Clifton Okey Hysell

OAK HILL — Clifton Okey Hysell, 85, of Oak Hill, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at home following a long illness.

He was born Dec. 29, 1919, at Bickmore, the son of the late Rev. Clad and Martha Williams Hysell.

Mr. Hysell was a retired coal miner for Central Appalachian Coal, Morris Creek. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Oak Hill, UMWA District 17, and he was also a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

The Hysell family wishes to extend a very special thanks to Chris Brash and Hospice of Southern West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dreama A. Patrick; a brother, Roy Hysell; and five sisters, Netti Oney, Mildred Dawson, Pearlie Nichols, Goldie Duncan and Ethel Legg.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Hysell, a son, Steve Hysell Sr. and wife, Cindy, of Oak Hill; a special niece, Janet Kaczmarski; four grandchildren, Kim Rust, Steve Hysell Jr., Heather Willoughby and Chris Hysell; and five great-grandchildren, Trent Rust, Gavin Rust, Brianna Hysell, Alexis Hysell and Dennis Willoughby IV.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Pete Lokant and the Rev. Jimmy Menefee officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Visitation will be 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bret Rust, Sammy Jasper, Frank Kaczmarski, Steve Hysell Jr., Jonathan Mack and Terry Kaczmarski.

Ila Massey

Ila Massey, 91, of Ghent, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2005, at Sunbridge Pinelodge Extended Care Center following a long illness.

Born April 26, 1914, at Camp Creek, she was the daughter of the late Syrus and Olive Ellison Lilly.

Mrs. Massey was a charter member of Ghent Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the Shady Spring Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Basil, Cyril, James, Eugene, Kenneth Ray and Dallas Lilly; sisters, Irene Lilly Reynolds and Georgia Lilly Shumate; and sons, Reginald, Ronald and Vernon.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas H. Massey; a son, Richard of Alabama; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Committal service will be 3 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley, with the Rev. Doug Walls officiating. Burial will follow.

There will be no visitation.

Thomas Matheny

Thomas Matheny, 58, of Beckley, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005.

Douglas Wayne Murdock

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Douglas Wayne Murdock, 28, of Thomasville, formerly of Glen Fork, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, is serving the family.

Francis ‘Frank’ Dewey Navicki

HILLTOP — Francis “Frank” Dewey Navicki, 43, died at his residence in Hilltop on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005.

Barry Allen Plumley

Barry Allen “Buck” Plumley, 60, of Cool Ridge, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at his home following a long illness.

Born July 21, 1945, at White Sulphur Springs, he was a son of the late Roscoe C. and Martha Jarvis Plumley.

He was raised on Plumley Mountain in Raleigh County, was a disabled journeyman roofer, a member of the Nehemiah Baptist Church and a man who enjoyed treasure hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Nedra Allen Plumley; four sons, Barry Allen Plumley Jr., of New York, Kyle Cherry and wife, Heather, of New York, Carl Plumley of New York and Jerry Dale Plumley of Cool Ridge; three daughters, Dawn Schick and husband, Paul, of New York, Elaine Beeghly and husband, Mike, of Florida and Tammy Thoman of Ohio; a brother, Randy Plumley and wife, Jo Ann; three sisters, Penny Fitzpatrick and husband, Jimmy, of Jumping Branch, Gloria Glover and husband, Dick, of White Sulphur Springs and Sharon Napier and husband, John, of Lewisburg; and 11 grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Brian Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Washington-Plumley cemetery, Plumley Mountain.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral parlor.

Emery Plumley, Dale Allen, Matt O’Keefe, Michael O’Keefe, Justin Bragg, Ed Meadows and Clinton Cochran will serve as pallbearers.

Thank you to Hospice of Southern West Virginia for all the special care afforded the family.

Hazel Leach Robinson

Hazel Leach Robinson, 64, of Beckley, passed away at Raleigh General Hospital following a short illness on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005.

Born Dec. 3, 1941, in Lillybrook, she was the daughter of the late Emmit and Janie Leach.

Mrs. Robinson was a housewife and homemaker for 45 years to Willie B Robinson Jr. She had two sons, Willie Robinson III and wife, Myrna, of Von Ormy, Texas, and Garry Robinson and wife, Joyce, of Danese.

In addition to her parents, she had a brother, Earl, and a sister, Delores, precede her in death.

Survivors include two brothers, Jimmy Leach and wife, Diana, of Sprague and Arnold Leach and wife, Frances, of Whitey; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Elder James Leach and Elder Arnold Leach officiating.

Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Albert Eugene Rudisill

WOLF CREEK — Albert Eugene Rudisill, 64, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Virginia M. ‘Ginny’ Spangler

On Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, Virginia M. “Ginny” Spangler died peacefully at her home on Prosperity Road following a short illness. She was in her 90th year.

Born Virginia May Kidd on Nov. 11, 1915, at Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Elisha and Maggie Bell Stroud Kidd.

Virginia spent her childhood in Beckley on Lincoln Street where she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. Known affectionately as Ginny all her life, she began a career with the C&P Telephone Co. at the age of 17, earning $11 a week as a telephone operator. She was eventually promoted to chief operator, retiring in October 1983 as a traffic service adviser with 48 years, 6 months and 19 days of service. During World War II, Ginny helped establish a message center at Ashford General Hospital, now The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs.

Ginny was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church on Heber Street, where she sang in the choir. She played the piano and was a member of the Chaminade Music Club. She also held memberships in Beckley Woman’s Club and Telephone Pioneers of America and was a charter member of the Beckley Quota Club.

The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Beckley barber Ray Spangler, on March 14, 1980.

Survivors include three nieces, Rose Worley of Beckley, Betty Turley and husband, Buddy, of Montgomery and Dorothy McKinney of Maxwell Hill; a sister-in-law, Ruth Kidd; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 8 today at the mortuary and one hour before service Saturday.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley.

Agnes S. Ward

BELLE — Agnes S. Ward, 92, of Belle, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at the Hubbard Hospice House.

Born July 15, 1913, at Eccles, she was the daughter of the late Robert McNeish Sr. and the late Agnes Steele McNeish.

Mrs. Ward was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey O. Ward Sr.

Survivors include her son, Aubrey O. Ward Jr. and wife, Judy, of North Charleston; two grandchildren, Lisa Ann Young and her husband, Gary, of Hurricane and Susan Rebecca Ward and her companion, Michael, of Charleston; great-grandson, Lucas Ward Young; and stepgranddaughters, Anna Cumptan of Scott Depot and Natasha Hatfield of Culloden.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, with the Rev. Darrell McNeely officiating.

There will be no visitation.

The body has been cremated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennewa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.

Vivian Ruth Wyatt

Vivian Ruth Wyatt, 87, passed away Dec. 27, 2005.

She was born in Fayette County, the daughter of the late Utha A. and Mary Ellen Ingles Peters.

Mrs. Wyatt was preceded in death by her husband, T.C. “Abe” Wyatt.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tim L. and Susan Wyatt of Woodbridge, W.Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mark McCurdy; and a grandson, Eric Tracey Sizemore. Also, a brother, Maurice C. Peters of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Ruby Vann of Atlanta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
