Mary Virginia Comer Keel

OAK HILL — Mary Virginia Comer Keel, 82, of Oak Hill, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

She was born March 2, 1923, at Lansing, the only daughter of the late Charles Morgan Comer and Virgie Inez Coleman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Keel; and a brother, Charles Harrison Comer of Portland, Ore.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John and Orpha Keel of Gresham, Ore.; a daughter, Gretchen Keel of Oak Hill; grandson, Jay Keel of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; brother, George Comer of Grandin, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Janice Comer of Fayetteville; sister-in-law, Marcella Comer of Portland, Ore.; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kate and Carl Patrick of Kanawha City. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and devoted friends.

Mrs. Keel was an elementary school teacher in Fayette County for many years, where she made a profound impact on many of her students. She did private tutoring for both children and adults, and was a literacy volunteer. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women, the American Association of University Women and the Genealogical Society of Fayette and Raleigh Counties. The Business and Professional Women named her as Woman of the Year for her work on their scholarship program.

She loved reading and books, and enjoyed nothing more than visiting used book stores. Mrs. Keel was the author of three books, including The Natural Way to Read. Her other hobbies included walking in the woods, gardening, carpentry and genealogical research.

She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, teacher and friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Dr. John Sauvage officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Arrangements by High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main St., Oak Hill.

Tom Lambert

FANROCK — Tom Lambert, 92, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, in Bluefield Regional Medical Center following a long illness.

Born May 2, 1913, at Asco, he was the son of the late John Robert and Alice Kirby Lambert. He was the last survivor of his immediate family.

Mr. Lambert was a retired coal miner, having worked 47 years in the mines. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Lambert loved going to church and gardening, especially flowers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Ollie Mae Green, Gertrude Morgan, Carrie Morgan and Connie Collins; and six brothers, Charlie, Robert, William, Frank, Roy and Weaver Lambert.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Hazel Marie Rose Lambert; four daughters, Phyllis Lambert at home, Shirley Belcher and her husband, Roger, of Fanrock, Diana Young and her husband, Jerry, of Pineville and Reba Morgan and her husband, Mark, of Fanrock; five grandchildren, Tommy Belcher and his wife, Joyce, of Fanrock, Gary Young and his wife, Kelly, of Pineville, Teresa Taylor and her husband, Eddie, of Fanrock, Jeff Young and his wife, Christy, and Misty Morgan of Fanrock; six great-grandchildren, Zachary and Chase Taylor, and Michael, Clay, Morgan and Emma Young; two step great-grandchildren, John and David Cook; three step great-great-grandchildren, Brooke, Nathan and Katie Cook; a special longtime friend, Sam Vance of Fanrock; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who loved him dearly.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with Brother Gary Walker and Brother Teddy Vance officiating. Burial will follow in Short cemetery, Brier Creek.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be friends and family.

Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Riffe and Shawn Neace.

Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville, is serving the Lambert family.

Wilbur Ray McKinney

Wilbur Ray McKinney was born June 24, 1934, and at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, the Lord said to Wilbur, “Welcome home, my good and faithful servant.”

Wilbur dedicated 41 years of his life to serving the Lord and spreading his word. He fought a good fight and now is enjoying his rewards. He was an avid bowler and loved riding his 4-wheeler. He was a self-employed contractor and former owner of Valley Drive Exxon. Wilbur was a member of Amigo Missionary Baptist Church and former minister with Regular Baptist Church for 41 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kelly and Virgie McKinney; brothers, Giles and Elmet McKinney; and sisters, Garnet Mills and Doris Shrewsbury.

Those left to cherish his loving memory include his wife of 51 years, Janet Shrewsbury McKinney; his sons, Clifford McKinney and his wife, Tammy, of Beckley, Perry McKinney and his wife, Sheila, of Beaver, Gary McKinney and his wife, Shiela, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Tony McKinney and his wife, Janet, of Barkers Ridg; grandchildren, Candace Henderson and husband, Billm of Martinsburg, Amber McKinney of Arlington, Va., Jason McKinney of Barkers Ridge, Kelli Myers and husband, Patrickm of Morgantown, Tabitha Lusk and husband, Jerrym of Barkers Ridge, Sarah McKinney of Virginia Beach, Va., Blaine McKinney of Beckley and Clint Houck and wife, Andream of Daniels; great-grandchildren, Sydney Lusk, Conner Lusk, Taylor McKinney, Ben Stafford, Sarah Houck and Emily Houck; a brother, Russell McKinney of Amigo; and three sisters, Joyce Lynch of Beckley, Haley Bond of Stotesbury and Hester Mills of Basin.

Wilbur was greatly loved and will be missed by many. We look forward to seeing him again in Heaven.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with Pastor Patrick Haynes and Pastor Curtis England officiating. Granddaughter Amber McKinney will be reading a special memorial to her grandfather. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be his four sons, Clifford, Perry, Gary and Tony McKinney.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jason McKinney, Jerry Lusk and Clint Houck.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, is serving the family.

Lennie Katherine Miller

FRANKFORD — Lennie Katherine Miller, 73, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dallas ‘Dal Bug’ Mills

BRENTON — Dallas “Dal Bug” Mills departed this life Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at the age of 60 years, six months and one day at his residence following a long illness.

Born July 8, 1945, at Welch, he was the son of the late Shade and Mable Rose Mills.

Dal Bug was a retired coal miner, having lived in Wyoming County for 30 years. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a twin sister, Alice Mills.

Those left to cherish his memory are his three sons, James Mills and his wife, Vicki, of Brenton, Dallas Mills and his wife, Barbara, of Glade Springs, Va., and Frankie Brown of Pineville; a daughter, Myra Griffith and her husband, Steve, of Brenton; his former wife, Mary Lou Elswick of Brenton; two sisters, Madline Mills and Vanny Mitchem, both of Davy; two brothers, Dillard Ray Mills of Keystone and Tex Mills of Virginia; 10 grandchildren, Bobby Joe Cline and his companion, Izzy, of Brenton, James Cline and his wife, J.J., of Delbarton, Jimmy Cline and his companion, Sarah, of Brenton, Lynda “Babyduck” Cline and her companion, Mikey, of Brenton, Amanda and Ariel Mills of Glade Springs, Va., Arleda Trent and her husband, Timmy Dale, of Ohio, Jason Steele and his companion, Lacy, of Ohio, Larry Steele and his companion, Holly, of Brenton, Travis Miller, Heather Steele, Amanda Stacey, Steven and John Griffith, all of Brenton; five great-grandchildren, D.J. “Fatboy” Trent, Zach Trent, Dakota Adkins, Mikey and Zoey Cline; four half brothers; three half sisters; two very special friends, Mary Toler and Ronnie Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of friends.

A celebration of Dal Bug’s life will be 1 p.m. Friday at Brenton Church of God with the Rev. Lee Fischer officiating. Burial will follow in Trent cemetery, Mill Creek.

Casketbearers will be family and friends.

Family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Ann Little Mullens

ALLEN JUNCTION — Ann Little Mullens, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, following an extended illness.

Nitocris Kate Poindexter

CLEVELAND — Nitocris Kate Poindexter, 90, passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at the home of her daughters in Cleveland, Ohio.

The gracious Lady who became our Mother was born on March 25, 1915, in Charleston to the late Daniel E.V. and Lillian Shelton Jordan.

Mrs. Poindexter grew up in Rand and was a graduate of Garnet High School in Charleston. She dedicated her life to Jehovah God and was baptized as a witness of Jehovah in 1947. She continued throughout her life sharing her Bible-based hope with her neighbors in the small town of Prince and her neighborhood in Beckley where she lived until moving to Lewisburg in the early 1990s and then moved to Cleveland to live with her daughters until her death. She looked forward to and shared her faith and hope of God’s Kingdom Government with Jesus Christ as King bringing permanent peace and security to the whole earth and restoring the earth to the paradise that was lost. Mrs. Poindexter also taught dilligently the standards of God’s word the Bible to her children.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Fred W. Pondexter Sr., who passed away December 1967, and she married him in 1939; four sons, Fred Jr. in 1973, Linville and Keith, both in 1974, and Joel L. in 1986; two brothers, Lambert Jordan and Cameron Jordan; and a grandson, Fred III.

Survivors include four daughters, Judith Poindexter, Patricia Poindexter and Susan Wilson, all of Cleveland, and Lillian E. Poindexter of Lewisburg; two sons, John Poindexter and Douglas Poindexter, both of Charleston; two brothers, Dubois Jordan and McKenna Jordan, both of Rand; three grandchildren, Robert and Robin Wilson, Shaphan Poindexter and Daryl Venson; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and Christian brothers and sisters.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Greenbrier Memorial Garden cemetery, Lewisburg, with Dennis Worlledge officiating.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 65 Ole Main Plaza, St. Albans, with Thomas Toliver officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Greenbrier Valley Hospice Inc., 540 N. Jefferson St., Lewisburg, WV 24901 or to the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Route 60, W., Lewisburg, WV 24901.

Edwin Keith Smith

CLINTONVILLE — Edwin Keith Smith, 36, of Shoestring Trail, died suddenly on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at his home.

Born April 16, 1969, in Franklin, Va., he was a son of Amanda Sue Bradshaw Ward of Waverly, Va., and Edwin B. Smith of Rainelle.

Keith was a member of Burton’s Grove Christian Church of Wakefield, Va., and an Eagle Scout. He was a contractor in home construction and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his mother, Amanda Sue Bradshaw Ward of Waverly, Va.; father, Edwin B. Smith of Rainelle; stepmother, Susan Smith of Prince George, Va.; a sister, Crystal Renee Smith of Prince George; maternal grandmother, Gertrude Miller Bradshaw of Waverly; and several aunts and uncles.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.

Friends may visit with the family 6 to 9 p.m. today at the home of his father, Edwin B. Smith, on Fleshman Hollow Road near Rainelle.

Harry J. Smith

OAK HILL — Harry J. Smith, 86, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at Hilltop Healthcare Center following a short illness.

Born June 10, 1919, at Grantsville, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Georgia Deems Smith.

Mr. Smith was retired from Cabot Oil and Gas in Pineville with 35 years of service.

Harry was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Pineville and the Knights of Pythias Lodge No. 17, Oak Hill. He was a 50-year Mason and past master of Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 AF and AM and Pineville Lodge No. 138 AF and AM. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, John, James, Godfrey and Joe Smith; and three sisters, Geneve Perrine, Grace Kyer and Virginia Sawyer.

Survivors include his wife, Madeline Betts Smith; a sister-in-law, Doris Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Robert Barley officiating. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill, with military graveside rites being conducted by VFW Post No. 3110 of Oak Hill and Masonic graveside rites conducted by Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 AF and AM.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Oak Hill Lodge Building Fund, P.O. Box 145, Oak Hill, WV 25901.

Kenneth E. Testerson

Kenneth E. Testerson, 70, of Richwood and Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Richwood cemetery.
