William E. “Bill” Pirrie

WORLAND — William E. “Bill” Pirrie, 76, died Feb. 12, 2004 at Washakie Medical Center in Worland.

Bill was born on Dec 6, 1927 to Lester and Bernice (Cunningham) Pirrie. He married Betty I. Johnson in Cody on Aug. 19, 1950.

Bill moved to Cody as an infant. His father was a farmer who worked at Cody and Fullerton, Nebraska, so he grew up in both communities. Following high school he entered the U.S. Navy and served aboard a ship for two years. He then returned to Cody and started a lifelong career as a truck driver. In Cody, he worked for many years for Graham-Hill Co. hauling crude oil from the oilfields to the refinery in Cody.

In 1968 he took a job as a truck driver on the North Slope in Alaska. He moved his family to Anchorage and they lived there until 1974. He then moved to Thermopolis and in 1979 moved to Worland. While living in Worland he hauled uranium tailings at Riverton and worked for Ralph Wortham Construction driving dump trucks.

Bill loved to travel with his fifth-wheel camper, puttering in his shop, keeping his yard in immaculate condition, fishing, and building model cars and trucks. He also enjoyed reading western novels and listening to country and western music.

Bill is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters Linda (Mike) Thrapp of Eugene, Ore., Debra (Jeff) Simmons of Lafayette, Ind., and Pamela (David) Goetsch of Hunnington Beach, Calif.; sister Joann Semmel of Albany, Ore.; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

The family will have a private visitation on Saturday afternoon followed by a reception at their home in Worland. No services are planned at this time due to time constraints. Cremation will follow the visitation.

Armilla Joyce Parke

WORLAND — Armilla Joyce Parke, 70, died February 12, 2003 at Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Armilla was born May 7, 1933 in Rochelle, Ill. to E.M. “Cotton” and Ellen (Tuttle) Greene.

She married Irvin L. Parke on Nov. 21, 1980 in Green River, Wyo.

Armilla was raised at Dixon, Ill., where she graduated from high school. She then attended a community college in Dixon where she studied business administration.

She then worked for Centrel Phone Co. for 18 years.

She moved to Rock Springs in 1980 and had worked there for WalMart. In 1982 the couple moved to Pinedale, where she had worked for Walt’s Plumbing before helping her husband in his business, Parke Service. Due to declining health she quit working in the early 1990’s. In June 2003 the couple moved to Worland.

Armilla liked to travel, camp, and fish. She was a collector of Southwestern art objects.

She is survived by her husband, Irv; sons Mark Plock and Chuck Plock of Illinois, and Michael Plock of Iowa City, Iowa; daughters Kathy Plock of Ill., step-children Joe Allen Parke of Oceanside, Calif., and Toni Lynne Parke of LeMesa, Calif.; sister Carol Greene Urban of Morton, Ill.; and eight grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time, and a memorial service will be held next summer in Pinedale.

Esther R. Hoffman

RIVERTON — Esther R. Hoffman, 79, died at her home in Riverton February 10, 2004.

Esther R. Dillman was born in Lingle on Aug. 1, 1924 to Henry and Anna (Blume) Dillman. The family later moved to Scottsbluff, Neb.

She married Clarence W. Hoffman Aug. 31, 1946 at the family home in Gering, Neb. The couple had been married 39 years at the time of Mr. Hoffman’s death.

The family moved from Scottsbluff to Riverton in January of 1957. Although they had lived in other Wyoming towns, Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman chose to work and retire in Riverton.

Mrs. Hoffman was a member of Royal Neighbors, a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and was active at the Riverton Senior Citizens’ Center. Her hobbies included flower gardening, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, and she was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence; mother and father; four brothers; three sisters; and an infant daughter.

She is survived by her son Gary (Jodi) Hoffman; sister Frieda (Herman) Busch; brother Pete Dillman; granddaughter Deon Hunt; grandson David (Melony) Hoffman; and four great-grandchildren, Ranae, Thomas, Jonathan, and Joshua.

A memorial service will be held in June with a time and date to be announce later. Cremation has taken place.

Memorials may be made to the Riverton Senior Citizens’ Center.

Arrangements are made by the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton.

Wendell Tippets

WORLAND — Wendell L. Tippets, 84, passed from this life on March 30, 2004.

He was born on Sept. 12, 1919 in Cowley, the fourth of seven sons to Joseph and Clara Tippets. At the age of eight, he was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

As a young boy, he enjoyed spending his summers in the Pryor Mountains with his family. As he grew into a young man, he became an excellent student and athlete. His love for football carried with him throughout his life.

Upon graduation from high school, he left for California where he met his beautiful bride-to-be, Clara Dow. They were united in matrimony on June 22, 1941. Shortly after their marriage, at the outbreak of WW II, Wendell became a first lieutenant in the Army and served his country for the next four years.

Following his release from the service, he and Clara resided in California for a short time until it was decided that they would move to Wyoming. They settled in Worland where they raised their family.

Wendell loved the outdoors and was especially fond of the beautiful Wyoming mountains. He was an avid sportsman who took every opportunity to enjoy the mountain streams and lakes, and he loved to hunt in the fall of every year. He instilled a love for nature and country in his children.

He will be remembered and missed by those who loved him. He is survived by his wife, Clara, of Lovell; his children, Les (Erin, Carolynne) Dow of Seattle, Wash., Wendy (Bill) Decker of Worland, and Lynn (Delvin) Fritz of Cody; grandchildren, Dan, Mark, Christine, Mike, Tara, Matt, Luke, Josh, Ginnie, Cody, and Jamie; great-grandchildren, Drew, Garrett, Blake, Tatum, Grant, Taylor, and Alyssa; his twin sister, Wanda DeMeyer of Gridley, Calif.; and his older brother, Joseph Tippets of Bountiful, Utah.

Cremation has taken place. The cremains will be scattered on the mountains that he loved so much. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

John G. Dunbar

THERMOPOLIS — John G. Dunbar, 62, passed away July 27, 2004 following a sudden illness at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, Mont.

Mr. Dunbar was born Nov. 21, 1941 in Cambria, Mich., to Johnathan and Eva (Wilson) Dunbar. Following high school, he attended Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1964.

On July 23, 1961 he married Betty Jane Houghtby in Cambria. He was a barber from 1966-1977. The couple then moved to Newcastle where John was an oil field worker. In 1986 he began repairing pumps in the oil field until 1990. The Dunbars moved to Thermopolis where John was employed as a maintenance man/custodian with the U.S. Postal Service until the time of his death.

Mr. Dunbar was a past master of the Hillsdale Masonic Lodge #32 F&AM; past patron of Vesper Chapter #19, Order of Eastern Star; past grand patron, Grand Chapter of Wyoming, OES in 2003; associate bethel guardian, Bethel #15, and he was also a member of the American Legion #360, Reading, Mich.

He enjoyed woodworking, bird watching, gardening, camping, people, Eastern Star and muzzle loading.

Mr. Dunbar was preceded in death by his parents and his in-law parents, B.J. and Donna Houghtby.

He is survived by his wife, B.J.; dog, Ted; brother, Philip Houghtby Sr. of Reading, Mich.; two sisters, Etta Herzog of Michigan and Judith Bonsall of Cambria, Mich.; eight nephews, one niece and ten great-nephews and nieces.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Aug. 7, 2 p.m. at Mortimore Funeral Home with Father Joe Galligan officiating. Services will also be conducted by the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star.

Memorials may be made to Camp Hope for Diabetic Children, C/O B.J. Dunbar, 283 Red Lane, Thermopolis, WY 82443.

E.A. “PeeWee” Huffman

GREYBULL — Longtime Greybull resident, E.A. “PeeWee” Huffman, 83, died July 30, 2004 at the Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home.

PeeWee was born May 27, 1921 at Texas Creek, Colo. He was the oldest son of Harley and Bertha (Dewese) Huffman. He joined the CCCs at age 14 and was stationed in Basin.

He met and married Bette Oliver in Greybull on Nov. 3, 1939. To this union was born Gari Jean Kershner and Roger Lee Huffman.

PeeWee was a seasonal fireman on the DRGW railroad and later worked for the CB&Q. He then went to work at MI Drilling and retired from there after 20 years of service.

He was a lifetime member of the BPOE #1431 of Greybull.

He is survived by his wife, Bette Huffman of Greybull; two children, Gari Kershner, who is a resident at the Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home, and Roger Hufman of Medford, Ore.; 6 grandchildren; one brother and four sisters.

No services are planed. Cremation has taken place.

Mollie Weinmaster

CENTRALIA, Mo. — Mollie Weinmaster, 93, formerly of Worland, died July 29, 2004 at Heritage Hall Nursing Center in Centralia, Mo.

She was born Aug. 29, 1910 in Dietel, Russia, to John and Elizabeth Michael Bott.

She married James W. McPike on Feb. 21, 1931 in Worland. They were the parents of one daughter, Phyllis (Ed) Ashmead. James preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 1955. She later married Samuel Weinmaster in January, 1957 in Monticello, Mo. He preceded her in death in October of 1970.

Mrs. Weinmaster was a cook for 25 years in the Morrill school system in Morrill, Neb.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church in Worland and a member of Monticello Chapter No. 383, Order of the Eastern. She was active in various clubs that helped others. She loved being with her family, cooking, sewing and crafts. Dolls were her favorite.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; an infant daughter, Betty Lou McPike; five sisters and one brother.

She is survived by her daughter; five grandchildren, Melody (Richard) Dawson, Molly (Kenneth) Dawson, both of Centralia, Mo., Kathy (Dean) Umstaddt of Higbee, Mo., James Ashmead of Centralia, Kristy (Troy) Thurman of Boonville, Mo.; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Aug. 2 in Centralia.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mid-Missouri Chapter.

Theador R. “Ted” Peterson, Sr.

GREYBULL — Theador R. “Ted” Peterson, Sr. died September 7, 2004 of natural causes at his home in Yuciapa, California. He had resided there for the past 23 years.

Ted was born Nov. 10, 1931 in Shell to Arthur and Mary Peterson. He grew up and received his education in Greybull and graduated from Greybull High School. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy, during the Korean Conflict, and served in Japan for two years.

In Aug., 1957 he married Gaye Tolman. In the mid-1960s, following the birth of their children, the Petersons moved to California. Prior to working for Kaiser Steel as an operating engineer for 23 years, he worked as a painter, milkman and dance instructor. He worked for U.S. Steel, Standard Oil and for a company that mined bentonite.

Theador and Gaye were very focused on their family and extended family. Ted loved ballroom dancing, fishing, hunting and tinkering on just about any mechanical device.

His wife, Gaye, died in Feb., 1999, and he married Lillian Faye in 2001. The couple enjoyed dancing and traveling by bus to places such as Canada, Yosemite, Texas, Branson and San Francisco.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and one brother, Arthur Peterson.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian Faye Peterson of Yukaipa, Calif.; sons, Theador “Ted” Peterson, Jr. of Yucaipa, Vern Peterson of Peoria, Ariz., and Timothy Peterson of Kingman, Ariz.; daughter, Sharon Larson of Yucaipa; two brothers, Chuck Peterson of Greybull and Leo Peterson of Casper and 8 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Greybull.

Jose Adonias Ramirez

WORLAND — Jose Adonias Ramirez, 85, of Worland, died at the Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center December 2, 2004.

Jose was born July 1, 1919 in Monero, N.M., to Jose A. and Senida (Garcia) Ramirez. At an early age, Jose’s family moved to Powell where he received his education and worked on farms in the area.

Jose served in the Army during World War II and was proud that he was able to serve his country. After his discharge he returned to Powell where he continued to work as a farm hand. He was married to Ann Gonzales in Powell on Sept. 17, 1947.

In 1963 the family moved to Worland where he worked on various farms until his retirement. Shortly after, he went to work for the city of Worland in the parks department. He retired for the final time in 2002.

Jose’s hobbies included hunting, gardening and his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Alfred and Jose Jr.; one brother and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Ann, of Worland; son, John (Teresa Ramirez) of Rockford, Ill.; daughters, Esther (Jesus) Guzman of Worland, Rachel (Joaquin) Garcia of La Vernia, Texas, Barbara Monrroy and Diana (Florencio) Deniz, both of Worland; brothers, Frank, Philip, Joe A. and Eugene Ramirez; sisters, Susie Rangel and Carmen Soto; grandchildren, Jose E. Ramirez, Jesus A. Guzman Jr., Pompeyo Monrroy Jr., Jose E. Guzman, Gloria J. (Antonio) Galarza, Christina E. Guzman, Amanda L. (Manuel) Gomez, Antonio N. Monrroy, Armando Deniz, Melissa Garcia, Adriana Deniz, Alejandro Deniz and Hanna Ramirez; three great-grandchildren and one step-grandson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Dec. 6, 11 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church with Father Sam Hayes officiating. A Rosary will be recited Dec. 5, 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow the Mass at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland with the American Legion and VFW in charge of military honors.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Fund in care of Bryant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 524 Worland, WY 82401.
