Died Tuesday, November 5, 2002, in the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan
Born January 18, 1949, in St. Paul, Nebraska
Parents - Arnold & Dorothy (Hinkle) Klein

He grew up and graduated high school in Wolbach, Nebraska. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam. He married Janis L. Calkins on June 18, 1973. Gayland worked as a truck driver, farm and ranch hand and the as a housekeeper at the V.A. Medical Center. He was a member of the VFW, Past Grand Commander of Military Order of Cootie and a life member of Pup Tent #7. Gayland enjoyed hunting, cooking holiday dinners, baking cookies & pies, gardening, lawn work and helping family and friends.

Preceded in death by his father and one brother Ronald.

Memorial service will be 1:00pm on Tuesday (Nov. 12th) from the chapel of the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan, with the Rev. Arden Haeffner officiating.
Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

John Austin Larson, age 50, of Sheridan, WY, died Friday, October 4, 2002, at his Sheridan home.
Memorial service will be 10:00am on Tuesday (Oct. 8th) from Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev.'s Ronald Nelson and Wilbur Holz officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Shelton Memorial Cemetery, Shelton, WA. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

John was born in Shelton, WA, on December 15, 1951, to Austin & Norma (Helmer) Larson. He graduated from Shelton High School in 1970. He enlisted in the Army in 1970 and served until 1973. In 1971, he married Christine Flint of Shelton and they were later divorced.

On March 18, 1983, John married Patricia Bents of Colorado Springs. They moved to Sheridan in 1984 and he worked as Sales Manager for Cobra Tires. In 1997, he started Grand Slam Security in Sheridan. John enjoyed the mountains, four wheeling, fishing and playing cribbage. He was known for his sense of humor, storytelling, handlebar mustache and cowboy hats.

Survivors include his wife Patty of Sheridan; his parents of Shelton, WA; brothers Bruce of Matlock, WA, and David of Seattle, WA; and nephews Joe and Erik Larson of Matlock, WA.

Memorials may benefit the New Hope Community Church, in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801

Claudia L. Manz Age 102, a resident of Sheridan, WY, for over 65 years
Died Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2002, in Sheridan Manor
Born November 2, 1900, in Wellington, Missouri, the second oldest of 11 children.
Parents - George & Anna Caroline (Breuer) Lay

She married Arthur Manz on January 19, 1925, in Littleton, CO. They moved to Sheridan where Mr. Manz worked for the railroad. Claudia worked as a sales clerk for several stores including The New York Store, which later was known as Stevens Fryberger Co. She also clerked at JC Penney and Humphreys. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in PEO.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister and four brothers.

Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Albert Martini, 83, of Sheridan, WY, died October 30, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Martini was born October 15, 1919 in Sheridan, WY to Egidio and Katherina (Prevadel) Martini. He grew up in Sheridan and attended Sheridan schools, graduating from Sheridan High School.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy, and at the time of his discharge, was a Pharmacist Mate, 1st Class. Mr. Martini married Jeane Martin November 18, 1944 in San Francisco, CA. They returned to Sheridan where Mr. Martini went to work for C. B. & Q. railroad, later Burlington Northern railroad, retiring as a conductor.

Mr. Martini was a member of Elk's Lodge #520, American Legion Post # 7, in which he was a 53 year member, and was an avid gardener.

Mr. Martini was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jeane; and 3 brothers.

He is survived by 2 sons, Richard and his wife Barb, of Florence, KY; and Robert, of Elizebethtown, PA; 3 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Martini will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Burial will be in the Elk's Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Martini may be made to the National Diabetes Association, in care of Delphine Toner, 1st Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY. 82801

Mona Moore, 46, of Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2002, at her residence. Rosary services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2002, at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2002, at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Tom Ogg officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Bobby Lee Morrison, 53, of Sheridan, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Morrison was born on April 3, 1949, in Imperial, Nebraska, to Edgar and Lela ( Smith) Morrison. Following his graduation from high school, he entered the Navy, and was honorably discharged in 1973. He married Robin Smiley on June 28, 1986, in Sheridan. Bobby received his Associate of Science Degree from Sheridan College in 1997. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and sports of all kinds. He loved to dance and spend time with his family. Of all the jobs he did throughout his life, he loved firefighting the most, and missed it terribly. Bobby had a quick wit and always had a comeback, and he always had people laughing. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Morrison was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife Robin of Sheridan; his three daughters, Shawna Heil of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Amanda Morrison of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Cassandra Morrison of Sheridan; his son Aaron Morrison of Sheridan; his three grandchildren, Erik Heil, Joseph Arguello, and Emilio Arguello; his mother Lela Washburn of Rockhill, South Carolina; his three sisters, Linda Morrison, Jodi Schwartz, and Wanda of Colorado; his two brothers, Edgar Morrison of Maryland and Donny Morrison of Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2002 at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2002, at Kane Funeral Home with Reverend Arthur Maendl officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. The family has requested that memorials be made in Bobby's name to the First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Donald Carl Nelson age 63 of Sheridan, WY
Died Saturday, November 2, 2002, at his Sheridan home.
Born May 21, 1939, in Hardin, Montana
Parents - Carl & Dorothy (Loeber) Nelson
The family moved to the Sheridan area when he was nine months old. He attended Wakeley School and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1957. He enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1957 - 1961. After the service, he returned to Sheridan where he worked for Sheridan Electric City. Donald married LaVonne Gentz on June 15, 1968. He worked for Northern Lumber Co. and several other businesses until he 1990 when he went to work for Westview Health Care Center where he worked until he retired in 2001. Donald was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed woodcarving and gun collecting.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert H. Baker.

Funeral service will be 11:00am on Wednesday (Nov. 6th) from the Church of Christ with Minister Jim Hale officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Military rites are by the American Legion and Wyo. National Guard.
Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Lorie Ann Nixon, 42, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Lorie was born on November 22, 1960, to Chris Monson and Barbara Scharf in Deer Lodge, Montana. After finishing school, Lorie moved to Gillette in 1983 and then to Sheridan. Lorie was a housekeeper and was employed with Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Lorie enjoyed her job and she loved all the people she worked with. She loved the outdoors, her favorite summer getaway was Meadowlark Lake in the Bighorn Mountains. She also loved animals big and small. Her favorite animals were dolphins. She loved her three children, granddaughter and her family. She was a kind and a very giving person. She collected angels, and she is an angel among angels now.

Lorie was preceded in death by her father Chris Monson, her brother Larry Monson, and her sisters Lydin Chamberlin and Leslie Monson. Survivors include her parents, Barbara and Edward Johnson of Missoula, Montana, her sons Ronny Nixon and Jayme Nixon of Sheridan, her daughter, Barbara Hayes of Sheridan, her sister Charlotte and husband John Molendyke of Deer Lodge, Montana, her sister Lorean and her husband Marvin Newbrough of Sheridan, her favorite nephew, Kris Monson of Sheridan,and one granddaughter, Brittany Nixon.

Memorial Services will be held at the Sheridan Foursquare Church on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Scott McDougall officiating. Inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date in Deer Lodge, Montana In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lorie's name to the Sheridan Foursquare Church, or the diabetes treatment unit at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Loretta P. Norwash, 65, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Loretta was born on November 29, 1936, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Elgin and Roberta (Richards) Ekis. She loved her family, nature, her pets, movies, and going on picnics. Her favorite song was "Seven Spanish Angels". We children could not have asked for a better mother and friend. We love you, Mom.

Mrs. Norwash was preceded in death by her son Steven Norwash; her parents; and two of her brothers LeRoy and Ralph Ekis. Survivors include her two children Shirley K. Norwash and Jay V. Norwash; her sister Elizabeth Parsons; and her brothers Charles Ekis, Robert Ekis, and James Ekis.

Cremation has taken place, and private family memorial services will be held at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

The family has requested that memorials be made in Loretta's name to the Sheridan Dog & Cat Shelter in care of Delphine Toner,First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Edna Earl Panetta, 82, formerly of Sheridan, Wyoming, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2002, at Pioneer Manor in Gillette, Wyoming.

Mrs. Panetta was born on June 14, 1920, to James and Ella (Patterson) Taylor in Briggs, Texas, and she was raised and educated in Texas. Upon graduation from high school in 1937, she completed three years of nurses training at Tarrent County General Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. She served in the Army Nurse Corps from February of 1941 to January of 1946, being stationed in Hawaii during that time. After the war, while visiting relatives in Sheridan, Edna met and later married Walter Panetta. She worked as a nurse at the Sheridan V.A. Medical Center until her retirement.

Edna loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her pets. She also enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, and going to auction sales.

Mrs. Panetta was preceded in death by her husband in 1982, two sisters, and one brother. She is survived by her two daughters, Pam Winterholler and her husband Mike of Sheridan and Katie Melton and her husband Ken of Gillette; her two grandchildren; and her two great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2002, at Kane Funeral Home in Sheridan. Interment will follow the memorial service in the Elks Cemetery in Sheridan. Kane Funeral Home is handling the local arrangements.

The family has requested that memorials be made in Edna's name to the Dog and Cat Shelter, the Big Horn Education Fund, or the donor's choice, all in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.
