Died Monday, April 15, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born February 9, 1918, in Acton, Montana
Parents - Ralph & Orpha (Oswald) Robinson

Grew up and graduated high school in Billings, MT. In high school, she was president of the Girls Athletic Assn. the first year it was formed. She was a member of the 1936 Champion Girls Basketball team the "Crickets". She also enjoyed tennis. After high school, she attended nurses training in Sheridan. She married Walter Brantz on June 9, 1939, in Red Lodge, MT. They lived in Lewistown, MT, Billings, Sheridan, Glendive, MT, and Butte, MT. They returned to Sheridan in 1983. She was active in many groups wherever they lived. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, cooking and playing bridge. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Gamma Masters Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother Charles.

Memorial service will be 10:00am on Friday (Apr. 19th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev.'s Ronald Nelson and Wilbur Holz officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery.

Elbert Brayton Chapin, Jr., age 80 of Sheridan, WY
Died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, in the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan
Born September 28, 1921, in Waterbury, Connecticut
Parents - Elbert & Violet (McCaul) Chapin, Sr.

He grew up and graduated from high school in Boonesville, NY, in 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He served in three landing in the Pacific at Guadalcanal, Pelilu and New Britain. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Conspicuous Service Medals. He was discharged 1946. After the war, he returned to Boonesville where he married Virginia Mae Strobel in 1948. He operated heavy equipment on the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway, Boyd Dam, Delta Dam and other construction projects until he retired. He came to Sheridan in 1991. He was involved with Word of Grace Outreach in sending relief packages to the Ukraine. He was a member of the NRA, VFW and the Marine Corps League. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, history, family genealogy, photography, rock collecting and jewelry making.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Funeral service will be 9:00am on Wednesday (May 22nd) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Father Michael Marquette officiating. Interment will be in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD. Military rites will be by the Marine Corps League.

Willo A. Chase Age 75 of Sheridan, WY
Died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born June 5, 1926, in Camp Cook, S. Dakota
Parents - Oswald & Harriet (Yarns) Swanson

She grew up in Harding County, SD. She attended nurses training in Minneapolis. She married Harold Chase on June 19, 1947, in Buffalo, SD. They lived in several places before coming to Sheridan in 1975. She enjoyed playing cards, baking, being outdoors and spending time with her family. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979; two sons Herbert & Samuel; one grandson Gregory; and two brothers Earl & Curtis.

Charles Daniel Conrad
Charles Daniel “Danny” Conrad was born July 20th, 1956, in Newcastle, Wyoming, to Dinah Daniel Conrad and Clayton R. Conrad. He grew up in Gillette, Wyoming, where he attended Campbell County High School. He loved sports, and was an outstanding member of both the Gillette Camels football and basketball teams. Following high school, he spent two years working for Conrad Construction Company, then a year in Texas with his grandmother, Mattie Daniel, where he attended Kilgore Junior College.

Danny enjoyed working with heavy equipment, and spent his early years working in the Powder River Basin oil and gas fields. He also spent several years working in the gold and silver mines of the Colorado Front Range and the Black Hills of South Dakota. The place he loved most, however, was the Story, Wyoming, area, where he had spent time when he was growing up, roaming the mountains and fishing the many lakes and streams. He therefore moved to a cabin in Story several years ago, where he worked as a fence builder and handy-man, helping any neighbor who needed assistance.

Danny died February 9, 2002, in Story, Wyoming. This is an irreparable loss for Danny’s family.

He is survived by his grandmother, Mattie Daniel, his mother and step-father, Dinah and Zen Merritt, one brother, one sister, a half-brother, a step-brother and sister, two uncles and aunts, one niece, two nephews, and four cousins.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials in Danny’s name to the Story Fire Department, or the donor’s choice, in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801, would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Dorothy A. Darnell,7 7, of Sheridan passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Darnell was born on April 29, 1925, to William and Pearl (Whitehorn) Braithwait in Spencer, Nebraska. Dorothy graduated from Spencer High School in May of 1943. On October 15, 1944, Dorothy married Arden “Mick” Darnell in Spencer, Nebraska. The couple has lived in California, Oregon, and most recently Scottsbluff, Nebraska, for 45 years, before moving to Sheridan in September of 1998 to be near their son.

Dorothy served as the secretary of the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska for 22 years. She enjoyed ceramics, reading, and cooking, and loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, and the Circle Two of her church.

Mrs. Darnell was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Dale and Howard Braithwait; and her sister Macel Kirwan. She is survived by her husband Arden of Sheridan; her two sons Michael and his wife Sharon of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Maurice and his wife Molly of Greeley, Colorado; her five grandchildren; her two step-grandchildren; her three sisters, Aura Mattson of Vancouver, Washington, Mildred Sall of Holdrege, Nebraska, Maxine Bjornsen of Verdigre, Nebraska; her brother Ronald Braithwait and his wife Lorraine of Norfolk, Nebraska, and her dear friends Kaye and Dean Mankhey of Lincoln, Nebraska.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 25, 2002. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Kane Funeral Home is handling the local arrangements.

The family has requested that memorials be made in Dorothy’s name to National Diabetes Research in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings and Loan P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Elwood “Woody” David, 74, of Sheridan, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2002, at Westview Health Care Center.
Mr. David was born on February 12, 1928, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Jonas and Erma (Branch) David. He married Phyllis Ridley in Forsyth, Montana, and later Bobbi J. Williams in Billings, Montana, and the couple made their home in Sheridan. Woody ranched at Decker, Montana, and rode rough stock and raced wild horses on the rodeo circuit. He was self-employed as a logger in the Big Horn Mountains, and worked as a heavy duty mechanic for Decker Coal for many years, retiring fifteen years ago. Following his retirement from Decker Coal, Woody also worked construction in South America. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1475 in Lusk, Wyoming.

Mr. David is survived by his wife Bobbi of Sheridan; his three daughters Melody A. Newell and husband Dennis of Esterbrook, Wyoming, Merry J. Potter and husband Dave of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Faye R. Potter and husband Gordon of Rapid City, South Dakota; his son Van and wife Pam of Big Horn, Wyoming; his ten grandchildren, Misty Haefele, Michelle Newell, Angela Newell, Rhonda Potter-Curry, Debbie Siemers, Sean Gilbert, Dennis David, Clint David, Eric Potter, and Tina Hunt; and his eleven great-grandchildren, Kimber Haefele, Halie Haefele, Shea Haefele, Shonda Haefele, Jaxin Curry, Brandon Siemers, Triston Siemers, Zakkary David, Kayla Potter, Bryce Hunt, and Shyana Hunt.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2002, at Kane Funeral Home with the Reverend Terral Bearden officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made in Woody’s name to the Elks Youth Rodeo in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, Wyoming 82801.

Robert I. Diefenderfer, 77, of Sheridan, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2001 at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Services are pending. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Lucas officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Margaret A. Draine Age 79 of Sheridan, WY
Died Friday, April 19, 2002, in Sheridan Manor
Born March 30, 1923, in Buffalo, WY
Parents - Herman & Anna (Askov) Christenson

She grew up on the family ranch near Kaycee, WY, and graduated from high school in Buffalo. She graduated from Great Falls Business College in Montana. During WWII, she worked at a military base in Albuquerque, NM. After the war, Margaret moved to Casper, WY, where she worked for True Oil Co. until she married Harry T. Draine on March 6, 1948, in Sheridan. They ranched in the Sheridan area until they moved to Gillette, WY. Mr. Draine died in 1971. Margaret moved to Sheridan in 1972 and worked for Mid Continent Oil Co. until she retired. She enjoyed reading and was an avid Wyo. Cowboys and Denver Broncos football fan.
