Mary Catherine Chapman
Mary Catherine Chapman, 77, of 216 Pleasant Drive, Weston, departed this life at 8:52 p.m. on Friday, September 21, 2007, at her home following a long illness.
She was born in Weston on November 10, 1929; a daughter of the late Paul J. and Mabel Louise (Nixon) Whelan.
She was married to Edgar Lee Chapman on April 17, 1949, by Rev. Howard L. Wilfong at the Broad Street United Methodist Church of Weston.
Mary Catherine is survived by her husband, Edgar L. Chapman. She is also survived by one son, Randall L. Chapman and wife Carol of Jane Lew; and one daughter, Susan A. Daugherty of Parkersburg. Also surviving are two grandsons, David Allan Chapman and wife Amanda of Winchester, Va., and Christopher L. Chapman of Jane Lew; and one granddaughter, Lindsey Erin Daugherty of Morgantown. Mary Catherine is also survived by one sister, Pauline Jo Kurtz and husband Dave of Weston; her sister-in-law, Ruth G. Finster; brother-in-law, Lawrence Chapman and wife Dale; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Whelan and one brother, Dannie Paul Whelan, who passed away on October 19, 1995.
Mrs. Chapman was a lifetime member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church of Weston, with a strong Christian faith. She graduated from Weston High School with the Class of 1947. She worked at the Weston Democrat for 34 years, retiring in May of 1991.
By prior request, Mrs. Chapman will have no visitation or services. She will be interred on the Chapman plot in Peterson cemetery in Weston.

George Goe
George Goe, 79, of Sebring, Florida, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2007, in Sebring.He was born November 10, 1927, to Dorval D. and Madge (Houghton) Goe in Charleston, and had been a resident of Sebring since 1987, coming from Hallandale, Florida.He was a Computer System Analyst and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. He was a member of Weston Masonic Lodge No. 10 in Weston, and Christ Fellowship Assembly of God in Sebring.He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sims Goe, Sebring; daughter and son-in-law, Robin J. and Stan Leib, Hilliard, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.A Memorial Service was held on Sunday, September 23, at 10 a.m. at Christ Fellowship Assembly of God, Sebring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 7156, Sebring, FL 33872-0103. Cremation arrangements were handled by Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, Sebring, Florida 33870; (863) 385-0125.

Gladys Marie Holden
Gladys Marie Nicholson Holden, 89, of Valley Chapel Road, Weston, Jackson’s Mill community, died at 10 p.m. September 20, 2007, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home, Jane Lew.She was born November 11, 1917, in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Clark M. and Mary P. White Nicholson.She was married to Harris W. Holden, April 12, 1933, who died September 13, 2003.She is survived by one son, John C. Holden, and his wife, Donna, of Jane Lew; two daughters, Roberta R. Lamb of Jane Lew and Mary V. Devericks of Tulsa, OK; one sister, Mary B. McClain of Salem; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Harry Lamb and William Devericks; and three sisters, Retha B. Devericks, Virginia Fern Cumpston and Frankie A. MiddletonMrs. Holden was retired from Jackson’s Mill 4-H Camp, where she worked in housekeeping. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.Family and friends were received Sunday afternoon from 1-2 p.m. at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew. The casket was closed, and funeral services were held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Russell Furr officiating. Burial followed in the Broad Run cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Broad Run cemetery Association, Rt. 2, Jane Lew, W.Va. 26378.

Larah Gracie Burgett
Larah Gracie Burgett, infant daughter of Amber Nicole and Joshua Thomas Burgett of Weston, died early Friday morning, September 28, 2007, at WVU Children's Hospital, Morgantown, of heart complications.
Although Larah was only 5 weeks and 2 days old when she went to Heaven, she made a tremendous impact on everyone who met her.
She was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents, Eugene and Betty Frame and Porter and Maude Tinney; and paternal great-grandparents, Lee Quinton and Juanita Mae Stutler Burgett.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Billy C. and Madeline Hurst of Weston; paternal grandparents, John and Tammy Burgett of Weston; paternal great-grandparents, Roy and Wanda Strickland of Frametown; aunts, April Hurst of Weston and Jeanna Burgett of Weston; uncles, Tim and wife Kerstin Hurst of Germany, Mark Hurst of Washington state, Nathaniel and wife Molly Burgett of Morgantown, Micah Burgett serving with the U.S military and Caleb Burgett of Weston; cousins, Mark Andrew Hurst of California and Maeghan Shayne Hurst of Weston; and many nurses and doctors at WVU Children's Hospital of Morgantown, who were great friends.
Friends were received at the Boyle Funeral Home of Weston on Sunday, September 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel of Weston with Reverend David Riddle and Reverend Phil Wilson officiating. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew.

Alma Peters Collins
Alma Peters Collins, 98, of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, September 25, 2007, at Paula's Personal Care Home, Buckhannon, following an extended illness.
She was born July 31, 1909, in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Albert and Clara David Peters.
She is survived by ons son, Harley B. Collins of Buckhannon; one daughter, Helen L. Burkhammer of Buckhannon; three brothers, Earl Peters of Sand Fork, Jimmy Peters and Albert Lynn Peters, both of Bedford, Ohio; one sister, Betty Phillips of Twinsburg, Ohio; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Roy C. Collins, on September 3, 1956; two brothers, Alton Peters and Alfred Peters; and two sisters, Delma Ford and Alrene Peters.
Alma loved to quilt and garden, was Protestant by faith and a member of the MIles Chapel Church, Pricetown.
Friends were received at the Boyle Funeral Home of Weston on Friday, September 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Martin Wine officiating. Interment followed in the Peterson cemetery, Weston.

Roger W. Cottrill
Roger W. Cottrill, age 85, of Canton, Ohio, died Monday September 24, 2007 in the Windsor Medical Center.
He was born July 10, 1922, in Weston, to the late Wayne and Anna (Gum) Cottrill.
Roger was a WWII Army veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a Canton area resident since 1945 and retired from Canton Drop Forge.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Sue Cottrill; one brother, Ernest Cottrill; two sisters, Mary Margaret Morrison and Madeline Gordon.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Sharon Cottrill of Mississippi; one daughter, Sharon Cottrill of Alabama; one brother, Kenneth Cottrill of Weston; nieces, a nephew and one great-niece.
Funeral services were Friday September 28, at 1:00pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home with Rev. Delaney Young officiating. Interment followed in Sunset Hills Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association at 6100 Rockside Woods Blvd, suite 260, Independence, OH 44131. Martin Matthew Fahey, M.D.
Martin Matthew Fahey, M.D., 94, of Glenview, Ill., passed away at home Saturday, September 29, 2007, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born on May 13, 1913, in the rural farming community of Fink Creek Road in Lewis County, and was raised on the family farm near Weston. After graduating from the University of West Virginia, he went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Chicago (Rush Medical School) and trained in general surgery at the Mayo Clinic.
From 1945-47, he served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He opened a medical practice in 1949 and, in the mid-1950s, joined his brothers and other physicians in establishing the Fahey Medical Center in Des Plaines. He practiced medicine for 45 years, serving at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Holy Family in Des Plaines and Lutheran General and Resurrection Hospitals in Park Ridge. During that time, he served as chief of staff and chief of surgery at Holy Family and St. Francis hospitals. He retired from practice in 1988 at the age of 75.
Martin was a loving husband, a caring father and a dedicated physician. His faith and his family were the fabric and foundation of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Donna (Thompson); and eight children, Sharyn of Wyoming, Minn., Barbara of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Mary Ellen (Mike) Morrison of Helena, Mont., Martin Jr. (Peggy) of Grand Haven, Mich., James (Susan) of Glenview, Ill., Debralyn of Glenview, Ill., Diane (Paul) Alston of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dawn Hayes (the late Christopher) of Glenview, Ill. "Papa" will be fondly remembered by his twelve grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Madonna; a grandson, Kevin; by his parents, Thomas and Mary Ellen of Weston; and his brothers and sisters, Patrick, M.D. (the late Nell), Margaret, George (Mildred), John, M.D. (Victoria), Thomas, Mary and Joseph, D.D.S.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 4, from 4 to 9 p.m. at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, Glenview, Ill. (just south of Lake Ave. on west side). Funeral from the funeral home Friday, October 5, 9:30 a.m. to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Glenview, Ill., for Mass at 10 a.m. Interment at All Saints cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Misericordia, 6300 N. Ridge Ave., Chicago, IL 60660.

Dorthie M. Fultineer
Dorthie M. Fultineer, 75, of Weston, WV, died September 23, 2007, at her residence.
She was born April 16, 1932, to the late John and Una Bell Hall.
She formerly lived in Webster County and lived in Weston since 1969. She enjoyed gardening, bird and animal watching and spending time with family.
She is survived by her daughters, Eloise (Tony) Cowgar of Diana, Catherine Tenney of Weston, Marie Myers of Corey, PA, Selva (Chester) Mick of Martinsburg; sons, Charles (Barbera) Brooks of Colfax, NC, Donald (Beatrice) Brooks of Diana, Golden Hamrick of Weston, Daniel Hamrick of Weston, Jay (Velvet) Fultineer of Weston; grandchildren, Christopher, Crystal, Buddy, Mary and Okey Brooks, Sharon Bibb, Bendetta Crouse, Tonya Cowgar, Marty and Joe Tenney, Tina Myers, Brittany and Cierra Mick, Timothy Hamrick, Matthew and Zachary Wright; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley and Janet Brooks and Delia Ruth Treciak.
Besides her parents she is also preceded in death by her husbands, Okey Brooks, Acil Hamrick and Dan Fultineer; children, Okey Brooks and Francis Brooks; grandchild, Melissa Wilkins; sisters, Lily Brooks, Violet Carpenter, Estie Hall, Rosie Hall; and brother, Frank Hall.
Funeral services were held at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, on September 27 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Curt Davis officiating. Burial was held at Big Run cemetery, Diana. Visitation was September 26, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Annabelle M. Grogg
Annabelle M. Butcher Grogg died Sunday, September 30, 2007, at her residence in Pricetown following a brief illness.
She was born December 26, 1919, in Skin Creek, Lewis County, a daughter of the late Scott V. and Grace Smith Butcher.
She was preceded in death on March 1, 2007, by her husband, Leonard L. Grogg. She and Leonard had been married for 61 years.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Judith Marie Grogg; one brother, William Butcher; and two sisters, Virginia Lough Foster and Agnes Allman Matheney.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was employed by both Louie Glass of Weston and Lewis County Glass Company of Jane Lew. She attended Good Hope Tabernacle, Buckhannon.
Annabelle enjoyed gardening and working. She loved being with her family.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia A. Coberley and husband Burley of Buckhannon; two sons, Donald P. Grogg and wife Deanna of Buckhannon and James L. Grogg and wife Mary of Parkersburg; two granddaughters, Amanda Grogg of Gainesville, Fla., and Ashley Howell and husband Terry of Webster Springs; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, at Boyle Funeral Home of Weston. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 4, at Boyle Funeral Home Chapel of Weston with Reverend Holly Hoover officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew.

Wilda M. Kelley
Wilda M. Kelley of Woodstock, Ga., formerly of Weston, died at 9:03 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2007, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born March 12, 1927, a daughter of the late Harper and Virginia Blanche Nesselrote McCombs.
Mrs. Kelley was a member of Woodstock United Methodist Church. She owned and operated her own restaurant.
She is survived by her husband, Howard F. Kelley of Woodstock, Ga.; one daughter, Deborah A. Bentley of Kennesaw, Ga.; one brother, Robert James McCombs of Ravenswood; two stepsons, Rodney Kelley and Dennis Kelley, both of Morgantown; three stepdaughters, Joy Pierce of Grafton, Brenda Sharpe of Roanoke and Karen King of Morgantown; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Visitation was held Sunday, September 30, from noon until 4 p.m. at Woodstock Funeral Home, Woodstock, Ga. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Woodstock Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Nathaniel Long officiating.
Local visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, at Floyd Funeral Home of Weston. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at WV National cemetery in Grafton.

Agnes Lamb
Agnes Lamb, 90, of 401 East Olive Street, Bridgeport, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2007, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born in Copley in Lewis County on November 29, 1916; daughter of the late Levi Smith and Bertie (Moneypenny) Smith.
On October 21, 1935, she married Olie Lamb, who preceded her in death on January 4, 1988.
Agnes is survived by one daughter, Frances Kaye McQueen and husband Wilbur of Bridgeport. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Becky Crutchfield and husband Steven, Bill McQueen and Don McQueen and wife Connie; and eight great-grandchildren, Bethany Ann and Nathan Crutchfield, and Casey Jo, Whitney Lynn, Bradley, Brian, Darren and Sara McQueen.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Smith Peters Clark; and one nieces, Helen Peters Hunsinger.
Mrs. Lamb was retired from the service personnel of the Lewis County School System. She was a member of the Beall's Mills United Methodist Church and the Jane Lew Fire Department Auxiliary.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Tuesday, October 2, from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Conrad Tenney and Reverence Jeff Zickefoose officiating. Interment will follow in the Rock Grove cemetery of Linn.

Vicki D. McCartney
Vicki D. McCartney, age 52, of Buckhannon, died Friday, September 28, 2007, at Holbrook’s Nursing Home.
She was born October 30, 1954, in Lewis County, a daughter of Harley Collins of Buckhannon and the late Emma Belle “Kitty” Lamb Collins.
In February of 1977, she married Howard J. McCartney, who preceded her in death on July 31, 2001.
In addition to her father, she is survived by aunt, Helen Burkhammer of Buckhannon and several other aunts and uncles.
Vicki was a nurses aide at Holbrook’s Nursing Home and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Friends were received Sunday, September 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home of Buckhannon. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard McGuire officiating. Burial followed in the Peterson cemetery at Weston.
