Helen I. Ellis, 88, of Sheridan, WY, died Friday, August 1, 2003 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Mrs. Ellis was born January 24, 1915 in Milan, Missouri to John Samuel and Sue M. (Daze) Owings.
She grew up and attended schools in Laurel, MT and Sheridan, WY. She graduated from high school from Laramie Prep, and attended the University of Wyoming. She married Raymond Ellis January 14, 1935 in Custer, S. D. They lived in Upton, WY and moved to Sheridan in 1943. Mrs. Ellis lived in Sheridan until her death. She ran Louie’s Hamburger Stand when Louie would return to the old country.
Mrs. Ellis was a member of the Jehovah Witness Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 brother, 1 sister, and 1 grandson.
She is survived by two daughters; Helen Rae Williams, of Cheyenne, WY, and Frances Lee Deutcsh of Sheridan, WY; 1 brother, Leland Owings, of Sheridan, WY; 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren.
Private family graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 4, 2003 in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Jehovah Witness Church officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Jacob Anton Heil, 62, of Sheridan, passed away on Saturday, August 9,2003 at his family's home in Sheridan.
Jacob was born on September 19,1940, in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, to Nicholas and Johanna (Zacher) Heil. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Moose, Eagles, and Elks clubs in Sheridan.
Mr. Heil was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his son Steve Heil and his wife Ann of Sheridan; his daughter Sharon Strong and he husband Kyle of Pheoniz, AZ; his three grandchildren, Colten Heil, Trenton Heil, and Brock Heil; his sister Dee Bordeaux and he husband Jim of Sheridan; his brothers Bob Heil of Billings, MT; his niece Sue Bordeaux and her husband Matt Conrad of Pheonix, AZ; and his nephew Chip Lemons and his wife Tracy of Pheonix, AZ.
Cremations has taken place in Sheridan. A private family memorial service has ben scheduled. KAne Funeral Home is handling that arrangements.

Lynn Oliver Howes , 51, of Sheridan, WY, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003 in Memorial Hospital of Sheidan County. Ms Howes was born Spetember 17, 1951 i, in Buffalo WY, to Bob and Cynthia (Brittian-Quale) Freese. When she as 5 years old, she was adopted by A.J. and Madge Oliver. Sher grew up in Sheridan with her sister, Pam and brother, Drew, and attended Sheridan Schools.
Ms. Howes started her family in Sheridan; moving to Utah and Arizona, then returning to WY and Sheridan. She was a self-employed horse caretaker.
She was associated with the Big Horn Women's Sciety, the Occidental Hotel and the Jim Gatchell Museum in Buffalo. She loved her family. loved horses, writing and loved helping other people.
Ms. Howes was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister and her aunt Fannie.
She is survived by 2 sons, Israel James Howes of Sacramento CA, and Josua Reed Howes of Pheonix, AZ; 2 daughters Carrie Marie Oliver of Sacraments, CA and Mindy "Melinda" Newbury of Sheridan, Wy; 1 brother, Drew Oliver of Mt. Vernon, WA; 1 sister, Carlina and 1 grand child, Andrew Hayden of Averill of Sheridan and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation for Ms. Howes will be from 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday, August 25, 2003 at Champion Ferries Funeral Hom. Funeral service for Ms. Howes will be 11:00AM Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Raymond Clark officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held after the service.

Doris J. Jarchow, 77, of Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at Westview Health Care Center.
Doris was born on April 26,1926, in South Dakota to George and Thelma (Jarrett) Severtson. She married Ronald Jarchow on December 27, 1958 and their union was blessed with two sons.
Mrs. Jarchow was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Dale Severtson. Survivors include her husband, Ronald of Sheridan; her two sons Kurt Jarchow of Virginia Beach, VA and Eric Jarchow of Minneapolis, MN; her three grandchildren ; her three sisters, Malene O'Brien of Vienna, VA, Norma Dove of Round Hill, VA, and Beth Thompson of Mathews, VA; and her two brothers Kern Severtson of Wylie, TX and Rock Severtson of Plano, TX.
Cremation has taken place in Sheridan. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
James H. Lutz, 85, of Sheridan died peacefully at a local care center on August 30,2003.
James was born in Herman, Minnesota, on March 9, 1918, to Clarence and Marie (Leis) Lutz. James moved to Ranchester with his parents at the age of three. He attended school in Ranchester.
He married Rose Marie Troche on May 4, 1941. Their 62 years of marriage were filled with many happy and eventful times. James was a avid hunter and fisherman and spent most of his spare time in the spectacular Big Horn Mountains. He loved to talk about huniting trips with the many friends he and Rose made and enjoyed over the years.
James went to work for the CB&Q railroad in 1936 at the age of 18. He retired 42 years later as track supervisor. He was a lifetime member of the Elks.
James battled cancer for 18 years. He refused to let the disease or related medical treatments interfere with his love for the outdoors. Right after treatments in Billings he would return home and immediately go to work in the garden of pack his gear and head for the mountains. James was a fighter with an exceptionaly strong desire and love for life.
Survivors include his wife Rose of Sheridan; and his two sisters, Theresia Ogilvie and Lillian Hawkey, both of Sheridan.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2003, from 8:00am until 4:00pm at Kane Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Thursda, September 4, 2003 at 2:00pm at the Elks Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Edward McGough
Edward M. McGough, 85, of Sheridan, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2003, in Sheridan..
Edward was born on December 30, 1917 in Watertown, Connecticut to James and Mary (Ryan) McGough. His parents immigrated from Ireland in the late 1800's. As a young teenager Edward left home to attend the Seamen’s Institute in New York, he then sailed the seas on a freighter in the European trade. Later, during World War II, in the U.S. Navy, he flew in shipbased aircraft in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatres, as well as spending a year and a half on a jungle island. After the war he attended agriculture college in California where he met and married Hilda F. Wolfe. They were blessed with three children. Through the years he worked on cattle ranches, both of the mountain and prairie kind in California, Colorado, and Wyoming. He had been known to say he liked good horses and cattle, tall mountain ranges and fine people he had met living in this big western country. Ed and Hilda always had a penchant for remote places. After their children were grown they pulled stakes and worked out of a cow camp in a roadless area of the mountain, summer and winter, for twelve years. The setting, as well as the days work, were much the same as that portrayed in his five published books.
Mr. McGough was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Hilda of Sheridan; his two sons, Timothy and David of Montana; a daughter Kathleen of Aurora, CO; and his five grandchildren.
No memorial services have been scheduled.

Mildred C. Neumayer, 81, of Big Horn, WY, died Sunday, August 3, 2003 at her residence in Big Horn.
Mrs. Neumayer was born January 29, 1922 in Almont, Michigan to Joseph and Clara (Forton) Drinkhorn. She grew up in Armada, Michigan, and attended Armada Center Country School and Almont High School.
Mrs. Neumayer married Nick Morris Neumayer December 31, 1942. She was a homemaker, and made and donated quilts to the Make a Wish Foundation, made baby quilts for the newborns in the Lewistown, MT Hospital and made baby quilts for the newborns in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed dancing, quilting, and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Neumayer was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 2 sisters, and 4 grandchildren.
She is survived by 3 sons; Nick Neumayer of Big Horn, Wayne (Butch) Neumayer of Chinook, MT, and Francis Neumayer of CA; 3 daughters; Wilma Johnston of Lewistown, MT, Marlene Lilly of Big Horn, WY, and Elaine Keister of Pasco, WA; 1 brother, Joe Drinkhorn of Armada, Michigan; 20 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren.
Paul Joseph Pawlus, 89, of Sheridan, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2003, at Westview Health Care Center.
Paul was born on May 8, 1914, in Kleenburn, Wyoming, to Joseph and Anna (Johemek) Pawlus. When he was four years old the family moved to a farm on Early Creek where he lived his entire life. On October 25, 1943, he married Josephine Roswadovski and their marriage was blessed with two daughters. He worked in the Holly Sugar Factory, underground mines at Kleenburn and Acme, the BN railroad, and on the family farm. Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, macrame, playing the harmonica and gardening. He made friends easily and loved to visit.
Mr. Pawlus was preceded in death by his wife Josephine in 1989; his parents; and his two brothers, John and Joe. Survivors include his two daughters, JoAnn Hayworth (Pat) of Colstrip, MT and Wilma Bomar (Ron) of Ranchester; his grandchildren, Ronda Roush (Dave), Randy Bomar (Stephanie) of Sheridan, Emmy Hill (JD) of St. Anthony, ID, and Owen Hayworth (Sara) of Sheridan; and his three great-grandchildren, Peyton and Brock Bomar and Shayna Newman, with a fourth great-grandchild expected in September.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2003, at 10:00 am at Kane Funeral Home with The Reverend Thomas Ogg oficiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Janet Marie Richards, 61 of Sheridan, passed away on Saturdya, August 9,2003 at her home in Sheridan.
Janet was born on August 8, 1942, in Minot, North Dakota, to Harold and Ora (Howie) Maurer. On August 9,1976, she married Clare "Sonny" Richards in Sheridan. She enjoyed crafts, writin poetry, working and playing bingo with her friends, and going places ith her friend Donna. Janet worked as a cook and waitress at various Sheridan business. She belonged to the Big Horn Mountain Eagles Auxiliary 4169.
Mrs. Richards was preceded in death by her father Harold Maurer; and her grandparents Ada and Fred Maurer and Thea and John Howie. Survivors include her husband Sonny of Sheridan; her mother her three sisters, Hazel and her husband Julio Rotolo of Sheridan and Connie and her husband Tim Johnson and Helen and her husband Paul Deutsch both of Ranchester; her two brothers, Jame Maurer and John Maurer both of Sheridan; the daughter of her heart Dana and her husband Brad Willhelm and their son Seth; and numerous nieces and nephews, step children and step grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at 2:00pm at the Big Horn Mountain Eagles 4169 located at 1760 Commercial Avenue, Sheridan, WY. Janet's requst her cremains will be scattered.

Richard Dean Smith
U.S. Navy Veteran Richard Dean Smith’s battle was over the afternoon of Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at his home away from home, the Sheridan V.A. Hospital where he had the most dedicated and loving care from the staff.
Dean graduated from Billings Senior High School, and Billings Automotive College. He worked at the Yellowstone Boys Ranch as well as other jobs. His love of country and family was always evident. He was a caring, thoughtful, and generous Son, Brother, and Uncle. We shall miss his daily phone calls.
Mr. Smith is survived by his parents, Clem and Alberta Smith; his four brothers, Terry of Alder, MT, Mike, Patrick, and Gregory, all of Billings; and many cousins, nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, and sister-in-laws.
No services are planned in Billings. A memorial service at the VA Chapel in Sheridan is planned for Friday, August 29, 2003, at 2:30pm.
