PRINCETON — Ricky D. Taylor, 49, died Monday, May 7, 2007.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton.

Lam Tony Vo

Lam Tony Vo, 44, formerly of Glen Daniel, went to be with the Lord on April 19, 2007, following a short illness.

Lam was currently residing in Los Angeles, Calif. He was a 1980 graduate of Liberty High School at Glen Daniel. He played football and wrestled for four years.

He is survived by his sister, Kim Barber and her husband, Marvin, of Glen Daniel; and three special nephews, Marvin Tommy Barber Jr. of Preston County, Gary Barber of Steerling, Va., and Patrick Barber of Middletown, Md.; and lots of family and friends.

A short memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Coal Marsh Baptist Church at Glen Daniel with speaker Jerry Brooks Jr. and Tommy Barber.

All are invited to attend the memorial service.

Robert David Noblin

PETERSTOWN — Robert David Noblin, 39, formerly of Flint, Mich., died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Virginia Marie Skaggs

Virginia Marie Skaggs, 88, a resident of Greystone Inn at Beaver, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, following a long illness.

Born March 6, 1917, at Thayer, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Thomas Settle Sr. and Ethel Neacie Morton Settle.

Mrs. Skaggs attended college for two years at New River State College (WV Tech). She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beckley, and a girl scout troop leader. She worked for Gilmer Insurance Agency and was a former employee of the Bank of Raleigh. While in Beckley, she served as president of Woodrow Wilson High School band mothers. In 1963, she moved to Clearwater, Fla., where she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rotary in Bellaire Bluffs, Fla. She was a member of the Board of Realtors in Clearwater, Fla., and served as a volunteer at Suncoast Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Mark Skaggs; a sister, Dorothy Settle McCutcheon, and a brother, John Settle.

Surviving children are Patricia Marie Smith and husband, Harry, of Blairsville, Ga., Thomas Mark Skaggs and wife, Margaret, of Fayetteville, N.C., and Alfred Mack Skaggs of Beckley, W.Va.; a brother, Benjamin T. Settle Jr. of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Nina Neff of Cross Lanes, W.Va., and Lucille Campbell of Hurricane, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Shelley Smith, Alan Skaggs, Shea Loewen, Todd Skaggs, Angela Farmer, Vickie Champlin and Ivy Jo Leate, 13 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be noon today at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, 1901 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley, with Pastor Rollan Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 10 a.m. until service time today.

Pallbearers will be Alan Skaggs, Todd Skaggs, Gary McCutcheon, Jeary Neff, David Lickliter and Randy Lickliter.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Smith, Paul Malcolm, Emory Withrow, Ken Campbell, Garland McCutcheon, Ray Morrison, Jeff Loewen and Eddie Farmer.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gideons International or the Hospice of Southern West Virginia, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25801.

Leon McDonald Steffey

OCEANA — Leon McDonald Steffey, 65, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at his home in Oceana following a long illness. Leon’s passing was peaceful and he was surrounded by the comfort and love of his family.

Born in Pike County, Ky., Feb. 8, 1940, he was a graduate of Betsy Layne High School in Betsy Layne, Ky. After graduating, he spent three years in the U.S. Army, having served in Korea. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the Pineville Masonic Lodge No. 138 and Beni Kedem Shrine Temple in Charleston. Leon had a particular fondness for helping crippled children and burn victims through the Shriner’s Hospital. Many children and their families were blessed because of this hard work and dedication to their cause.

Leon was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Monroe Steffey; mother, Cynthia Ann Steffey; brothers, Leonard Jr., Claude and Charlie; and sisters, Naomi, Harriet Dean and May Fern Worrix.

Leon was married to Nancy Barber from 1961 to 1992. This union gave him his most precious pride and joy, their son, Barry Joel; and grandchildren, Cassie and Austin.

Survivors include Barry and his wife, Angie; a granddaughter, Cassandra “Cassie” and a grandson, Austin, all of Oceana. Other survivors include brothers, John “Pitts” Steffey of Oceana and wife, Wanda, and James Steffey of Tram, Ky., and wife, Margaret. Surviving sisters are Martha Ellen Elkins of Oceana, Bonnie Adkins of Davenport, Fla., Magdalene Scalf of Oceana, Helen Smith of Tram, Ky., and husband, George, Eulah Sartor of Sesser, Ill., Loretta Harvel of Tram, Ky., Hannah Whisenant of Oceana and husband, Bryant, and Kay Horton of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and husband, Frank.

Leon was also survived by 29 nieces and nephews and a host of great- and great-great nieces and nephews.

Family viewing will be 5 to 6 p.m. tonight at the Stafford Family Funeral Home at Lynco. Friends may visit 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at the Stafford Family Funeral Home with Algie Cook and Joe Besenyei officiating. Graveside rites will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny.

Pallbearers will be Terry Osborne, Danny Osborne, Johnny Ball, Johnny Roach, Timmy Steffey and Toney Adkins; and honorary pallbearer will be J.R. Adkins.

The family is being served by Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco.

Gary Stowers

Gary Stowers, 54, of Josephine, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at Summers County Hospital.

Royal W. Vint

MARIANNA — Royal W. Vint, 74, passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, in a Welch hospital following a long illness.

Born Sept. 30, 1931, in Boone County, he was the son of the late Harry and Virgie Kidd Vint.

Mr. Vint was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. But most of all, he enjoyed being with his grandchildren and being with people.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Hatfield Vint, on July 2, 1995; five brothers, J.R., Hershel, Curtis, Roger and Rondal Vint; and two sisters, Opal Sparks and Mary Belcher.

Survivors include a son, Chris Vint and his wife, Christinia, of Marianna; a daughter, Rebecca Houchins and her husband, Fred of Marianna; a brother, Kenny Vint of Lynco; a sister, Alice Trent of Ohio; two granddaughters, Jennifer Green and Amanda Cameron; and three great-grandchildren, Kelli Cameron, Gabrielle Green and Brady Green.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at Marianna Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Chris Vint and Randy Lusk officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call 12 noon until time of the service today at the church.

Calfee Funeral Service of Pineville is serving the Vint family.

Leonard Wood

Leonard Wood, 81, of Odd, went to his heavenly home on Dec. 18, 2005, at home surrounded by family and friends.

Born at Beeson, on Dec. 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Attie and Ed Wood and was the last surviving member of his family.

He worked as a mine electrician and was a retired UMWA member. He was instrumental in organizing the Raleigh County Community Action and the Ghent Area Fire Department. He had a special place in his heart for children and those in need. He was a Christian and member of the Odd Community Church and spent a great deal of time spreading the gospel.

His favorite past times were hunting and riding his four-wheeler.

He was preceded in death by twin sons, Leonard Michael and Teddy Mack; four brothers, Turner, Roy, Howard and Archie Wood; and two sisters, Lucy Mullins and Louella Blevins.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elsie Marie; three sons, Stephen and his wife, Deana, of Flat Top, Larry and his wife, Christine, of Odd, Ronnie and his wife, Diana, of Beckley; two daughters, Barbara Meadows and her husband, David, of Odd, and Judy Wood of Odd; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and was looking forward to the arrival of the sixth. He is also survived by a special friend of the family, Frances Mills, of Flat Top.

Service will be 2:30 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Shady Spring Chapel with his son, the Rev. Ron Wood and wife, Diana, officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Meadows, Jason Campbell, Nathanael Wood, Jonathan Wood, Bob Blankenship and Joey McDaniel.

Friends called 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Shady Spring.

Lynn D. Worlledge

FAIRLEA — Lynn Douglas Worlledge, 62, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Dec. 24, 2005, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, one mile west of the intersection of 219 North and Rt 60 in Lewisburg on Rt 60 West.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

James ‘Jim’ Absher

ANSTED — Another member of the greatest generation has left us to join the roll call of heroes in Heaven. James “Jim” Absher, 82, of Ansted, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at Summersville Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born July 7, 1923, at Queen Shoals, he was the son of the late James K. Absher and Etta Mae Bostic Absher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Etta Mae Absher; two brothers, Clifford Leslie Absher of Charlottesville, Va., and Eugene Edgar “Cat” Absher of Beckwith; three sisters, Edith Absher Walls of Charleston, Beulah Bethel Absher Rice of Charlottesville and Beatrice Blanche Absher Walker of Charlottesville; a grandson, Jeffery Kevin Sizemore of Ansted; and a granddaughter, Mescheal Yvette Sizemore of Ansted.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eileen Mary Winifred Collins Absher, originally from London, England; a daughter, Deidre Absher of Ansted; a son, David Absher and his wife, Rebecca “Becky,” of Maple Fork; a brother, Ralph Absher and his wife, Yvonne, of Schereville, Ind.; five grandchildren, James K. “Jim” Sizemore and his wife, Denise, of Mount Hope, Jerri Michelle “Missy” “Iodine” Sizemore Kirkland and her husband, Timothy, of Summersville, Kristi Absher Mullenax and her husband, Craig, of Morgantown, Shane Absher of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Jesse Reid “J.R.” Sizemore of Ansted; a great-granddaughter, Kelsiann Eileen Sizemore of Mount Hope; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Eugene Edgar “Junior” Absher Jr. and his wife, Rosa, of Oak Hill.

James was a member of Lovers Leap Baptist Church, Ansted, where he served on the Board of Deacons for many years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force and was honorably discharged at the rank of corporal. He served in the Military Police Corps stationed at Ridgewell Air Force Base in England during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 149, Fayetteville, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ansted. He was a member of Hayden Masonic Lodge No. 113, Ansted. He was retired from the West Virginia Division of Highways where he served as the Fayette County supervisor for several years.

During the course of his life he touched the lives of all who knew him. He died as he lived, surrounded by his family. He is sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and his many friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Steven Fridenmaker officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Ansted, with military rites to be conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post 3110.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Eugene Absher Jr., Frank Ferrell, Bob Wells, Jeff Armentrout, Wayne Armentrout and Jack Wooldridge.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of arrangements.
