Reverend Harold Lee Harsh
The Reverend Harold Lee Harsh bid farewell to this world on Monday, May 20, 2013 at his home in Buckhannon. He returned to the grace and favor of the Lord, His savior. He was 71.
Mr. Harsh was born in Parsons, on June 15, 1941 to Elmer "Smokey" and Kathleen (Dawson) Harsh.
He graduated from Belington High (1959) and attended Potomac State College. He enlisted in the Army in 1960 and was one of the first 10,000 troops to be deployed to Vietnam by President John F. Kennedy. He was medically discharged in 1970.
Upon discharge, Mr. Harsh worked in Laborer's Union #984 as a steward on multiple projects including the Sutton Dam and the Bridgeport Post Office Hub.
Mr. Harsh was also well-known at flea-markets and auctions. He was a memorable character and friend to many.
Mr. Harsh is survived by brother Ron Harsh and wife Sharon of Belington, sister Mary Stark and husband Tom of Parkersburg, brother David Harsh of Beckley and brother Tim Harsh and wife Paula of Dry Fork; daughter Kathleen Harsh of Great Mills, MD, son Maurice Harsh and wife Kelly of Chambersburg, PA, son Douglas Harsh and wife Sharon of Pittsburgh, PA, son Jeremy Harsh and companion Susan Marshall of Buckhannon; grandchildren Brittany Taylor and Marissa Harsh of Chambersburg, PA, Haley, Grace, and Jacob Harsh of Pittsburgh, PA; great grandchild Aiden Taylor of Chambersburg, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Harsh was preceded in death by both parents and brother Robert Harsh.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Thursday May 23, from 12- 2 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm with Pastor Frank Shreve officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord cemetery with military honours being accorded. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.wrightfuneralhomeservices.com

Hugh Clinton "Jack" Metz
Hugh Clinton "Jack" Metz, 72, of 1446 Loveberry Run Road, Weston passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013 in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital Weston, following a brief illness.
He was born in Copley on Jan. 29, 1941: son of the late Claud S. Metz and Leona (Radcliff) Metz.
On Oct. 15, 1960, he married Elsie (Dean) Metz, who survives.
Jack is also survived by one sister, Pauline Niday of Walker; one step-sister: Debra Posey of Weston, two step-brothers, Greg and Kevin Metz, both of Weston and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by one brother, George Bernard Metz.
Jack was a retired construction foreman with Reliable Construction Company of Millersville, Md. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved running all types of machinery. He also loved to farm. Jack was quite a jokester and will be remembered as one who enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Monday, May 20, from 4-8 p.m.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 10 a.m., from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Carl Mouser officiating.

Madge Evelyn King Richards
Madge Evelyn King Richards, age 77, of 147 Alum Fork Road of Camden went to be with the Lord at 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in the Crestview Manor Nursing Home in Jane Lew, following an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 7, 1935 in Lewis County: a daughter of the late French Harold and Anna Bell Alkire King.
Surviving are six children, Barry Scheuvront and wife, Janet of Weston, Mark Scheuvront of Newark, Ohio, Debra Simmons and husband, Jim of Camden, Lisa Qxier and husband, Doug of Thornville, Ohio, Gary Scheuvront of Camden and Ronald Richards of Camden; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Elma Riffle and husband, John, Juanita Riddle, Virginia Marple and husband, Charles, and Irene Lundell and husband, Don, all of Weston and Susan Bonnell and husband, Randy of Jane Lew; two brothers, Gene King and wife, Betty of Jane Lew and Tom King and wife, Cathy of Weston; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Jeffrey, Joe and Jerry Scheuvront; two sisters, Hazel Foster and Anna Bonnell; and one brother, David King.
Madge was a homemaker and Baptist by faith. She enjoyed cooking and was especially known for her beans and cornbread as well as her homemade biscuits and gravy. She enjoyed growing a vegetable garden and canned much of her harvest.
Friends were received at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service on Friday, May 17, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 18, from the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Riffle officiating.
Interment will follow in the Peterson cemetery in Weston.

Vanessa Lynn (Craft) Jarrell
Vanessa Lynn (Craft) Jarrell, 26, of 503 River Street, Gassaway, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 21, 2013.
Vanessa was born July 21, 1987 in Dunedin, Fla.: a daughter of Rodney Craft and Cindy Craft. She was married to David Michael Jarrell, Jr., who survives.
Vanessa was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Fletcher Craft and Leerie Craft, and maternal grandfather, Robert Straley
Vanessa is also survived by two daughters, Nevaeh Jarrell and Ayvah Jarrell at home and one step-daughter, Aleena Jarrell of Little Birch.
Also surviving is mother-in-law, Shelley Jarrell; maternal grandmother, Louise Straley; one sister, Tawnya Kemerer; one special nephew, Joshua Robert Esch; and several Aunts and Uncles.
Vanessa was a Methodist by faith and a member of the Morrison Ridge United Methodist Church. She was a 2005 graduate of Braxton County High School. Vanessa was a professional shopper and loved going to the mall and trying on new clothes. Vanessa also loved to swim, decorate and to be with her friends. Her biggest joy was making a home for her husband and daughters. Vanessa was a giving person, loved helping others and will be greatly missed.
Family will receive friends at the Stockert-Gibson-Paletti Funeral Home, 225 Main Street, Flatwoods, on Thursday, July 25, from 4 - 8 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 26, from the Stockert-Gibson-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Malick officiating. Interment will follow services in the Morrison Ridge cemetery.

Sandra Lee Gaston
Sandra Lee Gaston, age 76, of Lost Creek, passed away at 1:27 p.m., on Thursday, July 18, 2013 in the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Mt. Clare on April 4, 1937: a daughter of the late Clyde Lyle and Gertrude Nellie Shears Mitchell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Marsha Simmons.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Gaston of Lost Creek and Susan Gaston of Bridgeport; four sons, Robert (Julia) Gaston of Bridgeport, David Gaston Jr., of Columbus, Ohio, Michael (Jeannie) Gaston of Lost Creek, Timothy Gaston of Whitehall, Ohio; one sister, Judith (Alfred) Trevison of Lost Creek; 13 grandchildren, David, Timmy and Traci Gaston, Michael, Crystal, and Amanda Gaston, Rachel and Brandi Messenger, Dawn Surock, Jamie and Angela Cantrell, Adrienne and Bethany Gaston; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins, including Jerry (Carmella) Nickerson of Cali.
Sandra retired from the Harrison County Board of Education as a valued service personnel employee with 22-years of service as a cook. She was an angel of service to her community, who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She was a member and trustee of the Lost Creek United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women, a board member of the Southern Area Library, a member of the Lost Creek Christmas Light Committee, a member of the Red Hat Society, founder and past president of the Lost Creek Country Fall Festival, a member of the Lost Creek Senior Citizens, a member of the Lost Creek Alumni Committee, a former Lost Creek Council Member, a member of the Lost Creek Women's Fireman's Auxiliary, a 1955 graduate of Lost Creek High School, and an active volunteer for the church food pantry and Lost Creek Helping Hands.
She loved to read and was known by all her friends and family as an excellent cook. She often organized benefit dinners and delivered meals to friends who were under the weather.
Sandra's request for cremation has been honored and her family invites you to attend a Celebration of Life Service at 3 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 4, at the Lost Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Lost Creek Seventh Day Baptist cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Sandra's memory to Lost Creek United Methodist Church at PO Box 176 Lost Creek WV 26385. There will also be a Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, July 30, at the Fairmont Senior High School Cafeteria. If anyone would like to donate blood in Sandra's honor, they may call Misty Poe at (304)-367-2523 to schedule an appointment.

Frank R. "Bob" Hook
Frank R. "Bob" Hook, age 70, of Roanoke, formally of Malone and Liberty N.Y., passed away Saturday, July 20, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born July 13, 1943: son of the late Frank E. and Marie (Knight) Hook. On May 14, 1983 he married Cindy L. Hillriegel, who survives. They celebrated 30-years of marriage together.
He is survived by his children, David Hook and companion, Sandy Deckelman, Pamela (Frank) Yoli, Jeremiah (Christy) Hook, Chuck Porter and fiance, Erin Roberts, all of Liberty, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jessica Bagailuk, Cody, Chase and Carson Hook, Ariella, Miranda and Karisa Yoli, and Kyle and Ryan Porter, all of N.Y.
Along with his parents, Bob was also preceded in death by one son, Robert.
Bob worked for the New York State Department of Corrections for 30-years as a corrections officer before making his home in W.Va.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed every opportunity he could to be hunting, fishing or 4-wheeling with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. He will be sadly missed by all, including his four-legged friend, Jake.
Arrangements have been made to return him to N.Y. As of this time, no services for W.Va., have been made.

John Franklin Raines
John Franklin Raines, age 84, of Camden passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Crestview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jane Lew, following an extended illness.
He was born in Diana (Webster County) on May 5, 1929: son of the late David F. Raines and Mary C. Belcher, Deel, Raines, Hammons.
He married Ada Belle Riley Raines on April 15, 1950. They enjoyed 63-years of marriage together. They are the proud parents of ten children, Anna Epp of Alum Bridge, Carolyn (Junior) Acevedo of Orlando, Fla., and Darlene Lapeer of Lost Creek, Mayford (Evelyn) Raines of Jacksonville, Fla., William K. Raines (dec), James (Brenda) Raines of Lumberport, John (Kathy) Raines of Shinnston, Charles (Arzetta) Raines, Andrew (Helen) Raines, both of Camden and Steven Michael (Beth) Raines of Leavensworth, Kan.
In addition to his parents and son he was preceded in death by one brother, David F. Raines.
Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren along with one brother, Howard Raines of Normantown.
Mr. Raines was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and DAV. He worked 15-years for the Hines Brothers in construction and later for the WVDOH.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home located at 730 N. Main Avenue in Weston on Friday, July 19, from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 20, at 11 a.m., from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Wease Day officiating. Interment followed services in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. On-line condolences in memory of John may be expressed at www.hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.

Hogan Ottawa Short
Hogan Ottawa Short, 18-day-old son of Eldon and Brianna Lowther Short, went to be with the Lord Thursday morning, July 18, 2013 at Troy, following an unexpected illness.
He is survived by his twin sister, Hailey Short who is lives at home; maternal grandparents, Joe and Kim Lowther of Linn; maternal great-grandparents, Avon and Elizabeth Lowther of Linn; and maternal great-grandmother, Sandra Beall of Normantown; paternal grandparents, George and Sharon Short of Linn; paternal great-grandparents, William and Patricia Self of Cox's Mill.
He was preceded in death by paternal great-grandparents, Eldon and Mattie Short and maternal great-grandfather, Jack Beall.
Funeral Services were conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. 2 Vanhorn Drive in Glenville, at 2:30 p.m., Monday July 22, with Pastor Brian Bukovesky officiating. Burial followed in the Farnsworth cemetery, Troy. Friends called from 1 - 2:30 p.m., the funeral hour at the mortuary.
Ellyson Mortuary Inc. assisted the parents of Hogan O. Short with arrangements.

Ida Yurek
Jan. 6, 1923-July 16, 2013
Ida Yurek, age 90, of Bradenton, Fla., died July 16, after a life filled with family, friends, ballroom dancing, gardening, church and giving back.
She was never one to shy away from hard work. Ida kept an immaculate home and yard and always sent her grandchildren and great-grandchildren home with hugs, guidance, full tummies and sweet goodies to go. She often said that working in her garden was the closest to heaven she'd ever get.
Born Ida Mae Hardman to Anthony and Bertie Hardman on Jan. 6, 1923 in Weston, Ida graduated from Weston High School in 1942. After graduation, she and a friend traveled to Baltimore and she became a welder working on airplanes during World War II. In Baltimore she met Edward Yurek, whom she frequently described as her "one and only love," while sledding. He loved her beautiful coal-black eyes. They married in 1943 and had a treasured daughter, Jeannette. Ida and Ed were married for 60-years. Her devoted best friend was Ed's sister, Rita Dekowski of Baltimore.
Ida worked as a quality checker for Western Electric for 30-years, in stylish heels. She belonged to the Ladies Oriental Shrine. She and Ed won trophies as ballroom dancers. After retirement in 1985, she and Ed moved to Florida. They loved to fish and crab. She was a long-time volunteer at Blake Medical Center, where she made many friends and won the first Humanitarian Award in 2013 in recognition of a dedicated spirit and genuine concern for the welfare of others. She was a loyal member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where she greeted members with flair as usher and headed up the jewelry section of the church bazaar.
Above all, she always said she loved her family and church. She was passionate about helping others. Her resiliency left all in awe.
She is preceded in death by husband and best friend, Eddie; brother, John; sisters, Mildred and Nettie; and her beloved niece, Alda McCullough of Weston.
Survivors include daughter, Jeanne (Ken) Escue of Ruskin, Fla.; grandchildren, Lisa (Blake) Kresl of Dallas, Texas, Tim Thatcher of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Stephanie (Jeff) Weinsier of Hollywood, Fla.; great-grandchildren include, Lucie and Will Kresl and Jack, Carly and Drew Weinsier.
Ida Yurek's memorial service will be July 29, at 11 a.m., at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Bradenton. Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the Blake Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, 2020 59th Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209 or to Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
