He and his wife, Marguerite Golden Woolwine, who died in 1999, lived for many years in Charleston, in Weston, and in Ocala, FL. After his wife’s death, he moved to Danbury, CT, to be near his daughter and son-in-law.
He was born in Elkins, the son of the late Murel and Ethel Mouse Woolwine.
His two sisters, June Woolwine Hyson and Eileen Woolwine Conway Young, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Woolwine was educated at Elkins High School, Davis & Elkins College where he majored in music, and the Charleston School of Commerce. He worked in accounting for the Buffalo Creek and Gauley Railroad, in Clay County, in the late 1930s and early 1940s before changing to a sales career, from which he retired in the 1970s.
He was an avid reader and an accomplished musician, being an especially fine trumpet player. He was proud of being a 50 plus year York Rite Mason, a member of Beni Kedem Temple and a long-standing member of the Beni Kedem Gold Band in Charleston. He was still playing taps at military funerals at age 83. Around that time, he played taps for the funeral of a young state policeman in Parkersburg who was killed in the line of duty. Throughout their lives, Mr. and Mrs. Woolwine were known for helping those in need and for rescuing animals. They were always active in PTA and in the Stonewall Jackson High School Band Boosters while their daughter attended school there, and later were very supportive of her college activities. They were member of Christ Church Methodist in Charleston and later St. Matthew Methodist Church in Weston.
His daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Woolwine Pattie and Barton Pattie, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, and several nieces, nephews and cousins survive him.

Main Avenue, Weston, on Monday, May 21, from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday following visitation from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Jonathan Nettles of St. Matthew’s Methodist Church and Reverend Harold Elmore, former associate pastor of Christ Church Methodist and former pastor of St. Matthew Methodist Church, officiating. Weston Lodge No. 10, A.F.&A.M. conducted graveside rites.
In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate contributions in Mr. Woolwine’s memory to the Shriner’s Transportation Fund which provides food, lodging and transportation for patients and families going to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals in Lexington, KY and Cincinnati, Ohio.
