Verna Alice Burger was born July 6, 1902 in Buffalo to Leonard and Nellie Winingar Burger. Her family moved from the ranch below Kaycee to Buffalo in 1906. She received her education in Buffalo, graduating from Johnson County High School in 1921.

After graduation she attended summer sessions at the University of Wyoming and taught in rural schools until 1924 when she went to Chicago, Ill. to further her music education at the Chicago Musical College.

Other schools she attended were Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. and Eastern Montana State in Billings, Mont. After returning to Buffalo, she taught in rural schools and had a private piano class in Buffalo.

Verna’s summers were spent working at Yellowstone Park and at a dude ranch.

She married Frank R. Davis in 1930, and they made their home at the Davis Ranch for ten years. During this time three children were born; James, Dorothy, and Allison.

After leaving the ranch the Davis family made their home in Ten Sleep for over 40 years. While there, Verna was active in club work and was an assistant in the music department at the school for many years. She also taught piano and was church organist.

She and her husband spent five winters in Arizona before he died in 1970.

Verna remained active in civic affairs for several years, serving two terms on the city council and continuing with her piano classes.

After she retired Verna spent several winters in Texas to be near her daughter Dorothy Redland and her family.

In 1987 she moved to Buffalo where she spent the rest of her life.
