Shelby Jean Wooten, 63, of Crab Orchard, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

Arminta Louise Elmore

SCOTTSMOOR, Fla. — Arminta Louise Elmore, 81, of 6065 Magnolia St., formerly of Bland, Va., died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Fla.

Born Jan. 23, 1924, in Princeton, she was the daughter of the late Otis Jesse and Beulah Mae Winfrey Belcher.

Mrs. Elmore was a retired caregiver and last attended Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Princeton. She had been a resident of Scottsmoor for two years, moving there from Bland, Va.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Robert J. Elmore; and one grandson, David Norton Lewis, Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Sue Lewis and husband, David, of Beckley and Barbara Gail Bird and husband, Lee, of Scottsmoor, Fla.; two sons, Donald Lee Elmore and wife, Brenda, of Princeton, and Sam Robert Elmore and companion, Deborah Haynes, and her children, Allison and Lauren and grandson Ryan, of Centreville, Va.; four grandchildren, Jeri Lynn Mullins and husband, Michael, Sarah Bird Woodring, Samantha Bird and Morgan Elmore; and one great-grandson, Edward Thomas Woodring; two brothers, Clarence Belcher and wife, Helen, of Elyria, Ohio; and Eugene Belcher and wife, Jean, of Princeton; and one sister, Glenna Brown of Oakvale.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, 2005 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Olen Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at the funeral home 12 noon until the service hour on Friday.

Ronald E. Honaker Sr.

NORTH LAWRENCE, Ohio — Ronald E. Honaker Sr., 67, died Monday evening, Dec. 19, 2005, at Massillon Community Hospital following an extended illness.

Ron was born in Hinton Jan. 30, 1938, to the late Ohmer and Hazel (Cook) Honaker and was a resident of the Massillon area for 45 years. He was a 1955 Hinton High School graduate. Ron retired from Republic Steel in 1995, following 39 years of service as a manager. He enjoyed wood working and building homes.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Billy Ray Honaker; and a sister, Mary Helen Snuffer.

Ron is survived by his wife, Violet (Angell) Honaker, with whom he celebrated 46 years of marriage on Feb. 2, 2005, daughter and son-in-law, Saundra and Ken Reed of Massillon; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Gay Honaker Jr. of Massillon, Dale and Stephanie Honaker of North Lawrence; brother, Joe D. Honaker of West Virginia; granddaughters, Brittany Bowen, Samantha, Ashton, Morgan and Alyssa Honaker; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Bowen.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon with Dr. Larry Emery officiating. Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Interment will follow the services at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Stark County VNS and Hospice, 845 8th St. NE, Massillon, Ohio 44646.

William Donald Curry

TIOGA — William Donald Curry, 69, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charles E. Ellison

OAK HILL — Charles E. Ellison, 58, passed away suddenly on Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born Oct. 5, 1948, in Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Alvin Harrison Ellison Sr. and Ethel Marie Campbell Ellison.

A lifelong resident of Oak Hill, Charles was a self-employed mechanic. He enjoyed being with his family, especially the grandchildren. He was known by many and will be greatly missed by his beloved family and friends.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war.

Charles was preceded in death by three brothers, Ricky Lynn Ellison, Melvin “Sonny” Lee Ellison and Robert Ellison Sr.; and a sister, Linda Silke.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred A. Blankenship Ellison; two sons, David E. Ellison of Oak Hill and Charles L. Ellison and wife, Tammy, of Oak Hill; three brothers, Alvin H. “Butch” Ellison and wife, Dianne, of Hilltop, Jennings K. Ellison and wife, Kathryn C., of Oak Hill and James Ray Ellison and wife, Sharon, of Oak Hill; five sisters, Ruby Jean Rose and Frank Osborne of Germantown, Md., June Archer and husband, Earl, of Lynhurst, Va., Joetta McBride of Germantown, Md., Judy K. Helton of Kilsyth and Natella Archer of Gram, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Mary Ellison, Sara Ellison and Tommy Smith, all of Oak Hill.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Allen Gallimore officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum No. 1, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be David Ellison, Steve Ellison, James Ellison, Marcus Ellison, Josh Ellison, Ronnie Helton, Fred McBride and Brian Ellison.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, Memorial and Honor, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720 or the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, 126 Court St., Charleston WV 25301.

Stephen R. Engels

Stephen “Steve” Richard Engels of Daniels died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006. He was 57 years of age.

Born July 20, 1949, in Easton, Pa., Steve was the son of Betty Eckroth Engels of Philadelphia, Pa., and the late Richard Engels.

Steve spent his childhood in Philadelphia. He attended Penn State, where he played football, graduating in 1969, with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force. Formerly employed with Square D, he was a longtime resident of Lancaster, Pa., settling in the Beckley area in 2002.

A member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, he was a volunteer of Hospice of Southern West Virginia and an assistant football coach at Shady Spring High School.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his loyal companions, Mace and Saddie.

Survivors in addition to his mother are his wife, Sue Jasa Engels; his children, Christine Engels of West Chester, Pa.; a son, David Engels, a student at Penn State; a sister, Susan Egan and her husband, John, of Atco, N.J.; and his loyal companions, Koby and Bandit.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Lukes’ Lutheran Church, 700 Maxwell Hill Road, with Pastor Wanda Childs officiating. Stephen’s ashes will be interred in Arlington National cemetery.

Donations of sympathy can be made to the Hospice of Southern West Virginia Inc., P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802 or St. Lukes Lutheran Church, 700 Maxwell Hill Road, Beckley, WV 25801.

Charles Leonard Garten

HINTON — Charles Leonard Garten, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at his home after a long illness.

He leaves behind to honor and cherish his wonderful memory his wife and best friend, Jean; daughters, Thelma of Hinton and Regina of Cross Lanes; grandson, Rex at West Virginia University in Morgantown; and Rex’s dad, David Van Noy of Charlotte, N.C.

Leonard attended River Valley Baptist Church, was a Korean War veteran and retired from West Virginia Power.

Graveside rites will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Huffman cemetery, Buck, with Pastor Sam Haught officiating. Burial will follow. A luncheon to celebrate his life will be held immediately afterward in the River Valley Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Leonard felt he preached his own funeral with his own life and nothing could be said to add anything to it.

John 14:1-3: Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. I my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greenbrier Valley Hospice, 540 N. Jefferson St., Box 7, Suite D, Lewisburg, WV 24901.

Pallbearers will be Doug Lowry, Dayton Lowry, Charlie Lowry, Freddy McDaniel, Gene Tabor and J.D. Tilghman.

There will be no visitation.

The funeral procession will leave River Vlaley Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Phyllis Jean Greco

Phyllis Jean Greco, 68, of Beckley, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006.

Anne C. Gwinn

SALEM, Ohio — Anne C. Gwinn, 87, a resident at Blossom Nursing Home, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 21, 1918, at Thayer to Logan and Alice Gwinn.

Ms. Gwinn was a longtime resident of Salem. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a technician in the Women’s Air Corps.

She is survived by her sister, Eva Rohrbaugh of Salem; her grandchildren, John Gwinn of Minneapolis, Minn., Kelly Gwinn of Las Vegas, Nev., Samantha Gwinn of Washington, D.C., and Joseph Haley of Wilmington, Del.; nieces, Sue Isaacs Lewis of Lisbon, Ohio, and Trudy Douglas and Tracy Mull of Salem, Ohio; nephews, Paul Gerwig of Salem and Donald Isaacs of Raleigh, N.C.; and all their children.

Preceding her in death were her son, John Logan Gwinn; sisters, Sally Gwinn and Laura Gwinn; and her nephew, David Isaacs.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Gwinn cemetery, Lockbridge.

Flowers can be sent to Stark Memorial Funeral Home, 1014 E. State St., Salem, Ohio.

Geneva May Hefner

MARLINTON — Geneva May Hefner, 92, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Edray United Methodist Church. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at VanReenen Funeral Home, Marlinton.

Helen Hankins Kerns

ALDERSON — Helen Hankins Kerns, 72, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006.

Born March 20, 1934, at Spice, she was the daughter of the late Santford Z. and Mary V. Hankins.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Warren H. Hankins, and a sister, Phyllis J. Hankins.

She was a member of Alderson Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Gail M. Kerns; daughters, Connie McCutcheon and husband, Tony Mack, of Ronceverte, Bridget Woolwine and husband, Billy Joe, of Appomattox, Va., Cindy Faulkner and husband, Marshall, of Phoenix, Va., and Debbie Sheppard and husband, Carlos, of Ennis, Texas; a son, Biernie “Dutch” Deskins and wife, Shirley, of Moneta, Va.; sisters, Barbara Deskins and husband, Russell, of Sinks Grove and Iris Kirby and fiancé, Bob Wilson, of Ronceverte; brother, Walter Hankins and wife, Patricia, of Rupert; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Harry Jackson, the Rev. James “Sonny” Deskins and the Rev. Dave Workman officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
