Margaret Bowden - 10/27/03

Funeral services for longtime Campbell County resident Margaret Mabel Bowden, 90, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Christian Church in Gillette with the Rev. Mike Dennis officiating. The Rev. Wayne Phillips of Gateway Ministries of Sundance also will officiate.

At Mrs. Bowden's request, her final transportation will be provided by a horse-drawn carriage from Christian Church to Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Visitation and celebration of life will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel and also one hour before services Tuesday at Christian Church.

Mrs. Bowden died of natural causes on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Wilmore, Kan., on Oct. 30, 1912, the second of six children of Jacob and Della (Coffey) Dillinger. She moved with her family to a homestead 16 miles south of Rozet when she was 3 years old.

She attended various country schools through the eighth grade and then boarded in Gillette to attend high school. She graduated from Campbell County High School in 1930.

After high school she became a school teacher and taught in several area schools for five years. In fall 1930, she was afflicted with polio, but she recovered to the point where she could live a normal and full life.

On June 26, 1935, she married Hugh Bowden in Gillette and four children were born to the marriage. She home-schooled all of her four children through the eighth grade.

She enjoyed raising a garden and nearly always had flowers growing in her yard.

After her husband died in 1969, she continued to make her home at the ranch south of Rozet until 1993. She then moved to Pioneer Manor Nursing Home, where she was a resident until her death. During most of her life she worked on a book about her life on the Wyoming plains called "1916 Wyoming Here We Come." It was published in 2002.

Mrs. Bowden is survived by her four children, Ruth Green of Cheyenne, Jessie Worley of Gillette, Jim Bowden of Rozet and Jeannie Dormady of Morgan; one brother, Robert Dillinger of Rozet; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one sister, Inez Niswender; and three brothers, Earl, Jay and Bill Dillinger.

A memorial has been established in Mrs. Bowden's name to be designated by the family at a later date. Donations may be sent in care of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. Fifth St., Gillette, WY 82716.

Gilbert Thorson - 10/28/03

Graveside services for Gilbert Wallace Thorson, 65, of Aladdin will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D., with the Rev. Moe Greiner officiating.

Full military honors will be provided by the Sturgis Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fidler-Roberts and Isburg Funeral Chapel in Sundance.

Mr. Thorson died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at his home of a heart attack.

He was born Jan. 1, 1938, to Adolph and Mignon ( Smith) Thorson in Newcastle. He was raised and attended school at Osage. He attended high school in Upton.

At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

In 1958, he married Frances (Sammie) Werlinger of Sturgis. He spent 20 years in the Navy serving as a flight engineer and as a flight simulator instructor. While in the Navy, he was able to travel around the world.

After retiring from the Navy in 1972, he owned and operated a trucking business in Chicago. In 1976 he married Lynn Mineer and in 1979 they moved to Sarasota, Fla., and he continued his trucking business. In 1995 he retired and returned to Wyoming.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Mr. Thorson is survived by two sons, Gary Thorson of Sheridan and Patrick Thorson of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Renee Mayo of Winnemucca, Nev., and Brenda Songer of Orangeville, Calif.; his mother of Sundance; one sister, Kristine Darlington of Upton; his wife, Lynn Mineer of Sarasota; two stepsons, Jay Zactan of Orlando, Fla., and Bob Dalhgren of McHenry, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Jodi Turner of Sarasota; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials may be directed to the Shriners Crippled Children's Fund.

Olga Jakober - 10/30/03

Funeral services for Olga Jakober, 88, the mother of a Gillette woman, took place Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka, S.D., with the Rev. Dean Nelson officiating.

Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Eureka.

Mrs. Jakober died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at the Avera Health Care Center in Eureka.

She was born to Henry G. and Mary (Kessler) Neuharth on Aug. 26, 1915, near Eureka.

On July 18, 1938, she married Samuel Jakober in Redwood Falls, Minn.

She was a homemaker all of her life and was a member of the Lutheran Church and several charitable organizations.

Mrs. Jakober is survived by her husband of Eureka; one son of Aberdeen, S.D., two daughters, including Di Moser of Gillette; two sisters; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and three sisters.

Milton Schiermiester - 11/18/03

A celebration of life for Milton O. Schiermiester, 76, of Buffalo, a former Gillette resident, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Jervis of the First Baptist Church officiating.

Burial will follow in Mount Pisgah Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Schiermiester died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at the Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 1, 1927, in Linton, N.D., to Ida (Reimers) and John Schiermiester. He was raised and educated in Linton and was baptized and confirmed at the Peace Lutheran Church. He graduated from Linton High School in 1946.

Upon his graduation, he entered the U. S. Army where he was stationed in Fort Jackson, S.C. When he was honorably discharged in 1948, he returned to North Dakota and began working for a seismographing crew. The job took him to many places, including Gillette.

He met Norma Davis in Gillette and they were married on April 5, 1952, on her parent's ranch. He began to work for Soil Conservation Service. Before long he went to work selling cars for his father-in-law at Davis Chevrolet. In 1976, he retired from Davis Chevrolet and began ranching full time. He ranched as long as his health would allow.

In 1997, he and his wife retired in Buffalo. They spent summers in Buffalo and winters in Yuma, Ariz., near their daughter.

Mr. Schiermiester was an avid bowler and enjoyed archery. He loved to visit and make new friends. He cherished his grandkids and watched all of their events whether it was football, basketball or 4-H.

He is survived by his wife of Buffalo; one son, James Schiermiester of Kaycee; one daughter, Jeri Ann Freimuth of Yuma; two brothers; Herbert Schiermiester of Wykoff, N.J., and Victor Schiermiester of Linton; one sister, Lila Luke of Sacramento, Calif.; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arnold and Robert; and two sisters, Esther and Ruth.
