Mary Emma Smith Skinner
Mary Emma Smith Skinner of Orlando, died January 16, 2008, at Holbrook Nursing Home, Buckhannon. She was 91.
Mrs. Skinner was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church. Throughout her life she worked as an educator in West Virginia and the southern states of Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland.
She graduated from Flora McDonald Presbyterian College in Red Springs, North Carolina, in 1938 and went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Virginia in 1959.
In Lewis County, she taught at Walkersville Jr. High School, and also served as principal of Walnut Grove and Roanoke Elementary. She completed her remaining 45 years of teaching at Braxton County High School.
Mary Emma was the daughter of Reverend Roy Smith and Annie Sloop Smith.
She was born on July 26, 1916, in Mooresville, North Carolina.
The eldest of six children, she is survived by her brothers, Dr. Eustace Smith of Crossnore, North Carolina, Newton Smith of Roanoke, Virginia, and Rev. Franklin Smith of Hermitage, Tennessee.
Preceding her in death were brothers Guerrant and Nelson Smith.
She married Minter Perry Skinner on June 16, 1955, and enjoyed 29 years of marriage until his death in 1983.
Mary Emma is also survived by her daughter, Mary Perry Skinner Miller and two grandchildren, Megan Annie Miller Snyder and Morgen Matthew Miller of Buckhannon.
Arrangements have been made with Floyd Funeral Home in Weston. Family received visitors from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, January 18. A Memorial Service was held at St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Weston at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 19.
At Mary Emma’s request, in keeping with her lifelong dedication to teaching, her body has been donated to West Virginia Human Gift Registry.

William R. Workman
William R. Workman, 65, of Rt. 1 Roanoke, passed away at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, in Holbrook Nursing Home of Buckhannon, following an extended illness.
He was born in Weston on October 24, 1942; son of the late James Workman and Meda (Harris) Workman.
Mr. Workman is survived by three sons, James Scott Workman and William D. Workman, both of Weston, and William R. Summers of York, Pa.; one daughter, B.J. Summers of Buckhannon; and four grandchildren, Peyton W. Workman, Brittany Summers, Bill Summers and Brooke Summers. He is also survived by three brothers, Gary Workman of Walkersville, Roy Workman of Buckhannon and Howard Workman of Smoke Camp; one sister, Patty Jo Charlton of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Workman was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior and Eddie Workman.
Mr. Workman was a truck driver for Wilson Trucking and the Pettito Brothers. He was a veteran of the 82nd Airborne of the Air Force during the Vietnam era.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Saturday, January 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Wease Day officiating. Interment followed in the Orlando cemetery of Orlando.

Norma L. Graham
Norma L. Graham, 73, of 3359 Jesse Run Road, Jane Lew, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2008, at her residence, following a sudden illness.
She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 13, 1934; daughter of the late Adolph Hesler and Arietta (Burch) Hesler.
Mrs. Graham was a beloved mother and grandmother of four children, one daughter-in-law and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Graham was a retired retail manager.
At Mrs. Graham's request, there will be a private funeral service held at the convenience of the family.
Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston is in charge of arrangements for the Graham family.

Rex Lynn Jacobs
Rex Lynn Jacobs, infant son of Jacky Lynn Jacobs Jr. and Crystal (Blake) Jacobs of Weston, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2008, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston on February 18, 2008.
Also surviving are grandparents, Rex and Tina Thompson of Weston and Donna Hanline of Buckhannon. In addition, Rex is survived by great-grandparents, Betty Ingram of Berlin, Harley and Karen Thomason of Elkins, Sally Freeze of Weston and Robert and Virginia Richards of Kincheloe. Also surviving are four aunts and one uncle, Jennifer Lemons, Jessica Chester, Jana Jacobs, all of Buckhannon, Buffy Blake and Steven Maxwell of Weston. Rex is also survived by several family and friends.
Rex was preceded in death by one sister, Grethel; one grandfather, Jacky Jacobs Sr.; and great-grandparents, Robert and Grethel Blake, Ollie Ingram and John Simmons.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Thursday, February 21, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12 noon from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Hal Hevener officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove cemetery of Goosepen.

William Anthony Kafer
William Anthony Kafer, 87, of 116 Brown Avenue, Weston, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2008, in Crestview Manor Nursing Home of Jane Lew following an extended illness.
He was born in Morgantown on March 20, 1920, the eighth son of the late John and Alice Kafer.
Mr. Kafer married Bobbie Jeffries, who preceded him in death on August 28, 1981. On November 28, 1988, he married his present wife, Eleanor Epps Kafer.
Surviving is one daughter, Jackie Lynn Kafer of Wheeling.
Also surviving are his brother, Randolph, and wife May; nephews, Rudolph and his wife Carol, August and his wife Debby, John Gary and his wife Donna.
Mr. Kafer had one stepdaughter, Kristin Morris, and her husband Michael; two stepsons, Gregory Epps and his wife Julie and Jonathan Epps and his wife Jennifer. Step-grandchildren are Morgan, Michael and Reese Morris, and Willis and Spencer Epps.
Preceding him in death were six brothers, Ernest, August, Otto, Karl, John and Joseph.
Mr. Kafer served four years in the U.S. Navy and was co-owner of Skinner’s Grill of Weston. He graduated from Glenville State College and received his master’s degree from West Virginia University. He taught school in Fayetteville, NC; taught French and math at Lewis County High School, as well as being a football coach.
Mr. Kafer retired from the administrative office of the Lewis County Board of Education. After retirement, he was elected to the Lewis County Commission, held office for Criss Manor, belonged to the Weston Lions Club, East Lewis Lions Club and the American Legion. Mr. Kafer was also a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church of Weston. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, camping and fishing.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, Weston, on Sunday, February 17, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Monday at 10 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel, with Reverend Jonathan Nettles officiating. Interment followed in the Weston Masonic cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 1299 Pineview Dr., Suite 3, Morgantown, WV 26508.

Norma Jean Losh
Norma Jean Losh, 73, of 236 Brook Street, Weston, passed away at 6:25 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, in Grafton City Hospital, following an extended illness.
She was born in Weston on August 12, 1934; daughter of the late Richard and Mary Ann Straley.
On November 16, 1962, she married Walter Brooks Losh, who preceded her in death on June 26, 2004.
Mrs. Losh is survived by one son, Wayne A. Lost of Weston. Also surviving are one brother, Cecil Straley of Camden and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Ruble.
Mrs. Lost was a psychiatric aide at Weston State Hospital for 35 years. She was a Protestant by faith.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, Weston, on Thursday, February 14, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Funeral services were held on Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Clifford West officiating. Interment followed in the Peterson cemetery of Weston.

Robert Lee Smith
Robert Lee Smith, 87, of Buckhannon, and formerly of Melvindale, MI, died on February 11, 2008, at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI, after a long struggle with cancer.
Mr. Smith was born on March 25, 1920, in Crawford, to the late Jasper and Vernia Smith (Sanders).
His twin brother, Richard; sisters, Jessie and Ruth Hefner; and brothers, George, Ralph, Clyde Smith, all preceded him in death.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha (Woofter), who he never stopped loving for a moment. He is also survived by son, Jack (Janet) Smith of Clifton, VA; and his loving daughter, Karen (Larry) Krot of Canton, MI; and his stepdaughter, Mary Maday of Wheatland, WY. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kristin (Randy) Brady of Brighton, MI, Michael (Sarah) Krot of Plymouth, MI, Jennifer Krot of Canton, MI, and Erica Shadler of Colorado. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Smith had many nieces and nephews and loved them all, however, he carried a special place in heart for Mary (Russell) Rittenhouse of Weston, and Lee (Penny) Hefner of Horner – both of whom provided much appreciated love and support through the years.
Mr. Smith was a proud WWII veteran, having served for three years with the 34th “Red Bull” division of the US Army. He often told stories of the action he saw in Algiers and Tunisia in Africa as well as major battles at Salerno, Cassino Pass, and Anzio. He was decorated with several medals and a Purple Heart. After the war, Mr. and Mrs. Smith moved to Michigan where he worked as a pipefitter at the Marathon refinery in Detroit for 34 years. He remained a true patriot throughout his life and was active with veterans groups, participating in parades and assisting with military burials.
Mr. Smith was an extraordinarily kind and gentle man that was never heard to raise his voice in anger, to speak ill of others, or to complain about tough circumstances. He was dedicated to his family and country, and had a work ethic that few today would recognize. His life will serve as an example to his family for many years to come.
Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon handled arrangements for Mr. Smith.

Leland Loyle (Tink) Waugh Sr.
Leland Loyle (Tink) Waugh Sr., 73, of 3335 Copley Road, Weston, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2008, at 3:12 a.m. in United Hospital Center of Clarksburg following an extended illness.
He was born in Upshur County on August 15, 1934, son of the late James Ezra Waugh and Lucetta (Gregory) Waugh.
On April 25, 1955, he married Freda Ann (Burkhammer) Waugh, who survives.
Mr. Waugh is also survived by two daughters, Debra Barnhart and husband Trinity of Prosperity and Vickie Breese and husband Jeff of Claysville; and three sons, Steven Waugh and wife Becky and William Waugh, both of Claysville, and Leland L. Waugh Jr. of Weston. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Todd Sibert and wife Leigh of Jefferson, William Sibert and wife Korene of Canonsburg, Nicole Ward of Prosperity and Jeffrey Breese and wife Sarah of Dormont; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan and Taylor Sibert of Waynesburg and Reily Sibert of Canonsburg. He is also survived by two brothers, Jim Waugh of Jane Lew and Hartzell Waugh of Weston; one sister, Dencie Moneypenny of Weston; and several nieces and nephews.
Leland was preceded in death by two brothers, twin brother, George Waugh and Bob Waugh.
Mr. Waugh was a steelworker in Washington, Pa. He was a Methodist by faith.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, Weston, on Friday, February 15, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Clifford West officiating. Interment followed in the Weston Masonic cemetery.

Donald Lee Wilt
Donald Lee Wilt, 68, of 321 North River Avenue Weston went home to be with the Lord and his grandparents on September 1, 2007 at 11:37 from his home.
Mr. Wilt was born August 28, 1939, in Lewis County. He was raised by his grandparents, Oren and Jesse Wilt of Copley.
He was a Protestant by faith and a member of F.O.E. #2481.
Mr. Wilt’s total active service was 2 years. He also served in Korea for 1 year and 16 days and was stationed in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina and trained in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mr. Wilt’s specialty and title was Military Police. He was a Sharp Shooter with a M14 Rifle and an expert with Pistol Point 45.
His last assignment and major command was 138th MP Co. in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, 3d USA.
Mr. Wilt worked at the Louie Glass for 30 years. He was a grounds-keeper at Peterson cemetery for 25 years and worked at the Weston State Hospital for 10 years.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Michelle Lee Sprouse.
On April 18, 1977 he married Barbara Lee (Sellers) Wilt, who survives in Weston.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one brother, Brian Wilt of Baltimore, MD: three daughters, Barbara Kay Miles and husband Ron of Pennsylvania, Diana Marlene Nelson and fiancé Michael Stephens of Texas, and Renea Wilt of Jane Lew; two sons Mark Wayne Wilt and wife Tina of Parkersburg and Charles Edward Sellers and wife Sherry Ann of Jane Lew. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, Jesse, Anna, and Abby Wilt, Brandy, Charla and Chelsea Sellers, Travis and Brooklyn Richards, Whitney Sprouse, Austin Nelson, Preston Posey, Ryan and Renee Wilt; three great-grandchildren Jazilyn and Takiha Sellers and Hayden Jones. Also surviving are six step grandchildren, Lori and Joni Kyer, Jimmy Hendricks, Mike and Michelle Miles, and Ashley Foster; three step great-grandchildren, Sabrina and Makayla Bunnell and Shayla Queen; one niece Sherry Wilt; and one nephew Brian Wilt, Jr. of Baltimore, MD.
Mr. Wilt enjoyed hunting with his best friend, Blair Turner, also known as Spike. In Don’s heart Spike was like another son to him.
He also enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling and boating with his grandchildren and spending time with his family.
Above all, Donald L. Wilt was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and father-in-law, whom will be sadly missed.
Mr. Wilt was a donor of the West Virginia Gift Registry in Morgantown. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday March 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Kevin Metz officiating. Fellowship time will be provided from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00p.m. on Saturday. Military honors will be presented by the Lewis County Honor Guard, from the funeral home chapel.

Maxine Wise
Mildred Maxine Ball Wise, 88, of Rt. 2 Jane Lew, Good Hope community, died February 17, 2008, at her home.
She was born September 21, 1919, at Stumptown, Gilmer County, the daughter of the late Howard and Flora Boone Ball.
She was married to Charley Wise, who preceded her in death on March 23, 1970.
She is survived by one daughter, Charlotte Wise Heater and her husband Earl of Rt. 2 Jane Lew, Good Hope community; two sons, Charles Howard Wise of Fredericksburg, VA, and William Ronald Wise and his wife Sherry of Walnut Grove, GA; one sister, Hope Moore of Pomroy, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Chuck Wise, Chris Wise, Lisa Wise, Linda Wise, Cindy Barkwell and Amy McCord.
Mrs. Wise graduated from Normantown High School with the Class of 1937 and West Virginia Business College in 1942 with a business degree. She was a member of Good Hope Chapter No. 109 Order of Eastern Star. A member of New Bethel United Methodist Church and a member of WSCS of the church, and was member of the church choir and was Baptist by faith.
Private visitation and funeral services for the family only will be at the Morris Funeral Home of Jane Lew.
