SUNHILL — Nellie Toler departed this life Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 25 days at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, following a short illness.
Born Aug. 17, 1930, in Logan County, she was the daughter of the late William Okey and Vinnie Mae Morgan.
Nellie was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and her dog, “Katie.” She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was dearly loved by her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jo Toler; six brothers, Walter Morgan, John Morgan, James Morgan, Okey Morgan Jr., Phillip Morgan and D.J. Morgan; and five sisters, Nancy Clevenger, Betty Chaffins, Caroline Morgan, Mary Ellen Morgan and Marie Dingess.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, Willie E. Toler; three daughters, Loretta Sue Parsons and her husband, Dallas Gene, of Sun Hill, Willa Rose Thompson and her husband, Freddie, of Sun Hill and Melissa Dawn Cook and her husband, David H. Jr., of Buffalo, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Bridget Mae Morgan, Lora Jean Adkins and Dallas “J.R.” Eugene Parsons; eight great-grandchildren, Morgan Lester, Austin Rambo, Nora Ashley Cook, Bobby Morgan Jr., Destiny LeeAnn Rambo, Joshua David Cook and Savannah Rose Parsons and Denora Burke; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
A celebration of Nellie’s life will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Firg Proffitt and the Rev. Rocky Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Morgan cemetery, Long Branch.
Casketbearers will be grandsons.
The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

DALE CITY, Va. — Judith A. Wills, 67, died at her home in Dale City on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006.
Judy retired from GTE (now Verizon) after 20 years of service. She enjoyed crafting, shopping, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She mostly enjoyed and treasured her time with her grandchildren and close family. She always was very thoughtful and put the needs and comfort of family and friends first.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Yancy.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Sam Tassitino; daughters, Michelle Gulli and Tammy Blevins, both of Stafford, Va.; brother, Phil Yancy of Delaware; sister, Vanessa Bragg of West Virginia; grandchildren, Matthew, Madison, Nicholas and Sierra; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home Chapel, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, Va. Burial will follow in Quantico National cemetery.

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — Alice R. Wooten, 83, formerly of Beckley, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at home with family and friends by her side after a long illness.

Shelby Jean Wooten
Shelby Jean Wooten, 63, of Crab Orchard, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.
Born March 29, 1942, at East Gulf, she was the daughter of the late Wilton Richardson and Bonnie Kamits Richardson.
Mrs. Wooten was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, David Wooten of Crab Orchard; grandchildren, Samuel Dwayne Wooten of Mabscott and Sabrina Dawn Wooten of Mabscott; brother, Harold Richardson of Crab Orchard; sisters, Doris Epperley of Florida, Barbara Wooten of Crab Orchard, Greta MacAlpin of Daniels, Anna Mills of MacArthur and Patsy Ratcliff of Mount Airy, N.C., and fiancé, Joe Rizzi of Beckley.
Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Martin Rupe officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

U.S. Army Sgt. Brian C. Karim, 22, husband of Rachel Lasley Karim, father of 2-year-old Janessa Karim of Nimitz, and son of Vera and Garland Adkins of Talcott, was killed in action in a roadside bombing on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, northwest of Baghdad, Iraq. Brian was a member of Taskforce Baghdad charged with security in Baghdad and surrounding areas.
Brian was born Jan. 27, 1983, in Summers County, and was a 2001 graduate of Summers County High School. He was an avid outdoorsman, and attended the First Baptist Church in Hinton.
Besides his immediate family, he is survived by one brother, Steven Gill of Talcott; one sister, Shannon Gill of Talcott; father- and mother-in-law, Robbie and Susie Lasley of Nimitz; brother-in-law Aaron Lasley of Ft. Sill, Okla.; and sisters-in-law Mandy Seigler of Nimitz and Kelli Gill of Hinton.
Funeral services will he held at 12 noon on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton, with Pastor Gary Adkins officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at the Gill Family cemetery near Hinton.
There will be no visitation.

Betty C. Wright Martin, 76, of Barboursville, formerly of Beckley, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at the home of her daughter.
Born March 17, 1929, in Grandview, she was a daughter of the late James Hazzard and Mamie Goddard Wright.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Keith Martin.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Bob McKinney of Barboursville; two sons and daughter-in-law, David Keith Martin of Nashville, Tenn., and his companion, Judi Sachs, and John Ray and Evelyn Martin of Hurricane; grandchildren, Debra K. Moon and her husband, Mike, Brian C. McKinney, Alison Simpson and her husband, Mark, Charles Martin and Derek Orren; and two great-grandchildren.

FANROCK — Linda Sue Newcomb departed this life Thursday, Dec. 23, 2005, in CAMC Memorial Division in Charleston, at the age of 48 years, two months, and 20 days, following a short illness.
Born Oct. 3, 1957, at Welch, she was the daughter of the late Donald Fite and Claris Johnson Fite of Fanrock.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Sam and Ida Johnson; and maternal grandparents, Jess Fite and Zelma Houch.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 30 years, Vernon “Buckeye” Newcomb of Fanrock; two sons, J.D. Newcomb and his companion Charity Addair and Jason Newcomb, both at home; her mother, Claris Fite of Fanrock; one brother, James Fite and his companion Kathy Lane of Fanrock; three grandchildren, Dillion Lee, Mirassia Dawn and Alixis Daisey, all of Fanrock; father-in-law, John Newcomb and his wife Glenda of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers-in-law, Bob Cook and his wife Linda of Steeles, and Tony Newcomb and his wife Angie of Mullensville; sisters-in-law, Nancy Lambert of Brenton, Sharon Morgan and her husband Harley of Brenton, Anna Maria Gomez of Wisconsin, and Michelle Ryman and her husband Scott of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of family and friends.

Josh Vest
Josh Vest, 82, of Shady Spring, with his family by his side, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a short illness.
Born at Jumping Branch, on Feb. 26, 1923, he was the son of the late Joe and Izola Furrow Vest.
Mr. Vest was a retired coal miner and was of the Baptist faith. He finished his career with Westmoreland Coal Co., at the Riffe’s Branch Division as an electrician. Josh served his country during World War II.
He was a simple man who lived a simple life while working to improve the lives of his family. Josh was a jack-of-all-trades, and the community handyman. He never turned away a person needing a helping hand. His passion of fabricating homemade inventions in his workshop never ceased, even after losing his eyesight.
Josh was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by brothers Earl, Andy, Omer, Jack, and Hubert Kesler Vest, and his sisters Georgia and Mabel Vest, his beloved son-in-law Christie Meadows and his loyal companion and best friend Trixie.
Survivors include his wife Hulda Smith Vest; a son, Howard Vest and wife Karen of Beckley; and daughter Ruth Vest Meadows of Shady Spring. Also grandchildren Christy Ann Meadows Harvey and husband Tommy of Summers County; Amanda Lynn Meadows and James Joshua “J.J.” Meadows of Shady Spring. Surviving stepgrandchildren include Lisa Withrow and husband Keith of Prosperity; Brittany Pachuta of Beckley; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Ellie Withrow of Prosperity, and numerous friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Blizard officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Vest’s memory to the Christie B. Meadows Memorial Scholarship, in care of Shady Spring High School, 300 Hinton Road, Shady Spring, WV 25918.
