Martha “Alice” McConnaughey, 93, died Sunday July 28, 2002 in Sheridan Manor.

Miss McConnaughey was born January 21, 1909 in Highland County, Ohio to John W. and Elva (Willett) McConnaughey. She moved to Sheridan in 1916 and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1927.

Miss McConnaughey went to work for F. W. Woolworth store while in high school and continued to work there until she retired in 1974. During the war years, she was an assistant manager for the Woolworth store in Casper and a manager for the Woolworth store in Miles City, MT. Later she traveled to the Woolworth’s stores that were opening up and set up their offices.

After retirement, she traveled to all the places that she wanted to see and then went to work at Bi-Rite in Sheridan for several years. Miss McConnaughey always kept track of her many friends and relatives, and made jelly and other things for them regularly. She also made quilts from pieces her mother had put together for all of her family. She was a member of 1st United Methodist Church of Sheridan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by one sister, Nellie Kaufmann, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for Miss McConnaughey will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 7, 2002 in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph Keyes officiating. Burial of cremains will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials in memory of Miss McConnaughey may be made to the Easter Seal’s of Sheridan, in care of Delphine Toner, 1st Interstate Bank, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Marcia L. McNutt, 62, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Dayton, Wyoming, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2002, at her Dayton residence.

Marcia was born on March 23, 1940, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Gustav and Beatrice (Lee) Breitzke. She married James McNutt, Sr., in Sandwich, Massachusetts on September 26, 1981. Marcia loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed crafts and working with horses.

Mrs. McNutt was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Jim McNutt, Sr., of Indianapolis, IN; her son Keith Spence of Xian, China; her two daughters Debora Banton of Rustburg, VA, and Lorelei Spence of Dallas, TX; and her five grandchildren, Keely Spence, Evan Spence, Lindsey Spence, Richard Petroff, and Amanda Petroff.

Cremation has taken place, and private family memorial services will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Lois R. Moore
1912 - 2002
Lois R. Moore, age 89, of Sheridan, WY, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002, in Sheridan Manor.

Lois was born August 21, 1912, in Wasta, S. Dakota, to Timothy and Mayme (McAdarah) Ryan. She grew up and graduated from high school in Douglas, WY. Lois graduated from Barnes Business College in Denver, CO, in 1932. She worked in the County Treasurer's office in Douglas. She married William Moore in Douglas in 1938. They ranched on the Hell In Back Ranch at Ross, WY, until the 1940's when they moved to the Sheridan area and ranched on the 7UP Ranch. Lois kept the books for all the ranches. They moved into Sheridan in 1955. In 1963, they moved to Story, WY, and also spent time on their ranch in California until they retired in 1972. After retirement, they lived in Story and Sun City, Arizona. Lois spent a great deal of time playing golf and played at many different courses. She also enjoyed going out to dinner, dancing, traveling, and reading. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. Lois was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She was the sweetest of the sisters never having an unkind word to or about anyone. She always stayed in touch and relayed family news to the rest of the family.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband in 1990 and three sisters Rhoda Hunter, Betty Herbison and Helen Murphy.

Lois is survived by her sons Bob Moore & wife Connie of Clearmont, WY, Bill, Jr. and wife Frankie of Douglas, WY, and Roy & his wife Gloria of Casper, WY; daughter Kay Smith & husband Steve of Sheridan; sisters Ora Probst of Greybull, WY and Rita Wiese of Anaheim, CA; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 2:00pm on Wednesday, August 21, 2002, from Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Jessica Hope Parton, 15, of Sheridan, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2002.

Jessica was born on May 6, 1987, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Anthony and Andrea (Slates) Parton. She attended Big Horn schools until her freshman year, when she began attending Fort McKenzie High School. Jessica enjoyed playing basketball, spending time in the mountains, art, writing poems, and listening to her music, but she loved hanging out with her friends and spending time with her family.

Jessica was preceded in death by an infant brother. She is survived by her father Anthony Parton of Casper, Wyoming; her mother Andrea Slates of Sheridan; her two brothers Michael Parton of Sheridan, and Benjamin Parton of Olympia, Washington; her two sisters Jennifer Parker of Sheridan, and Christy Morman of Sparks, Nevada; her grandparents William and Frances Slates of Buffalo, Wyoming, and Marjorie Long of Sheridan; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2002, at Kane Funeral Home with Dr. Karl Hunt officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Big Horn, Wyoming. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

The family has requested that memorials be made in Jessica's name to Fort McKenzie High School in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Alice Phillips, 86, of Sheridan, WY, died Saturday August 3, 2002 in Westview Health Care Center.

Mrs. Phillips was born January 10, 1916 in Monarch, WY to Joseph and Minnie Maude (Rhine) Littler. The Littler family moved to Sheridan where Mrs. Phillips was raised and attended Sheridan schools. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1934.

Mrs. Phillips married David Phillips in Hardin, MT in 1939. They made their home in Sheridan, and Mrs. Phillips worked for the Sheridan School system from 1962 to 1972 as a custodian.

She enjoyed sewing, fishing, and loved the mountains. Every Sunday she and her husband would go for rides around the Sheridan area. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Sheridan.

Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 1 step-brother, and 1 step-sister. She is survived by her husband, Dave, of Sheridan; 2 sons, Don and his wife, Sylvia of Sheridan; Dave and his wife, Lorretta of Sheridan; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 6, 2002, from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Doolin officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials in memory of Mrs. Phillips may be made to Camp Bethal, Box 70, Dayton, WY 82836.

Alexander Pitsch, 88, of Ucross, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2002, at Westview Health Care Center.

Alex was born on May 14, 1914, to Peter and Katherine (Hettinger) Pitsch in Billings, Montana. Following his school years, he ranched his entire working life at the Big Red at Ucross, Wyoming. He married LeOra Mathew on June 2, 1935. Their union was blessed with seven children. He enjoyed hunting and farming. He loved his family, and called all of his granddaughters and great-granddaughters "Toots" and all of his grandsons and great-grandsons "Joe". Alex was a life-long, active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He served on numerous boards in the community and the state.

Mr. Pitsch was preceded in death by his parents , his four brothers, and his three sisters. He is survived by his wife LeOra of Sheridan; his three daughters Doris Schuman and her husband George, Jr., of Sheridan, Nelda Simonson and her husband Duane of Buffalo, Wyoming, and Patricia Ogan and her husband Ted of Reno, Nevada; his four sons Gerald Pitsch and his wife Vera of Oak Harbor, Washington, Leland Pitsch and his wife Della of St. Charles, Missouri, Curtis Pitsch and his wife Janice of Buffalo, Wyoming, and Peter Pitsch and his wife Madeleine of Rock Springs, Wyoming; his twenty-seven grandchildren; and thirty-four great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2002, at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2002, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor William Heine officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

The family has requested that memorials be made in Alex's name to the Christ Our Savior Mission in care of the LCMS District Office, 2400 Hickory Street, Casper, WY 82604.

William "Allen" Rabe, 94, of Sheridan, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.=20

Mr. Rabe was born on August 5, 1908, in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, to William and Pearl (Conley) Rabe. Following graduation from high school, Allen married Edweena Astin, and the couple were blessed with three children. He worked as a District Shop Foreman for the Wyoming Highway Department, retiring in 1974. Edweena passed away in 1982, and he later met Alta Foss. The couple was married in 1983, and they have made their home in Sheridan, spending the last 16 winters in Arizona. For the past two years, the couple has lived at Sugarland Ridge.

Allen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Masons, and enjoyed calling square dances for many years and spending time with his family.

Mr. Rabe was preceded in death by his first wife Edweena, his parents, his sister Irene, and his brother Herbert.. Survivors include his wife =
Alta of Sheridan; his son Tom and his wife Nita of Great Falls, Montana; his two daughters Lavon Cox and of Sheridan, and Luella Krinning and her husband Harold of Texas; and his twelve grandchildren, Art Rabe, Bonnie Walz, Cliff Rabe, Denise Town, Eric Rabe, Steve Cox, Ed Cox, Vicki Connally, Pam Harper, Kathy Malnerich, and Russell Krinning.

Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Doug Melius officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Allen's name to the Ronald McDonald House in Billings, Montana, in care of Kim Neperud or Elizabeth Thompkins, Sheridan State Bank, 29 North Gould Street, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Lloyd G. Rummel, age 59 of Sheridan, WY, died Monday, September 23, 2002, at his Sheridan home. He was born April 2, 1943, in Pennsylvania to Lloyd & Delma (Althoff) Rummel.

Lloyd grew up on the farm near Hanover, PA. He attended schools in Hanover. Lloyd served in Army from 1963 - 1966. After the service, Lloyd married Faye Jones on August 14, 1967, in Hanover. He moved to Wyoming and attended the University of WY. He then moved to Colorado where he received his Bachelor & Master's degrees from the University of Northern Colorado. He received his welding certificate in Ft. Collins, CO. They moved back to Pennsylvania where he taught welding at Westmoreland County Community College until moving to Sheridan in 1977. Lloyd came to Sheridan College as they were creating the Welding program and has been an instructor there ever since. Lloyd was heavily involved in Boy Scouts as well as the Sheridan Wesleyan Church where his served on the Board of Trustees and taught Sunday school. He was a member of the Masonic Big Horn Mtn. Lodge #43 and the Sheridan County Sportsmen's Association. Lloyd enjoyed model airplane flying, hunting and four wheeling, Ham radio, leather working, blacksmithing, gunsmithing and reloading.

Viewing will be 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday (Sep. 26th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00am on Friday from the Bruce Hoffman Golden Dome at Sheridan College with the Rev.'s Chuck Lucas, Bill Wetmore and Nathan Salo officiating. Interment will be in Hanover, PA.
