Jack and Bettie Thompson
Bettie J. Thompson, 75, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 9, 2011.
She was born in Sand Run. She was a graduate of Weston High School, Class of 1952.
Jack Thompson, 78, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, June 26, 2011.
He was born in Weston. He was a graduate of Weston High School, Class of 1954.
They lived in Ohio most of their lives. They loved to travel, spend time with friends and family and caring for their dog, Tootsie.
They are survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Miller; a son, John (Lisa) Thompson; three granddaughters, Brittani and Brooke Miller and Nicole Thompson. Bettie's brothers, Dayton Hinkle of New York, Harry Hinkle of South Carolina; and sister, Sharon Burgess of Montana. Jack's sisters, Tina Block of Washington and Rose Derrow of Ohio.
Memorial services for both Jack and Bettie will be held at New Baltimore Community Church, July 7. Will receive friends starting at 5:30 p.m. and the celebration of life will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Roy M. "Tom" Waugh
On June 29, 2011, Roy M. "Tom" Waugh went home to the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Glea Brannon Waugh, whom he married on November 27, 1963.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Romel and Maxine Waugh.
Tom was born January 4, 1924, to John and Lulu Barker Waugh.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Gambier Bay which was sunk in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 25, 1944. His career was spent working for the West Virginia Glass Company, the Colonial Glass Company and he retired from Louie Glass in Weston. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston.
He is survived by his children, LaDonna (Phil) Clemmer of Elkview, Joseph "Brother Luke" Waugh of St. Meinrad, Ind., and Edward (Amy) Waugh of Morgantown; his sisters, Beulah (Bob) Bush of Martinsburg, Margaret McClain of Fostoria, Ohio, and Thelma (Del) Freeman of Pittsburgh, Pa.; his grandchildren, Emily (Nathan) Newman of Charleston, and Mackenzie and Ethan Waugh of Morgantown; and his great-grandchildren Sydney and Jodie Howerton, and Cadence and Cashton Newman.
A memorial service was conducted at the First Baptist Church of Weston by Rev. Kenneth Miller on July 5, at 11 a.m. The family received friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to People's Hospice, 3 Hospital Plaza, Suite 3S, Clarksburg, WV 26301 or the First Baptist Church, 132 E. 2nd St., Weston, WV 26452.
Hastings Funeral Home of Morgantown is handling the arrangements.

Joan Lee Bean
Joan Lee McCoy Bean, 70, of 1960 Stevens Mill Road, Goldboro, N.C., entered into eternal rest Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
A private service will be held at a later date.
She was born Aug. 10, 1940, in Weston.
She leaves precious memories with her beloved husband of 49 years, Robert Bean; three sons, Charles, Todd and Chris Bean of Goldsboro; one grandson, Dylan; three sisters, Norma Mazzie of Clarksburg, Carol Sutton of Goldsboro and Johnnie Mae Ashworth of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a special niece, Diana Mann (Marc); and a host of nieces nephews other loving relatives and friends.
A sympathetic and dignified service entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home, Goldsboro.

Dixon Leroy Brown
Dixon Leroy Brown, 72, of 716 Weston 2nd Street Weston, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2011, at 3:30 a.m. at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born in Falls Mill in Braxton County on January 3, 1939; son of the late Dixon L. Brown and Lavina (Smith) Brown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Rodney H. Brown, Clayton A. Brown; and two sisters, Louis Ann Riffle, and Christinia Warren.
Mr. Brown is survived by one daughter, Cheri Martin of Cleveland, Ohio; and one son, Gary Brown and wife Susan of Nokesville, Virginia.
In addition to his children, Mr. Brown is survived by four grandchildren, Caley and Deric Martin of Ohio and Tanner and Mason Brown of Virginia. Also surviving are brothers, Larry D. Brown of Weston, Roger O. Brown of Buckhannon, Dave M. Brown of Weston, Keith A. Brown, of Jane Lew; and one sister, Margret L. Shearer of Weston. Also surviving is former wife, Marcia Joan (Wright) Brown.
Mr. Brown served in United States Army Reserves. He retired after 49 years of services from Heil-Xeres and he also worked for Weston Transfer. Dixon was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, fish, doing yard work, gardening, and spending time with family.
Family will receive friends at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, 730 North Main Avenue Weston, on Wednesday, July 13, from 3-5 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dwayne Brown officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in honor of Mr. Brown to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Ronald Wymer Garton
Ronald Wymer Garton, 72, of Broad Run Road, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at 10:18 a.m. in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.
He was born February 5, 1939, in Jane Lew, a son of the late Brennie and Iris Wymer Garton.
He is survived by one sister, Helen Jett of Weston; four brothers, Jack Garton of Jane Lew, Bill and Dottie Garton of Red Lion, Pa., Rudy and Betty Garton of Sandusky of Ohio, and Eddie and Doris Garton of Sandusky, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.
Mr. Garton was employed by Red Prince's Gas Station, Minute-Man Muffler and had worked for Lovett's Drive In for several years. He loved his cat and his dog, Bear.
At the request of Ronald W. Garton, he will be cremated and there will be no visitation or services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ronald W. Garton to the Morris Funeral Home, P.O. Box 17, Jane Lew, WV 26378 to help with funeral expenses.

Ebert C. Heater Jr.
Ebert C. (Jack) Heater Jr., 87, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., passed away Friday, July 1, 2011, at the home of his son surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 15, 1924, in Burnsville, son of the late Ebert C. Heater Sr. and Voida B. (Weekley) Heater.
He graduated from Burnsville High School and received a bachelor's degree in business from the University of West Virginia.
He was married to Lucille (Lou) Bailey in Weston, on May 29, 1953.
Jack was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during WWII; he was a Yeomen First Class on the Destroyer Escort (DE) 173. He was retired from J.C Penney's Insurance Co. He was a lifetime member of the VFW post 1388 of Buckeye Lake, Ohio, member of The American Legion Post 0323, Moose Lodge 2266 and Elks Lodge 2602 of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Royal Order of Jesters, Court 008 of Columbus, Ohio, Shriners International of Fort Myers, Fla., The Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio, York Lodge 0563, Valley of Columbus Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Fort Myers, Fla., and a member of the United States Golf Association since 1997.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anna Lucille (Bailey) Heater of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; daughter, Lisa (Mike) Horne, Slidell, La.; son, Keith (Carrie) Heater, Millersport, Ohio; brother, Jerry Brown, Sutton; sisters, Wanda L. Hall, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Barbara Bragg and Lamona Casto, Burnsville, Hilda Flint, Good Hope, Pam Cuppari and Debra Elmore, Buckhannon, Shirley Stalnaker, Warrenton, Va.; grandchildren, Braden (Amy) Moore and Arelle (Daniel) McDonald; and five great-grandchildren, Delaney, Sadie, Landon, Jack and Max.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry Heater.
No calling hours will be observed per Jack's wishes. Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Central Ohio in his memory.

Robert F. Lovett
Robert F. Lovett, 85, of 213 Burnside Ave. Weston, died at 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2011, in the United Hospital Center in Clarksburg following a brief illness.
He was born in Clarksburg, January 24, 1926, a son of the late Robert O. Lovett and Maude Gum Lovett.
On January 1, 1948, he married the former Margie Mae Butcher who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Robert "Linda" Wyatt of Akron, Ohio, and four step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two infant siblings.
Mr. Lovett was the retired postmaster of the Camden Post office with several years of service and was owner and operator of Lovett Store at Camden for several years.
He was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church where he served on various offices.
He was an active member of the Lewis County Senior Center and drove Meals on Wheels for 10 years.
He was a 50 year member of the Weston Lodge # 10 A.F.&A.M., where he was also a former treasure, member of the St. Johns Commandry # 8 Knights Templar where he served as treasure, Scottish Rite of Clarksburg, Nemsis Shrine Temple of Parkersburg, York Rite of Weston, Bigelow Royal Chapter # 4 and past treasure, Past High Priest, Eastern Star Chapter # 40.
Friends were received at the Boyle Funeral Home, Weston, Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday from the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Richard Justice officiating. Interment followed in the Weston Masonic cemetery with Weston Lodge # 10 A.F.& A.M. having graveside rites.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Broad St. United Methodist Church.

Steven Bruce Myers
Steven Bruce Myers, 51, of 112 High Street Weston, died early Saturday morning, July 9, 2011, at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born November 1, 1959, in Webster Springs, a son of Bessie Detamore Myers who survives in Webster Springs and the late William (Bill) Myers.
On November 28, 2010, he married the former Connie Scavairello Myers who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Robert Myers of Morgantown; and two daughters, Janna Mustoe of Webster Springs and Laura Myers of Morgantown; two step daughter Catisha Scavairello of Linn and Brittany Parsons of Creston; one sister Mary Katherine Hamrick of Webster Springs; three grandchildren and one step grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one half sister and one half brother.
Mr. Myers was a Physician Assistant for United Health Care and had previously been employed at the William Sharpe Hospital in Weston.
He loved to fly and was an avid Pilot.
He was a Christian by faith.
Friends may call at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave. Weston, Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m.
At his request cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Pats A.A. Group in Steven's name.

Betty Seckman
Betty Seckman, 85, of Bridgeport, passed away Friday, July 08, 2011 in Bridgeport. She was born March 10, 1926 in Weston, WV, a daughter of the late Fred and Carrie Curtis. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dorsey Seckman, who passed away on August 20, 2010.
Mrs. Seckman is survived by her three children, Steven Seckman and his wife Sara Beth of Andover, Kansas, Kathy Hirchak and her husband Roger of Ft. Myers, Florida and Janet Proud and her husband Tom of Bridgeport; one sister, Carolyn Armstrong; eight grandchildlren, Carrie Jones and her husband Dave of Wichita, Kansas, Corey Hickman and his wife Susan of Bridgeport, Bethany Millman of Deleware, Lori Audia and her husband Mike of Clarksburg, Lindsay Adkins and her husband Tim of Charleston, WV, Shannon Proud of Bridgeport, Joel Hirchak and his wife Jessica of Ft. Myers, Florida and Kelci Stromberg of Bridgeport. Mrs. Seckman is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by one daughter, Melanie Stromberg and three great granddaughters.
Mrs. Seckman was a member of the Simpson Creek Baptist Church, where she had served as a Deacon. She was a graduate of Buckhannon Upsher High School. Mrs. Seckman also had previously sold Avon, worked eleven years at J.C. Penny's in uptown Clarksburg and also at Friedlanders.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to People's Hospice, 327 Medical Park Drive, Clarksburg, WV 26330.
Friends and family may visit the Ford Funeral Home, 215 E. Main Street, Bridgeport, on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 from 10-11 am. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 11:00 am with Dr. C. Michael Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Clarksburg.

Damon Wilson West
Damon Wilson West, 96 of Troy died on July 8, 2011 Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Weston. He was born on May 17, 1915 in his grandfather's log home on Stone Lick, near Cox's Mill in Gilmer County, to Oliver Worthy and Essie Ward West. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edna Gordon; a son Larry (Debbie) West of New Martinsville; daughter Lucy Ann West of Glenville; four grandchildren; Chad and Nathan West of New Martinsville, Adam (Erika) West of Clarksburg, Nicole (A.J.) Nastasi of Morgantown, a new great-grandson Kale Damon West; a brother Clive West of Weston and sister Virginia West of Troy.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Shane West.
He received his education at Cox's Mills in a one and two room schools and graduated from Troy High School in 1933. He graduated with a BA from Glenville State College and a master degree from WVU.
He taught from 1936 to 1941 in a one-room school on top of the hill at Pawpaw in Gilmer County. He also taught at Troy Elementary, Troy High School, Glenville High School, and Gilmer County High School. He served as Athletic Director for 35 years in three high schools. He also coached softball, golf, football, basketball, and baseball. In 1994, The Gilmer County Board of Education directed that the Gilmer County High School gymnasium be dedicated to him and be named the Damon West Gymnasium. He attended his first Boys State Basketball Tournament in Buckhannon in 1937. Before World War II he attended 6 tournaments. He missed 4 while in the Army during WW II. Since World War II he attended 64 consecutive tournaments for a total of 70. He was a veteran of WW II serving from 1942-1946. He was a Corporal in Nusemberg when the war ended. He was a lifetime member of the Weston American Legion Post 4 Legion, and sponsored the Veteran's Flag Unit for the Folk Festival in the Glenville. He attended the dedication of the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. in 2004.He Published "Troy High School, 1928-1968" and "A History of Troy Community". He was an honorary member of the Troy Fire Department Services. He attended Troy Baptist Church. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Gilmer County High School Athletic Department.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Sunday, July 10, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Sharon West officiating. Following services, full military honors will be conducted by the Lewis County Honor Guard at the Horn Creek Baptist cemetery. Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston is in charge of arrangements for Damon Wilson West.
