Burton R. Barrett

Burton R. Barrett, 75, of Burnsville, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Home in Charleston, after a long illness.

He was born January 5, 1926, in Braxton County, a son of the late James T. and Agnes Tomblin Barrett.

Surviving are three sisters, Rosabelle Bush and Shelba Jean Allen, both of Burnsville, and Elizabeth Snyder of Weston.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lovie Eagle and Gladys Alkire.

Mr. Barrett was a Protestant.
A funeral service was held Monday, July 30, at 1 p.m., at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home at Flatwoods, with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating. Burial followed in the Blackburn cemetery near Sand Fork.

Cecil C. Casto

Cecil C. Casto, 88, of West Milford, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Heartland of Clarksburg, following an extended illness.

He was born September 22,1912, at Georgetown in Lewis County, a son of the late William G. and Lillie Blanche Hardman Casto.

His wife, Gladys L. West Casto, preceded him in death October 5, 1992.

Surviving is a first cousin, Mrs. Richard (Lucille) Straight of Grant Town.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother.

Mr. Casto formerly attended United Methodist Temple Church in Clarksburg. He was mayor of West Milford from 1955-59. He retired from Black Rock Contractors, where he was a mechanic, and served in the Navy during World War II.
A funeral service will be held today, Wednesday, August 1, at 11 a.m., at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home in Clarksburg, with Rev. Gary Rapking officiating. Interment will be in the Sheets Mill cemetery.

Erin Cutlip

Erin Elizabeth Cutlip, 27, of Route One, Weston, died at 4 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, following a brief illness.

She was born September 17, 1973, at Charleston, a daughter of William Harley and Nancy Jane (Frashuer) Cutlip of Route One, Weston.

Surviving in addition to her parents are one aunt, Charlotte Barnette of Jane Lew; her paternal grandmother, Anna Claire Cutlip of Deltona, Fla.; her maternal grandmother, Helen Bailey Frashuer of McCann's Run; and several cousins.

Miss Cutlip was employed by the FBI as a fingerprint technician in Bridgeport. She was a member of Broad Run Baptist Church and Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity. She graduated from Lewis County High School in 1991 and attended Sheppard College and, later, Fairmont State College.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, August 1, at Boyle Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenneth Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in the Broad Run cemetery at Jane Lew. Memorial donations in Miss Cutlip's name may be made to Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, Attn: Development Office, PO Box 9300, Morgantown, WV 26506.

Charles E. Frame

Charles E. Frame, 81, of Warrenton, Ga., died at 8:07 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Eisenhower Hospital in Augusta, Ga., following an extended illness.

He was born September 23, 1919, at Gassaway, a son of the late Harry E. Frame and Winnie Davis Stalnaker Frame Williamson.

His wife, Lois Agnes Martin Bass Frame, preceded him in death December 14, 1979.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles B. and Nancy Frame of Stonewood and Robert A. and Laverne Bass of Mulberry, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia "Patty" and Roy White of Bartow, Fla.; one brother, James Frame of Texas; one sister, Mrs. Estelene Osborn of Georgetown; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Gloria Jean Stalnaker.

Mr. Frame was a member of Georgetown United Methodist Church in Lewis County. He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor in 1941 and was a deep sea diver, serving as part of the body recovery unit. He had worked as a welder and pipefitter and had been a maintenance supervisor at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston.
The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, August 1, at Georgetown United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., with Rev. Wayne Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Gilead cemetery in Georgetown. Full military graveside rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 166 of Jane Lew, VFW Post 5131, Central Chapter 697 Military Order of Purple Heart, and DAV Chapter 51. Davis-Weaver Funeral Home of Clarksburg is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Veda Gay Gum

Veda Gay Ware Gum, 86, of 799 West Second Street in Weston, died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, following an extended illness.

She was born May 23, 1915, in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Delbert W. McCauley and Mamy A. Groff.

She was twice married, first to Alpheus Ware, who preceded her in death May 21, 1954, and then to Lott E. Gum, who preceded her in death May 2, 1998.

Surviving are one son, Shirley F. Ware of Weston; two sisters, Rena Johnson of Sylvania, Ohio, and Edith Mick of Burnsville; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Mrs. Gum was a housewife and a member of Churchville United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Floyd Funeral Home today, Wednesday, August 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 2, at 1 p.m., at the funeral home, with Rev. Martin Wine officiating. Interment will follow in the Casto cemetery at Knawls Creek.

Charles E. Huff

Charles E. Huff, 66, of Fort Worth, Tex., died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, after a yearlong battle with cancer.

He was born March 15, 1935, at Weston, a son of the late John and Lola Huff.

His wife of 45 years, the former Mary Laveeda Mars, whom he met in October 1955 while stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Wichita Falls, Tex., survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Pamela Huff of Arlington, Tex., Kim Kimble of Houston, Tex., Debra Moore and her husband Jimmy of Fort Worth, Tex., and Jeannette Smith and her husband Danny of Fort Worth, Tex.; one son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Rene Huff of Fort Worth, Tex.; one brother, James Huff of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Christopher, Dustin, Krystle, Coy, and Lindsey; and a host of nephews and nieces across the United States.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Richard.

Mr. Huff graduated from Weston High School in May 1953 and began his 24 years of service in the United States Air Force in January 1954. He rose to the rank of chief master sergeant. After retiring from the Air Force, he relocated to Fort Worth, Tex., and accepted a position with General Dynamics. After 20 years with General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin, he retired to a life of golf greens.
Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth, Tex., was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Howard McCartney

Howard McCartney, 47, of Ireland, died Monday, July 30, 2001, near Sand Fork, as the result of a logging accident.

He was born January 6, 1954, at Stone Coal, a son of the late Russell C. and Eva Gay Wimer McCartney.

His wife, Vicki D. Collins McCartney, whom he married February 7, 1997, survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Connie Sue McCartney of Walkersville; one son, Howard Russell McCartney of Walkersville; four sisters, Virginia P. Allen and Junita M. Goodwin, both of Cleveland, Ohio, Dorie J. Gregory of Rock Cave, and Lois M. Pickens of Georgia; one brother, Lawrence E. McCartney of Ireland.

Mr. McCartney was a timber cutter for Terry Junkins Logging and a Methodist.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, August 1, at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home in Flatwoods. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 2, at the funeral home, with Rev. Lonnie Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in the Peterson cemetery.

James D. McKenzie

James D. McKenzie, 74, of 21 Kitson Street in Weston, died at 4:50 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001, at his residence, following a brief illness.

He was born October 31, 1926, in White County, Ill., a son of the late Charles A. and Bertha Douglas McKenzie.

His wife, the former Mary A. Smock, whom he married October 21, 1949, survives.

Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Sue and Tim Ross of Charleston; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Michael Ross and his wife Angie of Jane Lew and Rachelle Ross Hammond and her husband Richard of Jane Lew; one great-granddaughter, Emily Loran Hammond; two brothers, Jess D. McKenzie and Kenneth R. McKenzie, both of Norris City, Ill.; four sisters, Margie Robinson and Margaret Shaw, both of Norris City, Ill., his twin sister, Beulah Walden, of Cocoa, Fla., and Mary Holtzclaw of McClure, Ill.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Earl McKenzie, and one sister, Elta Hall.

Mr. McKenzie was employed at Kirk Drilling Company in Illinois and later retired from Chisler Brothers Inc. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Weston and a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Boyle Funeral Home, with Rev. David Krum officiating. Interment followed in the Weston Masonic cemetery.

Clara Ann Metz

Miss Clara Ann Metz, 44, of 11 Crooked Fork Road in Weston, Copley community, died at 11:18 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, following an extended illness.

She was born January 23, 1957, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Earl L. and Wanemia R. Byrd Metz.

Surviving are four sisters, Linda K. Halterman and Susan Bailey, both of Weston, Francis Austin of Streetsboro, Ohio, and Carol L. Lynn of Belle Vernon, Pa.; three brothers, William Metz of Weston, Charles E. Metz of West Newton, Pa., and Michael D. Metz of Fayette City, Pa.; several nieces and nephews.

Miss Metz was a member of Bealls Mill United Methodist Church.
A funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Floyd Funeral Home, with Rev. Jeff Zickefoose officiating. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Virginia Dell Morris

Virginia Dell Linger Morris, 64, of Clarksburg, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at her home.

She was born September 7, 1936, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late James R. and Vera Juanita Barnett Linger.

Surviving are one son, William Thomas Reaser of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three daughters, Janet Grimes of West Milford, Billie Lewis of Clarksburg, and Kimberley Sue Arnett of Clarksburg; two sisters, Ida Mae Butcher and Thelma Linger, both of West Milford; one brother, James G. Linger of West Milford; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Aaron C. Reaser, and one sister, Anna Lee Frazier.
Mrs. Morris had worked for the Clarksburg Public Library and attended Calvary Apostolic Church at Stonewood.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, July 31, at 1 p.m., at Harmony cemetery, with Pastor James Feeney officiating. Morris Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
