Frederick W. Groves

Frederick Wayne Groves, 21, of Route One, Crawford, died December 9, 2000, at 7:40 p.m.

He was born February 28, 1979, at Buckhannon, a son of Dennis Wayne Groves of Route One, Crawford, and Cathy Sue Bleigh Malcolm of Buckhannon.

He married the former Christina Cogar April 6, 2000.

Surviving in addition to his parents and his wife are his stepmother, Nancy Bennington Groves of Route One, Crawford; his stepfather, Randall Malcolm of Buckhannon; one brother, Eric Groves of Buckhannon; one sister, Alissa Shipman of Buckhannon; three half sisters, Gloria, Patty and Connie Groves, all of Route One, Crawford; his maternal grandmother, Catherine Bleigh Cutlip of Weston; his paternal stepgrandmother, Clara Bennington of Crawford; his stepgrandfather, David Cutlip of Jane Lew; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

One sister, Amanda Groves, is deceased.

Mr. Groves was a self-employed logger and a Methodist.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, December 12, at 10 a.m., at Ingo Community Church, with Rev. Marvin Riffle officiating. Burial followed in the Ingo Community cemetery. Robert M. Vincent Funeral Home of French Creek was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Bethanne Rose Hamrick

Bethanne Rose Hamrick, 73, of Route Four, Weston, Sunset Acres community, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2000, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, in Charleston, following a brief illness.

She was born February 6, 1927, at Weston, a daughter of the late John Wilton and Emma Pearl Waggoner Chew.

Her husband, Junior Clay Hamrick, whom she married September 27, 1952, survives.

Also surviving are three children, Linda Rose Hamrick O'Hara of Catonsville, Md., Richard Clay Hamrick of Columbia, Md., and Steven Jay Hamrick of Silver Spring, Md.; one son-in-law, Timothy W. O'Hara of Catonsville, Md.; one daughter-in-law, Susan Forkel Hamrick of Columbia, Md.; and two grandchildren, Lauren Grace Hamrick of Columbia, Md., and John Kim O'Hara of Catonsville, Md.

Mrs. Hamrick was employed by Montgomery Ward and later by Standard Oil, where she had several years of service. She was a 1946 graduate of Western High School in Baltimore, Md. She was active with the Lewis County Senior Citizens and in social activities in Sunset Acres. She was a Methodist.
Friends were received Tuesday, December 12, at Boyle Funeral Home. The body was taken to Ambrose Funeral Home in Arbutus, Md., where a funeral service will be held tomorrow, Thursday, December 14, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Amy S. Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Crest Lawn Gardens of Memories in Howard County, Md.

George "Buck" Harris

George "Buck" Harris, 81, of Gilmer County, died Monday, December 4, 2000, at West Virginia University Hospital in Morgantown, following an extended illness.

He was born January 11, 1919, in Gilmer County, a son of the late M.L. "Mart" and Hallie McCullough Harris.

Surviving are two sisters, Mable Ruth Wine of Dusk Camp and Chloe Ellen Allen of Oak Hill; one brother, Alva Harris of Jane Lew; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ocie Marie Shipman; and two brothers, Hoy Harris and Worthy Harris.

Mr. Harris was a farmer and a Methodist.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 7, at Ellyson Mortuary Inc. in Glenville, with Rev. Bill Griffin officiating. Burial followed in the Dusk Camp Methodist cemetery.

Ione Marie Harrison

Ione Marie Rogers Harrison, 74, of Clarksburg, died Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at an area nursing home, following an extended illness.

She was born March 15, 1926, at Sutton, a daughter of the late Nathan and Myrtle Lawson Rogers Frame.

Her husband, Elbert G. "Jack" Harrison Jr., preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Gregory J. and Lois Harrison of Weston; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra LeBrun-Evans and her husband Woody of Alexandria, Va., Darlene S. Beverly and her husband James of Clarksburg, and Debbie A. Cano and her husband Tom of Clarksburg; nine grandchildren, Chad LeBrun, Amie Brewer, Christina Barberio, Jacqueline Harrison, Harrison Beverly, and Elizabeth, Jessica, Joel and Seth Cano; one great-grandchild, Zachery Fleming; one sister, Lena Spadafore of Clarksburg; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard Rogers; one infant brother; and one sister, Virginia Firth.

Mrs. Harrison was a retired factory worker, retiring from Anchor Hocking Glass Factory. She was a member of the Clarksburg Bowling Association and attended New Life Christian Center.
A funeral service was held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, December 7, at Davis Funeral Home in Clarksburg, with Pastor Gordon Shoemaker officiating. Interment followed in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Georgia L. Hart

Georgia L. Hart, 57, of Route One, New Milton, Puerto Rico community, Doddridge County, died Thursday, December 7, 2000, at the family residence.

She was born March 11, 1943, at Jane Lew, a daughter of Doshia Mae Hart Leggett of the Puerto Rico community and the late Reuben S. Leggett.

Her husband, Ancil W. Hart, survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Rachael Hart of Shirley and Rebecca Hart of the Puerto Rico community; one brother, Jerry Leggett of the Puerto Rico community; six sisters, Betty Law, Helen Moore, and Norma Owens, all of West Union, Judy Neely of the Central Station community of West Union, Ella Monroe of Clarksburg, and Rita Taylor of Bridgeport.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Teddy, William and Rolan Leggett; and two sisters, Lotis and Loraine Sue Leggett.
Mrs. Hart attended Puerto Rico Community Church.

Rebecca Ann Roby

Rebecca Ann "Becky" Roby, 24, of Weston, formerly of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at her home.

She was born September 5, 1976, at Buckhannon.

Surviving are her father, Robert Roby of Weston; her mother and stepfather, Sylvia and James Wingfield of Buckhannon; her fiance, Mark Brenwalt Jr. of Elkins; two brothers, Rodney Roby of Buckhannon and Floyd Eddie Roby of Holden; her maternal grandmother, Margaret Hinkle of Buckhannon; two stepbrothers, Phillip Rushing of Port Lavaca, Tex., and Dale Wingfield of Buckhannon; two stepsisters, Phyllis Holley of Winnsboro, La., and Katrina Sandy of Buckhannon; three nieces, Joyce Arbogast, Carla Morrison, and Linda Arbogast; two nephews, Stephen Arbogast and Harold "Bucky" Murphy; one great-nephew, Austin Arbogast; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, William Glenn Sandy; and her paternal grandparents, Floyd and Alta Roby.

Ms. Roby was a Methodist.
A funeral service was held Saturday, December 9, at 2 p.m., at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Waterloo cemetery.

Grethel "Granny" Blake

Grethel Dolores "Granny" Blake, 58, of 147 Mulberry Avenue in Weston, died at 4:16 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2000, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, following an extended illness.

She was born October 21, 1942, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Marsh Jr. and Sadie Juanita Ball Marsh.

Her husband, Robert R. Blake, whom she married January 19, 1963, survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Tina Marie Thomason of Weston; five sons, Daniel Blake, Russell Blake, William Blake, and Charles Blake, all of Weston, and Douglas Blake of Shinnston; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Kay Friend of Wheeling and Pam Cronin of Buckhannon; five brothers, Carl and Kenny Marsh, both of Weston, Gary Marsh of Reno, Nev., Gene Marsh of Los Angeles, Calif., and Francis Marsh of Maryland; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Donald Blake.

Mrs. Blake was a housewife.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, January 2, at 11 a.m., at Floyd Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert A. Heater officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove cemetery in Lewis County.

Ina Boylen

Ina Murphy Boylen, 97, of Straley Addition, Jane Lew, died Friday, December 29, 2000, at 11:32 p.m., at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.

She was born July 23, 1903, in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late John Daniel and Virginia Belle Blake Murphy.

Her husband, Harlan A. Boylen, whom she married September 30, 1921, died June 6, 1983.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Harold K. and Evelyn Boylen of Nederland, Tex.; one daughter, Glenna Murray of Orange City, Fla.; four grandchildren, Janet Rinehart of Harrisonburg, Va., Mike Rinehart of Weston, William Boylen of Spring, Tex., and Nancy Westfall of Jane Lew; 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, seven brothers, and two great-grandchildren are also deceased.

Mrs. Boylen was a member of the Women's Society of First United Methodist Church of Jane Lew, the Lewis County Senior Citizens, and First United Methodist Church. She was the oldest member of Jane Lew Memorial Unit 166, American Legion.
A funeral service will be held today, Wednesday, January 3, at 1 p.m., at Morris Funeral Home in Jane Lew, with Rev. Ronald Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Shirley J. Craig

Shirley J. Craig, 77, of 509 Charles Street in Weston, died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2000, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, following an extended illness.

He was born June 3, 1923, in Gilmer County, a son of the late George and Mary Amos Craig.

His wife, Eleanor Baughman Craig, whom he married April 12, 1967, survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Linda Skinner and Christina Rinehart, both of Jane Lew, Eliza Ruckman of Buffalo Lake, and Laneeta Craig of Weston; three sons, Rusty Craig and David Perrine, both of Jane Lew, and Christopher Craig of Weston; many foster children; nine grandchildren, Austin, Brandon and Breana Craig, Tiffany Rinehart, Sherri Strothers, Crystal Rowan, and Loretta, Bub and Torie Ruckman; two great-grandchildren, Bret and Brittany Strothers; one brother, William Craig of Warfield; two sisters, Jackie Hamrick of Weston and Norma Farrington of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Kathleen Craig, Carol Craig, and Marjorie Harris; and three brothers, Virgil Lee Craig, George Craig, and John Craig.

Mr. Craig was a retired night watchman for Worldwide Equipment of Jane Lew. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Weston Moose Lodge 1376, and the AARP. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, January 2, at 1 p.m., at Floyd Funeral Home, with Pastor Roy Jones officiating. Interment followed in the Weston Masonic cemetery.

Maxine Lydia Gidley

Maxine Lydia Gidley, 80, of 255 Cottage Avenue in Weston, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, following an extended illness.
She was born July 2, 1920, at Weston, a daughter of the late Jesse C. and Gay (Butcher) Butcher.

Her husband, Rev. Clyde H. Gidley, whom she married May 5, 1963, survives.

Also surviving are one stepdaughter, Gypsie Ann Gidley Hufnagle of The Woodlands, Tex.; one stepgrandson, Todd Hufnagle of The Woodlands, Tex.; one stepgranddaughter, Amanda Hufnagle of The Woodlands, Tex.; one sister, Inabel Floyd of Weston; one niece, Jill Cleavenger; three nephews, David Floyd, Michael and Steve Butcher; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dane Butcher and an infant brother, Dare Butcher.

Mrs. Gidley was a housewife and a member of the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ of Buckhannon.
A funeral service was held Saturday, December 30, at 11 a.m., at Floyd Funeral Home, with Rev. Glenn Riggleman officiating. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
