Willis Richard Tharp
Willis Richard Tharp, 77, of Lost Creek, died September 1, 2006, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center at Clarksburg.
He was born at Clarksburg October 19, 1928, a son of the late Clifford Goff and Lillian Kenney Tharp.
He was married June 1, 1951, to Barbara Prince, who survives.
In addition to his wife, surviving are one daughter and husband, Cynthia Lee and husband Robert F. Graham of Madison, Alabama; one brother and wife, Chester Kenney and wife Carol Tharp of North View; one aunt, Hallie Rose Vieth of Lost Creek, with who they made their home; several nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Tharp was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge at Mt. Clare. A graduate of Victory High School in 1946, he attended West Virginia University, Fairmont State College, and Blue Ridge Community College in Charlottesville, VA. He was a department store manager for Watts-Sater Lears, Parson Souders and L.S. Good. He was in advertising for the Exponent-Telegram and Daily Progress in Charlottesville, VA, where he won both state and national awards while working for both newspapers.
He was a member of the Harrison County Community Chorus, was a noted tenor soloist for several churches in the Clarksburg area and a member of the Lost Creek United Methodist Church.
He had sold insurance for Metropolitan Insurance Company and was a member of A.A.R.P. A member of the American Legion and the Sons of the American Revolution (in process). He was also a sergeant in the National Guard.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 21, at the Lost Creek Brick Church cemetery at 1 p.m. with Chaplain Ryan Wagers officiating. Burial will be in the Lost Creek Brick Church cemetery.
Morris Funeral Home of Jane Lew is in charge of the services.

Kevin Ross Bartholomew
Kevin Ross Bartholomew, age 43, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. During his final days he was lovingly cared for by his sister, Janine Dawn Voros in her home in Chandler, AZ. He was born Dec 11, 1963 and was a life long resident of AZ. Kevin was employed by Shaffer’s Welding Shop in Phoenix and enjoyed fishing, boating and camping. He is survived by his mother, Nancy Ann Davis and step-father, Teddy F. Davis of Horner, WV; sister, Janine Dawn Voros and brother in law Erwin Voros of Chandler, AZ; step-sisters, Sheila Green, Doris Allevato, Lavonne Sparks and Teddie Steiding of Clarksburg, WV. He is also survived by his grandmother Grace Bartholomew of Mesa, AZ; nieces, Heather Bartholomew of Clarksburg, WV; Emily (Boo) Voros, of Chandler, AZ and Stephanie Parson of Veneta, OR; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Richard Bartholomew; sisters, Cara Jean Bartholomew and Marla Jo Parson; paternal grandfather, Richard Bartholomew and maternal grandfather Alex Douville and grandmother Betty Douville. A visitation will be held Tuesday May 22, 6-8 PM with Rosary at 7:00 at Bueler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Dr., Chandler, AZ. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Wed. May 23, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 230 W. Galveston St., Chandler followed by burial at City of Mesa cemetery.

Eleanor Murphy Bennett
Eleanor Murphy Bennett, 86, of 124 1st Street, Weston, passed away at 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2007, in Crestview Nursing Home of Jane Lew following an extended illness
She was born in Clarksburg on August 30, 1920, daughter of the late Edward A. Murphy and Margaret (Rush) Murphy.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by two daughters, E. Denise Fenton of Weston and Margaret Ellen Kervin of Camarillo, CA; two sons, Bradley Bennett and wife Janet of Spring, TX, and Tim Bennett and wife Diane of Weston; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Kathryn, Agnes and Margaret “Peg,” and eight brothers, James, Chuck, Ned, Gene, Joseph, Richard, Patrick and William.
Mrs. Bennett was a retired glassworker from the Colonial Glass Factory of Deanville. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Weston. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Avenue, Weston, on Sunday, May 20, from 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at 2 p.m. from St. Bernard Catholic Church at Loveberry with Father Jeremiah McSweeney as celebrant. Interment followed in the St. Bernard Church cemetery at Loveberry. Rosary was conducted on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. from the funeral home chapel.

Blaine Engle
Blaine Engle, 91, of Jane Lew, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2007, in the United Hospital Center.
Mr. Engle was an Insurance Agent, having retired in 1985.
He was born in Glenville on November 5, 1915, a son of the late Robert B. Engle Sr. and Alma Whiting Engle.
Twice married, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Yvonne Engle and also his second wife, Eleanor June Lowther Engle.
Surviving are one son, Robert Engle and his wife Barbara, Sandia Park, NM; one stepson, Richard Lowther and his wife Patricia, Good Hope; four grandchildren, Bryan Lowther and his wife Jennifer, Good Hope, Debora Lowther, Owings Mills, MD, Robert Matthew Lowther and his wife Cindy, Good Hope, and Jonathan Roy, Clearwater, FL; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Kensley Lowther, Marietta, OH.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, James Engle; one sister, Eileen Engle; and one stepdaughter, Nancy Roy.
Mr. Engle was a 1934 graduate of WVU and was Secretary of Company Mutual Fire Insurance Company. He was a member of Clarksburg Lodge No. 155 A.F.&A.M., a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason with membership in Clarksburg and Wheeling bodies, a member of the Nemesis Shrine of Parkersburg. He was a United States Air Force Veteran, a Lt. Colonel having served during World War II and having trained fighter pilots. Mr. Engle also enjoyed horseback riding.
A Graveside Service was held Saturday, May 19, at noon in the Good Hope Masonic cemetery.

Agnes Lucille Heater
Agnes Lucille Heater, 82, of Bens Run Road, Orlando, died at 7 a.m. Sunday, May 20, 2007, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston after a brief illness.
She was born July 12, 1924, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, a daughter of the late Addie Wheeler and Mae Adeline Finster Beall.
On December 17, 1941, she married Orie Stanton Heater, who preceded her in death on January 13, 1994.
She is survived by ten children, Orie Lee Heater of Orlando, James Elmer Heater of Weston, Linda Catherine Hutchison of Gulfport, MS, Joe Stanley Heater, Patrick Pete Heater, Mary Christine Heater, Charles Franklin Heater, Andrew William Heater, Jack Lynn Heater and Regina Ann Heater, all of Orlando; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Franklin Beall of West Milford; two sisters, Dortha Wilt of Kane, PA, and Illa Yates of Weston; and several nieces and nephews.
Her hobbies included cooking, sewing and working with flowers. Lucille loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was Methodist by faith.
Friends were received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Boyle Funeral Home of Weston. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Julius "Bo" Bounds officiating. Interment will follow in Weston Masonic cemetery.

Edna Eileen Lamb
Edna Eileen Lamb, 86, of Farmington, peacefully passed from this life with her family by her side at the Arbors at Fairmont Nursing Home, Friday, May 18, 2007
She was born in Lewis County on Feb. 4, 1921, a daughter of the late Jacob and Zeffie Keister Straley.
She was a member of the Adamston United Methodist Church. She retired as a seamstress from the Clarksburg Casket Company in Clarksburg. She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge, the 700 Club and was a current member of the Teamsters Union #84.
She enjoyed making quilts. She also enjoyed cooking and family gatherings.
Mrs. Lamb is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gene and Anthenia Lamb, and Jacob Lamb, all of Fairmont; two daughters and one son-in-law, Dixie Burner of Bridgeport, and Paula and Duane Looman of Farmington (with whom she made her home); one sister, Virginia Lois Bush, of Barberton, OH; 11 grandchildren, Gene Edward Lamb II and wife Kelly, Jamie Morgan and husband Scott, Gregory Lamb, Jimmy Lamb and wife Kara, Joshua Lamb, Kurt Burner and wife Dori, Trudy Parker and husband Tim, Joseph Burner, Sondra Vukelja and husband Stephen, Howard D. Looman II and wife Tina, and Susan Banus and husband Brian; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Lamb, on June 26, 1986; 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
It was Mrs. Lamb’s request that her body be cremated.
Friends may call at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Ave., Weston, Saturday, May 26, from 10 a.m.-noon. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home at noon. Interment will follow at the Weston Masonic cemetery.

Maysie Louise McWhorter
Maysie Louise Morris McWhorter of Route 3, Lost Creek, Duck Creek Community, died at her home after a lengthy illness
She was born December 22, 1928, in Lewisburg, WV, and was raised in and around Staunton, Va.
She was married November 19, 1952, to James G. McWhorter, who survives.
In addition to her husband she is survived by one son, David and his wife Dianne McWhorter of Duck Creek Road; one daughter, Cathy and her husband John Weber of Wellsburg, WV; granddaughters, Erin and husband J.T. and son Blake Bowers, and Ashley and husband Jeff and son Hunter Foster; grandson, Ryan McWhorter; several in-laws; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Carrie and Okey Ramsburg, brother and sister-in-law, George William Ramsburg and Lenna Ramsburg Carroll.
Mrs. McWhorter was a longtime Sunday school teacher at the McWhorter United Methodist Church. She was a longtime member of the Grant Valley Home Extension Club, a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.
Friends were received at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, Sunday afternoon from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were held at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, Monday morning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Charles Madaus officiating. Burial followed in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Claude Ray Morgan Jr.
Claude Ray Morgan Jr., age 74, of Clarksburg, WV, departed this life on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, in the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Hospital, Clarksburg.
He was born in Clarksburg, WV, on May 8, 1933, a son of the late Claude Ray Morgan Sr. and Minnie (Bailey) Morgan.
Surviving are a son, John Morgan and his wife, Megan, Jane Lew, WV; two sisters, Olive McKeever, Hot Springs Village, AR, and Carilla Marsh, Mapleview, WA; one grandson, Nicholas; and an aunt, Nan Marchinchin, PA.
Mr. Morgan was a Methodist.
He was a retired truck driver.
Mr. Morgan was a graduate of Bristol High School and Salem College. He also was a member of the Salem Lions Club. Mr. Morgan served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
There is no visitation or service. Interment will be in the West Virginia National cemetery, Taylor County.

George D. Scott
George Denzil "Tom" Scott, 90, a resident of Braxton County Health Care Center, Flatwoods, passed away in the VA Hospital in Clarksburg, May 17, 2007, after a brief illness.
He was born at Troy, the son of Howard James and Dorcas Othelia Riddle Scott, November 15, 1916.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Wilda Marguerite Keister; six brothers, Thomas C., Rusell P., Howard Hale, Paul C., Harold L. and James Richard Scott; four sisters, Nellie Woofter, Floral Lee Scott, Mary Marguarite Adams and Lucille Perine; and one son, Robert Blair Scott.
He is survived by one sister, Annabelle Brake, Fredricksburg, MD; four sons, Thomas Michael, Denzil Dean "Danny" of Battle Creek, MI, George Randolph of MI, and Timothy Douglas of FL; three daughters, Debra Kay, Kimberly Jean of FL, and Sally Marie; two sisters-in-law, Joy Scott, Belington, and Geraldine Scott, Weston; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was a Protestant by faith. He was baptized by immersion November 2002.
He was enrolled in CCC in 1938.
During WWII he served in the United States Army for five years. While in the Army he spent much time in England.
After the war, he was a real estate agent in Michigan for several years before returning to his native state of WV.
He was an avid reader who loved current events, a genealogist and historian. He was one of the early members of the group - Hacker's Creek Pioneer Descendants of Horner.
A memorial service is planned to be held, with military honors rendered by the WV Honor Guard of Kingwood, at the Lewis County Senior Center on June 2, at 11 a.m.
Rev. Kenneth Miller of First Baptist Church of Weston will be officiating.
At his request, his body was donated to West Virginia for research. Cremation will follow.

Ronald Clyde Smith
Ronald Clyde Smith, 91, Weston, departed this life at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born May 23, 1915, at Roanoke, a son of the late David and Mary Bennett Smith.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harley and Woodrow Smith; one sister, Goldia White; one half brother, Weese Davis; and one half sister, Quincey Pratt.
He married the former Mildred McClain, who survives in Weston.
Survivors include one son, Ronald C. Smith Jr. and wife Nancy of Good Hope; one daughter, Alicia A. Dominguez and husband Matthew of Denver, CO; three grandsons, Olen Ronald Kline and David Kline, both of Denver, CO, and Randy Kline of Fairfax, VA; one stepgrandson, Chris Dominguez of Denver, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
Clyde was a graduate of Walkersville High School and Beckley Career College, Beckley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a tank driver during World War II. He was employed for many years by the West Virginia Division of Highways as a heavy equipment operator and later retired from the Lewis County Board of Education as a building maintenance mechanic. Early in his career, he worked as a coal miner.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston and the DAV.
Friends were received from 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 18, at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Avenue, Weston.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Russell Furr and Reverend Kenneth Miller officiating. Interment followed in the Broad Run Baptist Church cemetery, Jane Lew. Full military honors will be rendered by the West Virginia Honor Guard, Kingwood.
