Jackie Lee Toler

LONG BRANCH — Jackie Lee Toler, 53, of Long Branch, went to be with the Lord after a mining accident in Wharton, on Friday, April 7, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Long Branch Freewill Baptist Church. Friends may call after 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the church.

The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco.

Lettie Mae Walls

Lettie Mae Walls, of Helen, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the age of 90 years young, at the Hilltop Center, Hilltop, W.Va.

Born September 9, 1915 in McDowell County, she was the daughter of Robert and Maggie Bailey. She lived several years in Wyoming and Raleigh County.

She was a member of Reedy Methodist Church in Wyoming County and attended Baptist Church in Helen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Walls; daughters, Diana Stepp and Carole Thompson; sister, Marie Stone; and a brother, Jay C. Bailey.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Barney and wife, Mary Jo Walls, of Beckley, Reginald and wife, Brenda, of Sophia; daughters, Shirley and husband, Delmar Blankenship, of Baisden and Sonja Walls of Loganville, Ga.; brothers, Fred Bailey of Hanover, Kincel Bailey of Kistler, Billy Bailey of Beckley, Jimmy Bailey of Cleveland; sisters, Opal Roberts of Toms River, N.J., Janice Butner of Williamsburg, Va., Freda Billings of Glen White and Helen Graham of Mullens; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many special friends.

Funeral service will be 7:30 p.m. today, April 10, 2006 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with Rev. Richard Wagoner officiating and Mrs. Vickie Billings will be singing.

Committal service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5250 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with Rev. Richard Wagoner officiating.

Grandsons and nephew, Bobby Stone, will be serving as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary ‘Jenny’ Nary

Mary Virginia “Jenny” Nary, 82, of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2006.

Born Jan. 3, 1924, at Red Jacket, she was the daughter of the late Bryant Wooldridge and the late Maggie Ford Wooldridge.

Jenny attended Cranberry Community Church and Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Jenny was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Nary; a son, Bryant “Burr” Nary; and a brother, Charlie Wooldridge.

Those left to cherish her memory include her four daughters, Shevona Shamblin and husband, David, of Beckley, Sandy Withrow and husband, Harold, of Brunswick, Ohio, Elinore Skaja and husband, Joe, of Arlington and Janet Streine and husband, Don, of Corpus Christie, Texas; three sons, Noah Nary Jr. of Beckley, Roger Nary of Mount Hope and Randy Nary and wife, Christie, of Roanoke, Va.; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Service will be 3 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with Associate Pastor Okey Slate officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Dr. David Shamblin, Brian Wooldridge, Brandon Wooldridge, John Wooldridge Jr., James Lilly and David Tiberio will be serving as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family 2 p.m. until time of service today at the funeral home.

Mona K. Senter

NARROWS, Va. — Mona K. Senter, 75, passed away Friday, April 7, 2006.

Graveside service and burial will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Peterstown cemetery. Friends may call one hour before service Sunday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown.

Josh Vest

Josh Vest, 82, of Shady Spring, with his family by his side, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a short illness.

Born at Jumping Branch, on Feb. 26, 1923, he was the son of the late Joe and Izola Furrow Vest.

Mr. Vest was a retired coal miner and was of the Baptist faith. He finished his career with Westmoreland Coal Co., at the Riffe’s Branch Division as an electrician. Josh served his country during World War II.

He was a simple man who lived a simple life while working to improve the lives of his family. Josh was a jack-of-all-trades, and the community handyman. He never turned away a person needing a helping hand. His passion of fabricating homemade inventions in his workshop never ceased, even after losing his eyesight.

Josh was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was preceded in death by brothers Earl, Andy, Omer, Jack, and Hubert Kesler Vest, and his sisters Georgia and Mebel Vest, his beloved son-in-law Christie Meadows and his loyal companion and best friend Trixie.

Survivors include his wife Hulda Smith Vest, a son Howard Vest and wife Karen of Beckley, and daughter Ruth Vest Meadows of Shady Spring. Also grandchildren Christy Ann Meadows Harvey and husband Tommy of Summers County; Amanda Lynn Meadows and James Joshua “J.J.” Meadows of Shady Spring. Surviving stepgrandchildren include Lisa Withrow and husband Keith of Prosperity; Brittany Pachuta of Beckley; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Ellie Withrow of Prosperity, and numerous friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Blizard officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Vest’s memory to the Christie H. Meadows Memorial Scholarship, in care of Shady Spring High School, 300 Hinton Road, Shady Spring, WV 25918.

Clyde Wood

ANSTED — Clyde Wood passed away Dec. 19, 2005.

Arrangements are incomplete.

Arleen Austin

Arleen Austin, of Beckley, died 12:33 a.m. Dec. 22, 2005, at her home following a short illness.

Born at Caperton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry Austin and Gussie Saunders Austin.

Mrs. Austin was employed 39 years with the Rahall family including Congressman Nick Joe Rahall. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, and a member of the Church Choir under the direction of Mrs. Corey O. Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Louvenia Austin and Marie Lawson; a brother, Wesley Austin; a sister, Oretha Jackson; and a niece, Linda Jackson.

Survivors include two sisters, Estelle Austin of Charleston, W.Va., and Elizabeth Fletcher of Long Island, N.Y.; nephews and (little brother) Clarence Jackson of New York, N.Y., nephews, Bernard, Jerry, Keith, Micheal, Larry and Alfonso, all of Maryland, Darnell of Talcott and special relatives, Alfonso Lawson and Joyce of Maryland.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor with the Rev. David McDowell officiating.

Friends may call one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral parlor.

Services entrusted to Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.

Stanley Belcher

Stanley Belcher, 53, of Fairdale, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2005.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, is serving the family.

Guy ‘Eddie’ Britton

Guy Edward “Eddie” Britton, 68, of 786 S. Fayette St., Beckley, died 11:15 a.m. Dec. 19, 2005, at his home following an extended illness.

Born Aug. 13, 1937, in Durham, N.C., he was the son of the late Andrew Britton and Virgie Cassidy Britton.

Mr. Britton joined the military in 1954 and received several awards, including National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Medical Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Guy Edward Britton retired from the military on June 6, 1976.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include three children, Reggie Britton and wife, Sharon, of Dallas, Texas, Randall Gillespie and wife, Veronica, of Durham, N.C., and Ernest Gillespie and wife, Glennis, of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Reggie Britton Jr., Kendall Britton, Quincy Britton, Randall Thompson, Derand Gillespie, Brandon Gillespie, Eric Jones, Tanika Jones and Jacquetta Gillespie; three siblings, Dorothy McNeil of Durham, N.C., Ama Britton of Durham, N.C., and James Craig of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his companion, Earline Gainey of Beckley; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel with Pastor David Allen officiating.

Friends may call one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the funeral parlor.

Donna P. Coffman

LEWISBURG — Donna P. Coffman, 64, died at the Brier Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Fairlea, Dec. 24, 2005, following a long and courageous illness.

She was born Nov. 5, 1941, the daughter of the late Elmer and Mae Flack Persinger.

Mrs. Coffman was an active member of the Lewisburg United Methodist Church, having served as president of the United Methodist Women, co-chaired the annual Christmas Bazaar for two years, was an active member of Circle No. 2 and a member of the Christian Home Sunday School Class.

She held membership in the Lewisburg Lioness Club for many years, having served as president twice as well as holding various other offices in the club. Mrs. Coffman retired following 30 years of service from the Division of Rehabilitation at their office in Lewisburg. She was co-owner with her husband in the operation of Triple C. Farm located near Lewisburg.

A graduate of Lewisburg High School and Greenbrier College for Women, she was employed as secretary to president of the college for several years.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Benny and Wayne Persinger.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Jimmie H. Coffman; a son, Michael W. Coffman of Vinton, Va.; daughter, Lynn McMillion and husband, Brett, of Hinton; three grandchildren, Scott Coffman of Minneapolis, Minn., Samantha and Travis McMillion of Hinton.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at the Lewisburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joseph S. Kenaston and the Rev. Elizabeth Yost officiating. Burial will follow in the Coffman cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the McCraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg.

Marie Acord Cook

On Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, Marie Acord Cook of Rossi Avenue, Eccles, went to be with the Lord at a Beckley hospital following a long illness. She was in her 70th year.

Born Illa Marie Acord on Sept. 4, 1935, on the Crouch Farm in Fairdale, she was the daughter of the late Ward and Sarah (Acord) Acord.

A lifelong resident of Raleigh County, Marie was a graduate of Trap Hill High School. A homemaker, she was a longtime resident of the Eccles community where she was a member of the Eccles First Baptist Church.

Marie will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Murphy Cook, in 1994.

Survivors include three sons, Monroe Cook and his wife, Carol, and Hudd Cook, all of Eccles, and James Cook of Dillwyn, Va.; and her only grandchild, Morgan.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Garry Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Cook Family cemetery at Peach Tree in the community of Naomi.

Friends may call one hour before the services on Monday.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley.
