William Robert Brown

William Robert "Bob" Brown, 78, of 258-B Brown Road, Jane Lew, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston.

He was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Harrison County, a son of the late Samuel Oren and Mary Jane Law Brown.

His wife, Gearldine "Gerri" Brown, whom he married July 22, 1950, at Oakland, Md., survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert Boone Brown and his wife, Kim, of Jane Lew, and T. Michael Brown and Ann Hart of Bridgeport; one daughter, Cheryl Boner and her husband, Mike, of Jane Lew; seven grandchildren, Michael Todd Brown of Bridgeport, Amy Brown of Weston, Claire Brown of Jane Lew, Erin Boner and Adam Boner, both of Jane Lew, Devin Brown and Breanna Brown, both of Jane Lew.

Mr. Brown was assistant director of the Good Sams Camping Club and a charter member of the Lewis County Boot and Saddle Club. He was a longtime farmer and retired from Mason Glass Company at Jane Lew. He graduated from Unidis High School at West Milford; served in the United States Army during the Korean War; and attended Fairview United Methodist Church.

A funeral service was held Monday, June 16, at 1 p.m., at Morris Funeral Home in Jane Lew, with the Rev. William Hunt officiating. Burial followed in the Broad Run cemetery.

Darrell Phillip Cable

Darrell Phillip Cable, 43, of Tallmansville, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at his home.

He was born July 28, 1959, at Lexington, Ky., a son of Robert Cable, who survives at Buckhannon, and Betty Upchurch Bush, who survives at Muncie, Ind.

His wife, Shiela Rena Russell Cable, whom he married Oct. 1, 1989, survives.

Also surviving are his stepmother, Chulita Cable of Buckhannon; a son, Aaron Phillip Cable of Tallmansville; a daughter, Sheena Racquel Cable of Tallmansville; four brothers, Robert Cable and his wife, Jill, of Buckhannon, Kenneth Cable and his wife, Brenda, of Charlotte, N.C., Christopher Cable and his wife, Vonda, of Elkins, and Tracy Eugene Cable of Bridgeport; two sisters, Teresa Martin and her husband, Paul, of New York, and Angela Murphy and her husband, Tim, of Fairmont; his paternal grandmother, Margaret Cable of Zachariah, Ky.; several nieces and nephews; one stepbrother, Thomas Bush of Indiana; two stepsisters, Charlotte Bush and Laura Baker, both of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Joseph Cable.

Mr. Cable was employed at 84 Lumber. He was a member and trustee of Cutright Chapel and a member of Franklin Lodge #7 AF&AM.

A funeral service was held Sunday, June 15, at 2 p.m., at Cutright Chapel, with the Rev. Bradley Tenney and the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. Interment followed in the Cutright Chapel cemetery at Queens. Gravesite rites were accorded by Franklin Lodge #7 AF&AM.

Sigel Walter Fleming

Sigel Walter Fleming, 82, of 121 W. Sixth St., Weston, died at 10:30 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2003, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, following a brief illness.

He was born July 6, 1920, at Weston, a son of the late Minor S. and Gertrude Mae (Clark) Fleming.

His wife, Harriet (Malone) Fleming, whom he married Aug. 13, 1953, preceded him in death Jan. 13, 1993.

Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Marissa Josie Smith and her husband, DaCosta Smith III, of Canonsburg, Pa., and Kista Jean Fleming of Springfield, Va.; two grandchildren, Leslie E. Cunningham and Joseph B. Cunningham; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Fleming, Paul Fleming, and his twin brother, Clifford Fleming; and two sisters, Theta Melba Fleming and Ava Dare Fleming.

Mr. Fleming was a retired surveyor with the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church; a former member of Weston Moose Lodge 1376; a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

The body was cremated. A memorial service was held Monday, June 16, at 2 p.m., at Boyle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rupert Evans officiating. A committal service will be held at Machpelah cemetery at a later date, at the convenience of the family.

French L. Hamner

French L. Hamner, 78, of HC 78, Rock Cave, died June 14, 2003.

He was born July 15, 1924, at Gaines, a son of the late Lloyd and Cosbie Strader Hamner.

His wife, the former Waneta Mae Gregory, whom he married in 1947 at Buckhannon, survives.

Also surviving are five sons, Richard, Allen, Paul, Stanley and Steve Hamner, all of Gaines; three daughters, Nelva Lou Teter of Walkersville, Julia Rose Hamner of Gaines, and Lesa Faye Perrine of Gaines; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson; two sisters, Martha Daniels and Juanita Post, both of Buckhannon.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Phillip Lloyd and Michael John Hamner; one daughter, Minnie Mae Hamner; three brothers, Henry Hamner, Max Hamner, and Harry Hamner; three sisters, Bertha Marley, Ruth Long, and Geneva Arnold.

Mr. Hamner was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and a member of Salem Ridge United Methodist Church. He was a carpenter and cabinet maker.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Robert M. Vincent Funeral Home in French Creek, with the Rev. Charlene Edwards officiating (the body will lie in state from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.). Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

John J. Ocheltree

John J. Ocheltree, 73, died Monday, June 9, 2003.

He was born at Weston, a son of the late Draper "Ike" and Mabel Ocheltree.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia; children, John Daniel (and his wife, Dianne), Sandra P. Hensley, David W. (and his wife, Sherry), Timothy G. (and his wife, Karen), Mark S. (and his wife, Debbie), and Phillip D.; grandchildren, Christopher (and his wife, Erin), Bryan, Athena Hensley, Karlina (and her husband, Capt. Larry Helderman), Nathan Hensley, Matthew, Rebecca, Jacob, Jennifer, Timothy, Alex, Kevin, Johnmark, Melissa, Emily, and Eric; and great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Colten.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ona Hinkle Ocheltree; and his son-in-law, Larry Hensley.

Mr. Ocheltree had been a resident of the Barberton, Ohio, area for 53 years. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox with 41 years of service and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

A funeral service was held Friday, June 13, at 1 p.m., at Faith Baptist Church of Barberton, Ohio, with Pastor James E. Caskey officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Burial Park. Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Teresa Ann Skinner

Teresa Ann Skinner, 40, of Moraine, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Kettering Memorial Hospital in Ohio.

She was born April 21, 1963, at Weston, a daughter of the late Joseph Onley Smith and Ruth E. Smith of the Berlin community in Lewis County.

She was married to her husband, John Skinner, for 20 years.

Surviving are one daughter, Kelly Skinner, and one son, John Tyler Skinner, both at home; one brother, Michael Smith of Weston; one sister, Kathy Riffle of Weston; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. Skinner was a bus driver for the West Carrollton Board of Education in West Carrollton, Ohio, and a member of the First Baptist Church of West Carrollton. She was a graduate of Lewis County High School and attended Fairmont State College.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 18, at 1 p.m., at Floyd Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger McKee officiating. Interment will follow in the Weston Masonic cemetery. Memorial donations in Mrs. Skinner's name may be made to Berlin United Methodist Church, 2866 Old Route 33, Horner, WV 26372.

David Warner

David E. "Dave" Warner, 51, of Wolcott, Ind., died at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette, Ind., due to a brain aneurysm.

He was born June 9, 1952, at Coldwater, a son of Arden S. and Juanita Simms Warner.

Surviving are two daughters, Kristie Warner of Lafayette, Ind., and Mrs. Mickey (Terrie) Scowden of Delphi, Ind.; six sisters, Elizabeth Warner of Monticello, Ind., Mrs. James (Virginia) Green of Knoxville, Tenn., Mrs. Bill (Mary) Saltwell of Idaville, Ind., Mrs. Jay (Emma) Emelio of Clarksburg, Betty Warner of Yeoman, Ind., and Iva Haresty of Idaville, Ind.; two brothers, Lawrence Warner of Jane Lew and Arden E. Warner of Idaville, Ind.

A nephew is deceased.

Mr. Warner graduated from Lewis County High School in 1970 and had lived in the Wolcott community for 30 years. He was a nighttime supervisor at Dwyer Instruments Inc. in Wolcott. He loved to shoot pool and ride his Harley. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved to watch his grandson play T-ball.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home in Monticello, Ind., with the Rev. Chris Dobson officiating. Burial followed in the Idaville cemetery.

Ada Kathleen Hall

Ada Kathleen "Kate" Hall, 65, of 251 N. River Ave., Weston, died at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003, at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, following a brief illness.

She was born May 21, 1938, at Alum Bridge, a daughter of the late Elmer Warren McHenry and Stella Elizabeth (Lamb) McHenry Lawrence.

Her husband, Roy Lee "Jack" Hall, whom she married Aug. 12, 1956, preceded her in death Sept. 17, 1989.

Surviving are one son, Thomas Ross Hall of Weston; one daughter, Susan Kathleen Hall of Weston; four sisters, Mary Alice Blake, Helen Marie "Dot" Butler, and Carol Frances Bush, all of Weston, and Ruth Ann Talbott of Camden; two brothers, Leo B. McHenry of Newport News, Va., and William R. McHenry of High Point, N.C.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Stanley Jack Hall; one sister, Evelyn Hope McHenry; and one brother, Charles Warren McHenry.

Mrs. Hall was a homemaker and a Methodist. She enjoyed flowers, embroidering, and quilting; she made a quilt for all babies she knew.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 30, at 11 a.m., at Boyle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clifford West officiating. Interment will follow in the Rock Grove cemetery at Linn.

William L. Hawkins Sr.

William Lawrence Hawkins Sr., 70, of 4966 U.S. Highway 19 North, Jane Lew, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at West Pennsylvania Burn Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., following an accident.

He was born Oct. 2, 1932, at Vadis, a son of the late Jesse J. and Dollie Mabel (Starcher) Hawkins.

His wife, Wanda J. (Woodson) Hawkins, whom he married Sept. 16, 1954, survives.

Also surviving are one son, William Lawrence Hawkins Jr. of Jane Lew; one daughter, Diane Ocheltree of Jane Lew; three grandchildren, Anna Turner, Steven Hawkins, and Deena Ocheltree; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Geneva Brown of Weston; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James D. Hawkins.

Mr. Hawkins was a carpenter and a self-employed car body repairman. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served as a private first class in the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of DAV Chapter 51, American Legion Post 4 of Weston, and American Legion Post 166 of Jane Lew.

A funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Floyd Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clyde Gidley officiating. Interment followed in the Waldeck cemetery. Full military graveside rites were accorded by American Legion Post 4 of Weston, American Legion Post 166 of Jane Lew, DAV Chapter 51, VFW Chapter 5131 of Jane Lew, and Central WV Chapter 697 Military Order of the Purple Heart.
