Harold C. Green, 83, of Sheridan, WY, died Thursday, March 11, 2004 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Mr. Green was born November 20, 1920 in Passaic, WY to Lowell C. and Mary (Kerr) Green, Jr. He grew up and attended schools in the Sheridan area, graduating from Sheridan High School in 1939.

He worked on several ranches in the Sheridan area before moving to San Diego, CA where he worked for Consolidated Aircraft Co. Mr. Green joined the U. S. Air Force in 1941 where he was a pilot flying B 17’s in England during W.W. II. He was discharged from the Air Force in 1945 as a 1st Lt.

Mr. Green returned to Sheridan where he went to work for the PMA, the Montgomery Wards store in the shoe department, and did carpenter work for several construction companies before going to work for the V.A. Medical Center in the engineering department. Mr. Green retired from the V. A. Medical Center in 1985.

He was a life member of Sheridan Elk’s Lodge #520, a member the NRA association for many years, and a member of American Legion John Donald Garbutt Post #7. Mr. Green was an avid hunter, fisherman, loved bowling and playing cribbage.

Mr. Green was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.

He is survived by Angele Cetrone, of Sheridan; one brother, Dale Green, of Sheridan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Green will be from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Monday, March 15th, and Tuesday, March 16th, and from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Green will be 2:00 PM March 17, 2004 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Father David Duprey officiating. Burial will be in the Elk’s Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Military Honor’s by the Wyoming National Guard and American Legion Post #7. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Green may be made to the Elk’s Cemetery Fund, 45 W. Brundage St, Sheridan, or to the charity of the donor’s choice, in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P. O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801

Barbara Z. Kawulok of Sheridan, WY, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County after a five-year courageous battle with cancer with her family by her side.

Barbara was born February 17, 1936 in Kearney, NB to Dale and Margaret (Crawford) Kriz.

She is survived by her husband, Paul J. Kawulok, of Sheridan, WY; one son, Paul Kawulok, of San Jose, CA; three daughters, Barbara Doyle, of Gillette, WY, Joen Huggins, of Story, WY, and Mary Redman, of Sheridan, WY; one brother, Robert Kriz, of Toledo, OR; two sisters, Margaret Kriz, of Chico, CA, and Nancy Waggoner, of Buffalo, WY; 4 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

At Barbara’s request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Barbara’s entire life was devoted to giving to family and friends. Her final wish was to help a friend fight and win her battle with cancer. Donald E. Lundberg, 79, of Sheridan, WY, died Friday, March 19, 2004 in the Sheridan V. A. Medical Center.

Mr. Lundberg was born June 16, 1924 in Kimberly, MN to Peter and Betsy (Sogard) Lundberg. He grew up and attended school in Kimberly and High School in Aitken. At the age of 20, he joined the USAF and became a nose gunner on B-24 Liberators for the 461st Bomb Group based out of Italy. His crew completed 35 successful missions over Italy, Austria, and Germany from August 1944 through February 1945.

He married Katherine E. Oustad from Duluth, MN on April 21st, 1945 and they farmed on the Kimberly family farm until they moved to Southern California in 1951. He worked as an engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad and later the Western Pacific Railroad in Quincy, CA until he retired in 1986. They traveled extensively in their motorhome after retiring. Don liked to camp, boat, and fish. They volunteered for the US Forest Service as campground hosts at Prune Creek and Sibley campgrounds in the Big Horn Mountains of northern Wyoming for 11 years.

Mr. Lundberg was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine, of Sheridan, WY; one son, Peter Lundberg, of Oakland, CA; three daughters, Lucionne Homberg, of Laurel, Maryland, Kristin Lundberg, currently in Laos, and Tamara Lundberg Westbrook, of Carbondale, CA; one brother, Gerry Lundberg, of Aitken, MN; one sister, Lorraine Erickson, of Aitken, MN; 4 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services for Mr. Lundberg will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Sorenson-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitken, MN. Interment with military honors will be in the Forrest Cemetery, Aitken, MN. Local arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Fred J. Luth, 89, of Pass Creek, WY, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Fred was born May 24, 1914 on the family ranch on Taffner Creek west of Parkman, WY, to William and Bertha (Rohwer) Luth.

He grew up and started his ranching life with his mother and uncle on the family ranch, which is still in the family to this day. Fred married Dorothy Needham June 16, 1947 in Sheridan. Fred became the ranch manager for the X-X Ranch on Pass Creek in 1952, and was still living at the X-X Ranch at the time of his death.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Maria Souder, Kay Luth, and Pen Schunk.

He is survived by his wife, Dee, of Pass Creek; two daughters, Gay Hale, and Linda Shurter, both of Sheridan; two grandchildren, of Sheridan; one niece, of Scottsdale, AZ; one nephew, of Colorado Springs, CO; and numerous friends.

At the family’s request, cremation has taken place, and there will be a private family service at a later date. Champion Ferries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials in memory of Fred may be made to the Sheridan Animal Shelter, 84 East Ridge Rd., Sheridan, WY 82801

Edna Marie Meline, age 95, of Sheridan, WY, died Monday, March 29, 2004, in Sheridan Manor.

She was born on the family farm on August 24, 1908, near Verona, N. Dakota to Ingverd and Anna (Lippert) Arenkiel. In 1928, she met Theodore W. Meline of LaMoure, N. Dakota and they were married on August 7, 1929, at Oakes, ND. They moved to Eagle Grove, IA and in 1939 they moved to Webster City, IA where Ted worked for Beam Manufacturing Co. and later for W.C.I. Products. Edna was employed at the Hahne Printing Co. for 24 years, retiring in 1972. Edna and Ted celebrated 67 years of marriage prior to his death in 1997. She was a long time member of the First Congregational Church UCC, Church circles, and the Senior Citizen’s Center of Webster City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 11 brothers and sisters.

Edna is survived by two daughters Joan (Claude) McClain of Naples, FL and Charlotte Frary, Monroe, MI; son Theodore R. (Carolyn) Meline of Sheridan; five grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be later in Webster City, Iowa.
Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Gerald E. Nordahl, 80 of Ranchesster, WY, died Wednesday, March 17,2004 at his residence.

Mr. Nordahl was born December 4, 19232 in Wheat Basin, MT to George S. and Mary V. (Banfill) Nordahls. He grew up int he Wheat Basin area, and joined the Coast Guard in 1943. Mr. Nordahl was dishcharged in 1946 and returned to MT where he farmed until is retirement.

Mr. Nordahl was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by one sister, Anna Thiel, or Rifle, CO.

Private graveside services by Mr. Nordahl will be held in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Robert Ray Phillips, 72, of Ranchester died Sunday, March 14, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Sheridan with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Cremation will take place with internment in Whitesboro, Texas at a later date.

Mr. Phillips was born Sept. 16, 1931, in Osage, Arkansas, to Galford and Golda Phillips. He grew up in Felt, Okla., where he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Reuben and Inez Phillips. He graduated from Felt High School in 1950, and then attended Panhandle A&M College before being drafted. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. In 1958 he received his bachelors degree from Panhandle A&M, and later received a masters degree in education from Northwestern State College, Alva, Okla. He taught school in Texahoma, Okla., and Tyrone, Okla., where he met his future wife.

He married Anita L. Squires in Dalhart, Texas, on Nov. 7, 1964. In 1967, he accepted a teaching position in mathematics at Tongue River High School in Dayton, where he also coached basketball for several years. He was a lifetime member of the National Education Association (NEA) and served a term as president of the local Wyoming Education Association chapter. He retired from TRHS in 1984.

An avid outdoorsman throughout his life, Mr. Phillips enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in the Big Horn Mountains.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Anita of Ranchester; a son, Joel Phillips of Sunnyvale, Calif.; a daughter, Elizabeth Phillips of Oceanside, Calif; and a nephew Robert Mitchell of Concord, Calif.

Berniece T. Renie, age 95, of Story, WY, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at home in Story.

She was born December 23, 1908, in Dayton, WY, to Edward & Benita (Dow) Townsend

She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. Berniece married George Renie in May 1928, in Billings, MT. George died in February 1975.

She was preceded in death by one brother Edward and one sister Peggy Miller.

Surviving relatives include her sister Dora Davidson of Story, WY; two brothers James Townsend of Sheridan and Roy Townsend of Billings, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At the request of Mrs. Renie, there will be no funeral service.
Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Doris Mae Sells, 90, of Sheridan, WY, died Friday, March 19, 2004 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Mrs. Sells was born in Sheridan, WY October 27, 1913 to George D. and Ella (Stevens) Nottingham. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan before moving with her family to Thermopolis, WY in 1925. Mrs. Sells then attended Thermopolis schools and Thermopolis High School.

The family returned to Sheridan where they lived on a ranch on Big Goose. Mrs. Sells married George Sells October 24, 1934 in Hardin, MT. The Sells returned to Sheridan where Mrs. Sells became a homemaker and mother. Mr. Sells died April 10, 1980.

Mrs. Sells enjoyed painting, playing cards, was a very talented cake decorator, and loved spending time with her family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 son, 1 daughter, 1 grandson, and 1 great grandson.

Mrs. Sells in survived by two sons, Gary Sells, of Bombay Beach, CA, and Kirby Sells, of Casper, WY; one daughter, Karen Shanor, of Ranchester, WY; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 6 great, great grandchildren.

At Mrs. Sells request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
