Richard A. Merrill Sr.
1933 - 2006
Richard Allen Merrill Sr., 73, of Cheyenne died Oct. 28.
He was born July 5, 1933.
The youngest of six children, he grew up a country boy, attended Cheyenne High School and graduated in 1951.
Richard married Dalene Homan in 1951 and had five children. Richard spent a short time in Wyoming Air National Guard. He later became a Cheyenne firefighter, retiring Sept. 1, 1978. He then worked at Cheyenne Waste Water Treatment Facility for 15 years.
"Dick" enjoyed a slow game of golf with various family members.
Richard married Susie Martin on July 8, 1982. She had four sons, Danny, David (wife Lourdes), Scott (wife, LaShell), Lee (wife, Michaelene).
Richard is survived by his wife, Susie of Cheyenne; his brothers, Robert and wife, Vivian and Delbert and wife, Isabel, all of Cheyenne; his sisters, Lois Buzard of Colorado, Elenor Ronish and her husband, Phillip of California and Ilene Vail and her husband, Dexter of Montana; his sons, Richard Merrill Jr. and wife, Susan, Earl Merrill and wife, Jenny and Kerry and wife, Gloria, all of Cheyenne; and a daughter, Jody and her husband, Gabe Lopez of Colorado.
He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 15 great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mable Merrill of Cheyenne; and baby daughter, Valorie.
Dick will be loved and missed by many.
Open house will from 3 - 5 p.m. on Friday at Triumph High School, 2201 Morrie Ave., Cheyenne, WY 82001.
Donations accepted for Triumph Catering Classes.

Ellen P. Brown
1910 - 2006
Ellen P. Brown, 96, of Torrington died Oct. 30 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb.
Ellen was born April 11, 1910, at Smith Center, Kan., the daughter of Clarence and Ruth (Allen) Pugsley.
In 1915, the family moved to Goshen County and settled on a homestead in the Moore Springs area west of Jay Em.
She attended school at Moore Springs. She married Kermit Brown on Feb. 14, 1931 in Lusk. The couple farmed and ranched in the Moore Springs Community until 1971 when Kermit died and Ellen moved to Torrington.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, where she was a member of United Methodist Women. She also was a member of the Senior Friendship Center Sunbonnet Gals for 13 years and volunteered at Diversified Services for 13 years.
Survivors include six daughters, Edith Rush Guernsey, June Hughes of Torrington, Mona Kay Williams of Torrington, Leda Ann Lester of Riverton, Dolly Heyl of Torrington, Jeanie Martinez of Cheyenne; one son, Clarence (C.C.) Brown of Laramie; one sister, Rose Sjoholm of Saint Louis, Mo.; 21 grandchildren, 32 great - grandchildren and 20 great - great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at The United Methodist Church in Torrington with the Rev. Ora Dailey officiating.
Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Torrington.
Visitation will be held at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Memorials have been established to Diversified Services or Eastern Wyoming College Foundation for Scholarships.

Lawrence D. Barone
1942 - 2006
Lawrence D. Barone passed away Oct. 26 surrounded by family at his home.
He was born on May 15, 1942, in Salida, Colo., and moved to Cheyenne in 1947 where he resided for the rest of his life.
Barone was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School.
He retired as senior master sergeant from the Wyoming Air National Guard in 2002 after 38 years of service. He served as commander of structural engineering and security police. In 1998, Barone received an "Excellence in Action" award from the 153rd Civil Engineering Squadron. Larry graduated at the top of the structural construction class at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport, Miss., in 1997.
Larry was previously a construction superintendent for Powers Builder's Supply and Buffington Glass Company. He was also owner and manager of Barone Properties.
His hobbies included collecting and restoring antique and classic cars. During his lifetime, Larry traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. He particularly enjoyed several family cruises. Larry's most recent trip was a pilgrimage to Medugorje in September of 2006.
He is survived by his mother, Lucy Barone of Cheyenne; sister Rose Marie and brother - in - law Larry Stolz; sister Gloria Ann Martini and nephew Brent Martini; nephew and niece Patrick and Karen Stolz; niece Leisann Stolz; aunts Louise Sara and Carmie Sara, all of Cheyenne; and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Heather Dawn Barone; father Patrick Barone; and grandparents Anne and Angelo Spino.
Vigil for the Deceased will be at 7 p.m. tonight at Schrader Chapel.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral. Interment with military honors will follow at Olivet Cemetery. Pallbearers will be cousins Joseph Sara, Richard Sara, Ken Mink, Michael Sara, Donny Sara, Joseph Sara Jr. and Christopher Sara.
Friends may contribute to St. Mary's School or St. Mary's Cathedral.
Arrangements are under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home.

Raymond K. Dougherty
1957 - 2006
Raymond K. Dougherty, 49, of Cheyenne died Oct. 30 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 2, 1957, in Cheyenne.
He was a warehouse manager at Laramie County School District.
Mr. Dougherty was a member of the Wyoming Harley Owners and Riding Enthusiasts and Wyoming Public Education Association.
He is survived by a son, Ricky James Dougherty of Cheyenne; two brothers, Rob Dougherty and Rick Dougherty, both of Cheyenne; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, John and Myrtle Dougherty.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Schrader Chapel with the Rev. Delbert Hansen officiating.
Cremation has taken place at Schrader’s Sunset Park Crematory.
Burial in Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements by Schrader Funeral Home.

Robert W. Westlake Jr.
1954 - 2006
Robert W. (Bob) Westlake, 52, of Mesa, Ariz., left this life after a long hard battle with Multiple Sclerosis to be with the Lord on Nov. 9 in Mesa, Ariz.
He was born June 23, 1954 in Aurora, Colo. The son of Robert (Bob) Sr., and Betty Westlake of Mesa, Ariz.
Bob had two children, Zachary Westlake of Breckenridge Co and Kasey Westlake of Cheyenne.
He graduated from East High School in 1972. Bob spent most of his life growing up in Cheyenne. He later moved to Fort Collins, Colo., until 2003 then he moved to Mesa.
He had worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in train service as a brakeman and conductor and went on to become an engineer for the rest of his career. He also was the instructor of Operation Lifesaver. One of his great delights was his railroad career, which he loved very much. Another of his greatest pleasures in life was to be outdoors camping and fishing.
Bob is survived by and loved by his children, Zachary and Kasey; parents, Robert Sr. and Betty; sister, Carol Farwell; nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins; close friends, Charles (Chuck) Johnson and Tom Brewer.
Cremation has taken place. Services are pending.

Mary N. Woods
1924 - 2006
Mary N. "Nadine" Woods, 82, of Cheyenne died Nov. 11 at Life Care Center of Cheyenne.
She was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Liberal, Mo., and had lived in Cheyenne since 1975 with prior residence in Laramie.
Mrs. Woods was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Robert E. "Gene" Woods of Cheyenne and Randall S. "Randy" Woods of Westcliffe, Colo.; a daughter, Linda Kay Hayden of Cheyenne; a sister, Georgia Lee McCoy of Cheyenne; 10 grandchildren and 14 great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Woods on Dec. 24, 1998; her parents, George W. and Elba Stoddard; a brother, Gerald Stoddard; and two sisters, Ann Bagby and Ruby Brown.
Services are pending through Wiederspahn - Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.
Pallbearers will be Dave Woods, Derrick Woods, Jordan Williams, Jason Woods, Preston Hayden and Hayden Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Williams, Jeff Jones, John Bates and Ty Alexander.
