Cecil Sherman Taylor
Cecil Sherman Taylor, 92, of the Bendale/Homewood community, passed away at 10:25 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, in Heartland of Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
He was born in Roanoke, on November 22, 1916; son of the late Clarence Avha Taylor and Nettie Lee (McCord) Taylor.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was married to Kathlyn (Williams) Taylor on June 26, 1935; who preceded him in death July 27, 1997.
Mr. Taylor is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Swisher and husband Robert Lynn of Weston; and one daughter-in-law, Lois Taylor of Ft. Myers, Fla. Also surviving are six grandchidren, Kathy Swisher Gibbs and husband Scott of Belpre, Ohio, Janet Swisher Mullooly and husband Kevin, Alicia Swisher Poloka and husband Chuck, and Tammy Bollinger Taylor, all of Weston, Steve Taylor and wife Patti of Chesterfield, Va., Lois Ann Taylor Carnes and husband Rex of Gastonia, N.C., and Timothy Taylor of Charleston. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, Josh Swisher and wife Annica, Zachary Poloka, Jaret and Joe Bob Mullooly, Matthew and Karli Gibbs, Justin Taylor, Jessica and Heather Carnes, Amanda, Jennifer and Matthew Taylor, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by one son, Austin Herbert Taylor; one grandson, Jeffrey "Jeff" Austin Taylor; five brothers and seven sisters.
Mr. Taylor was a former employee of Lewis Motor Sales and retired from WV Department of Highways as a mechanic. He loved to work on cars, play solitare, sit on his porch and watch the birds and squirrels and talk to his neighbors. He was a wonderful Dad and loving grandfather. He was a veteran, serving as a private first class in the United State Army during WWII.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Saturday, December 6. Funeral services were held on Sunday at 3 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Carolyn Nettles officiating. Interment followed services at the Weston Masonic cemetery. Lewis County Honor Guard provided full military honors.

Max Turner Casto
Max Turner Casto, 88, of Moss Point, Miss., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at his residence. He was born July 25, 1920, in Weston, to Max Wilfred Casto and Eva Jane Turner Casto.
Mr. Casto graduated from Weston High Schol and became an on job trainee in a Dental Lab in Richmond, VA. He was a veteran of U.S. Army Air Corp having served during WWII and transferred to Keesler Air Force Base during his service. He managed the Dental Lab at the Keesler Air Force Base. After receiving his honorable discharge, he started his business in 1947, Casto Dental Lab in Pascagoula, until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Casto was a member of First Baptist Church in Pascagoula and the Adult Six Co-Ed Sunday School Class. He was a past member of Lion's Club and former District Director of Boy Scouts. He was also a member of Mississippi Dental Laboratory Association and National Dental Laboratory Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Karen Jane Hansford.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 yeras, Mary Casto, Moss Point; two sons, Max Keith Casto and wife, Cheryl, Moss Point; John Edward Casto and wife, Cindy, Weston, West Virginia; daughter, Sarah Ann Lawson and husband, Kris, Friendswood, TX; son-in-law, Don Hansford, Gautier; brother, John Lane Casto and wife, Ann, Glenwood, W. Va; nine grandchildren, Christi Hansford McMillian (Justin), Randy Hansford (Jennifer), Kevin Casto (Jackie), Lesley Casto, Mary Beth Bennett, Bryan Vargo (Jody), Stephen Vargo (Jennifer), David Vargo (Sabrina) and Jennifer McDonald (Matt); step-grandson, Shawn Casto; numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 11, at the O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula, Miss. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 12, at First Baptist Church in Pascagoula with Rev. Dennis Ray Smith and Dr. Jay Cook officiating. Friends were received one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment was at the Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Baptist Church in Pascagoula, Miss.

Mark P. Coplin
Mark P. Coplin, 46, of Weston, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2009, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following a battle with cancer.
He was born on August 1, 1962, in Clarksburg, a son of Pauldin G. and Shirley Jane (Bonnell) Coplin of Valley Chapel.
On June 9, 1984, he married Lee (Byrd) Coplin, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Taylor Brooke Coplin, at home; one sister, Debra S. Coplin Alfred and husband Michael of Weston; and three nieces, Courtney L. Gissy Moore and husband Jerry and son “Trey” of Spartanburg, S.C., Tyressa J. Rohrbough of Weston and Stephanie Alfred of Grantham, New Hampshire.
And also surviving are mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Byrd (Loy and Janette) of Deerfield; sister-in-law, Susan Byrd-Marth and husband Bill of Waxahachie, Texas; and several aunts and uncles.
Mark was employed with the NICS Division of the FBI and had worked at the Alkahn Label Factory of Weston for several years. He was a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was assistant superintendent.
Mark loved to weld, do electrical work and was a member of a photography club in Clarksburg.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, Weston, on Tuesday, January 20. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel, with Reverend Russell Furr and Reverend Kenny Kendall officiating. Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Mary Stapleton, 3645 Old Mill Road, Weston, WV 26452.

Betty June Current
Betty June Current, 81, formerly of Weston, died Sunday, January 18, 2009, at the Rosewood Center, Grafton, following an extended illness.
She was born September 1, 1927, in Simpson, a daughter of the late George P. Myers and Chloe B. Phillips Myers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Storm Wine; and ten brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one son, Charles L. "Chuck" Current and wife Barbara of Ft. Washington, Md.; one daughter, Linda Kraus and husband Pat of Weston; four grandchildren, James J. "J.J." Current and wife Karen of Annandale, Va., Tracy Wine and husband Jack, Kimberly Brady and husband Doug, Leslie Cutright and husband Dwain, all of Weston; four great-grandchildren, Katrina Wine, Christopher Hall, Michael Hall and Noah Cutright, all of Weston; two step grandchildren, Keith and Casey Brady; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Betty worked at the Weston G.C. Murphy for 23 years and then retired from the Weston State Hospital as the head of housekeeping with 13 years of service.
She was a member of the Weston First Baptist Church and Delta Sunday School class.
An avid crafter, she could always be found at the Jane Lew Labor Day Weekend craft show.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, at Boyle Funeral Home of Weston. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 22, at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Russell Furr officiating. Interment will follow in the Walnut Grove cemetery, Taylor County.

Ferne Halterman Dennison
Ferne Halterman Dennison, 94, of 650 Craig Street, Weston, passed away at 5:05 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston, following a brief illness.
She was born in Lewis County on November 28, 1914; daughter of the late Mary Dale (Halterman) Stoneking.
Ferne is survived by six nieces, Ann Greer, Mary Joiner, Patricia Helmick, Delores Bonnell, Glenda Stout and LaDonna Sprouse; two nephews, Charles "Ron" Halterman and Terry Halterman; several great-nieces and nephews and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hayward Ray Halterman and Denzil Wayne Halterman; and three nephews, James Halterman, John "Joe" Halterman and Donald L. Bland.
Mrs. Dennison retired from Weston State Hospital as a psychiatric aide. She was a member of the Freemansburg United Methodist Church for 77 years and later a member of the Miles Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Willing Workers of the church. Ferne was also a member of the Theresa Snaith Auxiliary of Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston with 7135 volunteer hours (most ever) and was a member of the Fernleaf Rebekah Lodge #81 of Berlin.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Friday, January 16. Funeral service were held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Martin Wine officiating. Interment followed services in the Freemansburg cemetery of Lewis County.

Eugenia Faye Limparis
Eugenia Faye Limparis, 90, of Weston, WV, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, in St. Clair Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, following a brief illness.
She was born September 14, 1918, in Auburn, WV, daughter of the late George W. and Laura Jane (Garrison) Adams and sister of siblings, Billy Eugene Adams of Hopewell, VA and Virginia Adams and Katy Vanderpool of Weston, who all preceded her in death.
Mrs. Limparis was a 1936 graduate of Harrisville High School and later graduated from Glenville State College (BA-Education and Music) and West Virginia University (MA-Education). She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a teacher’s honor society. A school teacher for over 40 years, she began her teaching career in a one room school at Smith Run, WV. She served as a Ritchie County elementary music teacher and finished her teaching career in Maryland as an elementary school music teacher. Mrs. Limparis retired to Weston where she continued to teach music privately until July 2008.
Eugenia was an accomplished musician and served as church organist in Maryland and also at the First Baptist Church in Weston. She enjoyed animals, playing the piano, cooking and gardening. She is survived by brother, George W. Adams Jr. of McMurray, PA and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, Weston, on Saturday, January 17. Funeral services were held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Weston with Reverend Kenneth Miller officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Union cemetery of Doddridge County.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.

Kenneth C. Romel
Kenneth C. Romel, age 57, of Lightburn Acres, Jane Lew, departed this life at 9:28 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2009, in CAMC, Charleston, following a brief illness.
He was born March 1, 1951, in Riverside, Calif., a son of the late Wilma Jenkins Romel and James E. Romel, who survives on Olive St. in Weston.
Kenny was a graduate of Lewis County High School Class of 1970; former employee of the WV Dept. of Highways; he was a lifetime member of the Lewis Co. EMS; lifetime member of the NRA; President of the Ellis Race Club; and a Baptist by faith.
On November 8, 1974, he was married to Shelia Cross Romel, who survives at their Lightburn Acres home.
Surviving is one son, Kenneth James Romel and wife Ronda of Jane Lew. Four grandchildren survive: Shiana Elizabeth Star Pennington of Belington; Michael Austin Romel, Jane Lew; Stephen Thomas and Robert Matthew Romel, both of Gassaway. Two sisters and two brothers survive: Sue Williams and husband Johnny of Melbourne, Fla., Denise Ellyson and husband Terry of Glenville, Jack L. Romel of Orlando, Fla., and John Romel and wife Pat of Weston. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kenny was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Romel in August 1998.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 23, at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston with Rev. Ron Beeson officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. Glenville is assisting the family of Kenneth C. Romel with arrangements.

James Edward Slaughter Sr.
James Edward Slaughter Sr., 84, of Weston, passed away at 3:15 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2009, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston, following an extended illness.
He was born in Weston on March 13, 1924; son of the late Homer Slaughter and Anna (Williams) Slaughter.
On October 11, 1947, he married Betty Lee (Butcher) Slaughter, who survives.
Mr. Slaughter is survived by one son, James Edward Slaughter Jr. of Cobbs Creek, Va.; three grandsons, Matthew, David and Timothy Slaughter; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Carl Slaughter of Weston; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Slaughter; and one sister, Opal Ware.
Mr. Slaughter was employed by Weber's Dairy for 21 years and retired from the State 4-H Camp at Jackson's Mill as the senior maintenance worker with 26 years of service. He was a member of the McCann's Run United Methodist Church, where he served as church greeter.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Tuesday, January 20. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Becky Van Stavern officiating, assisted by Reverend Carl Van Stavern. Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Jane Lew.

Tracey D. Spaur
Tracey D. Spaur, age 93, died Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon.
He was born May 8, 1915, at Duffy,a son of the late Frank and Grace McCutchan Spaur.
He was united in marriage on September 26, 1942, to Maude Steerman Spaur, who preceded him in death on August 20, 2007.
He is survived by two brothers, Frankie Spaur of Walkersville and Ernest Spaur of Louisa, Va.; two sisters, Helen Pearson of Va., and Hilma Louise Wynkoop of Fla.; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Astor, Randall, Ross, Bill and McCutchan Spaur; and two sisters, Geneieve McCutchan and Ruth Garcia.
Tracey was the former owner of Tracey Spaur Tire Shop in Clarksburg for 35 years. He was a member of the Bridgeport UM Church.
Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, January 23. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 24, at the Ireland UM Church, where he will lie in state from 12 noon to 1 p.m., the funeral hour with Dr. Tracey E. Spaur officiating. Interment will follow in the McCutchan Chapel cemetery.

Colene Boggs
Colene Boggs, 98, of Pricetown, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2009, in Crestview Nursing Home after an extended illness.
She was born August 21, 1910, in Cox’s Mills, Gilmer County, to the late Manna Deco Reed and Effie (Lipscomb) Reed.
She married Andrew (Don) Donzel Boggs on September 7, 1940, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by a sister, Wanda Mae Posey and a special sister-in-law, Ethel McKeown of Barberton, Ohio. Also surviving are 4 nephews, Leonard Posey of Weston, Dickie Hinzman of Linn, Vic and John Reed of Cleveland, Ohio; great-nephews, Jock Hinzman of Linn and Jason Posey of Weston; great nieces, Dawn (Hinzman) Wine of Weston, Stephanie Jan (Hinzman) Ingram of Clarksburg and Anna Posey of Fairmont; great-great-nieces, Tara Wine of Glenville and Whitney Wine of Weston; great-great-great-niece, Phoebe.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Avery and Hays Reed; and 3 sisters, Fleta Bailey, Rella Hinzman and Nella Kirkpatrick; a niece, Sue (Bailey) Raber; and 2 nephews, Jack and Joe Reed.
Colene attended a one room schoolhouse in Gilmer County, Mound Run.
She worked at the Weston Laundry, Goodyear Rubber in Akron, Ohio, during World War II, and retired from the Weston State Hospital with 27 years of service.
She was a faithful member of Broad Street United Methodist Church for many years.
She enjoyed family and friends, crocheting, reading her Bible and caring for many relatives including her husband’s nephew, Clifford Boggs whom she raised as a son and preceded her in death. His children, Andy Boggs of Kingwood, Ann Hammond and Debbie Brake of Charleston survive.
She will be sadly missed by all.
Friends were received Thursday, January 22, at Boyle Funeral Home, Weston. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 23, at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Hal Hevener and Reverend Hugh Murphy officiating. Interment followed in the Weston Masonic cemetery.
