A Rosary service for Big Horn resident Ida Irene Nussbacher, 84, the grandmother of a Gillette resident, was at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home in Sheridan.

Debra Lee Zeleny - 04/08/03

Funeral services for Debra Lee Zeleny, 41, of Gillette will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ginny Bettendorf of the First United Methodist Church of Gillette officiating.

Fred Eugene Snell-08/10/03

Funeral services for Fred Eugene "Gene" Snell, 77, of Sundance, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the old high school gym in Sundance with the Rev. Ed Bollack officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Sundance.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel in Sundance.

Mr. Snell died of a heart attack Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at his home in Sundance.

He was born Nov. 24, 1925, in Pedro, S.D., the oldest child of George and Johanna (Bastian) Snell. He attended country schools through eighth grade. He worked for ranchers in the Phillip and Pedro areas and for Haakon County at Phillip.

He came to the Black Hills in 1946 and worked for the Hart Sawmill near Hulett. He then drove trucks from 1947 until the early 1960s, in later years owning his own trucks. He operated a garage east of Sundance, then for a brief time moved the shop into Sundance. Later, he expanded his business into a wrecker service and salvage yard, which he owned and operated until 1995 when he retired.

He married Jessie Mitts on Jan. 22, 1948. They were divorced in 1962. On Jan. 10, 1970, he married Helen "Honey" Roark Lake.

Mr. Snell loved traveling, checking out old vehicles and equipment along the way, but his first love in life was visiting with people. On his travels he would strike up a conversation with strangers only quite often to find out they would know the same person, even though he might be miles from home. He enjoyed spending time with his friend, Shirley Frasier of Spearfish, S.D.

He is survived by a sister, Juanita Goodsell of Hot Springs, S.D.; three brothers, Sam Snell of Gillette, Paul Snell of Cedaridge, Colo., and Kenny Snell of Big Pine, Calif.; and five stepchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Honey, in 1996.

A memorial has been established to the Sundance Fire Department and Sundance Ambulance Service. Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel of Sundance is in charge of arrangements.

A.J. Jack Campbell - 08/11/03

A memorial service for A.J. Jack Campbell, the father of a Wright woman, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the park across from the American Legion in Douglas.

He died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at the Fayetteville Veteran's hospital in Arkansas from a gallstone infection and a heart attack.

Jacob Anton Heil - 08/12/03

Jacob Anton Heil, formerly of Gillette, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at his family's home in Sheridan of natural causes.

Mr. Heil, 62, of Sheridan, was born on Sept. 19, 1940, in Eagle Butte, S.D., to Nicholas and Johanna (Zacher) Heil.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Moose, Eagle and Elks clubs in Sheridan. He lived in Gillette for a short time.

Mr. Heil is survived by his son, Steve Heil, of Sheridan, his daughter, Sharon Strong of Phoenix; his sister, Dee Bordeaux of Sheridan; his brother, Bob Heil of Billings Mont.; a niece, a nephew and three grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place in Sheridan and a private memorial service has been scheduled. Kane Funeral Home of Sheridan is handling arrangements.

The family has requested that memorials be made in Mr. Heil's name to Hospice of the Big Horns in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Cindy A. Nicholson - 08/12/03

Cindy A. Nicholson, 53, of Gillette, died today at her home near Moorcroft.

Services are pending with Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home.

Rose Marie Sech - 08/12/03

A graveside service for Rosa Marie Sech, 83, of Northridge, Calif., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Moorcroft.

Ms. Sech died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, in California.

Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kassandra Lynn Nelson - 08/12/03

Services for Kassandra Lynn "Kaycee" Nelson, formerly of Gillette, were Saturday in West Valley City, Utah.

Ms. Nelson, 14, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, from injuries received in a car accident two days earlier.

She was born Dec. 6, 1989, in Heidelburg, Germany to Robert F. and Debbie L. Nelson, a Campbell County High School graduate. Ms. Nelson was a student at Matheson Junior High at the time of her death. She began her education in Gillette, attending kindergarten at Pronghorn Elementary.

She was a faithful and active member of the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church. She was an excellent student, and was involved in the school drama program. She also loved sports, playing in the West Valley City Bonnet Ball League and on the school volleyball team.

She is survived by her parents; three sisters, Ashley, Cierra and Makenzy; a brother, Colton; her grandparents, Bill and Rosemarie Lancaster of Gillette; her aunt and uncle, Cindy and Travis Long of Gillette; and several other aunts, uncles and cousins.

John Doughty - 09/30/03

John Samuel Doughty, 92, of Gillette, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette.

Graveside services will be at Cory Cemetery in Cedaredge, Colo., at a later date.

He was born in Storden, Minn., on Oct. 12, 1910, to Shirley and Ethel (Quin) Doughty. He attended schools in Minnesota, South Dakota, and California, before moving back to White, S.D., where he graduated from high school.

He came to Gillette to work on the railroad before making his way to Colorado where he worked at various jobs.

On June 14, 1933, he married Josephine Estes in Eckert, Colo. They moved to California where he worked as a cement finisher.

He and his family then moved to White so that he could help his father on the family farm. In 1960, he moved to Rapid City, S.D., where he worked for Pete Lein and Sons until his retirement.

They then moved to Grand Junction, Colo., to enjoy their retirement.

In 1992 they moved to Gillette to be close to their daughter. His wife died in 1995. He continued to live in Gillette independently until becoming a resident of Pioneer Manor in August of 2003.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 53 years. He had a great passion for fly fishing and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout his life, he enjoyed bowling, traveling, hunting, golfing, and raising pigeons.

Mr. Doughty is survived by his three children, Shirlie Dike of Manchester, Wash., John E. Doughty of Portland, Ore., and Charlene Peper of Gillette; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Ike Doughty; and one sister, Bernice Johnson.
