DAMASCUS, Md. — Carlos Bonds, 73, died Friday, May 4, 2007, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. He was the loving husband of Mary Frances Mikel Bonds. They were married in 1955.
Born July 18, 1933, at Edwight, W.Va., he was the son of the late Quill and Daffie Clay Bonds.
Mr. Bonds served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He owned and operated Westbard Citgo in Bethesda, Md., for 43 years.
Survivors besides his wife include four children, Paula McAllister of Pennsylvania, Terry Bonds and wife, Susan, Tim Bonds and John Bonds and wife, Laurie Bonds, all of Maryland; three brothers, Clyde Bonds, Larry Bonds and Dale Bonds, all of West Virginia; two sisters, Betty Lou Bonds of West Virginia and Marie Adams of Florida; and four grandchildren, Melissa Bonds, Kristina McAllister, Kimberly McAllister and Page Bonds.
Friends may call 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Molesworth-Williams P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Md.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be private.

Jeter Ronald ‘J.R.’ Carpenter
DEFIANCE, Ohio — Jeter Ronald “J.R.” Carpenter, 81, died 9:20 a.m. Sunday, May 6, 2007, at his residence.
Born Sept. 8, 1925, in Plumtree, N.C., he was the son of the late Ronald Carpenter and Ethel J. Burleson Carpenter.
Mr. Carpenter was a retired millwright at SK Wayne Tool in Defiance. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran.
Survivors include a son, Lyndel Carpenter and wife, Ruby, of Defiance; two stepgrandchildren; a brother, Wesley Carpenter and wife, Shelby, of Coal City; and two sisters, Elizabeth Farley of Dover, Del., and Velma Barnes of Westland, Mich.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance, with the Rev. Robert Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside cemetery in Defiance.

AUSTIN, Texas — Margaret A. Craighead Fink, 87, formerly of Scarbro, died Friday, March 16, 2007, at her home.
A brief service of interment will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the Wildwood cemetery off South Kanawha Street in Beckley.

Helen Virginia Harmon
Helen Virginia Harmon, age 88, of Beckley, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2007.
Born Oct. 28, 1918, in Tazewell, Va., she was the daughter of Virginia Grubb Jones and Joysie Clarence Jones.
Helen was a faithful, long-standing member of the Maxwell Hill Baptist Church. She retired from Pinecrest Hospital Laundry after 25 years of service. Her hobbies included needlework, gardening and fishing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bill” Harmon; grandson, Jay Sparks; brother-in-law John Crostic; sister-in-law Eleanor Jones; niece Brenda Jones.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Martha Harmon Ford and Shirley Harmon Sparks and her husband Tom, all of Prosperity; granddaughter, Barbara Sparks Kosnoski and her husband Gerald of Canfield, Ohio; grandson, Tim Ford and his wife Dawn of Bristol, Conn.; and granddaughter, Barbara Fox Sparks of Bradley; one sister, Mary Crostic of Hartford City, Ind.; one brother, J.C. Jones Jr. of Tazewell, Va.; a niece, Linda Hale and her husband Mike of Tazewell, Va.; and a nephew, Gene Meadows and his wife Sheila of Hartford City, Ind. Six great-grandchildren also survive her. She will be lovingly missed by all that knew her.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Rev. Ken Killen officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be members of Maxwell Hill Baptist Church.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Lester Roy Hefner, 81, passed away Sunday evening, May 6, 2007, at his home following a short illness.
He was born Oct. 3, 1925, at Frankford; he was the son of the late Rufus Hefner and Althea Miller.
Mr. Hefner was a World War II veteran and a former employee of Bill Lewis Motors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, William Hefner and Kyle Hefner; sisters, Violet Hefner and Eula Hefner Steele.
Surviving are his companion of 14 years, Dorothy Harbaugh of White Sulphur Springs; a son, Michael Hefner and wife, Debbie, of Fairlea; three daughters, Linda Larue and husband, Edgar, of Lewisburg, Kay Hefner of Hampstead, Md., and Betty Waters and companion, Roger Whittington, of Front Royal, Va.; three sisters, Beulah Hefner Belcher of Fairlea, Shirley Massie and husband, Billy, of Lewisburg, and Evelyn Miller of Frankford; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Lula Collins and the Rev. Lewis Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Lewisburg.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Mark Alan Holliday, 53, formerly of Charmco, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2007, in the Gwinnett Medical Center at Lawrenceville following a short illness.
Born on Aug. 17, 1953, in Greenbrier County, he was the son of Launa Nutter Holliday of Charmco and the late Clyde Junior Holliday.
He is also preceded in death by a brother, Bruce, and a sister, Brenda Holliday.
Mark retired from TruGreen/ChemLawn after 30 years of service.
In addition to his mother, Mark is survived by his son, Caleb Holliday, and his daughter, Rhianna Holliday, both of Lawrenceville, Ga.; five brothers, Richard of Troy, Ohio, Russell of Baltimore, Md., Kenny of Columbia, S.C., Dennis of Charmco and Donald Holliday of Lilburn, Ga.; three sisters, Sarah Hobbs of Lawrenceville, Ga., Linda Pepiot and Marilyn Raymount, both of Troy, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

ANSTED — Jackie Lee Miller, 68, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007, following a short illness.
Born Dec. 26, 1938, at Martha, W.Va., he was the son of the late Henry L. Miller and Vira W. Brackenrich Miller.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles A. Miller.
He was a retired Sergeant of the West Virginia State Police with 29 years of service.
Jackie is survived by his wife, Sue Miller; a daughter, Jeretta Ford and husband, Rick, of London; three sons, Cary L. Miller and wife, April, of Millboro, Va., John C. Miller and wife, Kim, of Lerona, and Jack A. Miller and wife, Tina, of Ripley; six grandchildren, Katie, Kayla, Logan, Levi, Sam and Olivia.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Ansted, with the Rev. Stanley Epling officiating. Burial will follow in Jeanette cemetery at Lookout.
Graveside rites will be conducted by West Virginia State Police Honor Guards.

Joy Meador Patterson
CALDWELL — Joy Meador Patterson, 72, formerly of Hinton, died at 10:26 a.m. Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center at Fairlea, following a short illness.
Born June 21, 1934, at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Lacy Frank and Lula Blanche Gill Grimmett.
Ms. Patterson was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She had lived for several years at Caldwell with her loving husband, Sandy Patterson.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Fred Meador; three sisters, Rhoda Bennett, Betty L. Wallace and Thelma Ward; a brother, Emerson Billy Grimmett; and a stepson, Ricky Patterson.
Survivors include her husband, Sandy Patterson; a daughter, Ethel Mansfield of Forest Hill; four stepsons, Ray Patterson of Oklahoma City, Okla., Michael Patterson of Fairlea, Randy Patterson of Sam Black, and Billy Patterson of Union; two stepdaughters, Brenda Carter of Caldwell, and Sandra Davis of Greenbelt, Md.; a brother, Cecil Grimmett and wife, Wilma, of Nimitz; a sister, Nanny Baker of Elk Knob; two grandchildren, Jonathan Meador and companion, Stephanie Lilly, and Kasondra Mansfield Lilly; five great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Tyler, and Donavon Meador, Kelly Farley and Sierra Goins; and 10 stepgrandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Lawrence Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens, Hinton.
