Joseph Brinkley Proctor

LEWISBURG — Joseph Brinkley Proctor, 71, of Lewisburg, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.

Born April 30, 1934, at Ronceverte, he was the son of the late Alfred and Eva Brinkley Proctor.

Mr. Proctor retired after 20 years of service from the United States Air Force, having spent one year in Greenland and Thailand. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Ronceverte where he held various positions, including chairman of the trustees.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doreen Proctor; a brother, Paul Proctor; and two sisters, Eva L. Daniels and Beulah Mae Breckenridge.

Survivors include a brother, Vernell Proctor and wife, Delores, of Wilmington, Del.; many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Main Street United Methodist Church, Ronceverte, with the Rev. Emory Hanna and the Rev. Carl Renick officiating. Burial will follow at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Lewisburg.

Visitation will be one hour before service Friday at the church.

Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Rosina T. Shuck

FAYETTEVILLE — Rosina T. Shuck, 89, of Fayetteville, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, in a Salem, Va., nursing care facility following a long illness.

Born Dec. 21, 1916, in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late George Theil and Rosina B. Theil.

Mrs. Shuck was a member of Fayetteville United Methodist Church and was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Rosina Theil,; and her husband, Haven Ray Shuck, on Dec. 3, 1980.

Survivors include her two sons, Haven R. Shuck Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Roanoke, Va., and Richard V. Shuck and his wife, Pamella, of Germany; three grandsons, John Shuck and his wife, Judy, of Annandale, Va., Gavin Shuck and his wife, Karin of Roanoke and Andrew Shuck of Hobe Sound, Fla., and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, with the Rev. David A. Stackpole officiating.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of arrangements.

Bernard P. ‘Buntin’ Shumate

MCGRAWS — Bernard P. “Buntin” Shumate, 79, of McGraws, entered into a new life Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston after a long illness.

Born Aug. 5, 1926, at McGraws (Tipple), he was a son of the late Ernest Bernard Basham and Thelma Shumate.

Twin daughters Marlene and Darlene Shumate, a brother, Harold Shumate, and a sister, Audrey Shumate, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Shumate served his country in the Army during World War II and was a lifelong member of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Ruby Katherine Farmer Shumate; four daughters, Robin Shumate and Phyllis Dreama Lester of Nitro, Susan Allen and husband, Dennis, of McGraws and Tammy Miller and husband, Kenneth, of Nitro; two sons, Timothy Shumate of McGraws and Jeffery Shumate of Bluefield; 10 grandchildren, Shannon and Shaun Lester, Amy Shumate, Brittany and Brianna Shumate, Matthew, Rachel and Joshua Allen, and Seth and Daniel Miller; a great-grandchild, Desiree Shumate; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with Pastor Bill Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove cemetery, Ravencliff.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family is being served by Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco.

Rose Marie Teel

OAK HILL — Rose Marie Teel, 70, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at Fayette Continuous Care Center in Fayetteville after a long battle with sugar diabetes.

Born Dec. 23, 1935, at Oak Hill, she was the youngest daughter of the late Paul Edward and Mildred Irene Cameron Teel.

Miss Teel was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Pete Teel of Oak Hill.

Survivors include two sisters, Pauline Nester and husband, Randall, of Connersville, Ind., and Margaret Nichols and husband, Jim, of Glen Allen, Va.; three nephews, Leslie Nester of Eaton, Ohio, George Alan Nester of Connersville and Ronnie Nichols of Richmond, Va.; and a great-nephew and five great-nieces whom she adored and enjoyed sharing what she had.

She is also survived by an aunt, Ruby Cameron Hemlett of Richmond, and an uncle, Junior Punk Cameron of Cape Canaveral, Fla.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with her beloved nephew, the Rev. George Nester, officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Danny Ray Whitlow

OAK HILL — Danny Ray Whitlow, 53, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following a short illness.

Born July 9, 1952, at Pax, he was the son of Mildred Mullens Whitlow of Oak Hill and the late Claude Arnold Whitlow.

He was a clerk for Wal-Mart of Oak Hill and a former 18-year employee of the White Oak Public Service District.

Danny was a coach for the Joe Aiello Memorial Basketball League. He was a family man who always put everyone first. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Jeanette “Sissy” Williams Whitlow; a son, Danny Whitlow and wife, Terry, of Oak Hill; two daughters, Jennifer Williams and companion, Patrick Hypes, of Mount Hope and Amanda Whitlow of Oak Hill; two brothers, Arnold Whitlow and wife, Kay, of Lansing and James Whitlow and wife, Cindy, of Oak Hill; 10 sisters, Audrey Painter and husband, Malvin, of Pax, Donna Silman and husband, Robert, of Glasgow, Mona Cook and husband, Dencil, of Harvey, Janice Brown and husband, Frank, of Scarbro, Tonia Arthur and husband, James, of Lanark, Lois Norris and husband, Charles, of Scarbro, Cynthia Lambert and husband, Robert, of Scarbro, Janet McClintock and husband, Gene, of Greensboro, N.C., Bertha Blankenship and husband, Rick, of Pax and Martha Whitlow of New Haven; eight grandchildren, Kayln, Rae Rae “Patra,” Jessica, James, Sidney, Rayelle “Boo,” John and Daniel; mother-in-law, Ruth Williams of Mount Hope; father-in-law, Rayand Barbara of Wurtland, Ky., and a large extended family.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope. Burial will follow in Pax Community cemetery.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Andrew J. Williams

It is with deep sorrow that the family advises of the passing of “Uncle Jack” Andrew Jackson Williams, 85, of Lake Placid, Fla. He was born Dec. 1, 1920, at Princeton to the late John G.C. and Gertrude Williams.

He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Jess W., R. Daymon and Herman R.; and his sister, Dixie W. McCary. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Edward Guy “Tony” Graves Jr. of Lake Placid.

He lived with his nephew, Bob Graves, and Bob’s wife, Debbie, on Lake June, where he enjoyed the lake for the past eight years and was known to all as “Uncle Jack.”

He was a captain in the U.S. Air Force, piloted a B-17 in World War II, was a former POW and later went on to retire from the FAA as an air traffic control specialist.

After retiring from Miami and moving to Lake Placid in the late 1970s, he split his time enjoying the Zenith Mountains of West Virginia and the friendly town of Lake Placid.

Uncle Jack embraced both the challenges and rewards of life and celebrated the beauty of God’s world. He especially loved flying and the opportunity it offered to touch the sky to be at one with infinity and with God. Uncle Jack was a brilliant man who also possessed the unique ability to find humor in every aspect of life. He will be deeply missed.

God bless you, Uncle Jack, as He welcomes you home at this most beautiful time of year.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. David Trump officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the Oak Hill VFW.

Delana J. ‘Dee’ Williams

PAX — Delana J. “Dee” Williams, 56, of Pax, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley.

Lena M. Wilson

HINTON — Lena Margaret Wilson, 90 of The Seasons, Lewisburg, formerly of Hinton, died Sunday Dec. 25, 2005, at The Seasons following a long illness.

Born May 9, 1915, in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Effie Jane Allen Vass.

Ms. Wilson was a homemaker and was a member of First Baptist Church in Hinton. She had been a resident of Lewisburg for the past five years.

Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Russell P. Wilson, on Oct. 26, 2000; a son, Richard “Pete” Wilson;two sisters, Nell Harris and Gladys Utz; and two brothers, Rob and Ralph Vass

Survivors include two sons, Robert Wilson and wife, Deloris, of Washington, W.Va., and Gary Wilson and wife, Thelma, of Lewisburg; two daughters, Jane Gold and husband, Fred, of Travelers Rest, S.C., and Beverly Campbell and husband, Jim, of Parkersburg; a brother, Fred Vass and wife, Lil, of Hinton; two sisters, Mae Caldwell of Ravenswood and Mildred Saul of Belle; a daughter-in-law, Maria Wilson of the Philippines; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

The family would also like to thank the staff of The Seasons in Lewisburg for all they have done in caring for Lena.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Roy Lee Honaker Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Burial Park, Hinton.

Friends called 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Evangeline Marilyn McPherson Young

HINTON — Evangeline Marilyn McPherson Young passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, after a long illness at the age of 72.

She was born March 25, 1933, in Saint Francis, Maine, but had been a resident of Hinton since 1976.

She is survived by her husband, Ople H. “Sarge” Young; eight children, son James R. Young and his wife, Pam, of Hinton, daughter Lisbet R. Huffman and her husband, Greg, of Jumping Branch, son Opie H. Young and his wife, Tabitha, of Lindside, daughter Robin L. Dunn and her husband, John, of Jumping Branch, daughter Cally A. Bradshaw and her husband, Billy, of Marietta, Ga., son Al Winslow of St. Petersburg, Fla., daughter Layne M. Chenier of St. Petersburg and daughter Margo E. Winslow of Victorville, Calif. She also had 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Special mention to grandsons, Justin M. Young of Hinton and Austin Dunn of Jumping Branch, and granddaughter, Kara Via of Lindside. She is also survived by her sisters, Freda Thibodeau Zue Pelletier, Phillis Jandreau and Esther Harvey, all of Maine, Jean Rush of Michigan, Betty Ristan of Virginia, Peggy Jeand-Heur of California and Mary Veltri of Clarksburg; and brothers, Lloyd, Eldon and Ewan McPherson, all of Maine.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton, with the Rev. Arthur Bufogle and the Rev. Kevin Culligan, OCD, officiating.

Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral parlors.

Wanda Marie Cook

Wanda Marie Cook of Beckley, formerly of Matheny, departed this life Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, in a Beckley hospital, at the age of 49 years, 5 months and 11 days, following a short illness.

Born July 22, 1956, in Grundy, Va., she was the daughter of the late Burton and Doris Johnston Stacey.

Wanda was a homemaker, enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time at Watoga State Park.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Paul Cook of Beckley; a daughter, Heather Jeanne Belcher and her husband, Danny, of Clear Fork; paternal grandmother, Hazel Johnston of Premier; a sister, Lora Leigh Stacey of Oceana; a granddaughter, Danielle Brook Belcher of Clear Fork; a special brother-in-law, Phillip Cook and his wife, Billy, of Matheny; several aunts, uncles, cousins; and a host of friends.

At Wanda’s request, there will be no funeral service.

The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home in Oceana, and also 11 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny.
