Lucille M. Wilson 91, of Sheridan, WY, died Thursday, May 8, 2003 in Sheridan Manor.

Mrs. Wilson was born May 27, 1911 in Sedalia, Missouri to Claude and Rose (Godsey) Irwin. She moved with her parents and brother to Wyoming when she was a young girl.

She met her husband, Laeyton Wilson, in Gillette when he was a traveling light plant installer with his father. They were married in Albin, NB in 1929. They traveled for several years before settling in Gillette. Lucile was a metal lather operator at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, California during W. W. II.

They then returned to Wyoming where they owned and operated Arrow Head Lodge in the Big Horns, and later Trailside above Buffalo, retiring in the early 1960's. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson shared a life worth of experiences including a fishing boat rental business at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.

Mrs. Wilson was an accomplished seamstress, and a creative artist. She loved all animals and many times would crawl under a fence using her belt as a halter to ride unknown horses bareback.

In later years the important things in her life were her grandsons, her pets; always a cocker spaniel and cat, her yard, trees and her flowers.

Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Laeyton, and her brother. She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Elkins and her husband, Jack, of Sheridan; 2 grandsons, John Elkins of Sheridan, and Jerry Elkins of Nevada; 7 great grandchildren; and 13 great, great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service for Mrs. Wilson will be held at the 7th Day Adventist Church in Sheridan at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Anna K. Zowada, age 95 of Sheridan, WY
Died Friday May 9, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born April 27, 1908 in Dietz, WY
Parents - John and Cecelia (Kiezek) Mentock

She grew up and attended school in Dietz. Anna married Michael Zowada on April 25, 1926 at St. THomas Catholic Church in Monarch, WY. They lived in Dietz until establishing their home in Acme, WY, in 1933. MR. Zowada died in 1956 and she later moved into Sheridan. Anna was a membeer of hte VFW Auxiliary, AMerican Legion AUxiliary, Turtles and Holy Name Catholic Church. SHe was an avid bingo player and enjoyed cooking and family gatherings.

She was proceeded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Vigil service will be 7pm on Monday (May 12th) from Champion Ferris Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10am on Tuesday from Champion Ferris Funeral Home with Father Thomas Ogg officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetary.

Theresa Barbula, 81, of Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Sheridan Manor.

Theresa was born on August 29, 1921, in Poposia, Wyoming, to Charles and Mary (Tomori) Gazdik. Following her school years, on June 22, 1940, she married Edward Barbula in Monarch, Wyoming. Their union was blessed with two children. Theresa and Edward owned Bruno's Nightclub. Theresa enjoyed embroidery and dancing, and she loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Barbula was preceded in death by her husband Edward; her parents; and her brother Louis Gazdik. Survivors include her son John and his wife Shelley of Ranchester; her daughter Shirley and her husband Ole of Sheridan; her 5 grandchildren; her 7 great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Betty E. Berta of Sheridan and Mary Berta of Georgia; her brother Charles Gazdik and his wife Nora of Sheridan.

The Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2003, at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Holy Name Catholic Church with The Reverend Thomas Ogg officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

The family has requested that memorials be made in Theresa's name to Holy Name Catholic Church in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Shirley M. Evers age 76 of Sheridan, WY
Died Thursday, April 24, 2003, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan
Born December 23, 1926, in Cass Lake, Minnesota
Parents - William & Mabel (Matheson) Logan

She grew up and graduated high school in Minnesota. Shirley married Dan Evers in 1946 in Big Stone City, S. Dakota. They moved to Casper, WY, in about 1950 and then came to Story, WY, in 1958. In Story, she operated the Village Inn restaurant for several years. They moved into Sheridan in 1985. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Beta Sigma Phi and the Story Women's Club. Shirley enjoyed cooking, collecting cookbooks, playing bridge and was an avid reader.

Preceded in death by her husband Dan and a sister Vera Tice.

Memorial service will be 10:00am on Wednesday (Apr. 30th) from St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev.'s David Duprey and Kevin Jones officiating.
Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Pauline Fletchall, 81, of Sheridan, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County with her family by her side.

Mrs. Fletchall was born November 30, 1921, in Sheridan to Ida (Schreibeis) Walker and Ralph Walker. They both preceded her in death, together with the two aunts, Frieda and Lena Schreibeis, who helped raise her.

Pauline married John Slovak and one daughter, Cheryl, was born to their union. They were later divorced. She then married Jim Fletchall and they had a son, Jim.

During her earlier years, she worked at the Courthouse for four years, then in the office as personal secretary for J.P. Croff. She and her husband owned and operated Quality TV in downtown Sheridan before moving the operation to their home.

Pauline loved to cook and was very proficient at it. If she knew her family was coming to visit, she would always make their favorite foods. Her family meant the world to her. She loved fishing in the mountains, and particularly enjoyed it when she would out-fish her husband.

Pauline is survived by her husband Jim of nearly 50 years; her son Jim of Sheridan; her daughter Cheryl Ehrmantraut of Billings, Montana; her granddaughter Brandi Hazen and her husband Wes of Billings, Montana; and her great-grandchildren, Christina, Stephanie, Branden, and Makenna Hazen of Billings, Montana

Cremation has taken place in Sheridan, and at Pauline's request, no services will be held. The family will inurn her cremains privately at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

The family has requested that memorials be made in Pauline's name to the Sheridan Cat & Dog Shelter in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Violet G. Frigo age 84 of Sheridan, WY
Died Monday, April 7, 2003
Born June 30, 1918, in Chicago, Illinois
Parents - Albert, Jr. & Gertrude (Scholl) Vinke

She married Fred Frigo on October 28, 1939. They came to Sheridan in 1948.

Preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother Albert.

Viewing will be 1:00pm until 5:00pm on Wednesday (Apr. 9th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 10:00am on Thursday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, Elks section, with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating.
Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Philip R. Gifford, Sr., 79, of Sheridan, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at the Sheridan V.A. Medical Center.

Phil was born on June 30, 1923, in Parkman, Wyoming. He attended Holy Name School and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1943. Following graduation, he entered the Navy, and applied for and was accepted for duty with the submarine fleet. Phil was assigned to duty on the USS Narwhal SS-167 in the South Pacific and the Philippines from 1943 until 1946, when he was discharged at Ledo Beach, Long Island. He married Maxine Bilyeu on December 31, 1947.

After Phil returned from WWII, he worked for the Sheridan Press for 13 years as a typesetter and operated the Arrowhead Lodge restaurant for a short period, along with his wife and relatives. He left the Press to pursue his love of carpentry. He owned and operated his own general contracting company until he retired. During his contracting years, he built and remodeled numerous homes and businesses in Sheridan, Buffalo, and the surrounding areas. During retirement and throughout his life, Phil loved to cook, raise gardens, follow the Wyoming Cowboy football and basketball teams, camp, hunt, and fish in his beloved Big Horn Mountains, travel, and play Keno. For the past two years, he received at great deal of tender loving care at the V.A. Nursing Home, where he lived. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion.

Mr. Gifford was preceded in death by his daughter Claudia K. Plachek; his father Roy E. Gifford; his mother Clara B. (Johnson) Gifford; his two brothers Gene and Charles; and his four sisters Josephine Bohlin, Florence Brandt, Ella Neva, and Irene Kehrwald.. He is survived by his wife Maxine of Sheridan; his four sons, Philip Jr. and his wife Linda, Rodney and his wife Mary Beth, and Edward, all of Sheridan, and Richard of Rock Springs, Wyoming; his five granddaughters, Angela Dinkel, Holly Gifford, Courtney Gifford, Whitney Gifford, and Heather Gifford; and his two great-granddaughters, Kassidy and Kaitlyn. He always had a special place for his nephew Art Sturdevant and his niece Shirley Genereaux.

Cremation has taken place in Sheridan, and a Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2003, at Holy Name Catholic Church with The Reverend Ron Stolcis officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

The family has requested that memorials be made in Phil's name to the V. A. Medical Center, the Sheridan Elks Lodge 520, or the Sheridan Dog & Cat Shelter in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Carmen Graunke,71, of Sheridan, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Westview Health Care Center.

Carmen was born on July 28, 1931, in Rushville, Nebraska, to Joe and Hallie (Beguin) Dieriex. On June 12, 1950, she married David Graunke in Rushville, Nebraska. Their union was blessed with two children. Carmen will be remembered for her love of family, friends, her home and her gardens.

Mrs. Graunke was preceded in death by her husband David; her father Joe Dieriex; and her brother Tom Dieriex. Survivors include her mother Hallie Jackson of Rushville, Nebraska; her two sons, Steve and Kenna of Lander, Wyoming, and Doug and his wife Tammie of Soda Springs, Idaho; her two grandchildren; and her sister Betty of Chadron, Nebraska.

At Carmen's request, cremation has taken place in Sheridan, and the family will receive friends at Carmen's home on Thursday evening, April 17, 2003, after 6:00 p.m. to celebrate her life. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

The family has requested that memorials be made in honor of Carmen Graunke to the Sheridan Senior Center in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.
