Emilie Lusk

DAVIN — Emilie Brown Lusk, 70, of Davin, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at her residence following a short illness.

Born Dec. 31, 1935, at Cyclone, she was the daughter of the late Dewey A. Brown and Ruby Harless Brown.

Mrs. Lusk was a member of Lacoma Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Brown; two sisters, Carrie and Dorothy Brown; and a grandson, Shawn Vance.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Billy Joe Lusk; three daughters, Patsy Tilley and her husband, Ted, Peggy Toler and her husband, Mark, and Pam Lusk, all of Davin; two grandchildren, Melissa Vance and Chad Lusk and his wife, Whitney, all of Davin; and a great-grandchild, Caleb Vance of Davin.

Service will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Emilie’s name to Dignity Hospice, P.O. Box 4304, Chapmanville, WV 25508 or the American Cancer Society, Suite 6, 301 RHL Blvd., Charleston, WV 25309.

Robert ‘Bobby’ Matthews Jr.

LASHMEET — Robert “Bobby” Matthews Jr., 66, of 571 Reese Harmon Ridge, Lashmeet, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born June 21, 1939, in Mead, he was the son of the late Robert L. Matthews and Sylvia Grose Matthews.

Mr. Matthews was a retired coal miner, last working at S&C Coal Co. at Itmann, and was a member of the UMWA. He was a member of Ridgeview Church of God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lee “Cornbread” Matthews; two infant children; an older brother, Everett “Jake” Matthews; and several nephews.

Survivors include his loving friend, companion and caregiver, Eddie “Sissy” Matthews of Lashmeet; two daughters, Rose Casey and her husband, Mark, of Spanishburg and Ruth Fortner and her friend, Anthony, of Bluewell; three sons, Richard Matthews and his wife, Sue, Ronald Matthews and his wife, Rebecca, and Randy Matthews and his wife, Sherry, all of Princeton; two brothers, Major Matthews and his wife Becky, of Princeton and Elgie Matthews and his wife, Marion, of Lashmeet; two sisters, Beulah Goode of Pineville and Macie Treadway and her husband, Thomas, of Ladson, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 8 p.m. today today at Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Revs. L.A. Farmer and David Barnette officiating. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hot Coal cemetery, Sophia. Friends and family attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call 6 p.m. until time of service today at the funeral home.

Richard Dane Milam Sr.

RAINELLE — Richard Dane Milam Sr., 56, of Rainelle, died suddenly Monday evening, Feb. 6, 2006, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea.

Born Dec. 17, 1949, at McRoss, he was the son of the late Wanda Fern Chapman Milam.

Mr. Milam was a retired meat cutter who had worked for Giant Foods of Fredricksburg, Va., and was a member of Sewell Valley Baptist Church of Rainelle.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth L. Hawkins Milam; two sons, Richard D. Milam Jr. of Fredricksburg, Va., and Anthony J. Milam of Fredricksburg; a brother, Danny D. Milam of Rainelle; and 13 grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Milton Ker officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.

Friends may 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Arrangements entrusted to Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle.

Clarence ‘Eugene’ Morgan

OCEANA — Clarence “Eugene” Morgan, 66, passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Heartland of Beckley following a short illness.

Born June 27, 1939, at Oceana, he was the son of the late Herbert Morgan and Rosie Trent Morgan.

Mr. Morgan was a member of Turkey Ridge Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, listening to the radio and visiting friends.

In addition to his parents, three brothers, Curtis, Lonnie and Azel Morgan, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his sister, Linnie Morgan Hall and her husband, Roy, of Oceana; several nieces, nephews and other family; and a host of friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Johnny Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Morgan Family cemetery, Long Branch.

Friends may call noon until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Evans Funeral Home, Oceana, is serving the Morgan family.

Lucille S. Neil

NETTIE — Lucille S. Neil, 84, of Nicholas County, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006.

Private graveside service will be held.

Arrangements by White Funeral Home, Summersville.

James Matthew ‘Jack’ Poindexter Sr.

James Matthew “Jack” Poindexter Sr., 77, of 408 Gregory St., Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital following an extended illness.

Born Dec. 17, 1928, at Cranberry, he was a son of the late Dana Poindexter and Mary Lou Poindexter.

Mr. Poindexter was a coal miner in Cranberry in the 1950s, and he worked for the Greyhound Bus Terminal for 42 years.

He was a deacon and member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he was co-director of the No. 2 Shape Note Choir, member of Sunday school and member of the New Era District Music Convention.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Ruth; two sons, James “Bug” Jr. and Caryl Dana (Danny Boy); a grandson, Marquise LaVelle Collins; two brothers, Edward and Frank Poindexter; and a sister, Eva Penn.

Survivors include his devoted wife Margie Miller Poindexter; two daughters, Sharon (the Rev. Charles H.) Collins of Bluefield and Sherry Beasley of Farnham, Va.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emma Bowles of Beckley and Betty Earl of Big Springs, Texas; a special niece, Rose (Patty) Morton of Beckley; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at New Hope Baptist Church, 304 Worley Road, Beckley, with the Revs. Charles H. Collins Sr., Nathaniel Carey, Philip Copney Sr. and Joseph Collins officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call one hour before service Friday at the church.

Betty Sizemore

Betty Sizemore, 71, of Beckley, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2006.

Born Jan. 8, 1935, at Stephenson, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo Meadows and the late Mabel Shrewsberry Meadows.

Betty was very family oriented and loved to be home caring for her family.

She was a postmaster at Trap Hill, Glen Rogers, and Eccles and retired with 26 years of service.

She previously attended Prosperity Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister; and sister, Laura Carolene Vance.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 51 years, James “Jim” Sizemore; a daughter, Kathy Sizemore of Beckley; two sons, James “Eric” Sizemore and wife, Beverly, of Beckley and Michael Sizemore of Charleston; two grandchildren, Brian and Cory Sizemore of Beckley; three brothers, Sherman Meadows and wife, Naomi, of Daniels, Bob Meadows and wife, Linda, of Prosperity and Burliss Meadows of Prosperity; four sisters, Imorene Barron and husband, Tom, of Hurricane, Dixie Harvey of Oak Hill, Sandy Trent and husband, Dwight, of Daniels and Donna Morris and husband, Larry, of Beckley.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with Pastor Bill Bobblett officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, is in charge of arrangements.

GILBERT — Arthur Smith, 89, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Clella Jean Snyder

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Clella Jean Snyder, 68, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, following an extended illness.

She is survived by a son, the Rev. Donald R. Snyder Jr., pastor of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Beckley, his wife, Nancy, and their five children, Donald III, Joshua, Melissa, Abigail and Michal; a daughter, Linda Snyder and friend, Tom George; a daughter, Debbie Pringle and her four children, Jennifer, Julia, T.J. and Chelsea; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 24, in Ambridge, Pa.

James Freddie Stanley

James Freddie Stanley, 75, of Mount View, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Summers County ARH following a long illness.

Born June 30, 1930, he was the son of the late Roy and Willie Basham Stanley.

Mr. Stanley was a retired farmer and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.

Survivors include a sister, Rose Stanley Conner of Jumping Branch; a brother, Roy Stanley and wife, Donna, of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with the Rev. Elmo Alderman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount View cemetery.

Friends may call one hour before service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Deborah S. Walker

FAYETTEVILLE — Deborah S. Walker, 46, of Route 1, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at her home.

Born April 18, 1959, at Dunbar, she was the daughter of Tom G. and Carolyn Sue Painter Casto of Albertville, Ala.

Mrs. Walker was a teacher’s aide for Mount Hope Elementary School.

She was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.

Deborah was an active member of Jazzercise of Oak Hill. She was artistically creative and loved interior designing.

Other survivors besides her parents include her husband of 27 years, Kenny Walker; two sons, Justin B. Walker and Jeremy R. Walker, both of Oak Hill; a brother-in-law, Charles D. Walker, and two nephews, Cody and Eric Walker, all of Charleston.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. David White officiating. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Floral Hills Gardens of Memories, 6839 Sissonville Drive, Sissonville.

Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
