Verneda Mae “Phoebe” Hicks
1917-2002
Verneda Mae “Phoebe” , 85, Laramie, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at her home in Laramie.
She was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Springfield, Mo., a daughter of Robert H. Fallin and Augusta (Akery) Fallin.
She married Elmer Hicks on June 6, 1939, in Fort Collins, Colo.
Mrs. Hicks was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Geraldine Reeves.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer Hicks, of Laramie; two brothers, Lonnie Fallin and his wife, Elizabeth, of Littleton, Colo.; and Harvey Fallin and his wife, Louise, of Cheyenne; one sister, Bonnie Rassmussen, of Denver, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Heggie Family Mortuary, 311 S. 21st St. Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at Green Hill Cemetery. Officiating at the graveside service will be the Laramie Hospice Chaplain, Dick Naumann.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Laramie Hospice, 1262 N. 22nd St., Laramie, WY 82072, or memorials may be left with Heggie Family Mortuary.

Terry J. Conway
Terry J. Conway, 47, Laramie, died Oct. 16, 2002, at her home. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. at the new Unitarian Church at 14th and Gibbon Street, Sunday.
A memorial fund in her name has been established at the UNIWYO Federal Credit Union, 564 N. 15th, Laramie, WY 82072 to the benefit the Laramie Animal Shelter Foundation, the Southern Poverty Law Center in Alabama and the Women’s History Museum in Washington, D.C.

Halberta Kinsolving Krafczik
1927-2002
Halberta Kinsolving Krafczik died Dec. 18, 2002, at Hospice of Arizona in Peoria, Ariz.
She was born in Crittenden County, Ky. On August 5, 1927, a daughter of Hal and Lula Kinsolving.
She moved to Laramie in 1936 and graduated from Laramie High School in 1946.
She married Don W. Krafczik on March 9, 1959.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Kinsolving and his wife Bonnie; her friend and companion Gail Fluty; and two nieces and three nephews.
Cremation has already taken place with arrangements to be held later in Arizona.

Margo K. Browall
1971-2002
Margo K. Browall, a University of Wyoming student died Dec. 18 in Fort Collins, Colo. from complications following surgery.
She was born Dec. 3, 1971, at Yuma, Ariz., a daughter of Kurt and Cindy Browall of Riverton. A 1989 graduate of Riverton High School, she graduated with honors from Chadron State College in 1998 and then taught school as a fourth grade teacher in Lander during the 1999-2000 school year before enrolling at UW.
She was a published poet. She was a member of PEO and active in several organizations on campus at UW. At her request, she has been cremated and her family will conduct an “outdoor” celebration of her life in the Wind River mountains in the spring at a time and location to be announced to friends and family.
She is survived by her parents; a sister, Julie Browall and nephew Dawson Roscoe of Cheyenne; aunts and uncles; and her grandmother, Mary Browall of Lander; and five cousins.
She was preceded in death by grandparents Clarence and Kathleen Stumpff; a grandfather, Carl Browall; an uncle, Carl Browall Jr., and five cousins.
Memorials may be sent to the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank, P.O. Box 6026, Aurora, CO 80045, “For Margo Browell Memorial.”

Carl J. Occhipinti
1931-2002
Carl J. Occhipinti, 71, of Cheyenne, died Sunday, Dec. 22 at his home.
He was born Feb. 11, 1931 in New Orleans, La., and moved to Cheyenne in 1932. He graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1948.
He worked for Cheyenne Newspaper, Inc. from 1948 to 1950. He joined the Wyoming Air National Guard and was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict. In 1956 he graduated from the University of Wyoming. He worked for the Laramie Newspaper as an advertising manager until 1963. At that time he moved to Sterling, Colo. to open KTVS-TV Broadcasting Station for Frontier Broadcasting. In 1975, he moved to Cheyenne to assume the role of general manager of KYCU/KGWN, KTVS, KSTF (Scottsbluff, Neb.), and stations throughout Wyoming. He held this position until his retirement in 1996.
He was a former member of the CBS Affiliates Board of Directors, Board of Directors of Equality State Bank, Rotary Club, Elks Club, American Legion, Wyoming Association of Broadcasters, Rocky Mountain Broadcasters Association, Rocky Mountain Advertising Golf Association, Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, Cheyenne Country Club, University of Wyoming Alumni Association, Cowboy Joe Club, Goodwill Industries Board, Meals on Wheels Foundation Board (president), American Heritage Center Board, YMCA Board and the Air Force Association. He was also listed in the Who’s Who in the West publication.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Ila; a daughter Vickie Occhipinti Smith of Lawrence, Kan.; a son, Michael Occhipinti of Centennial, Colo.; a daughter Diane Occhipinti of Mesa, Ariz.; a granddaughter; two sisters, Frances Spencer and Virgina Mullins, Cheyenne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 2015 S. Greeley Highway, 82007, UMC Hospice, 2600 E. 18th 82001, or St. Mary’s Cathedral.
Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Vigil for the Deceased will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Schrader Chapel in Cheyenne.

Marian Helen Wyatt
Marian Helen Wyatt, formerly of Laramie, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002 in Mesa, Ariz.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Janet Thomason Burman
1930-2002
Janet Thomason Burman , 72, Cheyenne, died Dec. 21, 2002.
She was born August 1, 1930, in Burlington, Iowa.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, PEO and Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni.
Ms. Burman is survived by two sons, David Burman of Seattle, and Tom Burman of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Caroline Lindly of Cheyenne and Sarah Woods of Westcliffe, Colo.; a brother, John Thomason of California; and 11 grandchildren, Kendall Burman, Blaire Burman, Daniel Lindly, Elizabeth Lindly, Laureen Woods, Madeline Woods, David Woods, Drew Burman and Nathan Burman.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Thomason; mother, Hazel Thomason; and step-mother, Sally Thomason.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church in Cheyenne with the Rev. Jon Laughlin officiating.

Shirley Louise White
1932-2003
Shirley Louise White, 71, Worland, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003 at Washakie Medical Center in Worland.
She was born Feb. 18, 1932 in Cheyenne, a daughter of Howard Sellers and Florence Ethel (Jensen) McDonald.
The family lived in Monterey, Calif. where she graduated from high school. She attended Stanford University, majoring in marine biology. She returned to Wyoming in the mid 1960s.
She married Todd E. White. They lived in Oklahoma and returned to Laramie when he was on active duty in Vietnam.
In 1969, the moved to Worland where she worked as a bookkeeper for Gambles, Worland Credit Bureau, Wordlan Ford and Westerm Motors. She retired in 1993.
She was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion auxiliaries in Worland and the BPODoes.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Betty Lou Chadwick.
She is survived by her husband, Todd of Worland; a son, Howard and his wife Sandy Phillips of Worland; a daughter, Sheryl and her husband Mike Rydquist of Loveland, Colo.; five brothers, Jim and his wife Nancy McDonald of Phoenix, Roy McDonald of San Leandro, Calif., Howard and his wife Nancy McDonald of Thousand Palms, Calif., Danny McDonald of San Jose, Calif. and Ejay and his wife Lisa McDonald of Laramie; one sister, Helen Bixman of Santa Clara, Calif.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Grace Chapel Community Church in Worland with pastor Dale Steele officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland.

Charles “Butch” Driskell
1938-2003
Charles “Butch” Driskell, 64, Fort Washakie, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
He was born July 6, 1938 in Fort Washakie, a son of Cornelius Grant “Neely” and Lenore Faye (Harris) Driskell. He graduated from Lander Valley High School in 1957 and earned an engineering degree from Western States College of Engineering.
Following graduation he worked for Ball Brothers Engineering in Boulder, Colo. They were involved in the space program and the development of the Star Track System for the NASA space shuttle.
He retired in 1988 and moved to Laramie. After 10 years in Laramie, he moved to Thermopolis.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Dee and Mabel Driskell and Fred Harris and Martha Stagner.
He is survived by his mother, Lenore Henan of Lander; his stepfather Ben Henan of Cheyenne; children, Connie and Doug Beck of Brighton, Colo., Chad and Kristy Driskell of Clayton, N.C. and Craig Driskell of Johnston, Colo.; two sisters, Carmen Henan and her husband Alvin Sandoval of Santa Fe, N.M. and Cyd and Bob Peterson of Laramie; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Shoshone Episcopal Mission with Rev. Tom Means officiating. Interment will be in Chief Washakie Cemetery.

Marion Frances James, 82, Laramie, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, in San Jose, Calif.
Arrangements are pending with Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home.
