Richard D. Maurer
1927 - 2006
Richard Dean Maurer, 79, of Cheyenne passed away Oct. 25 at Cheyenne Healthcare Center.
Dean was born June 21, 1927, in Genoa, Neb. He was the second to the oldest of five children born to Robert F. and Edith E. (Stromberg) Maurer. He attended Genoa High School, graduating with the class of 1946 while serving with the Merchant Marines in the Persian Gulf.
Returning to Nebraska after the service, he began working for the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, Neb. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 1985 with 30 years of service. In April 2004 he was presented a citation for 50 years of membership in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
On Sept. 25, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mary Jo Lanford.
Richard is survived by his four children; Kirk V. Maurer, Rick E. Maurer, Paulette Maurer, and Troy V. Maurer and his wife, Kristin; seven grandchildren, Nicole Maurer - Fisher, Jennifer Schaefer, Evan Maurer, Ryan Maurer, Alyssa Maurer, Misty Dawn Maurer and Sarah Beth Maurer; and two great - grandchildren, Jayden Schaeffer and Alexis Maurer. He leaves two brothers, Marvin D. Maurer, of Lincoln Neb., and Philip J. Maurer, Omaha, Neb.; and one sister, Roberta Maurer Sohrweid, of Denver, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert D. Maurer; sister - in - law, Dorothy Maurer; and brothers in - law, Hal Sohrweid and Tom Lanford.
Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wiederspahn - Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with Rev. Paul Everett officiating.
Military honors provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.
Interment of his urn will take place at the Valley View Cemetery in Geona, Neb.

Mildred Willadsen
1909 - 2006
Mildred Willadsen, 97, of West Plains, Mo., died Oct. 23 in Polk County, Mo.
She was born March 3, 1909, in Boliver, Mo.
Mrs. Willadsen was a retired teacher.
She was married to Anders Mason Willadsen from 1935 to 1974. Together they operated a ranch in the twin mountain area west of Cheyenne.
She was a member of Laramie County Republican Women's Club.
Mrs. Willadsen is survived by a nephew, Larry Nelson of West Plains, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anders Mason Willadsen; her parents, Ora and Grace Cornelius; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Schrader Chapel with Guy Landers officiating.
Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
Arrangements by Schrader Funeral Home.

Adele C. Metzger
1933 - 2006
After a lengthy illness, Adele Claire Metzger went to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 21.
Adele was born Sept. 22, 1933, in Elizabeth, N.J.
She was known to her family and friends as Del
Del was the beloved wife of William Metzger for 54 years, having been married May 3, 1955, in Hillsdale, N.J.
She was a special - needs school bus aide for Laramie County School District No. 2 and was a member of Riverside Christian Fellowship.
Del loved having pool parties at her house and would invite everyone. Her smile, laughter, generosity, kindness and selflessness will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. To family and friends, she is a Hero.
The family of Del would like to thank all of the many people at Life Care Center of Cheyenne and the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for their outstanding care.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; a son, Eric Metzger and his three children; two daughters, Cathy McDonald and her husband, Alan, and their three children, and Lisa Bear and her two children.
Memorial services for Del will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Burns High School gymnasium with the Rev. Bill Curan officiating.
Del requested that her family and friends join together to celebrate her time on this earth.
The family would like to invite you to join them immediately after the services at the gymnasium for a time to visit and for friendship.
There will be no graveside services.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Wyoming Bank and Trust. The proceeds will go to the LCSD2 special needs children's fund.

Robert Hayenga III
1971 - 2006
Robert "Bob" Hayenga III, 35, died Oct. 16 in Atlanta.
He was born May 13, 1971, in Cheyenne.
Bob graduated from Cheyenne's East High in 1989. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Gulf War. He became a professional truck driver for Arrow Trucking until ill health forced him to resign.
Bob is survived by his wife, Lisa of Atlanta; a daughter, Victoria Poelma of Green River; mother and stepfather, Julie and Chuck Hunter of Cheyenne; father and stepmother, Bob and Donna Hayenga of Rockton, Ill.; a sister and her husband, Laura and Doug Margheim; a half - sister, Lisa; his grandmother, Susan Hansen; an aunt, Jackie Hansen; stepgrandfather, L.J. Hunter; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; Swede Erickson and the Erickson extended family; and his many loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jack Hansen; and his stepgrandmother, Francie Hunter.
Cremation and private family services have taken place in Atlanta.
Bob loved the "open road" and the ability to visit much of America that his trucking job allowed. He was deeply saddened that his ill health prevented him from continuing his driving career.
He will long be loved and remembered for his ready smile and his fun - loving spirit.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Historic Plains Hotel from 3 - 5 p.m. Saturday . Bob's many friends and classmates and friends of the family are invited to share pictures and memories from 3 - 5 p.m.
Friends may contribute to the Bob Hayenga Memorial Fund for the benefit of his daughter, Victoria, Pinnacle Bank, 3518 Dell Range, Cheyenne.

Melvin E. Lenhardt
1936 - 2006
Melvin E. Lenhardt, 70, of Cheyenne went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 23.
He was born Aug. 13, 1936, in Loveland, Colo., and moved to Cheyenne as a child.
Mr. Lenhardt graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1954.
On June 17, 1956, he married Janice Miles. They had four children, Kevin, Kelly, Kirk and Kent. Mel purchased Plains A - Z Tire Co., Inc. in January of 1967.
He and his family owned and operated the company for 33 years until it was sold in 2000.
A respected businessman, Mel was well - known for his honesty and integrity.
His business won many awards including "Business of the Year" by the Better Business Bureau and "People's Choice Awards".
Mr. Lenhardt was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many Canadian fishing trips with family and friends.
He was a golfer, a sports fan, and he and Janice traveled extensively.
Mel loved spending time with those he loved. He was a beloved father, grandfather and husband.
Mel and Janice recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family.
Most important to Mel was his walk with Jesus.
He loved the Lord and served Him for more than 35 years.
Mel's life was a light and testament to all who knew him.
He was a member of Resurrection Fellowship in Loveland.
Mel is survived by his wife, Janice; a daughter and son - in - law, Kelly Irish and her husband, Dan; sons and daughters - in - law, Kevin and Nancy, Kirk and Tracy, and Kent and Amy, all of Cheyenne; two sisters and a brother - in - law, LaVon Parker of Texas, and Shirley and Joe Hubka of Cheyenne; a brother and sister - in - law, Howard and MaryJane Lenhardt of Cheyenne; a brother - in - law and sister - in - law, Jerry and JoAnn Miles of Cheyenne; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating.
Interment will be in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Mark Lenhardt, Jason Irish, Justin Irish, Jared Irish, Steven Lenhardt, Brian Lenhardt and David Lenhardt.
Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Rachel Irish, Kristen Lenhardt, Jenna Lenhardt and Melanie Lenhardt.
There will be a lunch reception from 1 - 3 p.m. at Little America.
Friends may contribute to the church of their choice or the National Parkinson Foundation.
