Dorothy L. Hudson

Dorothy L. Hudson, 89, of Clearwater, Fla., died July 1, 2003, at Clearwater Center.

She was born at Jane Lew, a daughter of the late Dolpha Bailey and Buena Grace (Walker) Musser.

Surviving are one daughter, Marylyn K. Wolf and her husband, Joseph Jim Kaminsky, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Barbara J. Mathews and her husband, E. Duane, of Howard, Ohio; two granddaughters, Teresa Haley (Byrnes) Patino and her husband, Harold A., and Patricia Grace Byrnes, of Chicago, Ill.; one great-grandson, Mitchell Jay Patino of Chicago, Ill.

She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, James Quinter and Rosa Mary (Ballard) Musser; one sister, Hilda Doris Huffman; and her husbands, Howard Ream Hudson and Herbert R. Frederickson.

Mrs. Hudson moved to Clearwater in 1953. She was a U.S. Army nurse and was employed at Morton Plant Hospital. She was a member of Keene Terrace Baptist Church in Largo, Fla., for more than 40 years, and was also librarian, AGAPE Sunday School Class. She was a member of Florida Nurses Association District 33, Order of Eastern Star Queen Esther Chapter 4, American Legion Turner Brandon Post, and the DAR.

She received a Teaching Certificate from Glenville State Teachers College in May 1933, a Certificate of Graduate Nurse from Union Protestant Hospital School of Nursing in Clarksburg in December 1933, and a B.S. degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon in June 1941.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, Fort Harrison Chapel, with the Rev. Gary L. Rucker officiating.

Rosemary Lucille Miller

Rosemary Lucille Miller, 72, of 2417 Old Mill Road, Weston, formerly a resident of Crestview Nursing Home of Jane Lew, died at 1:20 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Linda Corley, following an extended illness.

She was born July 15, 1931, at Weston, a daughter of the late Eugene Ulric Williams and Gertrude Frances (Langford) Williams.

Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Corley of Weston, Connie and Larry McCoy of Jackson's Mill, and Carolyn Sue and Donnell Armstrong of Clarksville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, Stephen Ray Armstrong, Donna Sue Burdick, Camie Howe, Jonathan Armstrong, Brian Eugene Corley, Timothy Scott Corley, Lisa Tomey, Kenny Miller, Chad Lee McCoy, and Daniel Lee McCoy; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Catherine Duncan of Salem; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one son, French Junior Miller; one brother, Clifford Williams; and two husbands, Arthur French Miller and Ralph Stover.

Mrs. Miller was a retired health care worker with the Weston State Hospital. She was a member of Valley View Church of the Nazarene of Weston.

A funeral service was held Monday, July 28, at 11 a.m., at Boyle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Interment followed in the Machpelah cemetery in Weston.

Harley L. Smith

Harley L. Smith, 93, of Walkersville, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at his residence, following an extended illness.

He was born Dec. 27, 1909, at Roanoke, a son of the late David and Mary Florence Bennett Smith.

His wife, Reatha A. Smith, survives.

Also surviving are one brother, Clyde Smith of Weston; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his caregivers, June and Bob Ables.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Woodrow Smith; one sister, Goldia White; one half brother, Weise Davis; and one half sister, Quincey Pratt.

Mr. Smith was a Methodist. He worked at Ray Exxon for several years and later retired from the Lewis County Board of Education as a mechanic at the bus garage.

At the request of the deceased, the body was donated to the WVU Gift Registry. Interment will take place at a later date in the Rock Cave cemetery. Boyle Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Richard Lee (Rick) Barnett

Mr. Richard Lee (Rick) Barnett, 54, of Salem, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 7 p.m. at the United Hospital Center.

He was born December 28, 1949, in Kansas City, Mo, a son of Harry Lee and Norma Jean Bryant Barnett of Clarksburg.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Byrd Barnett, whom he married, June 23, 2001.

Also surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, R. Michael and Betty Barnett, and Brian Todd Barnett, all of Salem; a daughter and son-in-law, Brittney Rebecca and Philip Robbins, of Weston; three step-sons, one of whom is Lee Frashure and his wife, Mary, of Glenville; one brother and sister-in-law, Steven Allen and Sharon Barnett, of Spanishburg, W.Va.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Beth Anne and Timothy Russell, of Clarksburg, and Deborah Louise Barnett, of Buckhannon; two grandchildren, Aireal Sage Robbins and Keersyn Jade Robbins, both of Weston; four step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and several aunts and uncles.

Mr. Barnett was preceded in death by a step-son, and one brother, David Bryant Barnett.

Mr. Barnett was Protestant by faith. He was a member of the Harrisville L.O.O. Moose Lodge #944 and the I.O.G.A. He was a biker enthusiast (Harley Davidson) and rode in area poker runs. He was employed as a production superintendent with Excel Energy Inc., in Bridgeport for about 18 years.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27 at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home in Clarksburg, with the Reverend Richard Wilson presiding.

According to his request, Mr. Barnett was cremated.

George A. "Jack" Brady

George A. "Jack" Brady, 71, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the home of his daughter, in Dublin, Ohio.

He was born January 18, 1933, in Wellsburgh, W.Va., a son of the late Roscoe N. & Mary O. Behrmann Brady.

Jack was a retired employee of the Union cemetery, Steubenville, a veteran of the US. Army, member of the Farm Bureau Association, and the Mingo Senior Citizens Center, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and small engine repair.

Surviving are a son, Tim Brady and his wife Rona, Pataskala, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. John (Belinda) Riendeau, of Dublin; two brothers, Roscoe N. Brady, Jr., of Barberton, Ohio, and John F. Brady, of Chicago, Ill., two sisters, Mrs. Ersel (Ida Belle) Davisson, Glenville, and Gertrude Smith, New Milton; two grandsons Jack and Andy Riendeau, and a beloved companion, Dorthy Wise, of Follansbee.

Funeral Services were held March 10, 2004 at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Jct., Ohio, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles "Sonny" Shoe, officiating. Internment followed in Union cemetery, Steubenville, Ohio.

Memorial contributions were made to Valley Hospice, Inc., 380 Summit Ave., Steubenville, Ohio 43952.

Alma Jeanne Burton

Alma Jeanne Burton, 80, of 20 Monroe Street, Salem died at 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 in United Hospital Center of Clarksburg following a three year illness.

She was born Jan. 31, 1924, in Saint George, a daughter of the late Earl J. Lipscomb and Susie (Lay) Lipscomb.

She was preceded in death by both her first husband, Salvatore Joseph Isabella, and her second husband, Ronzel Burton. Mrs. Burton was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Mrs. Burton is survived by; one daughter, Constance R Bowen of West Union, one son, Joseph Isabella of Baltimore, Md., three grandchildren, Constance J. Bowen, James L. Bowen and Shaun S. Bowen, and two great-grandchildren, Scot M. Hustead and Brandon L. Gillispie. Also surviving are one brother Virgil Lipscomb of New Milton, two sisters Patricia Hawkins of Belington and Juanita Chewning of Mabie, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Burton was a retired licensed practical nurse. She worked at the Tucker County Hospital of Parsons for two years. She also was employed at John Hopkins Hospital of Baltimore, Md. for nine years. She ran a small nursing home on Rush Run in Diddridge county. Mrs. Burton actively worked for the political campaigns of Jay Rockefeller and Congressman Bob Mollahahn.

Funeral Services were held Friday, March 26, 2004 at Floyd's Funeral Home. Interment was followed in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Weston.

Albert L. (Luther) Cayton

Albert L. (Luther) Cayton, 60, of Pensacola, Fla. formerly of Camas Wash., was killed by terrorists in a roadside IED attack near Camp Scania in Iraq on Feb. 23, 2004.

He was born on July 14, 1943, in Walkersville, the son of the late Jahue Cayton and Oria Mae Skinner Cayton.

Mr. Cayton is survived by his wife, Karen, of Pensacola, Fla., to whom he was married for 40 years.

Other survivors are his son, Phillip Cayton, of Woodland, Wash., his son-brother, John Cayton of England, his daughters Tracey Volk of Pensacola, Fla., and Michelle Harwood of Post Falls, Idaho, grandchildren Allen and Joe Volk of Pensacola Fla., Larisa Pastras and Hunter Cayton of Post Fall, Idaho, and Gaby, Tabitha and Ned Read-Cayton of England.

Also surviving are two brothers, Ferrell Cayton of Titusville Fla., and Steve Cayton of North, S.C., six sisters, Mrs. Steve (Brenda) Shriver of Weston, Mrs. Larry (Betty) Kemper of Lewisburg, Ms. Jan Smoot of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. Jim (Sandra) Brown of St. Clairsville, Ohio, Ms. Bernice Bulman of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mrs. Ethel Shields of Walkersville. He was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Cayton and one sister Eldora Skinner Messenger.

At the time of his death, he was working for Kellogg Brown and Root at Camp Anaconda in Balad, Iraq. He had worked for Consolidated Freightways for 34 years before retiring when the company closed its doors in September 2002. As a result of his safe driving record, he became a member of the company's 3 million-mile club. His name was inscribed on the side of a company truck and he was honored to drive that truck to haul steel from ground zero to Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., where the steel will be made into Freedom's Flame, a memorial to the tragedies of September 11. He was also a member of the America's Road Team. He was a veteran who continued to be a very patriotic man throughout his life.

A memorial service was held at Pine Forest United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Barrancas National cemetery in Pensacola, Fla. on March 3, 2004.

Nick Fane Compton

Nick Fane Compton, 75, of Weston, formerly of Louisa, died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at Charleston Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 10, 1928 in Louisa, Ky., a son of the late W.D. Compton and Anna Laura VanHorne Compton.

He is survived by his wife, Lenora Jo Chambers Compton.

His other survivors include two daughters, Vickie Lynne Kline of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Nola Irvin on Union Town, Ark.; seven sisters, Avis Foley, Edris Fern Short and her husband, Homer, Maris Lucas and her husband, Bob, and Corlis Barnette and her husband, Edd, all of Louisa; and Joey McComas of Cincinnati, Janis Hayes and her husband, Ray of Batavia, Ohio, and Iris Freelander of Long Beach, Calif.; two brothers, David L. Compton and his wife, Gerri, and Ned Compton and his wife Aileen, all of Louisa; four stepchildren, Mykol Crace of Toledo, Ohio, Valerie Johnson of Charleston, Gregory Crace of Bridgeport, and Shawn Allen of Weston, 12 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Glen V. Compton, Jack G. Compton, Jay Vanhorne Compton and Craig Tyson Compton.

Mr. Compton was a retired oil field pumper.

The funeral was held at Young Funeral Home Chapel in Louisa, and burial was in the Compton cemetery both in Louisa, Ky.

Kay Francis Fisher Dotson

Kay Francis Fisher Dotson, 63, of Rt.1 Greenwood, died at 10:42 p.m., March 17, 2004, at the United Hospital Center of Clarksburg.

She was born April 1, 1941 in Lewis County, the daughter of the late Loudin Guy Fisher and Sarah Margaret Smith Fisher of Route 3, Weston.

She was married March 30, 1987 in Lewis County to Edward F. Dotson, who survives.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by one son, John Westley Carder of Greenwood; one daughter, Teresa Kay (Carder) Dotson and husband, Donnie, of West Union; four grandchildren; four sisters, Ruth Virginia (Fisher)Hicks and her husband, Ike, of Weston, Nancy Lee (Fisher) Halterman and husband, Terry, of Weston, Linda Sue Fisher of Route 3 Weston and Carol Marie Fisher of Weston, and one brother, Louie Jackson Fisher and his wife, Linda, of Weston.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Ann (Fisher) Allman and one brother, William Lewis Fisher.

Mrs. Dotson was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith and was a resident of SunBridge Nursing Home of Salem.

Funeral services were held at the Morris Funeral Home in Jane Lew Saturday March 20, 2004 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Randolph cemetery.
