Roland Dellwood ‘Cowboy’ Adkins

HINTON — Roland Dellwood “Cowboy” Adkins, 74, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson. Burial in the Fletcher Addition of the Alderson cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements by Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson.

Stanley Carl Belcher

Stanley Carl Belcher, 53, of Fairdale, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2005.

Born Nov. 15, 1952, at Beckley, he was the son of the late Carl Belcher and the late Agnes Marie Acord Belcher.

Stanley was a coal miner, and a field representative for District No. 17, lead organizer for the International UMWA Union, he was on the safety committee, and president of the Local Union No. 781. Stanley was an avid union supporter.

He was a one-time professional boxer.

Stanley loved his family very much, and was preceded in death by his parents. He was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Stanley Carl Belcher II; and beloved daughter, Sandra Kay Belcher.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 31 years, Phyllis Belcher of Fairdale; loving daughter, Stephanie Lambert and husband, Jayson, of Fairdale; loving grandchildren, Casey Lambert and Nina Lambert; a sister, Kay Sanders and husband, Raymond, of Glen Fork; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Dr., Beckley with the Rev. Gary Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family 12 noon until time of the service today at the funeral home.

Don D. Allmon

BOSWELL, Pa. — Don D. Allmon, 79, of Saylor School Road, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at Laurel Crest, Ebensburg, Pa.

Born Dec. 23, 1926, in West Virginia, he was the son of Flaves and Minnie (Gillian) Allmon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Flaves and Robert J. “Bobby Joe” on Nov. 11, 2006.

Survivors include his wife, the former Janet Zuccolotto, to whom he was married for 37 years; daughters, Debra Brothers of Ohio and Tarseese, wife of Bob Netterman, of Ohio; stepchildren, William Stayrook and friend, Tina, of Hollsopple, Pa., Karen L., wife of Charles Koontz, of Boswell, Allen and wife, Kim Stayrook, of Johnstown, Pa., Gary and wife Tina Stayrook, of Hollsopple, Trudy, wife of Joe Piskor, of Tennessee and Deborah, wife of David Leventry, of Listie, Pa.; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was a brother of Vivian Linkous of West Virginia, Leland and wife, Deloris Allmon, of Ohio, Theron and wife, Brenda Allmon, of West Virginia, Gary and wife, Donna Allmon, and Larry and wife, Lisa, all of North Carolina, Malnettia Edwards of West Virginia and Fred, wife of Vernie Woods, of Tennessee.

Mr. Allmon was retired from Turjan Construction Co. in Johnstown, Pa. He was a member of Benscreek Lutheran Church, life member of VFW Post 154, Somerset, Pa., and life member of Ferndale Sportmen. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

The family received friends Monday and Tuesday.

Service was 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Benscreek Lutheran Church with the Rev. Larry Hoover officiating. Burial followed in Blough Mennonite cemetery, where graveside service was conducted by Somerset VFW Post 154.

PETERSTOWN — James J. Belcher, 75, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset View cemetery, Bozoo.

Margaret Boothe

NEW RICHMOND — Margaret Boothe, 61, of New Richmond, departed this life Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following a short illness.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Willie J. Brown

Willie J. Brown, 83, of 312 Harper Heights Road, Beckley, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born Nov. 24, 1922, in Savannah, Ga., he was the son of the late Eddie Collins and Mary Etta Collins.

Mr. Brown worked at Amtrax with 34 years of service. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church at Harper Heights and usher board member, also serving as a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria R. Brown, on Nov. 14, 1997.

Survivors include two sons, Leroy Brown of New York and Willie James Brown Jr. of Silver Spring, Md.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a dear friend, Emma Burks; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Shiloh Baptist Church, 316 Harper Heights Road, Beckley, with the Rev. Thomas Murray and the Rev. Thomas V. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service Friday at the church.

Arrangements entrusted to Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.

Timothy Canterbury

OAK HILL — Timothy Canterbury, 46, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of arrangements.

Hanzel C. ‘Hans’ Graham

HAMPTON, Va. — Hanzel C. “Hans” Graham, lieutenant colonel, U.S. Army (retired), 75, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006.

Col. Graham was born at Basin to the late Dea and Mary Lambert Graham.

He had resided in Hampton since 1972. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army for 26 years, including the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, and was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member and past chairman of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association. After military retirement he was a life insurance agent with Lincoln National until becoming a licensed real estate agent in 1982. Hans sold real estate with L&M Realty and Abbitt Realty, retiring from that business in 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Graham; three sons, Gary Graham of Hampton, Robert Graham of Anchorage, Alaska, and Scott Graham of Hampton; two grandsons, Jason Graham of Hampton and Colt Graham of Anchorage; three granddaughters, Christina Graham of Coeburn, Va., and Amber and Chelsea Graham of Hampton; a brother, Freeman Graham, and three sisters, Geraldine Daniel, Lena Graham and Jacqueline Daugherty, all of West Virginia; and his special friend, Clarence Hunter.

A service to celebrate his life, which consisted of a fly-over, was 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Parklawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Entombment followed.

The family received friends Monday at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army Women and Children’s Shelter, P.O. Box 7529, Hampton, Va. 23666.

Cheryl ‘Darlene’ Greene Peck

Cheryl “Darlene” Greene was born June 9, 1955, in Beckley.

She was the 10th child born to the late Brownie Beatrice Lewis Greene and Morris Greene of Stanaford.

Darlene was raised in Stanaford. She attended New Era Baptist church for all of her early years and then in 1984 joined First Baptist Church, North Beckley, to be near her husband, Ronald. She was an active member of both the church and the Sunday school. She loved working on and preparing all of the programs and bulletins for the many functions held at the church.

Darlene was united in marriage to Ronald Edward Peck Sr. in May 1973. They had happy years together and she always reminded Ronald that he was her “best friend.” To this union they had one wonderful, devoted and much beloved son, Ronald Jr. Ronald Jr. married Erica Swafford in March 1996 and from this union came Darlene’s two beloved grandchildren, Jessica and Cameron. No grandmother could love two children any more than Darlene loved these two. Anyone who knew Darlene knew the great love and pride that she had in her husband and family. Her life and conversations were always filled with the love she had for Jessica and Cameron, Ron Sr., Erica and Ron Jr. She surrounded herself and her home with their pictures and was always happy to share the many precious memories of the times that they had together.

Darlene was employed for 27-plus years by American Electric Power. She worked for many years in Beckley and then spent the later years of her career commuting to Bluefield in the position of meter reading supervisor. She made this commute rain or shine till her health forced her to stay home in August 2004.

She was preceded in death by brothers Morris Greene Jr. and William Greene, and sisters Lois Legrand and Dorothy Tyler.

In addition to her loving husband, Ronald, son, Ron Jr. (Erica), and her grandchildren, Jessica and Cameron, she is survived by two brothers, Melvin (Hazel) Greene of Stanaford and James Greene of Beckley; three sisters, Lillian Banks of Stanaford, Maxine Greene of New York and Mary Beasley of New York; special niece, Debra Moore; and a host of other nieces and nephews. Darlene leaves behind a host of family and close friends to cherish her memory. She was loved by many and will be sadly missed.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, 110 Ellis St., North Beckley, with the Rev. James H. Cox officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service at the church.

Walter ‘Herkey’ Edd Stark Sr.

OAK HILL — Walter “Herkey” Edd Stark Sr., 70, of Fayette County, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born Feb. 25, 1936, at Minden, he was the son of the late Willard Earl and Nora Lee Treadway Stark.

Mr. Stark was a retired carpenter. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard Neal Stark and Raymond Clifford Stark; six sisters, Brenda Joyce Patrick, Hilda Lee Light, Majelle Grablick, Irene Elizabeth Preston, Rosella Oatridge and Bernice Louise Stark; and an adopted son, Anthony Stark.

Survivors include a son; three daughters; a brother, James Richard Stark of Evansville, Ind.; a sister, Aretta Church of Indianapolis, Ind.; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by friends, Iris Lee Fortner of Oak Hill, and Mike Johnson and Jess and Georgia Kelly, all of Gatewood.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Jessie Parker officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Janet Louise Anderson

HILLDALE — Janet Louise Anderson, 77, died at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at Summers County ARH in Hinton following a short illness.

Born June 20, 1929, at Sandstone, she was the daughter of the late Ennis L. and Edith M. Cantrell Knighton.

Mrs. Anderson was a former employee of Virginia Electric Power Co. in Hinton. She was a graduate of Sandstone High School and had lived most of her life in Summers County. She was a member of Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church at Hilldale.

She was preceded in death by a son, Melvin D. Anderson, and a brother, Dan Knighton.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, James Melvin Anderson; a son, Michael L. Anderson of Coal City; a daughter, Terry L. Stover and husband, Kenneth, of Cool Ridge; a brother, Tom Knighton of Dover, Ohio; two sisters, Pat Evans and husband, Kermit, of Sutton and Sue Baker of Doylestown, Ohio; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Ken Stockwell and Evangelist Aaron Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Greenbrier Burial Park, Hinton.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mae Bagaskey

GATEWOOD — Mae Maglene Bagaskey, 81, of Gatewood, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
