Louise Rogers

Louise Ann Messenger Rogers, 86, of Weston, formerly of Jane Lew, died at Crestview Manor Nursing Home July 30, 2004.

She was born July 30, 1918, in Jane Lew, a daughter of the late William and Ida Norman Messenger. She was married to Calvin Rogers who preceded her in death January 31, 1954.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Ann Jamison; one infant son, George Clayton; five brothers and one sister; and one brother-in-law, Charles Clem.

She is survived by one son, Denver Rogers and wife, Sharon, of Buckhannon; four daughters, Louella Clem of Weston, Opal Lockhart and husband, Bobby, of Va., Betty Srout and husband, Larry, of Pargettsville, W.Va., and Janie Posey and husband, Kenny, of Weston; son-in-law, Fred Jamison; 12 grandchildren, Terry Srout, Carrie Chidester, Mary Dawn and John Ellifritz, Mike Clem, Misty and Keith Arthur, Charlie and Crystal Clem, Connie and John Riffle, Jamie Brand, Michelle Jamison, Mary Beth Posey, and Janice and Scott Goldsmith; 22 great-grandchildren; two nieces, Alice Peters and Marie Peters; and two nephews, John Peters and Paul Peters.

Mrs. Rogers was a homemaker. She was a Methodist by faith and attended the Valley View Nazarine Church.

Funeral services were held August 3 at the Valley View Nazarine Church with Pastor Toby Dukich officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Ruth Titus

Ruth Richards Titus, 90, of Route 2, Jane Lew, died July 31, 2004 at Crest View Manor Nursing Home at 10:05 a.m.

She born in Harrison County February 6, 1914, a daughter of the late Hiram and Lora Richards. She was married February 6, 1960, in Weston, to William Aubrey Titus who preceded her in death December 9, 1992.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Surviving are one son, Robert H. Richards and wife, Virginia, of Route 2, Jane Lew; one daughter, Susie Ratliff and husband, David, of Route 2, Jane Lew; two brothers, Frank Richards and Earl Richards of Salem; and nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Titus was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at the Morris Funeral Home Wednesday, August 4 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Haymond Plaugher assisted by the Rev. Roger Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Lebanon cemetery.

Marion Lowman

Marion Arnett Lowman, 91, of Route 2, Jane Lew, died at 9:45 a.m. August 1, 2004 at the Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center, Clarksburg.

He was born January 25, 1913 at Kincheloe, the son of the late Worthy and Cora Bell Lowman. On July 18, 1966, he married Sarah Mildred Durbin who preceded him in death December 16, 1998.

He is survived by his loyal care givers, Charles and Ruby Dennison of Route 2, Jane Lew.

Mr. Lowman retired from the Good Hope Market where he had worked for thirty years. He was a professional floor sander, held a degree in business administration, was a taxidermist and a graduate of Unidis High School. He was a veteran of W.W.II serving in the United States Army. Mr. Lowman attended the Mt. Lebabon Church and was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Morris Funeral Home Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tim Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Peggy Ann Whelan

Peggy Ann Whelan, 62, of Connellsville, formerly of Weston, died Friday, July 30, 2004 at 11 p.m. at her home following an extended illness.

She was born September 18, 1941, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Sam J. and Betty J. Brannon Marchio.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas R. Whelan, whom she married July 28, 1962; her children, Lisa Young and husband, Andrew, and Sandra Snead and husband, Scott, all of Glen Allen, Va., Laura Whelan and Lou Edwards of Va. Beach, Thomas Whelan and his fiance, Alissa Issacson of Swannanoa, N.C., and Elizabeth Whelan of Connellsville, Pa.; and her grandchildren, Brandon Young, Samantha Snead and Noah Snead, all of Glen Allen, Va.

Mrs. Whelan was a graduate of Weston High School and Fairmont General Hospital School of Nursing in Fairmont, W.Va. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville.

A blessing service followed by a funeral Mass was held August 3 in the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. Terry Hercik as celebrant. Interment followed in the Macpelah cemetery, Weston, with the Rev. James Murphy officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Peggy Ann Whelan.

Emmaline Wilson

Emmaline E. Wilson, 67, of Fairmont, died Friday, July 30, 2004 at her residence.

She was born March 26, 1937, at Roanoke, a daughter of the late Oscar L. and Arbutus Rose Hoover Gould. On May 6, 1960, she married John A. Wilson who survives.

Also surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Joan M. and Curtis McDaniel of Fairmont; one granddaughter, Ashley McDaniel of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Cecil, Ercil, Gilbert, Hayward, Virgil, and Waldo Gould; and one sister, Goldie Wright.

Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker, formerly employed by the Taylor County Sheltered Workshop from 1978-85 and the Menke Funeral Home of Sun City, Arizona from 1985-95. She was a member of the Janes Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the administrative council at the church. She was a 1955 graduate of Weston High School and attended Glenville State College.

Mrs. Wilson enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She was a life member of D.A.V.A.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 2 from the Ford Funeral Home with Pastor Johnna Wheaton officiating. A private committal service will be held at a later date at the Forest Lawn cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Janes Memorial United Methodist Church, Route 7 Box 300, Fairmont, WV 26554.

Elizabeth O'Ferrell

Elizabeth Va. O'Ferrell, 83, formerly of Big Battle, Salem area, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004 following a short illness.

She was born Dec. 31, 1920, a daughter of the late Samuel Frank Stout and Ethel Crabson Stout.

She is survived by two sons, Ernest "Butch" O'Ferrell of Springfield, Va., and Joseph O'Ferrell of Shinnston; five daughters, Elizabeth "Ann" Grizzle of Melbourne, Fla., Margaret Wanstreet, with husband Charles, of Enterprise, Mildred Hogg, with husband Jack, of Melbourne, Linda Crock, with husband Don, of Wallace, and Donna Skinner, with husband George, of Lumberport; two half-brothers, Curtis Stout, address unknown, and Frank Stout Jr. of Miami; one half-sister, Joann Cole of Dayton, Ohio; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, John Samuel and Don Mitchell O'Ferrell; and three half-sisters, Mabel Phillips, Olive Hutson and Eva Lowther.

Mrs. O'Ferrell was a charter member of Salem Church of Christ and was a homemaker. She was an avid reader of the Bible and many other types of books. She was the recipient of many political awards, namely the Bronze Leader DAV, U.S. flag from Senator Robert C. Buyrd, which was flown over the Capitol Dec. 4, 1980.

Service was at the Greathouse Funeral Home, Salem, with Albert Farley officiating.

Interment was in Coplin cemetery.

Mary L. Hoard

Mary Lillian Hoard, 71, of French Creek, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004 at her home.

She was born March 2, 1933 in Braxton County, a daughter of the late William M. and Gretta Brady Dean.

In addition, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orben Earl Hoard; one grandson, Jason Patrick Hoard; and two sisters, Helen Marks and Betty Collins.

She is survived by two sons, Roger E. Hoard of St. Clairsville, Ohio, and Carl Don Hoard of Clarksburg; one brother, Lewis Dean of Jane Lew; two sisters, Carol Lea Frame of French Creek and Lora Mae Staley of Strange Creek; and six grandchildren, Travis B. Hoard of Morgantown, and Shawn C., Ryon E., Amber, Heather, Brody and Mason Garrett Hoard, all of Wheeling.

Mrs. Hoard enjoyed quilting and baking. She was a very caring person and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Kanawha Run United Methodist Church.

Services were Thursday at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kevin Bender and Rev. Daniel Lowther officiating. Interment was in Ross cemetery at Flatwoods.

Chuck Hiner

Chuck Hiner ,58, of Dellslow died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004 at his home.

He was born May 23, 1946 in Morgantown, a son of Mary J. Rubick Hiner of Dellslow and the late Hobert F. Hiner.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Cheryl Carroll Hiner; one son, Andrew Todd Hiner of Weston; two step-sons, Ricky Little of Dellslow and Marty Webb of Fairmont; and one grandson, Zachary Webb.

Mr. Hiner was a cement finisher for many years and was a member of the Cement Finishers Union Local 39 Area 711 and also a member of various car clubs, where he enjoyed rebuilding, driving and servicing street rods.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Matheny officiating. Cremation will follow and burial will be at the convenience of the family at East Oak Grove cemetery.

Friends may call from noon until the time of service Wednesday.

Robert P. Everett

Robert P. Everett, 73, of Stewartstown, Pa., died Sept. 29, 2004 at his home. Born April 27, 1931 in Weston, he was the son of the late Albert Frank and Leota Pearl (Porter) Everett. On Oct. 13, 1950, he married Verna E. (Moody) Everett, who survives.

In addition, he is survived by one son, Robert A. Everett and wife, Katherine, of Baltimore, Md.; daughters, Denise E. Cummins with husband, Craig and Tina E. Hawkins with husband, Jim, all of Stewartstown, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Everett was a machinist at Bethlehem Steel of Baltimore, Md. and China, for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Weston Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Bennett Masonic Lodge in Crawford, W.Va., as well as the Shriners and Scottish Rite.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc. with Pastor Glenn L. Ridall, Jr. officiating.

Orpha V. Batten

Orpha Virginia Batten, 91, of Weston died at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born Feb. 3, 1913 in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Garfield and Clara Alltop Paugh.

She first married William M. Crook, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 14, 1956, she married Louis Frank Batten, who preceded her in death on July 5, 1977.

Surviving are three daughters, Lillian V. Waldeck and husband William of Jacksonville, Fla.; Maxine Mick and husband Clifford of Weston and Frankie Kalafat and husband John of Morgantown; one son, Billy Crook and wife Jean of Weston; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.

Also preceding her in death were one daughter, June Lewis; one son, Robert Crook; four sisters; two brothers; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Batten was a glassworker with the Colonial Glass Factory and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston.

Funeral service was Tuesday at Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Crouch officiating. Interment was in Peterson cemetery, Weston.
