Margaret Frances Gillespie, 87, of Cohen St., Beckley, died Monday, April 3, 2006, following an extended illness.

Anita Darlene Cooper Hammaker

CRAIGSVILLE — Anita Darlene Cooper Hammaker, 41, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at home in Craigsville.

Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, and also on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Oak Hill.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene.

Committal service will be 2 p.m. at West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene, P.O. Box 22, Oak Hill, WV 25901.

Dorothy Nell Phillips

Dorothy Nell Phillips, 83, passed away April 3, 2006.

Joetta K. ‘Pete’ Richmond

FAYETTEVILLE — Joetta K. “Pete” Richmond, 60, of Fayetteville, has gone home to be with Daddy on Monday, April 3, 2006, following a short illness.

She was born on May 16, 1945, at Elverton, she was the daughter of the late Alva Richmond and Ida Belle Pyatt Richmond.

Pete will be missed by her loving and devoted family and friends. She had a heart of giving and she will be remembered for her unconditional love.

Preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Ida Belle Richmond; a brother, Sonny Boy Richmond; and a sister, Mable Gilson.

Survivors include her son, Keith Allen Taylor and wife, Jennifer of Holland, Mich.; two brothers, Robert Richmond and wife, Edith of Fayetteville, and Leonard Richmond and wife, Deanna of Fayetteville; three sisters, Masel Bays and husband, Carl of Fayetteville, Daisy Bryant of Scarbro, and Dreama Jones and husband, Ray of Fayetteville; and three beautiful granddaughters, Amber Taylor, Sarah Taylor and Hannah Taylor, all of Holland, Mich.

Services will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Pastor Joe Hoggard officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations to be made in Pete’s memory to the Fayetteville Untied Methodist Church Food Pantry, 120 High St., Fayetteville, WV 25840.

Lula Jane Rutledge

Lula Jane Rutledge, 100, of Beaver, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006.

Born July 29, 1905, at Basin, she was the daughter of the late William Riley Graham and Mary Margaret Roach Graham.

Lula was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Rutledge; five children; and nine brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Bobby Rutledge of Beaver; two daughters, Betty Thompson and husband, Nick of Beckley and Joann Pruett and husband, Don of Princewick; 21 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, 147 Virginia St., Sophia, with Pastor Damon Snuffer officiating. Burial will follow in Ben Meadows cemetery, Pixley Rd., Mitchells Ridge.

Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.

Friends may gather from 12 noon until time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 147 Virginia St., Sophia is in charge of the arrangements.

Johnny Allen ‘Smitty’ Smith

Johnny Allen “Smitty” Smith, 65, of Beckley, died at his home Sunday, April 2, 2006, with his loving family around him.

Born Sept. 26, 1940, at Eccles, he was the son of the late Clarence L. Smith and Lena Marcum Smith of Beckley.

Mr. Smith was a retired heavy equipment operator for Consol and last worked as a ranger at Briar Patch Golf Course. He was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church, Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95 AF and AM and Briar Patch Golf Course.

Smitty was an avid fan of West Virginia University, Woodrow Wilson High School and Marshall University.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Moxley Smith; daughters, Nancy Chambers and her husband, Jim, of Beckley, Vicki Patton and companion, David Rateau, of Lousiville, Ky., and Kim Cernuto and her husband, David, of Beckley; grandchildren, Tara Patton of Louisville, Ky., Carley Gray and her husband, Jason of Beckley, Rachelle Cernuto of Huntington, Brittany and Emily Cernuto, both of Beckley; sisters, Margie Painter and her husband, Clarence of Cross Lanes, Imojean Jones and her husband, Charlie of Beckley, and Brenda Schaphoff and her husband, Wolfgang of Beckley.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Oak Grove Christian Church with Mr. Kenneth Overdorf and the Rev. John Pack officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95 AF and AM will serve as pallbearers and conduct graveside rites.

Johnny’s family would like to thank Dr. Lostetter and Staff, ARH Home Health, Rick Cornett and Jan Care Ambulance, Kathy at Apria Home Health, all the nurses at Raleigh General Hospital for all their loving care, the members of Oak Grove Christian Church for their prayers, cards and meals and a special thank you to the men of the church who sat with Johnny, special thanks to Brenda Schaphoff. For all her help in caring for Johnny and to his caregiver, Lois Hylton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations of sympathy be made to the American Cancer Society and sent to Smitty’s Angels, 1111 Dry Hill Rd., Beckley, WV 25801.

Patsy R. Stanley

OAK HILL — Patsy R. Stanley, 70, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, April 2, 2006, at her home.

Born Dec. 1, 1935, at Smithers, the daughter of the late Earl Bowen and Bertha Hannah Bowen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Bowen, Jerry Bowen, Jimmy Bowen, and Richard Bowen, and two sisters, Sue Hendricks, and Melba Bradley.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 50 years, Jim Stanley; her children, Janet Ellen Plumbley and husband, Ray, of Fayetteville, Scott Stanley and wife, Jessica, of Oak Hill, and John Stanley of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Jacob Stanley of Oak Hill, Patricia Kwitkin and husband, Bryan, of Summerville, S.C., and Ellen Plumbley of Oak Hill; great-grandchildren, Caleb Dixon of Oak Hill, and Abigail Jane Kwitkin of Summerville, S.C.; a brother, E.W. Bill Bowen and wife, Delores, of Montgomery; sisters, Helen Miller and husband, R.B., of Christian, and Shirley and Charles Herr of Sun City, Ariz.; three sisters-in-law, Iris Lee Bowen of Montgomery, Evagene Bowen of Hurricane, and De De Bowen of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with her nephew, the Rev. Tom Bowen officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, W.Va. 25802-1472.

Samuel William ‘Sam’ Titta

HINTON — Samuel William “Sam” Titta, 76, of Madam’s Creek, died Saturday, April 1, 2006, at the Raleigh General Hospital at Beckley, following a short illness.

Born July 4, 1929, in Wyoming County, he was the son of the late Constantino Salvatoria and Maria Aeillo Titta.

Sam had lived most of his life in Summers County, he was a retired machinist for the Norfolk and Southern Railroad with 49 years of service. He was a Baptist.

Preceded in death by a son, Steve Titta; a daughter, Pamela Titta; three brothers and six sisters.

Survived by his wife, Jean Titta at home; a daughter, Venesia Clinebell and husband, David of Jumping Branch; a sister, Josephine Anderson of Beckley; two step daughters, Gail Ronat and husband, Andy, of Ellison and Shelda Crook and husband, Jackie, of Jumping Branch; a grandson, Shawn Titta and wife, Tara, of Charlotte, N.C.; a granddaughter, Erica Reed and husband, John, of Jumping Branch; six step grandchildren, Bobby Ronat and wife, Sarah, Melinda Ronat, Jason Crook, Jackie Lee Crook and wife, Tina, Aaron Crook and Brian Crook; three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Donald L. Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews cemetery, Nimitz.

Friends may call from noon until time of the service today at the funeral parlors.

CHRISTIAN — Dennis Toler, 33, departed this life Saturday, April 1, 2006.

Jimmy Warrick

OAK HILL — Jimmy Warrick, 48, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Plateau Medical Center.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Arrangements by High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main St., Oak Hill.

Eric Orrin Wilson

Eric Orrin Wilson, age 52, of Daniels, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at the Wilson Medical Center in Wilson, N.C., following a sudden illness.

Born at Beckley on Sept. 23, 1953, he was the son of Mary Jo Graham Wilson of Seymour, Tenn., and the late Bruce Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was the former owner and operator of J.E.B. Quality Homes at Sophia, and was a graduate of Sophia High School.

Survivors include sons, Joe Wilson and wife, Stephanie, of Shady Spring, and Ben Wilson and wife, Jackie, of Daniels; a daughter, Erica Saldi and husband, John, of Wilson, N.C.; brothers, Matthew Wilson of Seymour, Tenn., and Mark Wilson of Fort Myers, Fla.; sisters, Mona Floyd of Beckley, and Cindy Riddle of Tampa, Fla.; paternal grandmother, Sarah Wilson of Narrows, Va.; and five grandchildren, Eric Thos Wilson, Alex Wilson, Amberli Wilson, Preslie Wilson, and Ysabella Saldi.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home at Shady Spring. There will be no funeral service.
