Chad Steven Garls
Funeral services for Chad Steven Garls, 18, were held June 12, 2000 in the Douglas High School auditorium.
Rev. Rodney Saunders of First Methodist Church, Rev. Merrill Lanker retired from Congregational United Church of Christ, Father Andrew Duncan of St. James Catholic Church and Rev. Bill Moore of First United Methodist Church in Casper officiated, with Tony Ramsey and Dunbar Ivy, M.D. as readers.
Chad died June 6 in Mazatlan, Mexico, from an accident while he was vacationing following his graduation from high school.
He was born Dec. 25, 1981, in Pekin, Ill., to Steven Dale and Beverly Joyce (Murphy) Garls. They lived in Pekin until 1988 when they moved to Douglas, where Chad was educated in Douglas schools.
He graduated from Douglas High School May 21.
He competed in BMX racing at the local, state and national levels, enjoyed snowboarding, hunting, camping, canoeing and loved music and art. He received awards for drawings from the Wyoming State Fair and Wyoming Art Symposium competitions and had a poem published He received numerous scholarships and was planning to attend Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D. His goal was a career in business and communications.
Chad is survived by his parents, Steve and Bev Garls of Douglas; maternal grandmother Doshia Cleo Murphy and paternal grandfather Rolan W. Garls, both of Pekin, Ill.; aunts Barbara Joan Dunniway of Pekin, Sue Scott of Marquette Heights, Ill., and Diane Wilson of Pekin; and uncles Edward Murphy Jr. of Green Valley, Ill., Gerald W. Murphy of Fort Wayne, Ind., Daniel Garls of Cincinnati and Kenneth Garls of Pekin.
Pallbearers were Richard Schumacker, Jesse Gefroh, Chris Crispell, Ryan Olsen, Jake Jacobs and Ryan Salmon.
Memorials to the Chad Garls Memorial Fund, in care of Converse County Bank, Box 689, Douglas, would be appreciated by the family.
Converse Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Ann Castor
Graveside services and interment for Shirley Ann Castor, 73, will be held at 10 a.m. April 13, 2000 at Douglas Park Cemetery with Pastor Dan Hickman of Assembly of God Church officiating. Mrs. Castor died April 10 at Weston County Manor in Newcastle, where she was a resident.
She was born Sept. 1, 1926, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Frank and Ruth R. (Roembach) Fero.
She is survived by her son Charles H. Castor of Rock Springs; daughter Cheri Mitchell of Spearfish, S.D.; sister Patty Campbell of Sheridan; brother Rex Fero of Layton, Utah; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herb Castor, and son Craig.
Memorials to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
Converse Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Lowell Buster 'Buzz' Witt
Funeral services for Lowell Buster “Buzz” Witt, 80, will be held at 3 p.m. April 12 at Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas, with Rev. Martin Strom of the Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Full military graveside rites and inurnment will be held at 2 p.m. April 13 at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville.
Mr. Witt died April 8, 2000 at his apartment in Douglas.
He was born February 14, 1920, in Oshkosh, Neb., the son of Emit and Addie Rose (Buckley) Primrose. He grew up in Douglas. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on Feb. 9, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 8, 1946, as a corporal. His tour included duty in the Pacific area at Guadalcanal, Gilbert Islands and the Marianas Islands.
He knew many people because of the bartending business in which he was engaged. He was a member of the Elks and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid fisherman and loved to go to auctions, where his friends knew him as #14.
Mr. Witt is survived by three children, David A. Witt and wife Linda of Casper, Robert L. Witt and wife Kathy of Rock Springs, and Linda C. Cardwell and husband Jim of Rosebud, Mo.; three brothers, Joe Witt and Marvin Witt of Casper and Ronald “Skip” Witt of Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard L. Witt; and a brother, Richard “Dick” Witt.
Memorials to the Douglas Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 192, Douglas, would be appreciated by the family.

Mabel Edna Ballard Dixon
Services for Mabel Edna Ballard Dixon, 93, will be held at a later date.
Interment will be in Douglas Park Cemetery. Mrs. Dixon died Feb. 4, 2000 from a massive stroke.
She was born March 15, 1907, in Decatur County, Kan., to pioneer ranching parents Daniel W. (D.W.) and Mary Elizabeth Markle Ballard. The family moved to Douglas when Mabel was a young girl. She was reared and educated in Douglas and graduated from Douglas High School.
She married William Sherman Dixon in June 1926. Mr. Dixon died in 1962.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Melvin, Emmett, Carroll and Daniel Otis; and twin great-granddaughters Alyssa and Jessica Ball.
She is survived by a daughter, Lois Dixon Moore and son-in-law Robert of Grand Ronde, Ore.; sons and daughters-in-law William M. and Sue Dixon Sr. of Wyoming, Gene and Sydney Dixon of South Carolina and Robert and Patricia Dixon of Wyoming; granddaughters Orrelle Moore Dennis, Bobbi Moore Swindle, Elena Moore Johnson, Lori Dixon Kalon, Beverly Dixon Black, Jody Dixon Ball, Kay Ann Dixon Crandy and Tracy Dixon Edmiston; grandsons Steven Dixon, Wayne Dixon, Michael Dixon, James Dixon, Dustin Dixon and William M. Dixon Jr.; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Anna Ballard; several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.
Bollman Funeral Home of Dallas, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.

Clara Esther Fulton
Funeral services for Clara Esther Fulton, 82, were Jan. 11 at Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas.
The Rev. Martin Strom of Congregational United Church of Christ officiated. Interment was at Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Fulton died Jan. 7, 2000 at her home in Douglas after a hard fought battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 9, 1917, near Edgemont, S.D., to Jesse M. and Lenore E. (Wickersham) Johnson. She was reared and educated in Edgemont and graduated from Edgemont High School in 1935.
She married Stuart T. Fulton on Sept. 28, 1935 in Edgemont at the Congregational Parsonage. They resided in Osage for a year, moving to Edgemont, then later to Shawnee, and in 1941 to Douglas.
They made their living in the building trade, raising their family and building Fulton Construction Company with Clara doing the bookkeeping. They sold the business and moved to California in 1960. They resided in several California towns including Solvang, Inglewood, Hawthorne, Torrance and retired to Yosemite Lakes Park.
Mrs. Fulton kept books for a furniture manufacturer as well as on various rental properties they owned. In 1992 they returned to Douglas, renewing old friendships and making new ones.
Mrs. Fulton was active in the community, supporting activities her children were involved in, such as scouting, 4-H, etc.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, Past Noble Grands, Garden Club, homemakers, Congregational Women's Circle, Ladies of the Lake – serving in various offices and on several community boards. Mrs. Fulton loved people and was easily loved by all who met her.
She is survived by her husband Stuart Fulton of Douglas; children Barbara and husband Arthur Taylor of Nipomo, Calif., Janet and husband Norman Negrete of Douglas, and Richard and wife Ruth Fulton of Douglas; siblings Agnes and husband Bill Davis of Willard, Utah, Joyce Reynolds of Gerber, Calif., Merele Johnson of Hot Springs, S.D., brother-in-law Bob Corbett of Ketchikan, Alaska; eight grandchildren, David Taylor, DeeAnn Brazil, Brent Negret, Joni Breaux, Debora Fulton, Michael Fulton, Steven Fulton and Susan Foley; and 17 great-grandchildren, Justin and Kristi Brazil, Greg Negrete, Joli and Natalie Breaux, Emily, Laura, Brian and Jeremy Fulton, Jessica and Nicholas Fulton, and Spencer, Erin, Christopher, Nathanial, Meriah and Tessa Fulton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Elnore Corbett; brother Howard Johnson; and an infant sister.
Serving as pallbearers were Earl Shatto, Stan Lundberg, Cody Harnden, Darrel Butts, Michael Fulton and Steven Fulton.
A memorial to the Converse County Hospice program in care of the Converse Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box X, would be appreciated by the family.

Raymond C. Jones
No local services were held for Raymond C. Jones, 79, of Moorcroft.
He died June 2, 2000 at his home following a battle with cancer.
Mr. Jones was born April 9, 1921, at Fort Towson, Okla., to Charlie W. and Inez Lillian (Floyd) Jones. He moved with his family to Texas in a covered wagon at a young age. When he was 15 years old, he joined a Conservation Corps camp at Estes Park, Colo.
He entered the Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged.
Mr. Jones married Janie Sue Alford on Nov. 18, 1955, at Hugo, Okla. They lived at various locations while he worked as a driller in the oil fields. The couple moved to Moorcroft in 1969. He retired in 1983.
Mr. Jones was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He enjoyed camping and fishing during his younger years. He loved to play bingo and garden and was always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors.
He is survived by his children, Shirley Duncan of Denver, Patsy Pollat of Aladdin and Danny Jones and Rebecca Blakeman of Moorcroft; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers Lee Jones and Tom Jones of Arkansas, Clifford Jones of Mount Pleasant, Texas, and Bill Jones of Winnsboro, Texas; and sisters Ophelia Hood of Talco, Texas, and Charlene “Sis” Wesson of Winnsboro.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janie, on June 22, 1995; son Clifford Claude Jones; granddaughter Heather Blakeman; great-grandson Justin Jones; and his parents.
A memorial has been established to benefit the VFW in Moorcroft, and donations may be sent in care of Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 734, Gillette 82717.

J. Emmett Carver
Funeral services for J. Emmett Carver, 97, were held Sept. 16 at Sun City, Ariz.
He died Sept. 13, 2000 at Salt Lake City.
Mr. Carver was born July 12, 1903, in Crocker, Mo. He was reared and educated in Missouri and graduated from Highland University in 1928. In 1930 he moved to Douglas and taught school until 1936. He owned the Standard Service Station and, later, the Kandy Koop.
He was a postal carrier and clerk for 24 years until his retirement in 1970, when he moved to Sun City. He moved to Salt Lake City in 1996 and lived there until the time of his death.
He married Lillian Russell on July 16, 1931. They were married 52 years at the time of her death in 1983.
Mr. Carver enjoyed playing golf, baseball and chess. He and his wife enjoyed the great outdoors, and he climbed Laramie Peak when he was 64 years old.
He loved doing yard work and prided himself all his life on his well-kept yards. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Sun City and a Mason in good standing at Ashlar Lodge #10 A.F. & A.M. in Douglas since Jan. 5, 1955.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; grandson Brett Carothers; parents Willis and Minerva; sisters Lena, Edna, Peg, Francis, Marie and Beatrice; and brothers Scott, Bill and Stewart.
He is survived by daughters Beverly Carver of Phoenix and Judy Martin of Salt Lake City; brother Diz Carver of Crocker, Mo.; grandchildren Brad Carothers of San Jose, Calif., Brenda Carson of Glendale, Ariz., Natalie Jeffery of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Jamie Pergeau of Phoenix; and great-grandchildren Brynt and Kyle Carson and J.T., Court and Alyvia Jeffery.
Honorary pallbearers were Brad Carothers, Anthony Carson, Diz Carver, Kim Carver, Cliff Hanson, John Jeffrey, Larry Martin, Jamie Pergeau and Bud Turner.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society in care of Converse County Bank would be appreciated by the family.
