Vern Tweedy - 02/02/01

Funeral services for Everett La Vern "Vern" Tweedy, the father of a Gillette man, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Casper with the Rev. Stephen Gillham officiating.

Burial will be in Wyoming Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Tweedy, 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Wyoming Medical Center from complications following heart surgery in December.

He was born Jan. 30, 1923, in Glenwood Springs, Colo., to Anna and Charles B. Tweedy. He married May Benson in Grand Junction, Colo., on Nov. 16, 1942.

They moved from Colordo to Casper in 1944, where he worked as a fireman for Burlington Northern Railroad. For the last 30 years, he repaired string, brass and woodwind musical instruments, a skill he learned from his father, a violin maker.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, including Charles L. Tweedy of Gillette; a daughter; two granddaughters, including Gina Monk of Gillette; a brother; a sister; two nephews; and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.

Dana Lea Spurgin-Garcia - 12/12/02

Funeral services for Wheat Ridge, Colo., resident Dana Lea Spurgin-Garcia, 37, the daughter of a Gillette woman, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Casper with the Rev. O.G. Garcia from United Pentecostal Church in Riverton officiating.

Burial will follow at Wyoming Memorial Gardens in Casper.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at her home in Wheat Ridge. The death is being investigated as a murder.

Mrs. Garcia was born Oct. 26, 1965, in Conrad, Mont., to Danny L. Spurgin and Barbara Means. She attended Dean Morgan Junior High School and Natrona County High School.

On Oct. 19, 1984, she married Anthony Garcia in Tucson, Ariz. They moved to Denver, Colo., in 1987.

She always enjoyed meeting new people and enjoying their company. She loved camping and boating, listening to all kinds of music, and being with her family.

Mrs. Garcia is survived by her father and stepmother of Casper; her mother, Barbara Gales of Gillette; three sons; two daughters; two sisters; a brother; her grandparents; two half-sisters, Barbara Gillaspy and Evelyn Martin, both of Gillette; a half-brother, Donald Gales of Gillette; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Memorials may be made in her memory in care of Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Melton, 2/2/2003

Funeral services for Kenneth James Melton, 49, of Gillette will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Gillette with the Rev. Martin Crump officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Stevenson Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Melton died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in Odessa, Texas, of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 5, 1953, in Clinton, Ark., to Neil and Paula Bingham. As a toddler, he and his family moved to El Paso, Texas, where he was raised and educated.

After high school, he attended trade school in Fort Worth, Texas, earning his certification in mechanics. After school, he moved to Billings, Mont., to pursue his career in a machine shop.

He married Cindy Shima in Billings. They had twin children. They later divorced.

In 1987, he moved to Sheridan, where he worked for IPGI and he was part of creating the first hard chrome facility in Wyoming. In Sherian, he met Katie Panetta, and they married April 6, 1990, in Deadwood, S.D.

In late 1992, the couple moved to Gillette, where he began working for EMS. He was instrumental in creating the second hard chrome facility in Wyoming. There are only two in the state. He had been with the company for 10 years.

He created many stories and memories through his hobbies: walleye fishing, hunting and spending time in the Big Horns and in Sheridan.

He is survived by his wife, Katie of Gillette; son Tyler Eugene of Gillette; daughter Shawna Marie of Salt Lake City; father Neil of Odessa; brother Mickey Joe and sister, Sue, and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother.

A memorial is suggested in his name and can be sent to Stevenson Funeral Home, 210 W. Fifth St., Gillette, WY 82716.

A. Leone Vaughan - 04/07/03

Mass of Christian burial for Alice Leone Vaughan will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Gillette with the Rev. Thomas Kadera officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 today followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Janesville, Minn., with the Rev. Glenn Frerichs officiating, with burial following in the St. Anne's Cemetery near Janesville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. at the McRaith Funeral Home Chapel in Janesville.

Mrs. Vaughan, 97, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home of natural causes.

She was born June 12, 1905, to Martin and Hannah (Convey) Gallagher in Waseca County, Minn. She attended rural schools and graduated from the Bethlehem Academy in Fairbault, Minn.

For a short time, she had worked in a shoe factory before she married Joseph Vaughan on May 23, 1925, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Janesville. They moved to Austin, Minn., to raise their family and lived there for 37 years.

When they retired in 1962, they moved to Mesa, Ariz. Due to her husband's health they moved to Casper in 1972 to be near family. He died Nov., 10, 1973. Mrs. Vaughan continued to live in Casper for another 10 years, moving to Gillette in 1983.

She was a member of the St. Matthew's Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women in Gillette. She enjoyed baking, crocheting and playing Scrabble. She found great pleasure in playing the card game Minnesota 500 with Father Tom Kadera.

Mrs. Vaughan is survived by her son, Kenneth Vaughan of Austin; a daughter Eileen Walport of Gillette; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Dale Vaughan and Donald Vaughan.

A memorial has been established in Mrs. Vaughan's name and will be designated at a later date. Memorials can be sent in care of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. Fifth St., Gillette, WY 82716.
