Marjorie Zoe Dewey
Marjorie Zoe Courtney Dewey of Criss Manor, Weston, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, with her brother, Tom and nephew, Jim at her side.
Marjorie was born November 2, 1935, in Good Hope, the only daughter of the late Carl Keith Courtney and Elizabeth Lillian Harris Courtney.
Her husband, George Dewey preceded her in death in 1988.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Courtney and Charles Ray “Sleepy” Courtney; two sisters-in-law; and grandparents, Ken and Martha Courtney.
She is survived by two brothers, Thomas E. Courtney and companion Barbara Setliff of Jane Lew, and William E. Courtney and wife June of Good Hope; nieces and nephews, Daniel Paul Courtney, Bill Courtney, Paula Beth Murphy and husband Rick, Mickey Courtney, Jim Courtney and wife Julie, Tammy Brown and husband Mike, Tim Courtney and wife Michelle; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; special cousin, Pauline Hickman; and friends, Joe and Beverly Butcher and son, Ray and Sue Swiger, Manoka and Jack Smith, Kevin and Dee Swiger and sons.
Marjorie had worked at the former Good Hope Market, Jackson’s Mill and Lewis County Glass prior to her marriage.
She was very active in Lewis County Senior Citizens and the Democratic Party in Lewis County, serving several years on the Lewis County Executive Democrat Committee.
She was a member of the New Bethel United Methodist Church, Good Hope, and graduated from Unidis High School, West Milford, in the class of 1953.
Friends were received Friday, January 23, at Boyle Funeral Home, Weston. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Boyce officiating. Interment followed in the Good Hope Masonic cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, Rt#1 Box 149, Lost Creek, WV, 26385.

Mary Jo Edwards
Mary Jo Edwards, 78, of 346 Mid Avenue, Weston, formerly of 140 Minnich Street, passed away at 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston, following an extended illness.
She was born in Weston on December 6, 1930; daughter of the late Perry Milletus West and Pearl (Marsh) West Clifton.
On January 22, 1954, she married Lee J. Edwards, who preceded her in death on July 9, 2000.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by two daughters, Sharon and Nancy Edwards of Weston.
Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker. She was a member of the Victory Assembly of God of Weston.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Friday, January 23. Funeral services were held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Russell Gatian officiating. Interment followed services in the Machpelah cemetery of Weston.

Moody James Goff
Moody James Goff of 436 Main Avenue, Weston, WV passed away on January 27, 2009 at his home following an extended illness. He was born on Muddy Creek Mountain in Greenbrier County, WV on September 9, 1928: son of the late Moody James Goff, Sr. and Mary May Goff.
He is survived by his wife, Mona Margret Goff, whom he married on June 26, 1968. Also surviving are four step children: Patricia Hammer and her husband Glenn W. Hammer of Ft. Myers, FL; Carolyn Bennett and her husband Larry Bennett of Weston, WV; Norval Goe and his wife Mary Lee Profy of Olympia, WA; William Goe and his wife Jackie of Weston, WV. Also surviving are seven step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one step grandson, Michael Tad Bennett.
Mr. Goff worked for the State of West Virginia for seventeen years and was a part owner and Administrator of nursing homes in West Virginia and North Carolina. He had been employed as an Adjunct Professor at the Lewis County Branch of Fairmont State University and had been working for the City of Weston writing grant applications.
He graduated from Hinton High School in Hinton, WV and received a Masters Degree from Marshall University in Huntington, WV. He was a veteran of WW II and served 25 months in the US Navy aboard 2 light cruisers, the USS Manchester CL 103 and the USS Wilkes Barrie CL 83.
Mr. Goff had many hobbies that included weight lifting and physical training. He especially liked to work on his lawn and landscape, which he considered the best in Weston. He was a devout Presbyterian for 75 years of his life and a member of the Masonic Lodge and Bene Kedem Shrine Temple of Charleston, WV.
A private memorial service is to be planned at a later date at the convenience of family members.
Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston is in charge of arrangements for Moody James Goff.

Mildred F. Riddle
Mildred F. Riddle, 81, of 735 Wolf Pen Road, Weston, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2009, in Crestview Manor Nursing Home of Jane Lew, following an extended illness.
She was born in Lewis County on April 22, 1927; daughter of the late Vincent and Ruth (Bowen) Burkhammer.
On July 3, 1951, she married Earnest Ray Riddle, who preceded her in death on June 23, 1974.
Mrs. Riddle is survived by one daughter, Janet L. Brown of Weston; one sister, Helen Riddle of Weston; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Agnes Jo Burkhammer, Hilda Burkhammer, Mary Hefner and Ethel Metz; and two infant brothers.
Mrs. Riddle was a glassworker with the Louie Glass Factory of Weston. She was a member of the Bealls Mill United Methodist Church.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Sunday, January 25. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend David Riddle officiating. Interment followed in the Harrison Grove cemetery of Lewis County.

Madalyn Sholes Anderson
Mrs. Madalyn Sholes (Maddy) Anderson, of Leland, N.C., passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at Woodbury Wellness Center, Hampstead, N.C.
She was born in Alice, W.Va., on November 17, 1920, the daughter of the late Carres M. and Theora M. (Heckert) Lockard, and was preceeded in death by her husbands, Harold Sholes and John Anderson.
Madalyn was a member of the Waldeck United Methodist Church of Pricetown, and was a retired receptionist in the health care industry.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Welborn of Leland, N.C., and Susan Rowland of Hampstead, N.C.; a sister, Elnora Smith of Wilmington, N.C.; a brother, Roy Lockard of Weston; also two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were conducted Saturday, February 21, at 4:00 p.m. at Woodburn Presbyterian Church, Leland, N.C., with Rev. Claude Gamble.
A service of Village Road Memorial Chapel, 525 Village Road, Leland, NC 28451.

Rebecca Jane Fisher
Rebecca Jane Fisher, 41, of 2062 US Highway 33W, Pricetown, passed away at 6:33 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston, following a brief illness.
She was born in Lewis County on July 18, 1967, daughter of Linda Sue Fisher of Weston.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by partner William Richard Riffle of Pricetown. Also surviving are two daughters, Kristol Dawn Riffle of Pricetown and Jessica Nicole Riffle of Burnsville, and one son, Johnathan Scott Riffle of Pricetown. In addition to her children, she is survived by one grandchild, Nicholas Andrew Fraley and one sister, Melissa June Fisher of Weston.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Wayne Fisher.
Rebecca worked at the Western Steer Steak House and the Super 8 Motel, both of Weston. She was a graduate of Lewis County High School of Weston with the Class of 1986 and was Methodist by faith.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Thursday, February 19. Funeral services were held on Friday at 11 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Becky Van Stavern officiating. Interment followed services in the Peterson cemetery of Weston.

Larry John Lunsford
Larry John Lunsford, 60, of 1704 Straight Run Road, Alum Bridge, passed away at 9:53 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at his residence, following a brief illness.
He was born in Weston on December 2, 1948; son of the late John Brenne Lunsford and Bonnie Leone (Lattea) Lunsford.
On March 28, 1970, he married Rosalie (Parker) Lunsford, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Larry G. and Gary R. Lunsford, both of Alum Bridge; one sister, Fay Leona Blake of Weston; and several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lunsford was preceded in death by one sister, Mavis May Lunsford.
Mr. Lunsford was a truck driver for Miller Supply Company and worked for Savin Brothers on road construction, when I-79 was being built. He also worked for Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew. Larry was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a private first class in the United States Army, where he received a Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation Badge, Overseas Service Bar and Sharpshooter. He loved to hunt, fish and just about anything outdoors.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Friday, February 20. Funeral services were held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Clifford West officiating. Interment followed in the Rock Grove cemetery of Linn. The Lewis County Honor Guard conducted full military honors at the cemetery.

Eleanor Ruth Mace
Eleanor Ruth (Lease) Mace, 89, of 65 Gaston Street, Weston, passed away at 12:13 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009, in Ruby Memorial Hospital of Morgantown, following an extended illness.
She was born in Friedens, Pa., on February 25, 1919; daughter of the late John O. Lease and Minnie Pearl (Coleman) Lease.
Mrs. Mace was married to Harry B. Mace, who preceded her in death on March 2, 1976.
Mrs. Mace is survived by one daughter, Sue Ellen Daugherty and husband Vernon of Buckhannon; and one son, Joseph Lease Mace and wife Paula of Horner. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Joseph Adam Mace, Errika Marie Mace, Justin Bradford Mace, Christopher Wesley Daugherty, Kari Ann Daugherty and Bradford John Daugherty; three great-grandchildren, Aiden Joseph Mace, Kirsten Marie Mace and Kadie Jo Daugherty; one sister, Maxine Lape of Somerset, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dawn Kathleen Mace; one brother, Vernon Lease; and four sisters, Beulah Wasconia, Olga Cargill, Mabel Rovnyak and Edna Montgomery.
Mrs. Mace was a graduate of Conomaul Valley Nursing School of Pennsylvania. She was a registered nurse and floor supervisors at John Hopkins University Hospital. While she was there, she was a member of the National League of Nursing Education.
Mrs. Mace was baptized at St. Marks Evangelical Church of Somerset, Pa., and was a member of the Stonecoal United Methodist Church of Weston.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Saturday, February 21. Funeral services were held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Stephen White officiating. Interment followed services in the Weston Masonic cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eleanor Ruth Mace Scholarship through the Lewis County Education Association and donations may be sent to the United Bank, care of Kim Gum, P.O. Box 470, Weston, WV 26452.

Alma G. Petry
Alma G. Petry, 86, of Cairo, died Feb. 19, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Parkersburg.
She was born Aug. 29, 1922, at Exchange, the daughter of the late James and Mary Cutlip Perkins.
Mrs. Petry worked on aircraft as a Rosie the Riveter during World War II, as a clerk at Berdine’s Variety Store in Harrisville, and at the Ft. Myer Army Post Exchange in Arlington, Va. She was a member of Hughes River Presbyterian Church, Cairo.
She is survived by a daughter, Nelma Jo McCutcheon and husband Edward of Elizabeth; a son, James M. Petry of Cairo; sister, Marie Rhoades of Leesburg, FL; brother, Rev. Earl Perkins of Vienna; four grandchildren, Sumali Sangkasaba and husband James Kozloski of New Fairfield, CT, Jennifer Petry of Cairo, James G. Petry of Youngstown, OH, and Aaron McCutcheon of Elizabeth; and seven great-grandchildren, Stella, Isabel, Anna and Roman Kozloski of Connecticut, Zach and Annah Foster of Cairo, and Kaden McCutcheon of Pt. Pleasant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James S. Petry; daughter, Joyce Petry; brothers, Richard, Bruce, Roy, Myrl and Leon Perkins; sister, Erma Lester, and grandson, Jeremiah Petry.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Feb. 23, at Raiguel Funeral Home, Cairo, with the Rev. Daniel Simmons officiating. Burial followed in the Cairo IOOF cemetery. Friends were received at the funeral home Sunday and Monday.

Joseph F. Boyers
Joseph F. Boyers, 68, of 209 John Street, Weston, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital unrepentantly. He was born in Morgantown, WV on February 2, 1942: son of the late Charles Boyers and Clara (Haun) Boyers. On September 14, 1999 he married Shelia Renae (Burkhammer) Boyers who still survives.
In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by four daughters, Joyce Ann Eagle and Richard of Walkersville, Joann Boyers, Lisa Renae Boyers, and Kimberly Michelle Boyers, all of Weston. Also surviving are two brothers, David Boyers of Glenville, and Jim Boyers of Morgantown; two sisters, Edna McHenry of Glenville, and Ruth White of Ohio. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Chris Riddle and Christine; sister -in-law, Melissa Wilson and fiancé Lenny Oleson; mother-in-law, Linda Riddle and Kenneth; friends, Lelah Ocheltree and Ann Straley.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was proceeded in death by one brother, Charles Boyers; and two sisters, Louise McHenry and Irene Buckodich.
Joseph was retired from the natural gas industry where he worked for Gas Pipeline Services. Mr. Boyers enjoyed cruising around in his car and spending time with his family.
Family will receive friends at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 North Main Avenue Weston on Saturday, February 6, 2009 from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Ronnie Beeson. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew.
