humphrey.

He was a disabled coal miner.

Jimmy was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene Humphrey; a brother, Bob Humphrey; and a nephew, Buzzy Pugh.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy Edward Humphrey and wife, Vicky, of Oak Hill; a daughter, Regina Humphrey Bragg of Oak Hill; the mother of his children, Rebecca Olds of Oak Hill; two brothers, Roger Humphrey of Ohio and Ralph Humphrey of Oak Hill; a sister, Janette Pugh of Layland; his companion, Donna Johnson; and seven grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Larry Humphrey officiating. Burial will be at IOOF cemetery, Oak Hill.

Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

George Theodore Puckett

George Theodore Puckett, 93, a longtime resident of Skyline Drive, died Friday night, Feb. 10, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital after several weeks of declining health.

Mr. Puckett was born Nov. 17, 1912, in Halifax, Va., to George Thomas Puckett and Carrie Guthrie Puckett.

On Oct. 1, 1938, he married Dorothy Wohr Puckett of Lynchburg, Va., who survives him. They have two children, Shirley P. Kuhn of Washington, N.C., and George T. Puckett Jr. of Beckley; three grandsons, Jonathan Randall Kuhn of Washington, N.C., Jason Thomas Kuhn of Pinebluff, N.C., and Jeremy David Kuhn of Pinebluff; and a great-grandson, Jackson Bonner Kuhn of Pinebluff.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers, Carolyn Barksdale, Jack L. Puckett, Bessie Thompson, Fred M. Puckett, Aurelia Vasser, William T. Puckett and Harry R. Puckett.

Mr. Puckett came to Beckley in 1937 as manager of the plumbing and heating department at Raleigh Hardware Co., where he worked for 30 years. From 1967 to 1987, he worked as a manufacturer’s representative for the Williamson Co. in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Oneida Heater Co. in Oneida, N.Y., retiring at the age of 75. Throughout his life, he enjoyed quail hunting, golf and gardening, always sharing his roses and vegetables with friends and neighbors.

He was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, serving as chairman of the building committee for the educational building, and as a vestryman, junior warden and trustee for many years.

Memorial service of Holy Eucharist will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 200 Virginia St., Beckley, with the Rev. Eric Miller officiating.

The family will receive friends 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday in the library at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church.

Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, is in charge of arrangements.

Ramon N. Reed

Ramon N. Reed, 73, of Amigo, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, in a Reedsville, N.C., hospital.

Winona E. Thomas

MARLINTON — Winona E. Thomas, 82, of Marlinton, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mountain View cemetery, Marlinton. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at VanReenen Funeral Home, Marlinton.

Eric L. Tyree

OCEANA — Eric L. Tyree, 71, of Oceana, died at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at the Ohio State University Hospital following a long illness. At his bedside were his wife, Joy (Bailey) Tyree, his sister-in-law, Barbara (Bailey) Wallace, and his sister, Janet May.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.V. and Amanda “Dot” Tyree; and sisters, Edra Pankiewicz and Eulanna Lakotos.

Mr. Tyree leaves behind many loving relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife, Joy; sons, Dr. Thomas L. Tyree and his wife, Cheryl, of Kenova and Terry Tyree and his wife, Penny, of Kopperston; a sister, Janet May of Grove City, Ohio; granddaughters, Traci Agnew of Atlanta, Ga., Tanya Sargent of Louisville, Ky., and Jessica and Lindsey Tyree of Kopperston; great-grandchildren, Donivan Agnew and Kyleigh Sargent; nieces, Sabrina Ackerman, Lisa Jago and Tamara Conley; and nephews, Craig Pankiewicz, Jerry D. May Jr., and Derek and Eric Conley.

On Jan. 11, 2006, Mr. Tyree was baptized by the Rev. James Moran, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Grove City, Ohio.

He retired from Peabody Coal Co. after many years of dedicated service as a supervisor.

Cremation was requested by Eric, and a memorial service will be planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorial contributions be made to Kopperston Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 24, Kopperston, WV 24854.

Evan Cole Cooper

DENVER, N.C. — Evan Cole Cooper, infant son of Derrick and Melody Paugh Cooper Jr., went to be with the Lord on Oct. 22, 2005.

Evan was born Sept. 12, 2005.

A private funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Stafford Family Funeral Home Chapel, Lynco. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, Pecks Mill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton, N.C.

The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco and the Warlick Funeral Home, Lincolnton, N.C.

MT. NEBO — Irene Corbett, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Sugar Grove Methodist Church, Runa. Friends may call two hours prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

CLIFTON FORGE, Va. —Charles William Dolan, 73, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005.

Benjamin Franklin Drennen

SUTTON — Benjamin Franklin Drennen, 75, formerly of Richwood, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Union cemetery, Webster Spriongs.

Verna Delphia Coleman Evans

SCARBRO — Verna Delphia Coleman Evans, 93, of Rt. 1, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Heartland of Charleston.

Born Sept. 15, 1912, at Dothan, she was the daughter of the late Everette S. Coleman and Naomi S. Payne Coleman.

Mrs. Evans was a homemaker, and a member of the Fairview Methodist Church at East Kingston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Desota Evans; two daughters, Ann Dembereckyi and Jewel Faye Jarvis; and three stepchildren, Gloria Parker, Margaret Newbanks and Gary Evans.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary Lee Blake of Springfield, Mo., Shirley G. Gamble of Ridgedale, Mo., Verna Noel Clark of Ridgedale, Mo., and Brenda Joyce Mrozek of Braselton, Ga.; three sisters, Bonnie Davis of Dothan, Lessie Wriston of Fayetteville, and Dana Wriston of Fayetteville; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Arolette Stover officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel.

RAVENCLIFF — Jimmy Dale Graham, 49, departed this life Monday, Oct. 24, 2005.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.
