Bret Alan Hinkle
Bret Alan Hinkle, 48, of 9 Trolley Street, Jane Lew, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on January 2, 1964 in Weston: son of the late Jack Bayard Hinkle, Sr. and Judith Marie (Workman) Hinkle.
He is survived by two brothers, Jack B. Hinkle, Jr., and wife, Donna and Jess Hinkle; three sisters, Cathy Bright and husband, Roger, Teresa S. Wasielewski and husband, Jim and Alicia Ann Stickel and husband, Dan, all of Jane Lew. In addition to his siblings, Bret is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Brent enjoyed watching sports especially football and cheering for the WVU, he also enjoyed Nascar his favorite driver was the intimidator, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. Brent Also enjoyed watching the History Channel and he worked as a carpenter.
Family will receive friends at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 North Main Avenue, Weston on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 3-8 p.m. Following visitation Mr. Hinkle will be cremated and a private family service will be held at Snyder cemetery with Pastor Wease Day officiating. William Dawson Means
William Dawson Means, 92, of 2736 U.S. Highway 33 West, Weston, passed away on October 22, 2012 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
William was born on Dec. 6, 1919 in Hurst: son of the late Willie Ervin Means ad Grace Truman (Sprouse) Means. On Dec. 10, 1947 he married Eva R. (Cox) Means who survives.
Mr. Means is also survived by three daughters, Pat Bush and husband, Bob of Weston, Debbie Blackstone and husband, Larry of Ohio and Brenda Lydon of Weston.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Brian L. Bush and fiancé, Janell Starner, Breanna A. Wilson and husband, Chris, Jessica Krohn and husband, Ryan and Brittany Parks and fiancé, Jonathan Oates; three great-grandchildren, Ethan and Jobie Bush and Karli Krohn; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded death by one brother, Fred O. Means and two sisters, Virginia N. Means and Ruth Means.
Mr. Means was a retired well tender and compressor operator for Hope Gas Company. He was a graduate of Weston High School and a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church on Straight Run in Lewis County where he was superintendent for almost 50-years.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, both of Jane Lew.
Family will receive friends at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 North Main Avenue, Weston on Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Alan Neal and Reverend Russell Furr officiating.
Interment will follow services in the Rock Grove cemetery in Linn with Full Military Honors conducted by the Lewis County Honor Guard. On-line condolences may be expressed to the family at www.hardman-palettifuneralhome.com

Helen Jean Pickens,
Helen Jean Pickens, age 82 of Ireland, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born July 14, 1930 in Duffy. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Guy and Garnett Cooper Boggs; two husbands, James Perry Allman and Charles D. Pickens; infant daughter, Mary Louise Allman; son, George "Sonny" Allman;
two brothers, Clarence and Junior Boggs and sister, Irene Fisher.
She is survived by three daughters, Helena Kinsinger and husband, David of Ohio; Beverly Oldaker and husband, Arnold of Weston; Shirley Sprouse and husband, Stanley of Ireland; son James Allman and wife, Ellu Mae of Ky.; two step-sons, Art and Charles Pickens both of Ireland; daughter-in-law, Sharon Allman of Crawford; two sisters, Pearl Singleton of Ireland; Audry Farrar of Buckhannon; two brothers, Kenneth Boggs of Jane Lew and Keith Boggs and wife, Shirley of Ireland; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, who loved her very much.
Mrs. Pickens was a Methodist by faith and attended the Elijah Chapel in Ireland faithfully until her health would not allow her to. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and quilting.
The family received friends from 5 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Alkire Funeral Chapel where services will begin at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, with Rev. Dwayne Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Kincaid cemetery.

Paul K. Silcott
Paul K. Silcott, 94, of Weston died Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at the WV Veteran's Nursing Facility in Clarksburg. He was born on Dec. 25, 1917, in Newburg: son of the late Guy and Laura Silcott.
Paul lived a long and full life. He attended school in Newburg and graduated from WVU. He taught Vocational Agriculture in both Wirt and Lewis Counties, and was elected to the WV Vocational Agriculture Hall of Fame.
He was a Veteran of WWII, a 53 year master mason, Aurora Lodge 43, Newburg, former president of the Weston Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Fellow award. He was also president of the Lewis County Heart Society and a charter member of the Stonewall Jackson Jubilee Committee.
Paul was an active member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, singing in the choir for 50 plus years and was treasurer of the men's group for several years. He was also active in various community choirs and plays. Loving music, he was always available to sing. Also loving to eat, he was a daily visitor to the Lewis County Senior Center, enjoying fellowship, food and musical programs.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ashby; three brothers, George, Carl and Bill Silcott; one sister, Hilda Ervin and one great-grandson, Jacob Curry.
He is survived by two daughters, Margaret (Peg) McCauley and husband, Ronald of Buckhannon and Connie McNair and husband, Gary of Leland, N.C.; and one son, Larry Silcott and wife, Rosanna of Weston.
Surviving also are seven grandchildren, Jenny (Greg) Curry of Lewisburg, Jan (Joe) Michael, of Parsons, Whitney (Chris) Haught of Weston, Lindsay (John) Fowkes of Morgantown, Nathan Silcott of Knoxville, Tenn, Ashlea (David) Mulhall of Shawnee, Kan., and Chris McNair of Albuquerque, N.M. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation were from 3-8 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 North Main Avenue, Weston.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m., at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 3rd Street, Weston, with the Rev. Ronald McCauley Officiating. Raymond "Kent" Taylor
Raymond "Kent" Taylor, age 67, a resident of Beverly, departed this life Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency Department.
He had been recovering from kidney failure for the past three months although death was unexpected.
He was born Sunday, Feb. 26, 1945 in Weston: son of the late Charles Roscoe Taylor and Wilsie Minter Taylor Fisher. On Oct. 11, 1963 in Pricetown, he was married to his high school sweetheart, the former Paula Jane Morrison, who survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Rebecca Taylor Burns, Thomas; two sons, Aaron Seth Taylor and wife Whitney, Va,; R. Kent Taylor, II, Texas; two sisters, Virginia Lea Travisano, Cali.; Betty Lou Carey and husband Jack, Va.; two grandsons, Caleb Burns, Thomas and Seth Taylor, Va., and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are two sisters, Margie Joann Grasso and Patty Jean Butcher and one baby brother, James Roscoe Taylor.
Kent graduated from Weston High School with the Class of 1963. He worked for the Monongahela Power Company from 1963 to 1972. In 1965 he was transferred to Elkins and in 1969 to Parsons. From 1972 to 1989 he operated heavy equipment and drove tractor trailer.
In 1989 he went to work as an electrician at Davis & Elkins College and retired in 2002. While employed at D & E, he started building a new back stop at the baseball field in the summer of 1992. He spent evenings and weekends working on the project and it was finished for the first game the following spring. Most recently he had worked part-time for Advance Auto.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Parsons and for many years was a DJ for Christian Channel 6 and camera man for the broadcast of the Sunday morning church services. He coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball while living in Tucker County. After moving back to Randolph County, he trained as an emergency volunteer with the C.E.R.T. program.
Kent loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Taylor's request for cremation was honored. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date in Lewis County.

Betty Joan Ammons
Betty Joan Ammons, age 89, of 515 Monroe Street, Weston died at 3:20 p.m., Thursday, November 15, 2012 in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston following a sudden illness.
She was born Sept. 22, 1923 in Marion County: daughter of the late James Frederick and Blanche Mae Hayes Moore.
On July 12, 1943, she married Roy Ammons, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Brenda Sue Ammons Lowman and husband Harold of Forest City, N.C.; one son, Patrick T. Ammons and wife Barbara Ann Johns Ammons of Horner; one sister, Laura Rosedell Moore Hayes and husband Vernon of Massillion, Ohio; two grandsons, Patrick Wayne Ammons and wife Jennifer Henes Ammons, both of Horner and Michael Brian Ammons and wife Maria Bates Ammons of Lost Creek; four great-grandchildren, Kristen and Elizabeth Ammons both of Horner and Madison and Lindsay Ammons both of Lost Creek and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, one half-sister and one half-brother.
Mrs. Ammons was retired from the G.C. Murphy Company with several years of service and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Weston.
At Betty's request there will be a private visitation and funeral service. Interment will follow in the Forest lawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jonathan Nettles officiating.

Dorothy Jeanette Bennett
Dorothy Jeanette Bennett, age 69, of Weston passed away on November 14, 2012, at her home with her youngest son present.
She was born on Dec. 16, 1943 in Weston: daughter of the late Mary Josephine Queen.
Jeanette is survived by her husband, Archie Ell Bennett, of 50-years, whom she married on March 12, 1962.
Mrs. Bennett is also survived by her sons; Allen Ell and Tina (Beto)Bennett and their children, Heather Bennett (Eric) Bonner, Jennifer, Emily and Matthew Bennett, Brian Edward Bennett and child, Ryan and Brian's step-son Monty Hinkle.
Also surviving are two sisters, Delores Ann Queen (Steve) McVay and niece Kelly and Darlene Annette Queen Workman (Buddy). She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Josephine Queen, step-father Richard Queen and brothers, Johnny, Richard and Cecil Ray Queen.
Mrs. Bennett worked as a nurse's aide at the old Weston City Hospital for several years and then went into home care for patients.
Dorothy was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for a few years. She was a member of Weston Chapter 4 OES at Weston. One of her passions in life was doing genealogy for her family of which she composed several books on her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue, Weston on Friday, Nov. 16, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov.17, at 11 a.m., from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Richard Justice officiating.

Roger Lee "Buddy" Conrad
Roger Lee "Buddy" Conrad, age 64, of Orlando, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012 with his family at his bedside at his residence after a long battle with cancer.
He was born Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1948 in Braxton County: son of the late Marjorie A. Blake and Orman "Pop" Conrad.
Roger was a graduate of the Burnsville High School Class of 1967. He worked as Deputy Assessor at the Braxton County Courthouse for over 30-years and retired in 2010. He continued working part-time until May, 2011.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1968-1970. Roger enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, golfing and playing cards and pool every week with family and friends.
In addition to being preceded in death by his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Terry "Squirt" Blake, Donald Blake and one infant brother.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra L. Burgett Conrad, whom he married Nov. 10, 1973; daughter, Amy (Tony) McKahan of Mansfield, Ohio; daughter, Lora (Chris)Fox of Jane Lew; son, Roger A. Conrad of Orlando and one grandson, Connor Samuel McKahan.
Also surviving are brothers, Harold W. (Rebecca) Conrad of Somerset, Ohio, Larry "Boo" Blake of Orlando, Lonnie (Pat) Ratliff of Weston and David (Candy) Blake of Orlando; sister, Lois "Jeanie" Kinser of Amanda, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service were held on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m., at Stockert-Sizemore Funeral Home in Flatwoods with Rev. Delmas Singleton and Rev. Jennings Dancy officiating.
Burial followed in Orlando cemetery in Orlando with a military graveside service. Friends were received at the funeral home Saturday evening, Nov. 17, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Stockert-Sizemore Funeral Home, Flatwoods, West Virginia is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Mae Donaldson
Betty Mae Donaldson of rural Oakwood, Ohio passed away Thursday, November 8,2012, in her home. She was born to Thomas and Anna Fay Pumphrey on June 1,1941 in Weston.
On Dec.10,1956 she married Dorsey Junior Donaldson, who preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 2003. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs Rick (Janie) DeSota. Betty and Junior moved to ohio in 1964. Betty was a very active member of the Defiance, Ohio Church of the Brethren. She was a former member of Centenary Church of Oakwood where she helped with vacation bible school. She once worked at the former Dinner Bell Foods, JP Louis Shoe Store and was an Avon representive. She enjoyed canning anything she could get her hands on and was a big St. Louis Cardinal fan.
She is survived by her daughter, Janie (Rick) DeSota of Continental, Ohio; one sister, Oleta Hasselschwert of Defiance, Ohio; three brothers, Roger Pumphrey of Wooster Ohio, Bud Pumphrey of Massilon, Ohio and Frank Pumphrey of Clarksburg. She is also survived by three grandsons, Daniel (Misty) DeSota, Rich (Heidi) DeSota and Ron DeSota, all of Defiance Ohio; three great-grandchildren and a special nephew and niece, Tom and Lynn Hitt of Oakwood, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters. Services were held Monday November 12, 2012.
