Mary Wylie

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Mary Wylie, 81, formerly of White Sulphur Springs, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at Bell-Minor Nursing Home, Gainsville, Ga., where she had been a resident for the past four years.

One of 13 children, Mary Virginia Lambert was born Oct. 31, 1924, to Elmer and Louisa Lambert.

Mrs. Wylie was preceded in death by her husband, M.B. Wylie; six brothers and a sister.

She is survived by four children, Jody Wylie Pollan of Gainsville, Marsha E. Frisbie of White Sulphur Springs, Kemberly J. Saarela of Douglasville, Ga., and Madison B. Wylie III of Mechanicville, Va. She will be sadly missed by eight grandchildren, Jon and Ben Turner, Abigail and Anna Jane Glascock, Raven and Tyler Frisbie, and Trey and Wade Pollan; and three great-grandchildren, Miles Turner and Michael and Nicholas Pollan. Mrs. Wylie is also survived by a beloved sister, Jeanette Hedrick of Greer, S.C.; and four brothers, Douglas Lambert of Honaker, Va., Don Lambert of Isle of Palms, S.C., Jack Lambert of Covel and Mack Lambert of Martinsburg.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mapledale cemetery, White Sulphur Springs.

Friends and family may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations of sympathy be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Junior ‘J.E.’ Christian

PINEVILLE — Junior “J.E.” Christian, 80, of Pineville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 23, 2005.

He was born Oct. 2, 1925, at Gilbert, son of the late H.E. and Ethel Maynor Christian.

Mr. Christian was a businessman who sold insurance for over 50 years and was the proud owner of J.E. Christian and Assoc. Inc. He loved to be with the public and his family. He never met a stranger. Mr. Christian was a member of the Pineville Southern Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Waitman Christian and Arthur Christian; a sister, Sadie Hatfield; and a son, David Christian.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Frost Christian; two daughters, June Hatcher and her husband Fred of Matheny and Linda Lester and her husband Eddie of Crouch’s Farm; two stepdaughters, Andrea Taylor and Judy Frost, both of Florida; two stepsons, Jerry Frost and Anthony Frost, both of North Carolina; three sisters, Ina Adkins and her husband Robert of Ohio, Zola Duncan and her husband J.L. of Wyoming, and Wanda Angle and her husband Chester of Wyoming; grandchildren, Bryant Christian, Rebecca Kennedy and her husband Bobby, Stephanie Spolarich and her husband Shawn, Kimberly Harrison and her husband Kevin, Tracy Williams and her husband Shane, and Terri Morgan and her husband Timmy; stepgrandchildren, Valerie Harris and her husband William, Cheryl Milam, and Ryan Frost; great-grandchildren, Courtney Kennedy, Derek Kennedy, Morgan Spolarich, Christian Spolarich, Erin Harrison, Eric Williams, Hunter Morgan, Cooper Morgan, Bailey Milam, Cade Milam, Jarreth Windsor, and Ian Harris; numerous nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Linda Conley Christian.

A celebration of his life will be Tuesday at the Pineville Southern Baptist Church from 12 noon until 2 p.m. with funeral service immediately following with Rev. James Kestner officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Pallbearers will be men of Pineville Southern Baptist.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Christian’s name to Pineville Southern Baptist Church Youth Department, P.O. Box 584, Pineville, WV 24874.

Calfee Funeral Service of Pineville is serving the Christian family.

Donna P. Coffman

LEWISBURG — Donna P. Coffman, 64, died at the Brier Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Fairlea, Dec. 24, 2005, following a long and courageous illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at the Lewisburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joseph S. Kenaston and the Rev. Elizabeth Yost officiating. Burial will follow in the Coffman cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the McCraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Lewisburg Lioness Club, c/o Kay Hinkle, Treasurer, 207 Holt Lane, Lewisburg, WV.

Shirley Temple Coffman

BENTON, Ky. — Shirley Temple Coffman, 69, of 2018 Benton Birmingham Road, Benton, Ky., passed away at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at the Lourdes Hospital, Paducah, Ky.

Shirley was a retired factory worker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raleigh Donelow and Hattie Mae (Fitzwater) Donelow; her husband, Herman Coffman; a daughter, Sheila Goodwin; two brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Patty Buchanan of Benton, Ky.; two sons, Rick Satterfield and Karl Work, both of Ravenna, Ohio; a brother, Gilbert Donelow of Minden; three sisters, Charlotte Welling of Midlothian, Va., Mary Shrewsbury of Ravenna, Ohio, and Martha White of Ravenna, Ohio; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at the Collier Funeral Chapel, 211 W. Fifth St., Benton, Ky., with the Rev. Jeff Morehead officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Evert Conrad ‘Connie’ Dooley

SUMMERSVILLE — Evert Conrad “Connie” Dooley, 83, of Summersville, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, in the CAMC General Division.

He was the son of the late A.E. and Nanna McClung Dooley, and was born at Gad, on Oct. 2, 1922.

He retired from C&P Telephone Company with 42 years of service, and was a founding member and coach of the Summersville Little League. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Summersville Baptist Church for 50 years, and served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marie Roberts Dooley; a son, Joe Dooley and wife Juanita of Summersville; a daughter, Karen Broh and husband Pete of Ashville, N.C.; a brother, Andy Dooley of New Bern, N.C.; six grandchildren, Laura, Cindy, Mindy, Jodie, Nikki, and Aaron; and four great-grandchildren, Evan, Camille, Charlene, and Eli.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Summersville Baptist Church, with Dr. Phil Smith, Rev. James Crouch, and Rev. Nelson Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.

Friends may call at the Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville from 7 until 8:30 p.m. this evening.

Sanie Fletcher

Sanie Fletcher, 91, of Sophia, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, following a long illness.

Betty Harvey

SUN HILL — Betty Harvey departed this life Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at her residence, surrounded by her family, at the age of 69 years, three months, and 11 days, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 11, 1936, at Sun Hill, she was the daughter of the late Fred Spratt and Minnie Toler Spratt.

She was a housewife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She loved to be outdoors and go four-wheeling.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Murriell Harvey; a brother, Rhannis Spratt; a brother-in-law, James Blankenship; and a son-in-law, Billy Ray Pritt.

Those left to cherish her memory are her companion, Virgil Ray Shepherd of Clear Fork; two daughters, Barbara “Gail” Harvey Pritt and her companion Randall Profitt of Clear Fork and Diana Gat Gill and her husband Tim of Bland, Va.; two sons, Randy Harvey and his companion Tina West of Clear Fork and Roger M. Harvey and his wife Yulonda of Taylorsville, N.C.; three sisters, Delores Blankenship of Clear Fork, Faye Burrell of Brenton, and Clara Smith of Baileysville; three stepchildren, Lanny Shepherd of Clear Fork, Nellie Tuttle of Oceana, and Lisa Rowe of North Carolina; grandchildren, Kristina St. Clair and her companion Matthew Newberry of Bland, Va., Amanda Lester and her husband Aaron of Hanover, Stephanie Goodman and her husband Denver of Taylorsville, N.C., Danielle Harvey of Justice, Scotty Johnson and his wife Alicia of Oceana, Jason St. Clair and his wife Terri of Oceana, Roger D. Pritt and his companion Lori Lambert of Oceana, Randy Shawn Harvey and his wife Kim of Oceana, and Roger M. Harvey and his companion Kim of Radford, Va.; great-grandchildren, Derek Scott Johnson, Kynli Johnson, Sydney Brooke Pritt, Hannah and Brianne St. Clair, and Chandler Harvey, all of Oceana, Dillion and Gabriel Lester of Hanover; stepgrandchildren, Johnny Ray Pritt and Eddie Ray Pritt; and a host of friends.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be noon Tuesday at the Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Leonard Sizemore and Rev. Farley Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow at the Harvey Family cemetery, Cedar Creek.

Casketbearers will be grandsons, Scotty Johnson, Jason St. Clair, Randy Shawn Harvey, Roger Dean Pritt, Roger Mark Harvey, and Timothy Jesse Gill.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Services entrusted to the Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Steve Grant Addair

IAEGER — Steve Grant Addair, 51, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006.

Service will be 11 a.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home, Iaeger. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dorothy P. Adkins

TALCOTT — Dorothy P. Adkins went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a long illness.

Born in Summers County, she was a daughter of the late John and Caroline Bennett Sears. She was a homemaker who attended Rollynsburg Baptist Church at Talcott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnett Adkins, in 1969; a daughter, Freda Hicks, in 1998; and two grandsons, Gary Hicks, in 1979 and Jonathan Hicks, in 2000.

Survivors include five daughters, Jerolee Adkins of Talcott, Norma Hicks and her husband, Lloyd, of Hinton, Arnell Seldomridge and her husband, Timothy, of Lewisburg, Cindy Spangler and her husband, Robert, of Charlotte, N.C., and Wilma Gardisky of Hinton; a son, Howard Adkins and his wife, Betty, of Talcott; 10 grandchildren, Melissa Workman, David Hicks and his wife, Velma, Eric Hicks, Jay Adkins, Lori Seldomridge, Robert Spangler Jr. and his wife, Emily, Joshua Spangler, Brandi Seldomridge, Robert Gardisky and Justin Adkins; nine great-grandchildren, Tyler Seldomridge, Brandon Workman, Scotty Reed, Téa Workman, Kacey Hicks, Summer Adkins, Alexis Dean, Caleb Hicks and Schuyler Adkins; a brother, Paul Sears of Hinton; and two sisters, Norman Garten and Lottie Parker, both of Talcott.

Service will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Ernest “Jim” Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral parlors.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Ray Bell

Ray Bell, 78, of 329 Union Hall Road, Beckley, passed away from this life to an eternal one on Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, after an eight-month fight with Alzheimer’s.

Born Aug. 25, 1927, at Rhodell, he was the son of the late Rev. Sam Bell and Cora Sizemore Bell.

Mr. Bell was a retired coal miner from Westmoreland Coal Co., having worked in the coal mines for many years. While working in the mines, he suffered many accidents. Ray loved mining and loved farming, and held a passion for growing things. He also had a special love for his horses.

Mr. Bell was a member of Ghent Missionary Baptist Church, and his pastime was reading his Bible and helping those in need.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vercie Cadle Bell, the mother of his children; a son, Steven Bell; brothers, Charlie Bell and Sammy Bell; special loving sister, Laura Lester, and sister, Hazel Lester.

Left to mourn his memory are his wife, Shirley Bennett Bell; a son, Allen Bell and wife, Linda, of Camp Creek; daughter, Ceretha Burdiss and husband, Arthur “Bubby,” of Flat Top; brother, Lawrence Bell and wife, Mary, of Doyleston, Ohio; five sisters, Rose Hatcher of Beckley, Gracie Bolen and Ella Blevins, both of Rhodell, Nellie Thompson and husband, Bruce, of Corinne and Ruby Gration of Chicago, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Wilma Bell of Union, S.C.

Also surviving are the pride of his life, his granddaughters, Keri Ann Burdiss of Belmont, N.C., Andrea Wright and husband, Ken, of Wake Forest, N.C., and Melisa Welch and husband, Michael, of Raleigh, N.C.; and three wonderful great-grandchildren, Madison, Mason and Malinn Welch.

Ray’s extended family are Ernest Cadle, Jim Cadle and wife, Sue, Charlie Cadle and wife, Joan, James Lilly, Bonnie Cadle Pack, Fred Moye and wife, Helen, Dan Moye and wife, Grey, Stanley Moye and wife, Janet, a special sister-in-law, Sidney Carol Moye, his stepsons, Eddie Joe Bennett and wife, Pam, of Chambersburg, Pa., and Eric Wayne Bennett of New Park, Pa.; a stepgranddaughter, Rachel Bennett; a stepgrandson, Jason York; and a host of other relatives he loved with a passion, friends too numerous to mention who had a special place in his heart, and his church family who showed their love for Ray through their prayers visits, and compassion in ways the family will never forget.

Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel, with Pastor Doug Walls, assisted by Ray’s good friend, Russell Ellison, officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be the church family of Ghent Missionary Baptist Church.

Leon Bradford

HARVEY — Leon Bradford, 91, of P.O. Box 154, Glen Jean, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, following a short illness.

Born Dec. 6, 1914, at Harpersville, Ala., he was a son of the late Samuel Bradford and Cornelia Keith Bradford.

Mr. Bradford was a coal miner, surgical orderly at Plateau Medical Center and a custodian at Collins High School. He was a member of Harvey Missionary Baptist Church and the UMWA.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Alice Harvey and Betty Bradford; five grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; two sisters and three brothers, Clyde, Harvey and Lofton Bradford, and Clara Hall and Georgia Robinson.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Alice Booker Bradford of Harvey; his children, Lofton Bradford of Flint, Mich., Benny Bradford of Harvey, the Rev. Gerry Bradford and wife, Eartha, of Mount Hope, Ruby (Odell) Nation of Corunna, N.Y., Catherine Ross of Harvey, Sammie J. Bradford of Flint, Mich., Evangelist Cornelia Marks and husband, Bobby, of Flint, Mich., Debra Gibson and friend, Robert Lucas, of Oak Hill, Evangelist Vickie (Oneal) Ziglar of Flint and Melissa Bradford of Oak Hill; 47 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Harvey Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. William Chapman, Rev. Stanley Blanks and Minister Gerry Bradford officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.

Services entrusted to Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.
