Lauraine B. Doty

Lauraine B. Doty, 74, of Vienna, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Parkersburg.

She was born December 27, 1926, at Rutland, Vermont, a daughter of the late Dwight and Linnie Heath Perry.

Her husband, Raymond Doty, preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons, Clifford Doty of West Rutland, Vermont, Cedric Doty of Danby, Vermont, and Conrad Doty of Vienna; four daughters, Cynthia Lawrence of Twin Flags, N.Y., Christine Farrell of Walker, Charyle Kaufmann of High Point, N.C., and Carol Murphy of Jane Lew; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara and Geraldine Perry.

Mrs. Doty was formerly employed as a nurse's aide at Pine View Continuous Care of Harrisville. She was a member of Boaz Baptist Church in Boaz, Wood County.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at McCullough Rogers Funeral Home in Pennsboro. Interment followed in Mount Harmony Masonic cemetery at Pennsboro.

John D. Eckes

John David Eckes, 51, of Route Two, Roanoke, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at his residence.

He was born May 8, 1949, at Weston, a son of the late John O. and Helen Ruth Powers Eckes.

His wife, the former Barbara Joan Fisher, whom he married July 3, 1981, survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John Thomas (Sherry Joann) McCarty of Crawford and Jessica Denise Eckes of Roanoke; one son, Timothy Brian Eckes of Roanoke; two grandsons, Zachary Thomas McCarty and Joshua Coral McCarty, both of Crawford; one brother, Ray Eckes of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Eckes was owner and operator of D&D Trucking and was formerly employed by Richard O. Harper Trucking in Weston. He was an auctioneer and owned Dave's Auction. He was a very active member of Twin Lakes Southern Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Brotherhood Group, and was active in community services. He served with the United States Army. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at Boyle Funeral Home, with Rev. Chris Conner and Rev. Charles Sisk officiating. Interment followed in the Smith cemetery.

Virginia C. Harris

Virginia C. Harris, 89, a resident of Crestview Manor in Jane Lew, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston.

She was born December 8, 1911, at Belington, a daughter of the late W. Clark and Maude Yoakum Cade.

Both her first husband, Robert S. Hall, and her second husband, Dewey F. Harris, preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, Dr. William R. Hall of Palatine, Ill.; one stepson, Paul E. Harris of Elkins; two sisters, Dorothy Aylestock of Clarksburg and Mary Click of Buckhannon; one grandson, Arthur W. Hall of Palatine, Ill.; two stepgrandsons, Melvin Harris of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Phillip Harris of Elkins; one great-grandson, Alec Hall of Geneva, Ill.; several stepgreat-grandchildren and -great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Harris retired as head cashier at Central National Bank. She was a member of First United Methodist Church; Order of Eastern Star Chapter 18; the Daughters of the American Revolution, Elizabeth Zane Chapter; American Association of Retired Persons; Welcome Club; Teter Extension Homemakers Club; and the United Methodist Women.
A funeral service was held Saturday, March 31, at 2 p.m., at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon, with Rev. Mark Flynn officiating. Burial followed in the Heavner cemetery at Buckhannon. Order of Eastern Star Chapter 18 conducted a memorial service at the funeral home Friday, March 30.

Thelma Jean Kane

Thelma Jean Tenney Kane, 74, of French Creek, died March 26, 2001, at West Virginia University Hospital in Morgantown.

She was born February 20, 1927, at Hemlock, a daughter of the late Samuel McCann Tenney and Flora Currence Tenney.

Her husband, Andrew Paul Kane, preceded her in death November 21, 1996.

Surviving are two stepsons, Andrew Joseph Kane and Francis Richard Kane, both of Hartford, Conn.; one sister, Leona Curry of Newburg; two brothers, Paul Tenney of Point Marion, Pa., and Samuel Tenney of Warren, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Kane worked for Westinghouse in New Jersey for 30 years and was a member of Rock Cave Baptist Church. She enjoyed talking to family and friends on the telephone.
A funeral service was held Thursday, March 29, at 11 a.m., at Rock Cave Baptist Church, with Pastor David Jessie, assisted by Pastor Eugene Helmick, officiating. Robert M. Vincent Funeral Home of French Creek was in charge of funeral services.

Mildred Marie Lang

Mildred Marie Brake Lang, 89, of Route One, Coxs Mills, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, following an extended illness.

She was born November 22, 1911, at Troy in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late A.S. and Rosa Simmons Brake.

Her husband, Clay Lang, whom she married March 16, 1933, preceded her in death November 23, 1979.

Surviving are one daughter, Velma Jean Gregory of Cedarville; three sons, Clyde Lang of Weston, Roger Lang of High Point, N.C., and Harry Lang of Cincinnati, Ohio; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one half sister, Elfa Simmons.

Mrs. Lang was a housewife and a farmer.
A funeral service was held Saturday, March 31, at 11 a.m., at Floyd Funeral Home, with Rev. Jack Streets officiating. Interment followed in the Horn Creek Church cemetery at Coxs Mills.

William "Bill" Locke

William E. "Bill" Locke, 80, of the Katy community of Marion County, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital in Fairmont.

He was born April 18, 1920, in Marion County, a son of the late Benjamin and Amy Wiley Locke.

His wife, Sylvia M. Hickman Locke, preceded him in death August 26, 1994.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Barry L. and Barbara Locke of Shinnston and Robin L. and Nancy Locke of Jane Lew; three daughters and one son-in-law, Linda L. Locke of Katy, Nancy L. Zicafoose of Katy, and Karen L. and Travis Thorne of Gladwin, Mich.; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Virginia Locke of Rivesville; four grandchildren, Michael Zicafoose, Matthew Zicafoose, Bryan Thorne, and Kaitlin Thorne; several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Alvin Locke and Neal Locke; and one sister, Artola Dowdy.

Mr. Locke worked briefly at Owens-Illinois Glass Plant in Fairmont and later worked as a machinist and tool maker for Charles Phillips Tool Company in Mannington for 14 years. He then worked for Allegheny Ballistics Laboratory at Keyser, and most recently for Mundell Machine, retiring after nearly 10 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and following West Virginia University football and basketball teams. He was a Baptist and an active member of Katy Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home in Fairmont, with Elder Scott Richardson officiating. Interment followed in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens near Morgantown.

George Orson McCord

George Orson McCord, 91, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Clarksburg, died Sunday afternoon, March 25, 2001, at Cleveland.

He was born March 26, 1909, in Lewis County, a son of the late G.W. and Mary Ware McCord.

His wife, Lorena Virginia Matheny McCord, preceded him in death August 11, 1980.

Surviving are one son, Orson Junior McCord of Clarksburg; and six grandchildren.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister. He was also preceded in death by two sons.

Mr. McCord worked for General Motors in Cleveland, Ohio, during World War II. He moved to Clarksburg after the war and worked at the PK Mines before moving back to Cleveland in the 1950s.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home in Clarksburg, with Rev. Robert L. Lowther officiating. Interment followed in the Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.

Wilma H. Mellon

Wilma H. Mellon, 80, of Brackenridge, Pa., died at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, Harrison, Pa., after a lingering illness.

She was born January 5, 1921, at Sutton, a daughter of the late Arthur and Orpha Gregory Helmick.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Alexander Mellon; three sons, Alexander Mellon Jr. of Plum, Pa., Arthur Mellon of Lower Burrell, Pa., and Robert Mellon of Cheswick, Pa.; one daughter, Mrs. John (Cynthia) Irvin of Lower Burrell, Pa.; six grandchildren and one great-grandson; three brothers, Donley Helmick of Jane Lew, Arthur Helmick of Gassaway, and Harold Helmick of Sutton.

Mrs. Mellon had lived at Brackenridge for the past 53 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Brackenridge.
A private funeral service was held. Krynicki Funeral Home in Natrona Heights, Harrison, Pa., was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mary E. Moody

Mary Elizabeth Moody, 82, of Fairmont, formerly of Clarksburg, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Marion Health Care Hospital in Fairmont.

She was born April 23, 1918, at Pricetown in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Charles Roscoe and Hadie Opal Gall Taylor.

Her husband, Elmer Moody, whom she married September 1, 1937, preceded her in death December 14, 1997.

Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles L. Moody Sr. and his wife Sharon, and William K. Moody, all of Fairmont; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol Sue and Chester Tharp of Clarksburg; one half brother, R. Kent Taylor of Elkins; four half sisters, Virginia Lee Travazano of Arizona, JoAnn Grasso of Ohio, Betty Carey of Fairfax, Va., and Patty Butcher of Buckhannon; four grandchildren, Tammy Jo Reese and her husband Jack of South Carolina, Charles L. Moody Jr. and his wife Tina of North Carolina, Shane Tharp and Scott Tharp, both of Clarksburg; two great-grandchildren, Whitney Nichole Reese of South Carolina and Tiffani Nichole Moody of North Carolina; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Delores Moody and Nancy Jo Moody; one sister, Virginia Robertson; and her stepmother, Wilsie Taylor.

Mrs. Moody was a member of Barnes Memorial Baptist Church in North View, where she had taught Sunday School for several years. She enjoyed ceramics at the Clarksburg Senior Citizens Center, gardening, and plastic canvas work.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home in Clarksburg, with Rev. Ronald Bomar officiating. Interment followed in the Waldeck cemetery at Pricetown.

Edward L. Rexroad

Edward L. Rexroad, 81, of 401 John Street in Weston, died at 11:11 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, following an extended illness.

He was born October 14, 1919, in Gilmer County, a son of the late Clarence and Nora Starcher Rexroad.

His wife, Mary Elizabeth Parmer Rexroad, whom he married May 18, 1952, preceded him in death January 15, 1993.

Surviving are two sisters, Marie Sims and Minnie Greathouse, both of Weston; one brother, Franklin S. Rexroad of Sutton; three stepsons, Gerald Bennington of Jane Lew, Howard Bennington, and Lawrence Bennington. Mr. Rexroad and his wife also raised Kathy Burkhammer of Weston.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Rexroad was preceded in death by one daughter, Wanda Marple; and three brothers, Henry, Brooks and Roy Rexroad.

Mr. Rexroad worked as a lumber grader for Sun Lumber Company of Weston and retired from the Weston State Hospital as an aide. He was a member of the Message of Light Tabernacle of Weston.
A funeral service was held Friday, March 23, at 10 a.m., at Floyd Funeral Home, with Rev. William Hoover officiating, assisted by Rev. Clifford West. Interment followed in the Peterson cemetery.
