VICTOR — Brent Crist, 60, of Horseshoe Road, passed away at his residence, Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, following a short illness.
Brent was born Feb. 11, 1945, at Gauley Bridge, the son of the late Hamen and Virginia Lee Crist. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Allen and Wendell.
Mr. Crist was a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Horseshoe Road, Victor, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired construction worker.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Bennett Crist of Victor; a daughter, Barbara Edwards and her husband, Danny, of Alabama; four sons, Lee of Beckley, Tim and his wife, Jo Jo, of Hampton, Va., Greg of Victor, Jason and his wife, Gina, of Hico; a sister, Francis Adkins of Greenville, S.C.; two brothers, Walt Crist of Organhouse, Calif., and Mike Crist of Tampa, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at the Liberty Baptist Church, with Danny Legg officiating. Burial will follow in the Beech Run cemetery at Lucas Road, Ramsey.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

Kathy Gwen Payne Hahn
KANSAS CITY, MO — Kathy Gwen Payne Hahn, 50, of Kansas City, MO, formerly of Dothan, passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, KS, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 21, 1955, at Oak Hill, Kathy was the daughter of Woodrow and Mary Lou (Payne) Payne of Dothan.
Kathy was a homemaker. She was also a graduate of Collins High School, Oak Hill, in the class of 1973. She was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Dr. James K. Hahn; one son, Zachary Hahn; one daughter, Jessica Hahn, both of Kansas City, MO; one sister, Deanna (Gerald) Lucas of Oak Hill; and one brother, Charlie (Becky) Payne of Mossy.
Kathy was a vibrant person whose smile touched many lives. She was caring and compassionate and always put others needs before her own. Kathy will be missed by all who knew her.
Special thanks to Mary Washington for her inspiration throughout Kathy’s illness. Also, to the whole 42nd unit at the Kansas University Medical Center.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Hillard “Lum” Toney officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Bennie Ray Hatfield
COAL MOUNTAIN — Bennie Ray Hatfield, 76, of Coal Mountain, passed away at Raleigh General Hospital, following a short illness.
Born Dec. 8, 1929, at Coal Mountain, he was the son of the late Epp and Mary Hatfield.
Mr. Hatfield was a member of the UMWA and a retired Tipple Foreman for Island Creek Coal Company. He worked a total of 46 years in the mining industry. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Mary Ellen Dalton Hatfield; a brother, Epp Hatfield, Jr. and wife, Gladyce; and an infant brother.
He is survived by his two daughters, Teresa Hatfield and husband, Brendon Hatfield, of Beckley and Connie Walls and husband, Timmy Walls, of Coal Mountain; four grandchildren, Craig Hatfield and wife, Molly, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Todd Hatfield and wife, Kelli, of Beckley, Shannon Walls and fiance’, Brian Drown, of Huntington, and Lindsey Walls and fiance’, Ryan Spalding, of Princeton; two great-grandchildren, Reece and Brooke Hatfield of Cincinnati, Ohio; and one sister-in-law, Sue Lester and husband, Roger, of Alderson.
Bennie will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends who love him very much.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Big Cub Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Coal Mountain, with the Rev. Glenn Hatfield and Randall Staton officiating. Burial will follow at the Epp Hatfield cemetery in Coal Mountain.

SENECAVILLE, Ohio — Mary Ellen Adkins Pate, 67, formerly of Beckwith, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at her home in Senecaville, Ohio, following a long illness.
Born Aug. 12, 1938, at Beckwith, she was the daughter of the late March Adkins and Sally Holly Miller.
Mrs. Pate was a member of the Cotton Hill Missionary Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Phyllis Pate; and a sister, Nina Shockey.
Survivors include her husband, Robert E. Pate of Senecaville, Ohio; four daughters, Vicky Ondrejovich and Debra Arnold, both of Columbia Station, Ohio, Teresa McGuire of LaGrange, Ohio, and Sheila Priddy of Grafton, Ohio; a son, Robert E. Pate Jr. and wife, Loretta, of Avon Lake, Ohio; a sister, Betty Johnson of Beaver; a half brother, Russell Miller; four half sisters, Alice Comer, Kathy Wilson, Joanne Quick and Janet Granc; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Raymond Philip “Jim” Stover, 69, of Decatur, Tenn., formerly of Artie, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2005.
Born Nov. 5, 1936, at Artie, he was the son of the late Eldie and Carmel Williams Stover.
Mr. Stover was a career military man, retiring from the U.S. Air Force. He was of the Protestant faith, was an avid fisherman and also loved ginsenging and playing the guitar.
In addition to his parents; a brother, Alfred “Jack” Stover and a sister, Jean Dailey, preceded Mr. Stover in death.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lorene Pace Stover; two daughters, Paige Gomez and husband, Michael, of Chicago, Ill., and Jana Stover and husband, Shawn Ericson, of Knoxville, Tenn.; four sons, Larry Stover and wife, Janna, of Opelika, Ala., Randall Woody and wife, Vickie, of Big Timber, Mont., Derek Woody of Decatur, Tenn., and Erin Woody and wife, Denece, of Campbell Hall, N.Y.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren; two sisters, Audrey Maynor and Cathy Crafton, and four brothers, Jon, Joe, Bill and Tim Stover and his canine best friend, T.J. Stover.

Harlow Warren Denny
RAINELLE — Harlow Warren Denny, 89, formerly of Huntington, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005.
He was born Feb. 10, 1916 in Cabell County, a son of the late Homer M. Denney and Lora M. Foster Denney.
Mr. Denny was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet. He retired from West Virginia Electric Supply in 1981.
He was preceded in death by his wife Freda Mae Runyan Denny and his brother Donald T. Denney.
Survivors include one son Allen R. Denny and wife Nancy of Rainelle. Also, three grandchildren Christopher Denny, Timothy Denny and Sarah E. Denny Allen; five great-grandchildren Duncan Denny, Logan Denny, Matthew Denny, Caleb Denny, and Ginger Allen.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Woodmere Memorial Gardens in the Abbey Remembrance Chapel in Huntington, conducted by Pastor James Jobe of Hebron Baptist Church.

Vivian Harper
On Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, Vivian Harper went to see her Lord and Saviour in a Charleston hospital following a short illness. She was in her 82nd year.
Born Vivian Ilus Bullock on Aug. 8, 1923, in Duff, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late John and Emma Davis Bullock.
Vivian spent her childhood in Tennessee; she and her late husband, James, settled in Baltimore, Md., where she resided for 34 years. While in Maryland she worked for Glen L. Martin Industries retiring from Westinghouse with 20 years of service. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Baltimore. Vivian came to Beckley in 1984 settling on Oscar Avenue. Working as a caregiver for the elderly, Vivian was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God on Sunset Avenue. In her leisure time she enjoyed working in her flowers, gardening, making dolls and bears and sewing in general. She was a much loved mother and a precious Nanny to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The last survivor of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Westlake Harper, in September of 1993; brothers, Fred, Everett, and Charlie; and a sister, Ethel.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin Harper and his wife, Patty, of Beckley and Wesley Leon Harper of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Carol, Steven, and Donna Harper, Michael Becker, Sharon Harper and Susan Crews; four great-grandchildren, Madison and Helen Green and Joshua and Seth Crews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. John Jordan officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of the services.
