Anna Marie Marks
Anna Marie Marks, age 86, of Raccoon Run Road in Weston passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at home, with her family by her side, following an extended illness.
She was born in Lewis County on Sept. 21, 1927: daughter of the late James Riffle and Mary Elizabeth (Paugh) Riffle.
On March 30, 1950 she married Jack D. Marks, who preceded her in death on July 27, 2007.
Mrs. Marks is survived by five children, Linda Joyce Marks Webb and husband, Charles, Roxann Elizabeth Marks Perine, Delores Sue Marks (Carl) Mealey and Constance Maria Marks Jenkins, all of Weston and Burl Junior (PAmela) Marks of Deltona, Fla.
She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one brother, John Riffle of Weston and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jack, Mrs. Marks was preceded in death by three brothers, Jake, Burl and Henry Riffle; and two sisters, Georgie Pertz and Augusta Riffle.
Mrs. Marks was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Church of God on Jennings Run. She loved to sew, sing and listen to Swap Shop on the radio. Her greatest joy was spending time with family.
Family and friends were received at Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue in Weston on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 5 - 8 p.m.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m., from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Earnest Eagle officiating.
Interment followed services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew.

Michael Dale McElwain
Michael Dale "Ernie" McElwain, age 57, of Sutton, passed away at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston, Tuesday, January 28, 2014 after a short illness.
He was born on Sept. 30, 1956, in Las Vagus, Nev.: the eldest son of Harry and Phyllis McElwain.
He was a printer by trade and a dedicated employee of Quality Printing Company/Braxton Citizens' News for over 30-years. He loved to shoot pool and spend time with friends. He cherished time spend with his young cousins and loved animals.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry McElwain; grandparents Herbert and Blanche McElwain and Orva and Maude Johnston.
He is survived by his mother, Phyllis McElwain of Barberton, Ohio; and one brother, Mark McElwain of Cincinncini, Ohio.
He is also survived by one aunt, Melba Freeman of Sutton; uncle, Frank Johnston of Staunton, Va.; and cousins, Ed Given and Marty Given and families.
At his request, his remains will be cremated.
A memorial service was held at Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home in Flatwoods at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 1.
A fellowship of friends and family began at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in his name to the Braxton County Animal Shelter. Stockert-Paletti is in charge of the arrangements.

Mildred Musgrave
Mildred Musgrave Poole, age 90, Middletown, formerly of Cayce, S.C., died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Glade Valley Center in Walkersville.
She was the wife of the late Olin Poole of Salley, S.C., whom she married Oct. 26, 1957.
Born in Weston on February 7, 1923: she was a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Chapman Musgrave.
Mildred was raised in Lewis County and was a member of the Clark Chapel Methodist Church. She trained as a registered nurse and retired from the South Carolina State Hospital in Columbia, S.C.
She was the youngest of seven children, brothers Fred, Charles, and Frank Musgrave and sisters Bertha Woodell, Virginia Stobart, and isabelle Mackey.
At the time of her death she resided at the home of her niece, Carol (Frank) Glaspell in Middletown, Md., and moved to Glade Valley Center after requiring additional care.
She will be returned to her home in Cayce, S.C., with interment beside her husband at the Clinton United Methodist Church cemetery, Salley, S.C.
Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, Middletown, is in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Maxine Ratliff
Thelma Maxine Ratliff, age 86, of Ireland went home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2014.
She was born in Braxton County on Oct. 29, 1927: a daughter of the late Herschel and Carrie Finegan.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Brown Ratliff; one brother, Clifford Finegan; and one sister, Irene Claypool.
Mrs. Ratliff leaves behind daughters, Carolyn Williams, Sharon (Charles) Bleigh; and step-son, Jack (Wanda) Ratliff.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Kim Fisher, Tammy (Dennis) Sapp and William (Stacie) Fisher; great-grandchildren, Tera (Brian) Craig, Adam Cayton, Tasha Sapp and Ben Cayton; and she was also blessed with three great-great-grandchildren, Bryce Cayton, Ava Cayton and Brantlee Craig.
Thelma is also survived by sisters, Ina Mae Barnett and Audrey Shultz; many step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Thelma was so full of life, she loved her family, and she loved her community. She enjoyed cooking, canning, watching the birds and loved her pets. She enjoyed every minute she spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Family received friends at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 225 Main Street in Flatwoods on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 6 - 8 p.m., and on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 11 a.m., till 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dwayne Brown officiating.
Interment will follow services in the Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens in Heaters.
The Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home of Flatwoods will be caring for the Ratliff family.

Jane Barrett White,
Jane Barrett White, age 81, of Weston went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 30, 2014 in Crestview Nursing Home of Jane Lew, following an extended illness.
She was born in Lewis County on Nov. 17, 1932: daughter of the late Charles A. Barrett and Georgia (Lewis) Barrett.
On Sept. 10,1955 she married Burl L. White, who preceded her in death on March 28, 2012.
Mrs. White is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth A. (Rick) Porter of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sons, David L. White of Weston and Mark J. (Michelle) White of Scott Depot; and five grandchildren, Andrew R. Porter, Sarah E. Porter, Anna M. White, Ethan M. White and Jacob B. White.
She is also survived by one brother, Charles E. Barrett of Weston; two sisters, Virginia B. Davisson and Mary Ann Hiteshew, both of Weston, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. White was a retired clerk with Weston State Hospital with 20-years of service. She was a graduate of Weston High School with the Class of 1950, attended the Freemansburg United Methodist Church and was a member of the Weston Chapter 40 Order of Eastern Star.
Jane loved quilting, gardening and canning. She was an accomplished pianist and song writer and played piano for her church and many community groups.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue in Weston on Sunday, Feb. 2, from 1 - 3 p.m.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m., from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Russell Furr officiating.
Interment followed services in the Weston Masonic cemetery.

Stella Marie Wood
Stella Marie Wood, age 71, of 79 Turner Avenue in Weston passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014 at her residence, following a sudden illness.
She was born in Camden on Nov. 23, 1942: daughter of the late Oras Hefner and Stella Maxine (Metz) Hefner.
On July 27, 1957 she married Earl Wood, who preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 2005.
Stella is survived by two daughters, Stella (James D.) Poling of Weston and Joyce Diane (Brian) Duncan of Romney; one son, David Earl (Jill) Wood of Weston; six grandchildren, Christy Corbin, Kelli Ruckman, Eric and Ryan Sherrard, Tyler Wood and Ashlee Dove; and 10 great-grandchildren, Melodee and Megan Corbin, Haden Cook, Hunter McManaway, April, Wesley, Zachary and Aaron Sherrard, Crystal Dove and Allyson Ruckman.
She is also survived by two brothers, George "Bobby" (Cindy) Hefner and William Edward (Roberta) Hefner, both of Weston; six sisters, Patty Paul, Carol Wiant, Sandra (Junior) Barnett, Debra Hefner and Kathy (Bill) Daley,all of Weston and Lea Ellen Hefner of N.C., and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Earl, Stella was preceded in death by one brother, Lash Hefner.
Mrs. Wood was a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a Methodist by faith. She enjoyed crocheting, working with ceramics, reading and working with her flowers. Stella's greatest joy was being with her family.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue in Weston on Sunday, Jan. 19, from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m., from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Russell Furr officiating.
Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew.

John G. Alfred
Jonathan Gordon Alfred, age 59, of Parkersburg, went home to be with the Lord and Savior on Feb. 20, 2015, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born in Weston, March 9, 1955: a son of the late Thomas J. and Bertie Belle Shallenberger Alfred.
He was employed by the Erie Insurance Group as an investigator since 1987 and was a member of IASIU. Previously he had worked as assistant state fire marshall from 1980 to 1987 and as a police officer with the Weston City Police Department from 1974 to 1980 where he obtained the rank of Sargent.
He graduated from Lewis County High School in 1973 and obtained his degree in Criminal Justice from Fairmont State College in 1979.
His most precious moments were spending time with family and spoiling his grandchildren. He enjoyed WVU football, woodworking, reading, music and traveling with his wife. Alfred attended Christ Mission Baptist Church.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Joanna Knox Alfred, whom he married May 10, 1997; son, Perry G. Alfred, a major in the USAF stationed at Hurlburt Field, Fla., daughter, Laura B. Thurman (Greg) of Morgantown; step-daughters, Terra Miller, Trisha Law (Jared) and Tasha Miller, all of Parkersburg; granddaughter, Beatrice; and step-grandchildren, Eric, Ally Hallie, Austin, Lilly, Mason, Liam and Rowan; siblings, Thomas Steven Alfred (Nancy) of Weston, Mary Boggs of Salem, Jennifer Bailey (Bob) of Weston, Alice Rittenhouse (Charles) of Weston, Sara Borchert of Mahaffey, Pa., Susan Murray (Steve) of Weston and Joseph Alfred of Salem; father and mother-in-law, Thomas D, Sr. and Sue Knox; brothers-in-law, Joe Knox (Tonya), Steve Knox (Jeanette) and Dail Kuhens (Rhonda); sister-in-law, Darlene Kuhens and families.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with Pastor Mark Watkins officiating.
Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.
Visitation was held Tuesday and one-hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Thomas Jackson Blake
Thomas "Tinker "Jackson Blake, age 82, of Orlando, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 20, 2015.
He was born on April 11, 1932, in Orlando: to the late Auzie and Iva (Wine) Blake of Orlando.
Thomas is also preceded in death by his wife, Madelyn I. Blake; and brother, James Blake of Weston.
Those left to honor his memory are brothers, William "Bill" (Velva Jean) Blake of Weston, and Jesse (Leila) Blake of Duck; sister, Mary Jane (Homer) Blake of Walkersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Thomas was a lineman, working for Pennline throughout the 1960s and also T.A. Chapman throughout the 1970s. He also worked as a farmhand. He was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting deer, rabbit and squirrel. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and canning.
The family received friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home at 378 Flatwoods Corner Road in Flatwoods, WV 26621.
Funeral Services followed visitation at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home with Pastor Jesse Blake officiating.
Interment followed in the Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens cemetery in Heaters.
The Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home of Flatwoods is honored to be serving the Blake Family.
