Freda M. Burkhammer
Freda M. Burkhammer, 89, of Jane Lew, WV, Westfield Community, departed this life on August 27, 2012 at United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, WV, following a brief illness.
She was born on October 12, 1922 in Gilmer County, WV, a daughter of the late Orval Furby and Calista Ball Furby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel E. Burkhammer; one daughter, Thelma June Daniel; one son, Roy Lee Burkhammer; three brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Jo and Martin "Bob" Hoover, Sr. of Westfield Community; nine grandchildren; and one step-geanddaughter.
Freda retired from West Virginia Glass Specialty, where she worked as a glass decorator, and later served as a Senior Home Companion.
She faithfully attended the Message of Light Tabernacle for 35 years.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Avenue, Weston, WV.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Russell Furr officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Grove cemetery, Goosepen Road.

Rev. James J. Murphy
A memorial Mass for long-time Weston pastor Rev. James J. Murphy is set for Wednesday, August 29, at 6 p.m. at St. Patrick Church. The public is invited to attend the Memorial Mass.
Fr. Murphy, who served at St .Patrick Church from 1988 to 2002, passed away in Ireland, his retirement home, on July 24. While in Weston, Fr. Murphy was popular in the community and a member of Deerfield Country Club where he was an avid golfer. During his tenure at St. Pat's, Fr. Murphy, the parish celebrated its sesquicentennial and saw huge growth in the student population at St. Patrick School of which he was a great supporter.
Father Murphy was born July 7, 1929, and was a native of Clonmel, Ireland. He was ordained a priest April 18, 1954, in Kiltegan, Ireland, by Bishop Heffernan for the St. Patrick Society in Ireland. He completed his preparatory studies at St. Joseph C.B.S. in Dublin and attended St. Patrick College in Kiltegan, Ireland, where he focused on philosophical and theological studies.
Father Murphy came to the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston Feb. 11, 1966, and was incardinated April 28, 1969, by Bishop Joseph H. Hodges at the St. Patrick Society in Ireland. He served as dean of the Weston Deanery and as pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Weston, St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Weirton, St. Peter Parish in Welch and St. Michael Parish in Vienna.
He also served as temporary administrator of St. Boniface Parish in Camden. He was also an English instructor at St. Benedict's Preparatory School in Newark, N.J., and served as a pastor in the Diocese of Calabar, Nigeria, for 11 years. Father Murphy retired from active ministry in 2002.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Consolation Church, Donnycarney, Dublin 9, Ireland on July 26.

Roy Wayne Jones
Roy Wayne Jones, age 64, 0f 330 Cottage Avenue, Weston passed away on Friday, August 24, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born in Weston on April 13, 1948: son of the late Roy Wayne Powers and Mildred (Quinn) Newlon. On July 10, 1981, he married Brenda (Sands) Jones, who survives.
Mr. Jones is also survived by two daughters: Amanda G. Jones and Sarah E. Jones and Fiance, Tony Posey, both of Weston, three sons: Timothy W. (Amy) Jones of Alum Bridge, Jason A. (Lea) Jones of Pricetown and Kevin L. Smith of Weston; five grandchildren: Kaige Jones, Kole Jones, Konnor Jones, Chad Jones and Isaac Posey.
Also surviving is one sister: Margie Ann (Jim) Rheaume of Whidbey Island, Wash., and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by one brother, Jackie L. "Jack" Jones.
Mr. Jones was a retired preacher of the Valleyview Church of the Nazarene for over 10-years. He was a supervisor at Rite Aide for 9-years and was a Weston City Police officer. Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Army retiring as staff sergeant and serving two tours in Vietnam where he received several medals and commendations including the Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. main Avenue Weston on Monday, August 27, from 2-8 p.m.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday at 1 p.m., from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Richard Settles officiating. Full military honors were provided by the Lewis County Honor Guard.

Lonnie Lee Stout
Lonnie Lee Stout, age 39, of 88 Alkire Street, Walkersville passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at his residence following a sudden illness.
He was born in Lockport, NY on January 22, 1973: son of Gary Stout and Jacqueline (Wrobel) Stout. On June 10, 2005, he married Eva M. (Cutlip) Stout, who survives.
Lonnie is also survived by two children, Katherine Stout and William Taylor; one sister, Shannon Stout Hitt of Linn.
Mr. Stout was a dismantler with Jordan Auto Parts of Clarksburg. He enjoyed restoring antique vehicles.
At Lonnie's request, there will be a memorial service at a later date and interment in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.

Bessie Maybelle Wyatt
Bessie Maybelle Wyatt, 103, of 293 Rada Ave, Weston passed away on Monday, August 20, 2012 in Crestview Nursing Home of Jane Lew following an extended illness.
She was born in Vandalia on August 8, 1909: daughter of the late Tibertius M. Strader and Sarah Elma (Talbott) Strader.
On November 15, 1936, she married James Harrison Wyatt, who preceded her in death on February 15, 1974.
Mrs. Wyatt is survived by one daughter, Bessie Maybelle (David) West of Weston; four sons, James Darrell Wyatt of Germany, Marian William (Joan) Wyatt and Marvin Doyle Wyatt both of Buckhannon and Denzil Leon (Shirley) Wyatt of Camden.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, five step-great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, James, Bessie was preceded in death by one brother, Forrest Strader; and three sisters, Mattie Hyre, Elizabeth Hull and Pearl Strader.
Mrs. Wyatt worked at GC Murphy Company of Weston and the Mountaineer Restaurant. She retired as a dietician from the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston.
Bessie was a member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member of the Vandalia CEOS Club and attended the Haleville Union Mission Church of Weston for 12-years.
She represented Lewis County in the Folk Festival of 1984 as a Belle.
Mrs. Wyatt lived her entire life in Vandalia, on Skin Creek and Rada Avenue. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue, Weston on Thursday, August 23, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Funeral services were held Friday at 3 p.m., from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Clifford West and Pastor William J.B. Bill Gum officiating. Regina Sue Alkire
Regina Sue Rafferty Alkire 53, of French Creek died at 9:48 p.m., Saturday, October 20, 2012 in the St. Joseph Hospital in Buckhannon following an extended illness.
She was born April 6, 1959 in Lewis County: daughter of the late James Timothy Rafferty and Lura Paugh Rafferty.
On Nov. 21, 1996 she married Leslie Alkire who survives.
Also surviving are two sons Jeremy Alkire of French Creek and Joshua Rafferty of Buckhannon; two step-sons, Leslie Alkire Jr., of Buckhannon and Rusty Alkire of Fairmont; one step-daughter, Ashley Alkire of Buckhannon; one brother, Michael Rafferty of Weston; one sister, Mary Agnes Turner of Asheville, N.C.
She was preceded in death by one brother, James Francis Rafferty.
Mrs. Alkire was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Weston.
Friends may call at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service 144 Hackers Creek Road, Jane Lew, Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m., from the St. Bernard Catholic Church at Loveberry with the Fr. J. Stephen Vallelonga as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the St. Bernard Church cemetery.

Charles Richard Brooks
Charles Richard "Charlie" Brooks, 62, of 1068 Loblolly Road, died Sunday, October 21, 2012, at home.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison, N.C. Inurnment will follow at a later date.
Mr. Brooks was born June 2, 1950 in Webster County: son of the late Okie Brooks and Dorothy Hall Brooks Hamrick.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was an employee of Cooper-Kenworth. Charlie was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and cooking. He loved Bluegrass music and never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three infant children; brothers, Frances Brooks and Timmy Brooks; brothers-in-law, Tony Cowger and Denny Tenney and niece, Bendetti Crouse.
Survivors include his wife of 31-years, Barbara Butcher Brooks of the home; son, Christopher (Terri) Brooks; daughter, Crystal (Clyde )Kiker; brothers, Donald (Beatrice) Brooks; Golden Hamrick and Daniel Hamrick; sisters, Eloise Cowger, Cathrine Tenney, Marie Myers, Sylvia Jean Mick and Velveteen (Jay) Faulkineer; grandchildren, Marie Henderson, Clyde Kiker, III, Lauren Kiker, Erin Kiker, Caitlyn Kiker and Ashlyn Brooks and great-granddaughters, Jazmine and Sarah.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m., Wednesday, at Colonial Funeral Home and all other times at the residence.

Gladys Doyle Canaday
Gladys Doyle Canaday, age 94, of Weston, former long time resident of Charlotte, N.C., and wife of the late James M. Canaday, Sr., passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2012.
Born in Cowpens, S.C. on January 30, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Jessie and Estelle (Smith) Wade. Mrs. Canaday was a devoted member of Beth Haven Baptist Church for over 40-years and also served as head of the church nursery program for 35-years.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris Shillingburg and husband, Lawrence of Weston; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son and a daughter. Funeral services will be held Sunday, 3:30 p.m., at Beth Haven Baptist Church, 1783 Beth Haven Church Rd., Denver, N.C., with Pastor David Mims to officiate.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m., at the church. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Beth Haven Baptist Church, 1783 Beth Haven Church Rd., Denver, N.C. 28037.

Lawrence D. Gay
Lawrence D. Gay 78, of 117 Abbott Run Road, Horner, died Monday, October 22, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born July 2, 1934 in Lewis County: son of the late Lawrence and Rosa Call Gay.
In 1953 he married the former Janet Joan Belt who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Barbara J. Ables of Weston and Cheryl Phares of Linn; two sons, Roger D. Gay of Lake Floyd and Robert L. Gay of Weston; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Gay was employed for several years at the Lewis County board of Education as a school bus driver and previously was employed by the WV Department of Highways. He also painted and restored autos for several years and was a member of the Horner United Methodist Church.
