Roger Wayne Strader, 32, of Route One, Crawford, died October 6, 2000, at 5 a.m., at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born August 24, 1968, at Buckhannon, the son of the late Merl Junior Strader and Mrs. Ginger Kay Wilson Strader, who survives at Frenchton.
His wife, the former Joy Michelle Heath, whom he married May 11, 1991, survives.
Also surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Charlene Marie and Jimmie Eugene Page of Buckhannon; one niece, Saphire Kay Page of Buckhannon; his grandmothers, Mabel G. Strader of Cherry Fork and Ada G. Wilson of Frenchton; several aunts and uncles.
Mr. Strader was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School (Class of 1986) and Tri-County Trade School. He was employed by Bill Kelley Chevrolet.
A funeral service was held Sunday, October 8, at 2 p.m., at Heaston United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Jessie officiating. Burial followed in the Heaston cemetery. Robert M. Vincent Funeral Home of French Creek was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Virgil R. Bell
Virgil R. Bell, 84, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, October 7, 2000, at City Hospital.
He was born November 1, 1915, at Kincheloe, a son of the late R. Guy and Etta Brown Bell.
His wife of 58 years, Olive Smith Bell, survives.
Also surviving are one son, Richard "Rick" Bell of Martinsburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jonathan Brown of Martinsburg; one brother, Eugene Bell of Fairmont; three sisters, Agnes Griffin and Wanda Life, both of Columbus, Ohio, and June Hay of Sebring, Fla.; a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Bell.
Mr. Bell was retired from E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Company with 25 years of service. He was a member of Tuscarora Presbyterian Church; a veteran of the U.S. Army and a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal; and a member of Berkeley Post 14 American Legion, the National Rifle Association, and the DuPont Retirees' Association. He was a 1935 graduate of Unidis High School in West Milford.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, October 10, at 2:30 p.m., at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg, with Rev. Richard Forbes and Rev. James R. Jackson officiating. Interment followed in the Rosedale cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions in Mr. Bell's name be made to the American Cancer Society, Mid-Atlantic Division Inc., PO Box 6907, Charleston, WV 25334-9070, or the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.
Charles "PJ" Henline
Charles E. "PJ" Henline, 30, of Route One, Salem, died at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2000, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born February 5, 1970, at Weston, a son of Joyce Ann Church Henline, who survives at Bristol, and the late Denver Owen Henline Jr.
His wife, the former Jennifer Underwood, whom he married June 15, 1991, survives.
Also surviving are one son, Charles E. "CJ" Henline, at home; two daughters, Dora A. Brook Henline and Christina Ann Henline, both at home; two brothers, Daniel L. Henline of Salem and Denver O. Henline III of Mt. Clare; one sister, Tonya Kenney of Wallace; his paternal grandmother, Gladys Hitt Henline of Weston; and his maternal grandmother, Helen Church of Weston.
Mr. Henline was a Baptist. He was employed at Summit Tower Services as a foreman in tower construction. He was a graduate of Liberty High School, Class of 1990, and enjoyed motorcycles, boating, and camping.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, October 10, at 10 a.m., at Boyle Funeral Home, with Rev. John Hayes officiating. Interment followed in the Orlando cemetery. It is requested that memorial donations in Mr. Henline's memory be made to the family for a college builder fund.
Albert Ray Paugh
Albert Ray Paugh, 74, of Route One, Jane Lew, Westfield community, died at 1:15 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2000, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, following a brief illness.
He was born October 7, 1926, at Valley Chapel, a son of the late Charles S. and Edna Norris Paugh.
His wife, the former Betty Skinner, whom he married December 25, 1955, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Gregory Bodkin of Jane Lew and Sherri and Kenneth Romans of Weston; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Teri Paugh of Rock Hill, S.C., and Kevin and Nila Paugh of Jane Lew; three grandchildren, Mike and Eric Romans and Aaron McGraw; and one brother, Gene Paugh of Weston.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Quinton Bodkins and Lincoln McGraw.
Mr. Paugh was retired from the West Virginia Department of Agriculture with 26 years of service as a cattle inspector. He was a member of Valley Chapel United Methodist Church and attended McCann's Run United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Lightburn IOOF Lodge 286.
A funeral service was held Monday, October 9, at 11 a.m., at Boyle Funeral Home, with Rev. Conrad Tenney and Rev. Jeff Zickefoose officiating. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Odd Fellows Lodge 286 held a memorial service at 7 p.m. Sunday, October 8, at the funeral home.
Betty Rhue Dye
Betty Rhue McClain Dye, 69, of Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation of Glenville, formerly of Horner, died at 4:35 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2000, at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
She was born April 10, 1931, at Brown, a daughter of the late Jesse R. and Katherine M. Wright McClain.
Her husband, William O. Dye, whom she married July 29, 1948, preceded her in death May 16, 1991.
Surviving are one daughter, Darlene Hardman of Horner; one granddaughter, Mrs. Michael (Kimberly) Herron of Clayton, N.C.; one brother, Destin R. McClain of Mullica, N.J.; and her cat, Molly Bee.
She was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary Lou McClain, and another sister, Yvonne Marie Roller.
Mrs. Dye was a homemaker and a Baptist.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 14, at Boyle Funeral Home, with interment scheduled to follow at a later date in Sunset Memorial Park at Clarksburg.
Nellie Lee White
Nellie Lee White, 85, of Grafton, formerly of Flemington, died Wednesday, October 4, 2000, at Grafton City Hospital in Grafton.
She was born July 13, 1915, at Sutton, a daughter of the late Sampson and Mary Jane Evans Friend.
Her first husband, Leander Crowe, preceded her in death November 10, 1964. Her second husband, Henry Clay White, preceded her in death May 19, 1994.
Surviving are four sons and three daughters-in-law, Donald and Brenda Crowe of Grafton, Wayne and Frances Crowe of Bridgeport, Richard D. and Nancy Franks of Hutchinson, Pa., and Donald White of Weston; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one sister, Ollie Hines; and four brothers, Howard, Frank, Spurgeon and French Friend.
Mrs. White was a homemaker. She had lived in the Flemington and Grafton communities for most of her life.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 7, at Carnegie Funeral Home in Flemington. Interment followed in the IOOF cemetery at Flemington.
Katheryn Marsh
Katheryn Marsh, 89, of Baltimore, Md., died Friday, September 22, 2000, at Baltimore, after a long illness.
She was the widow of Paul William Marsh, who grew up in Weston and attended St. Patrick School. After being orphaned, Mr. Marsh was raised by his aunt and her husband, the late Bridget "Biddie" (Greene) and E.H. Lang, in Baltimore, while his brother and sister were raised by another aunt and her husband, Margaret Ellen (Greene) and Michael Hennessey, in White Sulphur Springs.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were a daughter, Virginia Elizabeth Jewer; a sister-in-law, Mary Agnes Marsh Williams; a brother-in-law, Charles Raymond Marsh; and her father and mother-in-law, Clarence Raymond and Winiferd Greene Marsh.
Surviving are two grandchildren, Michael Jewer of Litiz, Pa., and Elizabeth Jewer of Baltimore, Md.; three nephews, Charles Michael of Lewisburg, Dr. John Alexander Williams of Appalachian State University, Boone, N.C., and William Lee Williams of Olympia, Wash.; and several cousins by marriage in the Weston area.
A funeral service was conducted September 26 at the Church of the Messiah, with burial in Woodlawn cemetery in Baltimore, Md.
Lori Renee Petre
Lori Renee Petre, 34, of Route Two, Weston, died Monday, October 2, 2000, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born January 18, 1966, at Baltimore, Md., daughter of the late Roger Allen Petre and Janice Lee Stephens Parker.
She is survived by Sheila Petre, Allen Petre, Heather Petre, Pamela Petre, Russell Petre, Robert Parker Jr., Fawn Hitt, Robert A. Parker Sr., and several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of I.A.T.S.E. Local 578; a life member of the North America Hunters and the National Rifle Association; and a graduate of Lewis County High School.
A private service for family only was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 5, with Rev. Roy W. Jones officiating. Morris Funeral Home of Jane Lew was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Glenna Lee Caynor
Glenna Lee Caynor, 65, of New Lexington, Ohio, formerly of Clarksburg, died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at SunBridge Care Center in New Lexington, following a long illness.
She was born January 28, 1935, at Two Lick, a daughter of the late Art and Roxie Curry Caynor.
Surviving are one sister, Freda McDonald of Jane Lew; one nephew, Bill McDonald of Jane Lew; five nieces, Agnes Coffindaffer of Jane Lew, Elaine Jones, Kathy Paxton, and Patty Phillips, all of Alexandria, Va., and Barbara Fox of New Lexington, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Chute and Marie Hannafey.
Ms. Caynor was a retired employee of the Social Security Administration and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of New Lexington.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 8, at Roberts Funeral Home in New Lexington, Ohio, with special nephew Rev. Bryan Jones officiating. Burial followed in the New Lexington cemetery.
Virgie M. Critchfield
Virgie Marlene Critchfield, 90, of Pennsboro, formerly of Doddridge County and Jane Lew, died Wednesday, December 6, 2000, at her daughter's residence in Pennsboro.
She was born October 10, 1910, at Oxford in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Isaac Ellis and Zanna Reed.
Her husband, Franklin Porter Critchfield, preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna Scott of Troutdale, Va., and Dottie Burgess of Pennsboro; three sons, Eugene Critchfield and Mason Critchfield, both of Weston, and Max Critchfield of Spotsylvania, Va.; one sister, Mae Martin of Weirton; 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Jennings and Teddy Critchfield; and three brothers, Curtis, Corley and Orval Reed.
Mrs. Critchfield was a former baker in the Parson-Souders Bakery at Clarksburg. She enjoyed flower gardening and attended the Pennsboro Church of God.
