Alva Martin Bennett
Alva Martin “Marty” Bennett, age 51, of 42 5th St., Buckhannon, WV, died Monday, January 2, 2006, at the Sago Mine in Sago, WV.
He was born September 22, 1954, in Buckhannon, WV, a son of Alva H. Bennett and Anna Bailey Bennett of Buckhannon.
His wife, Judy Ann Lantz Bennett, whom he married June 29, 1973, survives.
Also surviving are a son, Russell Martin, and wife Bobby Bennett of Horner, WV; four sisters, Donnie Perry, Diane Robinson, Sharon Robinson and Sandra Linger, all of Buckhannon, WV; one brother, Roger Bennett of Buckhannon, WV; and several nieces and nephews and friends.
Marty was a professional coal miner for many years. He was also owner and operator of Martin Bennett Backhoe and Dozer Service. Marty enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing and four-wheeling with his son and close friends.
Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2006, at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, 95 S. Kanawha St., Buckhannon. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2006, at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, with Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Miller cemetery in Horner, WV.

Laura Pearl Cutright
Laura Pearl Cutright, 83, of Holbrook Nursing Home and formerly of Weston, died Sunday, January 8, 2006, at Holbrook Nursing Home.
She was born September 30, 1922, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Samuel and Dovie Snow Pringle Duncan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence F. Cutright.
She is survived by two sons, Doyle R. and wife Karen Cutright of Buckhannon, and Dayton and wife Nancy Darlene Cutright of Weston; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; one brother, Paul Duncan and wife Glenna of Akron, Ohio; one sister, Catherine Hall of Walkersville; two half brothers, Marion "Buck" and wife Pearl Duncan of Walkersville, and William "Bill" and wife Betty Duncan of Weston; six half sisters, Wilma and husband Oley Curtis of Weston, Rose and husband Thomas Aichele of Clarksburg, Mildred and husband Rondal Rittenhouse of Westfield, Betty Burkhammer of Weston, Pauline Riffle and husband Russell of Walkersville, and Sylvia and husband Carl Ables of Weston.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Goldie Ruth Rollins and Ester Anna Cutright, also one brother, Richard Duncan, one half brother, Cottie L. Summers and one sister, Irene Burkhammer.
Mrs. Cutright was Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 12, at 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel with Rev. Sue Lowther officiating. Interment will follow in the Wimer cemetery.

Jerry Lee Groves
Jerry Lee Groves, age 56, of Cleveland, WV, died January 4, 2006 at Sago, WV.
He was born December 22, 1949 in Buckhannon a son of the late Charles Aaron Groves is survived by his mother Wanda M. Bankhead Groves.
He was united in marriage on March 7, 1977 to Deborah A. Groves who survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Shelly and husband Mike Rose of King George, VA and grandchildren Eric Rose, age 11, Zachary Rose, age 7, and Matthew Rose, age 4, and brothers, Raymond Groves of Cowen, WV, Bobby Groves of Cleveland, WV, John Groves of Cleveland, WV and Ronnie Groves of Birch River, WV. He is also survived by sisters, Geraldine Bruso of Tampa, FL, Sandra Neel of Bridgeport and Beckie Rodgers of Weston, WV
He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Groves.
Jerry was a member of the Cleveland Independent Baptist Church.
Friends were received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Saturday from 5-9PM. Memorial services were held on Sunday, January 8, 2006 at the Cleveland Independent Baptist Church in Cleveland, WV with Rev. Chris Cosner officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Right to Life Campaign, The Salvation Army or The American Red Cross.

Jason Todd Moody
Jason Todd Moody, 22, of 3953 Churchville Rd., Camden, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2006, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital of Morgantown, as a result of a fall on the job site.
He was born October 3, 1983, in Weston, a son of Fred D. Moody of Garden City Beach, SC, and Janet Rowan Reed of Waterford, Ohio. Surviving are two brothers, Jeromy Michael Rowan of Churchville, and Tyler Scott Reed of Waterford, Ohio; step-father, Chris Reed of Waterford, Ohio; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Ann Droppleman Rowan of Churchville; paternal grandparents, Shirley Beckwith Moody of Waldeck; paternal great-grandmother Madeline Moody of Pricetown; companion Tina K. Jordan and two children Shelby Sprouse and Kailee Jordan, all of Camden; aunts and uncles, Sis and Scott Moddy Bean of Martinsburg, Sam and Gerriann Moody of Winfield, Teresa and Fabian Boltralik of Beckley, Joann and Ralph Lewis of Terra Alta, Debbie and Jeff Combs of Bakers, Karen and Paul Dawson of Indianapolis, Ind., Patrick and Terra Rowan of Weston and Barbara and Jim Lattea of Weston; several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert L. Moody, paternal great-grandparents, W. Lawrence Moody and Grover and Beulah Beckwith.
Jason was employed at Swisher Feed in Weston. He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting and riding 4-wheelers.
He was a member of Pricetown VFD.
Friends were received at the Boyle Funeral Home of Weston on Sunday, January 8 and on Monday at the church.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday from the St. Boniface Catholic Church with the Reverend Father George Manjadi as celebrant and the Reverend Martin Wine.
Interment followed in the Snyder cemetery at Churchville.
A prayer service was held on Sunday at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel.

Emma Teresa Moran
Emma Teresa Moran, 72, of 543 Court Avenue, Weston, died at 10:55 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2006 in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston following a brief illness.
She was born in St. Clara in Doddridge County on July 28, 1933: daughter of the late Henry and Emma (Maybury) Droppleman.
On February 11, 1956, she married John Robert "Bob" Moran, who preceded her in death on August 10, 1992.
Teresa is survived by two sons, Stephen and John Moran, both of Weston; five daughters, Mary Beth Stanton of Salem, Janice McCarty, Judy Stewart, and Pat Goldsmith, all of Weston, and Teresa Jo Ray of Fairmont; 11 grandsons and 9 granddaughters; one brother, John Droppleman of Fayetteville; two sisters, Veronica Keaton of Beckley and Mary Louise Weber of Weston; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Moran was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Kraus and two brothers, George and Raymond Droppleman.
Teresa was a 1951 graduate of Doddridge County High School and a former C. & P. Telephone Company employee. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters Court Victory #379, and the President of Theresa Snaith Auxillary.
Friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Wednesday, January 11 from 2-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 12, from St. Patrick Catholic Church of Weston at 11 a.m. with Father Jeremiah McSweeney as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. A Rosary will be conducted on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

Goldie Gustavia Osborn
Mrs. Goldie Gustavia (McCray) Osborn, 75, of 1158 US Highway 33W, Weston, died at 12:23 a.m., on Saturday, January 7, 2006, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston following an extended illness.
She was born in Lewis County on March 15, 1930, daughter of the late Robert Floyd McCray and Audra (Thompson) McCray.
On September 9, 1990, so married Harley Gerald Osborn, her loving husband, who survives.
Also surviving are one sister, Laura Katherine (McCray) Byrd of Weston, several nieces and nephews, and two special nieces, Kathy Ruppert and Elaine (McCray) Daughtery, and one special nephew, Randy McCray. She is also survived by a special friend Wanda McHenry, special caregivers, and her loving dog, Cindy.
Mrs. Osborn was a homemaker. She was a member of the Waldeck United Methodist Church of Weston.
Mrs. Osborn was cremated and a memorial service will be held at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Saturday, January 14, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Russell Furr officiating.

Donald Lee Pieper
Donald Lee Pieper, 74, of 377 Simpson Run Road, Weston, died at his residence Monday, January 2, 2006, at 9:30 a.m.
He was born in Watertown, Wisconsin, on October 8, 1931, the son of the late Gilbert and Dorothy Zielsdorf Pieper.
He was married to Phyllis Tomes who was the daughter of Ruth Tomes Pitzer, both are deceased.
He is survived by one daughter, Toni Lee Pieper, also of Simpson Run, Weston.
Mr. Pieper was a retired Dock Foreman for Advance Transportation Trucking Co. of Milwaukee, Wisc., a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the United States Air Force.
There will be no visitation and a burial will be in the Broad Run cemetery at a later date.

Robert Wayman Riffle
Robert Wayman "Bob" Riffle, II, 60, of Route 1 Box 150, Bluefield, departed this world on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, to join his Heavenly Father following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was home with his loving wife of 33 years, Judy, by his side.
Bob was the son of the late Dr. Robert "Wayman" Riffle and Ina Beckner Riffle. He was an only child, thus the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Bob was a 1963 graduate of Northfolk High School and attended V.P.I., Bluefield College and graduated from Bluefield State College. He completed several masters level courses.
Bob grew up in the Northfolk Baptist Church where he was an active member, serving as a deacon, choir member, assistant youth leader and holding various other positions. He was currently a member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Bluefield, Va. where he participated in the church choir, former softball team and other functions.
In the 60s, Bob was employed by Gianato Pontiac-Buick in Northfolk prior to them transferring him to Welch where he served as service manager. He started working for the McDowell County Board of Education in 1973 where he taught Automotice Technology at the McDowell County Vocational Tech Center until he retired in 2001. During his teaching career he led many of his students in participating in automotive skill competitions, where many of his students won the state competition and represented the state of West Virginia in the national competitions. He was once the McDowell County Vocational Tech Center teacher of the year.
He was an outdoors person who loved hiking, backpacking and 4-wheeling. He was one of the founders of the W.V.A.T.V. Association and served as president. He was on the Board of Directors of the Pinecrest Resort in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and served as president of this association. He was an active member of the Pocahontas Chapter of the Norfolk and Western Historical Society. He was an avid model railroader, specializing in the history of the Norfolk and Western Railway. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of the N&W Railroad, lecturing at annual conferences of the N&W Historical Society and serving as consultant to many interested in the N&W Railway's steam era.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judy Weidlich Riffle of Bluefield. He was the son-in-law of Robert J. and Mabel See Weidlich, formerly of Roanoke.
A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005 at the Memorial Baptist Church in Bluefield, Va., with the Reverend Lacy Brooks officiating.

Noah Patrick Rowan
Noah Patrick Rowan, infant son of James William Rowan and Maria Victoria Lopez Rowan of 115 Court Street, Jane Lew, died at birth on Thursday, January 5, 2006 in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston.
Surviving are two brothers, Andrew Steven and Dylan James Rowan; maternal grandparents, Celso and Guadalupe Lopez of Oakland, Maryland; paternal grandparents, James and Martha Rowan of Sassafras Run; paternal great grandmother, Mabel Donaldson of Jane Lew; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside rites were held on Saturday, January 7, from the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Boyle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Kendall Starr Crane
Kendall Starr Crane, infant, of 100 Rowgh Lane, Camden, died Friday, January 13, 2006 at Ruby Memorial Hospital of Morgantown.
She was born January 13, 2006, in Morgantown, the daughter of Paul and Cathy M. McClain Crane.
She is survived by her brother, Aaron Crane, at home, and her paternal grandmother Ella Crane of Bluefield.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Woodrow Woodman Crane and maternal grandparents Delbert Paige McCalin and Elsie Pauline Riffle Blake.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, from the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel of Weston with Reverend Ressie Robinson and Wilma Jackson officiating.
Interment followed in the Burnsville I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Dana Lance Francis
Dana Lance Francis, 82, of 310 Saul's Run Road, Weston, died on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born in Roanoke on February 14, 1923; son of the late Willie Andrew Francis and Reka Brent (Lance) Francis.
On August 8, 1945, he married Martha Luella (Hull) Francis, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Leona B. Swisher and husband Wilbur of Weston, and two sons and daughters-in-law, Dana Francis, Jr. and wife Jean, and Eugene K. "Beau" Francis and wife Brenda, both of Horner. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Melissa Swisher Jordan, Timothy Lane, Jeffrey Lane, Gregory Lane, Amanda Francis and Kevin Francis; two great grandchildren, Matthew and Brooklyn Lane; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Francis was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy L. Lane, one brother, Garland C. Francis, one sister, Juanita F. Berry, and one grandchild, Aaron Francis.
Mr. Francis retired in 1985 from Cohart Refractories, where he become a Class A mechanic, certified electrician, machinist and certified welder. He graduated from Walkersville High School in 1941. Mr. Francis loved fishing, model airplanes and woodworking. He was a Protestant by faith.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Thursday, January 19. Funeral services were held on Friday from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Verl Simmons officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
